My Childhood Memories

Growing up, I had a very loving family. I had three siblings with whom I used to play a lot. I remember very fondly the games we use to play. Especially, in the evenings, we used to go out in the park with our sports equipment. Each day we played different games, for example, football on one day and cricket on the other. These memories of playing in the park are very dear to me.

Furthermore, I remember clearly the aroma of my grandmother’s pickles. I used to help her whenever she made pickles. We used to watch her do the magic of combining the oils and spices to make delicious pickles. Even today, I can sometimes smell her pickles whenever I look back at this memory.

Most importantly, I remember this instance very clearly when we went out for a picnic with my family. We paid a visit to the zoo and had an incredible day. My mother packed delectable dishes which we ate in the zoo. My father clicked so many pictures that day. When I look at these pictures, the memory is so clear, it seems like it happened just yesterday. Thus, my childhood memories are very dear to me and make me smile when I feel low.

My Childhood Memories Essay - 100, 200, 500 Words

Childhood memories always bring smiles to our faces because of the innocence that lies within them. People feel happy when they think about and discuss these memories.

One of my strongest childhood memories is playing in the park with my best friend. We would spend hours there, running and playing on the swings and slides. The sun would beat down on us as we giggled and chased each other, and our laughter echoed in my mind even now. We would also play games of tag and hide and seek and always have fun. I remember feeling so carefree and happy in those moments, with no worry. These memories of playing in the park with my best friend bring back feelings of pure joy and innocence, and I will always treasure them as some of my fondest childhood memories.

Memory is an interesting and important part of our lives. When I look back on my childhood, I recall many stories. Some make me happy, and others help me learn and grow.

Summer At My grandparents

One of my fondest childhood memories is spending summers at my grandparents' house in the countryside. The lush green fields and tall trees surrounded the house, and I loved going on adventures with my cousins through the fields and woods. We would spend hours playing hide and seek, building forts, and catching fireflies at night.

My grandfather was always around, tending to the garden or working on some new project. He taught me how to fish in the nearby stream, and we would spend hours together on the bank, chatting and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

The days at my grandparents' house seemed to stretch forever, filled with laughter and joy. The house was always filled with the scent of fresh baked goods, and my grandmother would spend hours in the kitchen whipping up delicious meals. I will always treasure these memories of spending time with my grandparents and cousins in the peaceful countryside. They are a reminder of the simple joys in life and make me grateful for the people and experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today.

Childhood memories are an essential part of our life. The happiest, most incredibly unforgettable childhood memories are the ones that are hard to forget. The best part of childhood is spending it with other children. Childhood memories are the sweetest of all memories; they are a collection of happy moments that stay with us forever.

There are many memories that I have forgotten, but there are some that I can easily recall. Those are golden memories, and time has become precious. Childhood is the most exciting and beautiful time in our life. We were at a stage in our life free from worries and problems.

Why do childhood memories matter?

Childhood memories play an important role in our lives. They shape our destinies and our outlook on life. What a person learns as a child usually stays with them. From childhood, he is taught the importance of discipline, punctuality, ethics and values, and then these values will accompany him throughout his life. Childhood memories are strongly influenced by family and its values, experiences, and interests. They often reflect a child's early ability to remember things.

They range from the mundane to the elegant, the funny to the touching, but most of them are vague and elusive, often irrelevant, and sometimes downright unnatural.Childhood memories shape one's identity and provide comfort and familiarity. They also serve as a source of nostalgia, reminding us of happy times and special moments that bring joy and a feeling of connection to the past. They also help us understand our family history, cultural background, and experiences that have shaped us into who we are today.

My Childhood Memory

One of my most memorable childhood memories is playing with my friends in my neighborhood. I grew up in a small village surrounded by lush green trees and rolling hills. My friends and I would spend hours exploring the woods, building forts, and playing games. We were always outside, regardless of the weather, and we never seemed to run out of things to do.

One of our favorite games captured the flag. We would divide into two teams, each with their own flag that they would hide. The game's objective was to capture the other team's flag and bring it back to your base without getting tagged. The games would last for hours and were always filled with laughter, screams, and running.

Another memory I have is of baking cookies with my grandmother. She lived next door to us, and every time we visited, she always had some baked treat waiting for us. My sister and I would help her mix the ingredients, roll out the dough, and cut out the cookies. Then, we would watch as they baked to perfection in the oven. The smell of freshly baked cookies would fill the entire house, and it was a smell I would always associate with my grandmother.

These memories are special to me because they represent my childhood's carefree and joyful times. They remind me of the importance of spending time with loved ones and enjoying the simple things in life. I am grateful for these memories and how they bring a smile to my face every time I think about them.

How can we forget that time when we created an endless amount of memories which will last a lifetime?

Gone are those days when we fought with our parents to buy us toys or play. With time, the definition of childhood has also changed. Children in the 21st century will now have a unique childhood experience, shaped by the technological advancements and social changes of our time. Now, children have access to information on their electronic devices (iPads/Phones). How can we forget, that children now prefer to use smartphones for entertaining themselves rather than playing outside?

Despite these changes, the meaning of childhood can change no matter if the way of living has changed. Growing children still crave the love, support and guidance which will help them to be responsible adults.

To conclude, everybody’s childhood is a priceless period. Parents and other adults who care for children contribute to their joyful and fulfilled childhood by showing them love, support, and guidance.

“For the last few years I lived here, I was the same height as I am now, so why am I astonished at the low hang of countertops, or that I can catch my reflection in the mirror that hangs high on the wall? Sometimes peering at that tired, but devilishly handsome, man in the mirror evokes the same, bittersweet feeling of vertigo you get from visiting your old primary school, as you stand 3ft higher than you’re supposed to, like some befuddled Lemuel Gulliver.”

In his essay , O’Reilly reflects on his time visiting his father in his childhood house. He recalls his memories inside the house alongside his son’s experiences today and how they are similar. He also explains how pleasant it is to be in the house again, as it evokes warm, cozy memories of his upbringing. While much has changed about the house, every visit remains as nostalgic as ever.

You might also find these essays about camping trips helpful.

“I always smile when I remember fishing with my Father. Many years have now since passed since those Saturday morning fishing trips. Time has taught me that the bond between Father and Son is what made those memories special to me. Now when I close my eyes I can remember those days since passed with joy and with a remembrance of the love I have for my Father.”

In this short essay , Dziegielewski describes memories of fishing with his father. He recalls every detail, from the fresh smell of the lake to the sound of a fishing bobber. Most importantly, however, he remembers how his father taught him the skill of fishing. This made him love his father, even more, allowing him to look back on these memories fondly.  You can also check out these essays about development .

“Water also drives many of our decisions — from the seafood we eat to our most romantic moments, and from where we live, to the sports we enjoy, and the ways we vacation and relax. We know instinctively that being by water makes us healthier, happier, reduces stress, and brings us peace.”

Bajaj recalls a memorable experience in which she dove into a deep pool after her mother had told her not to. She remembers the feelings of curiosity and excitement she felt and how despite her nearly drowning, she remembers that time happily. Reflecting on the memory, she also explains how water has helped her become more satisfied, peaceful, and happy. Our childhood memories shape us and provide us with the basis for the rest of our lives.

4.   I Would Have Liked Childhood More Without the Pressure to Grow Up by Jane Coaston

“I felt like I was given no time for trial and error. My choices were either to make the very selective local club soccer team or never play the sport again, be a genius or give up. Because being bad at anything was the worst possible sin I could imagine committing.”

Coaston writes about a more negative aspect of her childhood: the constant pressure to “not be a kid anymore.” She recalls several things expected of her, including having exceptional grades while being athletically gifted at the same time, with “no time for trial and error.” She feels everything was expected of her, and she did not have time to discover herself by making mistakes. She wishes parents would not rush their children along and let kids be kids for a while.  Check out these essays about growing up .

“I remember calling home once when I was spending the night at a friend’s house. I was homesick and just wanted to come back home. It was near midnight, but my mom drove over and picked me up. It was in these little moments that I especially felt loved. These were moments when I really needed my mom, and she was there for me. As a mother of a one-year-old now, I treasure these moments too.”

In her essay , Castleberry recalls her childhood memories involving her mother, including ones in which her mother entertained her and her friends and picked her up from a late night at a friend’s house. She remembers the small things her mother would do for her and how she was always there when she needed her. In raising her daughter, Castleberry strives to be the same mother that her mother was for her.

My Childhood Memories Essay | Essay on My Childhood Memories for Students and Children in English

February 7, 2024 by sastry

My Childhood Memories Essay: Childhood memories are the sweetest things in a human mind. Nobody can forget one’s childhood memories whether pleasant or painful. When I think back about my childhood, many vivid memories spring to my mind. Some are pleasant while some are painful.

Regardless of the quality I attach to these memories, they constitute the early experiences of my life and they help to make me the person that I am today. “Sweet childish days, there were as long as twenty days are now” aptly said William Wordsworth.

Long Essay on My Childhood Memories 500 Words in English

Below we have given a long essay on My Childhood Memories of 500 words is helpful for classes 7, 8, 9 and 10 and Competitive Exam Aspirants. This long essay on the topic is suitable for students of class 7 to class 10, and also for competitive exam aspirants.

The most vivid memory that I have is about the time I fell from a coconut tree. Though I fell from about three feet, I dislocated my elbow. I can still recall the process of falling and the immense pain and discomfort afterward. I was about five at that time. That accident makes me extra careful whenever I climb a tree now.

A repetition of a bad experience is definitely not welcomed.

As I grew older, I remember sitting sidesaddle on the horizontal bar of my elder brother’s bicycle while he pedalled us towards a small farm nearby. There we would feed ourselves on the way back. I had to watch out for the police because my brother told me that if were to be caught riding sidesaddle, the police would arrest me and put me in jail. Now I know that he was just frightening me to be on the alert. He was too lazy to watch out for the police himself. Even this small fear had some kind of enjoyment.

My elder brother taught me many things. I learned to make flyable kites and spinning tops. In addition, we would go around fishing. Catching fish had its ups and downs. Ups when we managed to catch a small amount of fish, and downs when we ourselves became the victims of water leeches. Ugh! Just thinking of them now makes me feel creepy. We learned to respect the living creatures in the countryside.

No single living being rules nature. We are the hunters and the hunted at the same time. The most important thing is to recognise our position. Or to put it better in George Eliot’s words: “We could never have loved the Earth so well if we had no childhood in it.”

The pleasure of outdoor games in all kinds of weather, getting wet in the rain or soaking with sand, can never come back again. The golden days were tension free and carefree from all sorts of duties and responsibilities. Even the fights had their own charms.

Each game played, and each activity performed taught a unique lesson about life. Ironically as a child, I always wanted to grow up fast, now that I am growing and had grown up, I want to be a child again and relive everything.

Later on, my elder brother went overseas for further studies. I miss him but fortunately, I had a group of friends living in the neighbourhood. We would play all sorts of games and go exploring all sorts of places. We were lucky to live at the fringe of town where the natural surroundings were not destroyed yet.

Now the streams and farm are gone, the victims of the polluted drain were once a stream of cool clear water, brimming with life. No longer can we hear the call of the birds and animals. Instead, we hear the impatient blast of car horns and the roar of bulldozers churning up the once beautiful land.

I mourn the destruction of the living bountiful land and the subsequent erection of nameless houses all arranged in neat sterile rows. I wonder what sort of childhood memories the children living in these houses will have. Especially in this technological world, the glory and enjoyment of outdoor games seem completely lost for these children.

As years rolled by, my friends and I grew up. Most of them have left the neighbourhood for more lucrative jobs in the big cities. Some of us remained over here. We have lost our childhood. We are like strangers to one another now, for we have our separate lives to live. The only thing that binds us together is the fact that we share the same childhood memories, memories that we will always treasure.

Narrative Essay on Childhood Memories

Narrative essay generator.

Childhood memories are the treasures of our past, vividly painting the innocence, adventures, and joy of our early years. These memories, both sweet and bittersweet, form the mosaic of our identity, influencing who we become. This essay delves into the essence of childhood memories, exploring their impact and significance through a personal journey back in time.

The Magic of Childhood

Childhood: a period of life where every day feels like a new adventure, filled with curiosity and wonder. My childhood was no different. It was a time when the smallest things felt like grand discoveries, from finding a caterpillar in the backyard to the first time I rode a bike without training wheels. These moments, though seemingly small, are monumental in the eyes of a child. They represent growth, learning, and the boundless joy of living.

A Journey Back in Time

One of my most cherished memories takes me back to my grandmother’s house, a quaint cottage nestled in the heart of the countryside. It was a place out of a storybook, surrounded by lush gardens and towering trees that whispered secrets with the wind. My summers there were filled with endless days of exploration, from the crack of dawn until the stars claimed the sky.

The Garden Adventures

The garden was a magical realm where imagination had no bounds. My cousins and I would embark on epic adventures, pretending to be explorers in a mystical land. We built forts out of branches and leaves, declaring them castles of ancient times. The garden was our kingdom, and in it, we were invincible. The laughter and shouts of our play still echo in my mind, a reminder of the carefree joy of youth.

Lessons Learned

Amidst the fun and games, childhood also presented its set of challenges and lessons. I recall a particular rainy day when our garden escapades led to a muddy disaster. Our clothes were stained, and the indoors became a canvas for our muddy footprints. The scolding that followed taught us the importance of responsibility and the consequences of our actions. Yet, even in that moment of admonition, there was love and the gentle guidance towards making better choices.

The Power of Friendship

Childhood is also a time when friendships are formed, bonds that often last a lifetime. I met my best friend under the most unusual circumstances, a mishap during a school play where a missed cue turned into a comedy of errors. Instead of embarrassment, we found laughter and a friendship that stood the test of time. It was through these friendships that I learned the value of trust, support, and the sheer joy of having someone to share life’s moments with.

As the years passed, the innocence of childhood gradually gave way to the responsibilities of adulthood. The endless days of play were replaced by schedules and commitments. Yet, the memories of those carefree days remain, a beacon of light guiding me through life’s challenges. They remind me to find joy in the simple things, to approach life with curiosity, and to cherish the bonds formed in the innocence of childhood.

Childhood memories are more than just moments of the past; they are the foundation upon which we build our future. They teach us lessons, shape our values, and influence our paths. As I reflect on my journey through childhood, I am grateful for the experiences that shaped me, the challenges that strengthened me, and the joy that filled my days. These memories are a precious gift, a reminder of a time of innocence and wonder that continues to inspire and guide me as I navigate the complexities of adulthood.

Compose a narrative essay about a student's first day at a new school

Develop a narrative essay on a memorable school field trip.

Memories of my Childhood

This essay about the elusive nature of childhood memories discusses the author’s personal experience with not being able to recall early life events clearly. It explores the feelings of disconnection and envy towards others who can vividly remember their pasts, while also investigating the psychological phenomenon of childhood amnesia that makes early memories inaccessible for many. The text reflects on how this lack of memories impacts the author’s sense of identity, leading to a deeper appreciation for the present moment and the importance of living mindfully. Additionally, it touches upon the significance of shared stories from family and friends in bridging the gap left by personal memory gaps, suggesting that identity can be shaped by more than just individual recollection. Through this exploration, the essay offers insights into the complexity of memory and identity formation.

How it works

Childhood memories often stand as a foundation upon which we build the narrative of our lives. These early experiences, theoretically, should shape our preferences, fears, and personalities. However, what does it mean for one’s sense of self if these memories are not just blurred but seemingly non-existent? This contemplation leads me into the depths of my own recollections, or the lack thereof, as I grapple with the realization that my childhood memories are not as accessible or vivid as they seem to be for others.

The phenomenon isn’t as rare as one might assume. Conversations with peers often lead to a shared sense of bewilderment when topics of early memories arise. It’s not a matter of traumatic experiences blocking these memories but rather a gentle haze that obscures them. This fog doesn’t discriminate by the emotional weight of the memory. Both mundane and momentous events lie beyond my cognitive reach, leaving me to wonder about the texture of my early life experiences.

The absence of these memories prompts a peculiar form of envy when I observe others recounting their childhood with clarity and affection. There’s a certain richness to their narrative of self that seems to be missing from my own. Yet, this absence also forces a different kind of introspection. It propels me to question the role of memory in shaping identity. If memories are the building blocks of our personal narratives, what happens when those blocks are missing? Are we less ourselves, or does it simply compel us to anchor our identity in the present more firmly?

The search for answers leads to an exploration of the mechanisms of memory. Memory is not a video recorder accurately capturing every moment of our lives. It is selective, reconstructive, and often fallible. Childhood amnesia, the term psychologists use to describe the general absence of memories from our early years, affects most people to varying degrees. Understanding this phenomenon sheds light on the commonality of my experience, offering comfort in the realization that the fog is a universal aspect of human memory.

This understanding prompts a shift in perspective. Instead of mourning the absence of these memories, I begin to view it as an invitation to a different kind of mindfulness. The present becomes not just a moment passing into the fog of memory but a space of acute awareness and appreciation. The relationships and experiences of now gain a heightened significance, serving as the vivid colors in the tapestry of my narrative.

Moreover, this contemplation of memory and identity brings to light the importance of shared stories. In the absence of personal memories, the stories told by family and friends become precious threads connecting me to my past. These narratives, while not remembered firsthand, form a mosaic of my early years, offering glimpses into the child I once was. They serve as reminders that while my personal recollection may be foggy, my existence in those moments was real and impactful.

In the end, the exploration of my absent childhood memories reveals a rich landscape of understanding and acceptance. It highlights the complexities of memory, the fluidity of identity, and the profound beauty of the present moment. While the early chapters of my life may remain hidden in the fog, the journey of discovery they have prompted illuminates the path forward with a newfound appreciation for the stories we live and those we tell.

Childhood Memories Essay (Short & Long)

Childhood memories are some of the most precious and nostalgicically remembered moments in a person’s life. For me, my childhood memories are filled with happy and carefree times, spent playing with friends and exploring the world around me.

One of my favorite childhood memories is of the summer vacations I used to spend at my grandparents’ house in the countryside. The house was surrounded by acres of lush green fields and had a small pond in the back. My siblings and I used to spend hours splashing around in the cool water and catching fish with our bare hands.

I also have fond memories of the countless hours I spent playing with my friends in the neighborhood. We used to play all sorts of games, ranging from hide and seek to soccer and basketball. I remember the thrill of winning a game and the disappointment of losing, and how we always tried to come up with new and creative ways to play.

But it’s not just the outdoor adventures that I remember from my childhood. I also have many fond memories of indoor activities, such as baking cookies with my mom and reading bedtime stories with my dad. These simple, everyday moments have stayed with me and continue to bring a smile to my face.

Childhood Memories : Baby and Toddlerhood

As a toddler, I was full of energy and curiosity. I loved exploring my surroundings and discovering new things. I remember the excitement of learning how to walk and the joy of chasing after my older siblings.

One of my favorite childhood memories is of my grandfather, who would always take the time to play with me and make me laugh. He would chase me around the house, pretending to be a monster, and I would squeal with delight. These moments of play and connection with loved ones are so important for children and create a strong foundation for their development.

Another special memory from my early years is of my first trip to the beach. The feeling of the cool sand between my toes and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore is something I will never forget. These early experiences with nature help children develop a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them.

As parents, it’s important to take the time to savor these precious moments with our children. These early years are filled with so much joy and wonder, and they go by far too quickly. So let’s take a moment to slow down and soak up the magic of childhood while we can.

Childhood Memories : Friends and Fun

School is a time of great growth and exploration for children. It’s a time when they make their first close friends, learn to navigate social interactions, and discover their own interests and passions. These years are filled with so much fun and excitement, and for many of us, they are some of our fondest childhood memories.

One of my favorite memories from elementary school is of the friendships I made. I remember the thrill of being invited to my first sleepover and staying up late giggling with my friends. I also remember the fun of recess, where we would play tag or have impromptu dance parties on the playground. These friendships helped shape me into the person I am today and I am grateful for the memories we shared.

Another memorable part of elementary school for me was the sense of independence I gained. I remember walking to and from school on my own, feeling like a big kid. I also remember the excitement of choosing my own books to read at the library and the sense of accomplishment I felt when I finished a particularly challenging one.

Of course, elementary school was also a time of learning and discovery. I remember the thrill of learning to read and write, and the joy of participating in science experiments and art projects. These early experiences with learning helped lay the foundation for my future education and sparked a lifelong love of learning.

Looking back on my elementary school years, I am filled with fond memories of friendship, fun, and discovery. These years are such an important and formative time in a child’s life, and I am grateful for the memories I have from this special time.

Childhood Memories :  Reflection – Looking Back & Moving Forward

As we grow older, it’s natural to look back on our childhood memories and reflect on the experiences that have shaped us. For many of us, these memories are filled with joy and wonder, and they remind us of the simple pleasures and magic of youth.

But as we move forward in life, it’s also important to consider the lessons we learned and the ways in which our childhood experiences have shaped us. When I look back on my own childhood, I realize that many of the values and beliefs I hold dear were formed during these formative years.

One lesson I learned during my childhood was the importance of kindness and compassion. I remember my parents and teachers always stressing the importance of treating others with respect and empathy, and these lessons have stayed with me throughout my life. I believe that these values are crucial for building strong, healthy relationships and creating a positive impact in the world.

Another lesson I learned during my childhood was the value of hard work and determination. I remember my parents encouraging me to set goals and work towards them, and I learned the importance of perseverance and resilience. These lessons have helped me throughout my life and have helped me to overcome challenges and achieve my dreams.

As I look back on my childhood memories, I am grateful for the love and support of my family and the lessons I learned along the way. These memories serve as a reminder of the joy and magic of youth, and they provide a foundation for moving forward in life with purpose and direction.

Conclusion: Cherished Moments

Overall, my childhood memories are filled with joy and laughter, and I am grateful to have had such a happy and carefree upbringing. These memories continue to shape who I am today and bring me a sense of warmth and nostalgia whenever I think back on them.

Childhood memories are some of the most cherished and treasured moments in a person’s life. They provide a glimpse into our past and remind us of the joys and innocence of youth.

As we look back on our childhood memories, it’s natural to feel a sense of nostalgia and longing for those simpler times. But it’s important to remember that these memories are not just a reflection of the past, but also a source of inspiration and guidance for the present and future.

The lessons we learned during our childhood, the values that were instilled in us, and the relationships we formed all shape who we are today and help guide us on our journey through life.

So let’s take a moment to cherish our childhood memories and be grateful for the experiences that have shaped us. These memories are a treasure trove of happiness and joy, and they will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Introduction

Often it is heard from many renowned persons that they want to go back to their childhood days. Actually, we all want to do that. Childhood is that stage of life which we can enjoy- – the part of life which we cannot get back however much we want. Our future is built up on the basis of our childhood. Our future is shaped by our parent’s love and care. It is the actual time when we can teach our children what is right and what is wrong. Childhood is the time when the foundation of our life is built on the pillars of right values and principles.

Memories of the Childhood

Childhood is the most unforgettable time period of my life. Everyone has childhood memories, remembering those memories brings peace and the feeling of delight. They are one of the most valuable for an individual.

In our childhood, a child does not have any worries about the modern world and when an adult recalls his/her memories of that careless phase of one’s life, they get a chance to forget their current pressure and stress that they are facing in the present life, even for a moment. People become very attached to their childhood memories especially in the later stage of their life and want to go back in time to re-experience their childhood but sadly can’t.

Importance of Childhood

The childhood memories we gather stay with us throughout our life. Anytime they can bring happiness in our life when we are down. The actual value of childhood can only be understood by the grownups because children are not capable of realizing the importance that this period brings with it.

Children are free from all the worries, hazards of a busy life, and stresses in this world of uncertainty. We, the grownups, feel delighted when we recollect our childhood memories. But it is obvious that every memory of childhood days can’t be good. There may be some unwanted memories which can haunt a person his entire life. When we grow up we miss every single day of our childhood period. Our life is fully dependent on time. The time that has already passed cannot be brought back and so can’t our childhood. The innocence and careless days of childhood are what makes even poets and writers cherish those days and praise them.

Children may fail to realize what golden moments they are passing through only until they reach adulthood. For an adult the best days of his life were spent while he was a child and it is during his stressful days he longs for the lost time. This is when the significance is best realised. The moral and social character of a child is developed in this time. In this time, the parents can easily alter the mindset of the children and make them differentiate between right and wrong. The minds of children are like clean slates on which any story, pleasant or harsh, can be written easily.

Childhood is the time when a child’s diet must be apt to develop his health and immunity. The proper habit of eating, reading, sleeping, doing exercise, and to be neat and clean must be taught in this phase of time. It is also the best time for a child to engage in any creative activity like drawing, singing, etc. or sports for these will be with him when he grows up and works as a stress buster.

We adults also have a thing or two to learn from children. They care for every people without any discrimination. They are also very helpful in nature to the people surrounding them. We can learn the lesson of humanity from children. Children are to be treated as the future of the country and they are the biggest part of a developing nation. Thus, they must be nurtured accordingly.

A happy childhood makes for a successful adulthood. Children are like vehicles without any proper destination. You can drive them in any direction you want. Children are the representatives of God. They are the most innocent human beings in this world. It is us who can give them a beautiful future. If they have made some mistakes we should rectify them instead of misbehaving with them. Today’s child is tomorrow’s responsible citizen.

When my kids were little, I wrote short snippets capturing our daily lives. Now they're teens, and this window into our past is priceless.

  • My kids are 15 months apart and I was very sleep deprived when they were little.
  • I started writing snippets of our days together to remember all the memories.
  • It's not anything fancy, but the memories are priceless.

Insider Today

It took me almost a year to calculate that my kids, Sylvia and Nico, were 15 months apart. When Nico was a newborn, people regularly commented on my "full hands" and asked me how close the kids were in age. My response was well-rehearsed but vague: "She's just about a year older than him." I was too sleep-deprived to do the math.

Life with little kids is as overwhelming as it is glorious. Amazing, hilarious, ridiculous things happen constantly. It takes over the household and almost creates a new language — words assume unique pronunciations. Everything gets a nickname or a song.

Related stories

Because it's so rich, real, and encompassing, it's tempting to assume it's unforgettable. But the details disappear like the baby toys that get boxed up and socked away as the kids outgrow them.

I found my own way to capture memories

I am not a good photographer . I am not crafty. I had a hard time committing to baby books and scrapbooks, but I share the urgency that these devices address. I wanted to capture the details of this stage of our lives, but it had to be easy and accessible if I was going to stick to it while juggling the demands of full-time work and raising babies.

I bought a little notebook for each kid , and I started writing short snippets about them whenever I could steal a minute. Early in the morning, right before bed, during screen or naptime, I would jot down the date and a few details from their day: What was the weather like, and how did that impact our activities? What did they seem to think of our adventures? What new foods did they try? What did they learn? What did they say? Who did they meet?

I captured some big milestones : sitting up, rolling over, and first steps. Writing in a free format also gave me room to chronicle smaller developments, like the first time the kids saw a fireworks display, had an argument, went to a birthday party, took a solo trip down the slide, caught a ball, or got a time out.

It's not tidy at all, but that's not the point

I didn't write every day. I only wrote when I had time and material. Sometimes, my husband Greg wrote a snippet. If a grandparent, aunt, or uncle was over, I invited them to note what they observed about the kids or to detail what they did with Sylvia and Nico during their visit.

The snippets aren't tidy. My handwriting is terrible, and I was usually in a hurry. Plus, with a slew of guest contributors, the entries are far from uniform. Still, the narratives offer vivid accounts of our daily lives and the wonderful personalities that were taking shape during those hectic days.

I stopped writing in their notebooks when the kids started school. More of their experiences were happening outside our house, and school projects and events offered new ways to chronicle those.

Greg and I would pull the notebooks off the shelf and read them when we felt nostalgic, but my kids were not interested in their recent past. I think they found it embarrassing to hear how thunder once scared them, what they thought about popcorn the first time they tried it or the details of some random rainy afternoon we all spent doing puzzles in our pajamas.

The snippets remind us of what life used to be like

Sylvia and Nico are now in the early stages of young adulthood, and they've developed a capacity for nostalgia. They have their own memories, perspectives, and interests in their past.

We live in a different house now, and the one the kids grew up in has changed hands twice. But these little snippets offer us a glimpse of what it felt like to be there early in the morning, at dinner time, and in the middle of the night. Our little paper notebooks are an ever-open window into our past. They capture granular details of the babies, toddlers, and new parents who started a life together there.

We'll be back from 6am with all the latest from the election campaign.

We're in the last few days of the race for Number 10 - and parties from across the House of Commons are accelerating their efforts.

Join us in the morning for more live updates.

Reducing knife crime will be a "moral mission" for Labour if it wins the election on 4 July, Sir Keir Starmer will say on Tuesday.

The party leader will outline his plan to halve knife crime over the next 10 years, including creating a new cross-government "coalition" to work on solutions - bringing in families of victims and survivors of knife crime, along with tech companies and relevant organisations.

Sir Keir will also promise to chair an annual knife crime summit to "track progress" on the target, and appeal to all parties to work together on the issue.

"Knife crime is an issue above and beyond party politics," he will say. "For the parents grieving sons and daughters who never came home, action to end this scourge cannot wait.

"Far too often we hear the same stories from grieving families who have been subject to these brutal murders carried out by children.

"It is our duty as political leaders of all stripes to work together to end knife crime and keep our young people safe."

Figures from Labour showed knife-related offences had risen by 81% since 2015 across England and Wales.

The party's pledges for after the election include increasing the penalties for carrying a knife - including custody in the most serious cases, as well as extending the list of banned knives.

Its 10pm - here's your late night general election bulletin.

We're into the last full week of the election campaign, with just 10 days left until polling day - and things are heating up.

Here's a run down of everything you may have missed:

  • Rishi Sunak  today said he is not being investigated by the Gambling Commission over the betting scandal;
  • He confirmed the Conservative Party is carrying out its own investigation - and will pass its findings on to the Gambling Commission ;
  • The prime minister later took part in an election Q&A with The Sun, in which he insisted he only took the top job "as the result of a mistake" made by Liz Truss ;
  • He also failed to confirm whether he called a summer election to avoid potential legal trouble over Rwanda flights taking off in July;
  • Meanwhile, economists have lambasted a "conspiracy of silence" from the main parties over their tax and spending plans - read more below:
  • Over to Labour, which has offered to meet Harry Potter author JK Rowling to provide her with "assurances" over the protection of women-only spaces;
  • Sir Keir Starmer also took part in the election Q&A, and he admitted that he "understands" why people are confused by his shift in stance on Jeremy Corbyn;
  • And Lord Richard Dannatt, the former head of the army, has said Nigel Farage is "not worth listening to about anything" - particularly relating to the war in Ukraine;
  • The Reform leader said last week the West had contributed to the invasion of Ukraine;
  • He has launched a blistering attack aimed at his one-time ally Boris Johnson - highlighting a front page showing Mr Johnson holding a similar stance on Russia back in 2016.

A flurry of general elections since 2015 has brought an unprecedented churn in our parliamentary representatives.

This year, two in five MPs aren't seeking re-election and the picture for the Conservatives is record-breakingly grim.

An unparalleled total of 23% of Conservative MPs are calling it a day in 2024, more than the previous high of 22% of Tories who quit in 1997, another year of boundary changes.

In contrast, only 15% of Labour MPs are resigning.

There are many reasons MPs quit: from retirement, family commitments and health concerns to career change, abolished constituencies, and the prospect of defeat.

But their decision to depart can reveal much about life in Westminster and have a significant impact on parliament's mix of experience, demographics, and the direction of political parties.

Dr Sofia Collignon, associate professor in Comparative Politics, analyses the churn in our representatives here:

Wales is a Labour heartland, but it's clearly in the sights of other parties during this election campaign.

Reform UK even launched its manifesto in a town in the south of the country, Merthyr Tydfil.

Although Wales has its own parliament and makes most of its own decisions, they still elect MPs who stand in Westminster.

Sky's Wales reporter Tomos Evans explains how the cost of living, steel industry and nuclear energy will be key issues for voters.

By David Blevins , senior Ireland correspondent

Northern Ireland's first and deputy first ministers have condemned the Conservative Party for the impact of Brexit on the region.

Sinn Fein's Michelle O'Neill told Sky News the current government had "played fast and loose" with the Good Friday Agreement.

Emma Little-Pengelly, of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), said Northern Ireland was the victim of the Tories having "botched Brexit".

Doug Beattie, the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) leader, accused the "chaotic" Tory government of "destroying the cohesion of the United Kingdom".

Tactical voting is a talking point at every election - but it could play a particularly big role this time round.

The polls suggest huge public discontent with the Tories, but there are many seats where Labour - widely projected to form the next government - are not the main challengers.

It's contests like these where the Lib Dems, Reform UK, and the Greens might hope to make gains.

Below, Sky's political correspondent  Serena Barker-Singh explains what tactical voting is when it comes to an election and how it could impact parliament's makeup come 5 July.

Our live poll tracker collates the results of opinion surveys carried out by all the main polling organisations - and allows you to see how the political parties are performing in the run-up to the general election.

It shows a drop in support in recent days for Labour and the Tories - with a jump for Reform and the Liberal Democrats.

Tonight on Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge , both our Tory and Labour guests faced questions over a report suggesting neither party are being honest with voters about their tax and spending plans.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies launched its report on their election manifestos this morning, warning public services will have to be cut over the next parliament, unless government debt or taxes rise further.

Labour and the Tories have both ruled out tax rises on working people, but also downplayed the risk of cuts to key public services.

So, are they being honest? Our business correspondent Paul Kelso takes a closer look at the numbers...

That concludes our coverage of tonight's Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge  - the show will return tomorrow at 7pm. Stick with us here for more updates and analysis throughout the evening.

Five years ago it was indisputably the Brexit election, but this time round it's become something of an elephant in the room.

But in Northern Ireland, none of the party leaders are shy of talking about the impact of Britain leaving the EU.

Our  senior Ireland correspondent  David Blevins   has spoken to them all about the legacy of the 2016 referendum - and how a new government at Westminster might change things.

As David notes, to "get Brexit done" the Tory government put a trade border in the Irish Sea between Northern Ireland and Great Britain - something that was once unthinkable.

Michelle O'Neill, Sinn Fein:

"I think there's an opportunity now with what potentially looks like a Labour government coming into play to reverse the damage of Brexit.

"And actually, I would hope we get to the point where actually we reverse the Brexit decision altogether.

"That may not be where Labour are headed, but I think there is an opportunity to reset relationships, critically between London and Dublin, because those have been very much fractured."

Emma Little-Pengelly, DUP:

"The Conservative Party and the UK government botched Brexit and Northern Ireland was the victim of that.

"We called out the Conservative Party on this at every single stage.

"We had to fight incredibly hard to try to undo the damage made by the decisions made by the Conservative Party in government.

"But of course it was us fighting for that, while others were agitating and pushing for rigorous implementation of that really bad deal."

Naomi Long, Alliance:

"What we need to do looking forward is say... how do we make the benefits of the Windsor Framework work in our advantage?

"We have a unique position in Northern Ireland in terms of trade: we can trade freely into GB, we can trade freely with the Irish Republic, but more than that, we are a foot in the European Union."

Colum Eastwood, SDLP:

"Brexit has been a disaster for the whole of the UK, I would argue, economically and in many other ways, but we felt it much more keenly here because we share a border with the European Union.

"We had to do an awful lot of work to put things back together after the mess that was made by Brexit and Boris Johnson and the DUP.

"From our perspective, there's no better outcome than actually being back in the European Union lock, stock, and barrel."

Doug Beattie, UUP:

"Brexit was a defining moment.

"It absolutely undermined the cohesion of the United Kingdom, and I think we can see the out workings of that even today.

"And whatever government gets in - and we all think it's going to be a Labour government - I think they're going to have to work on that cohesion as one of their main outputs."
