How you can record a Webex meeting depend on several factors:

Are you a free or a paid Webex user?

Free Webex users have limited recording options. You can only record from the desktop app, and you cannot record to the cloud. Your recordings will only save locally on the hard drive on your computer, which you should consider if you want to share them. Paid users can record from desktop or mobile devices and have the option of saving their recordings to the cloud or their device.

Are you the host, cohost, or presenter?

Webex only supports recording for hosts, co-hosts, or presenters. Recording a meeting as an attendee can later help reference meetings, training, or educational material. However, if you wish to record a meeting as an attendee, you can’t go without an additional program.

What type of device are you using to record your meeting?

Using a desktop device, how you record will vary slightly from recording on mobile devices. The quality of your recording will be impacted by the specifications of your device and the method you choose to record with.

Paid users have the following limitations for recording a meeting and saving it to the cloud:

  • If you begin a session on a phone, you can’t record it to the cloud.
  • Cohosts cannot record a meeting if the host is present in the meeting.
  • Video played from your camera while sharing your camera over a shared presentation won’t be captured in your recording.

We’ll explain how to screen record on any device and provide step-by-step instructions to walk you through the process. After reading our tutorial, you’ll be ready to capture a Webex meeting or event from your desktop, phone, or other mobile devices.

How to Record a Webex Meeting Step-by-Step

How to Record a Webex Meeting Step-by-Step | Sembly

Recently updated on July 29th, 2024

A dynamic work environment requires effective communication and meticulous documentation to secure a company’s long-term success. Webex by Cisco, a platform for virtual meetings and training sessions, offers excellent opportunities for connection and collaboration.

If you are considering Webex as a primary or supplementary tool for virtual events, there are a few things you should know beforehand. Does Webex record meetings, and how can you do that? This article will help you understand the platform’s features and how to record a Webex meeting using different approaches.

Why Record Webex Meetings?

Recording Webex meetings enhances access to crucial materials within the organization. Anyone can follow the agenda and revise key information at any time.

Recording online calls on Webex also improves transparency and documentation in the company, enabling managers to set goals, evaluate employee engagement, and conduct objective performance reviews . It’s an investment in the clarity, efficiency, and continuity of the organization’s progress.

Webex Recording Capabilities and Account Types

Webex recording capabilities differ from other video conferencing platforms and depend on the account type and device used. The following sections provide an overview of subscription plans, presentation rules, and more.

Webex Subscription Plans

The platform offers several account types, such as:

Webex Recording Based on Device

Webex supports recording meetings on PCs and smartphones, though some features depend on your subscription plan. Free users can only record a Webex meeting using a desktop device and app, storing the meeting recording on their computer.

Free account types can’t record the session via smartphone using the built-in Webex feature. “How can I record a Webex meeting in that case?” you might ask. It’s possible to do so using embedded phone screen recorders or third-party tools like Sembly AI .

Webex Recording Requirements

Webex has a set of recording rules. Only certain types of meeting participants can use a Webex call recording feature. Here are four categories Webex divides participants into:

  • Hosts. By default, only hosts can record the meeting. However, organizers can assign co-hosts and presenters and grant permission to record.
  • Co-hosts. Co-hosts can only record the session if the original host is absent from the meeting. When the host returns to the call, it takes back the recording, totally controlling it.
  • Presenters. Presenters share their screens with presentations, whiteboards, or other content. They can’t record Webex meeting unless the host permits them to do so through meeting controls.
  • Attendees. Attendees can’t record Webex meeting using the built-in feature. Guests can ask hosts to enable them to record the call or use side applications.

Preparing to Record a Webex Meeting

Although you might not be able to record a Webex meeting using the platform’s built-in feature, there are alternative methods to achieve this. With the wide selection of side applications and built-in recording features, you can capture a meeting just as quickly. Whether on a smartphone or laptop, you must first prepare for the meeting recording. However, first:

Check Permissions

If you prefer to stick with the native Webex recording feature, you need to check recording permissions in Control Hub. As a host, you can extend the recording permission to co-hosts, participants, or both. You can also decide whether to give co-hosts more freedom over recording layout or limit them to the view-only option. In any case, follow these steps:

  • Go to Services > Meeting
  • Click Settings
  • Scroll down to Cloud recordings and choose who can record
  • Set the recording details by toggling on or off the Allow co-hosts view-only privileges option

Inform Participants

When using Webex’s native feature, you don’t necessarily have to inform party members that you’ve started recording. Participants receive an audible notification with a Red Light icon on the screen when the recording is in progress.

However, it’s recommended to notify people that you plan to record the meeting using third-party software or a mobile screen recording app.

Test Your Equipment

Testing your setup is crucial to complete the preparation stage and ensure everything functions smoothly. Run an internet connection speed test to see if the bandwidth allows you to use the camera. If your Wi-Fi can’t handle the video call, Webex will automatically lower your resolution or even turn off your video. You can also call a colleague to test your camera, microphone, and speakers.

How to Record a Webex Meeting

If you are a host, alternate host, presenter, or participant with permission to record the call, knowing how to record a meeting in Webex is several steps away.

Install the app and log into the profile

Download the Cisco Webex desktop app to access the recording feature. While others can tune into video meetings via Chrome browser, you must get the app to have a recording feature. Otherwise, it will be disabled.

how to record a powerpoint presentation on webex

Next, log into your account using your credentials to schedule or start the meeting.

log into your account using your credentials to schedule or start the meeting | Sembly

Start recording once the meeting is on

After going live, navigate to the bottom panel, click “Record” next to the Share button, and view a list of saving options. You can save the file locally or to the cloud if you’re subscribed to the paid Webex plan. Free users can only save to computer storage.

how to record a powerpoint presentation on webex

When all is set, click the “Record” button. The Webex native recording method allows for pausing recordings. You can pause and resume recordings by pressing dedicated options in the same popup window. Upon pressing “Stop,” the file will go to the provided documents folder.

Click the “Record” button | Sembly

Recording a Webex Meeting as the Host

Webex meeting organizers control all settings. As a host, you decide who can record the meeting and whether it starts immediately after the call has begun. You can do all that in Control Hub.

Recording a Webex Meeting as the Host | Sembly

Recording a Webex Meeting as a Participant

Participants can only press the dedicated button to start and stop the recording. To record Webex meeting as a participant, you need to get the host’s permission to record. A host must go to the participants panel, locate the “More” button, and click “Allow record,” thereby making you an alternate host or presenter. Alternatively, a PowerPoint recording feature can help you capture the call and share it with other call members.

Start the actual recording

Click “Record” on the same panel to start recording when allowed. There won’t be a drop-down menu with saving options. However, participants can pause and resume the recording.

After pressing the “Stop” button, the file will be saved to the storage selected by the host.

Use alternative applications

As mentioned, the native Webex recording feature prevents participants from unauthorized recording. In justified cases, a third-party recording tool can fully capture the meeting agenda and ensure everyone is on the same page over time. However, following regulations established by a space owner is essential to avoid privacy violations and professional misconduct.

How to Record a Webex Meeting on your Mobile Phone

Webex does not permit free users to record video meetings on a mobile device. If you have a free subscription plan, move to the next section to learn about how to record a Webex meeting by phone. Follow these simple steps if you’re a paid-plan user:

  • Install the Webex mobile application and log into your profile
  • Start or join the meeting
  • Tap three dots on the chat panel
  • Tap “Start recording”

In some Webex mobile app versions, this is followed by a meeting audio prompt stating that the call is being recorded.

Whether iPhone or iPad, paid users have a built-in feature to record meetings. It’s located on the panel next to the end call button. Press the ellipsis to see a characteristic symbol.

how to record a powerpoint presentation on webex

While free users can’t record meetings on the mobile app, there is still a way to capture a meeting by native screen recorders. If you’re an iPhone user, here are the steps to record an online call even if you’re a participant with the native recording tool:

  • Go to Control Center in the Settings. Allow for Screen Recording Feature by tapping +
  • Launch the Webex app and join the meeting
  • Swipe down from the upper-right corner
  • Tap the screen recording icon (a dot inside of a circle) and wait three seconds for the recording to begin
  • Stop the recording whenever you need to by tapping on the same icon

how to record a powerpoint presentation on webex

You can also capture Webex calls in-app on an Android device using a paid account. The Record button is located in the same place.

Depending on your Android version and mobile phone, the steps for screen recording may vary. Nevertheless, here’s how to give you a general idea of how to record a Webex meeting on Android:

Accessing Webex recordings is simple. The easiest way to reach all the files is through the desktop app. For added flexibility, you can view the files by signing into your Webex account, going to the User Hub, and then the “Recordings” section.

Editing Your Webex Recording

Whether you want to divide the recording into several files or trim out unnecessarily long intros and outros, you can do that using the Webex editor. Follow these steps:

  • Sign in to your account, go to Recordings, and locate the MP4 file you wish to edit
  • Click Play and select “Edit playback range” in the lower right of the screen

  • Sign in to User Hub
  • Go to Recordings
  • Select Share next to the recording name
  • Provide all the necessary information in the popup menu

You can also create a password for the recording link to prevent unauthorized access to the file.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Users might occasionally encounter issues when using Webex. According to the Webex Help Center, the most common problems are:

  • Hanging at starting Webex
  • Missing the green Join Meeting button
  • Hanging at “One Moment Please”

The Help Center provides detailed step-by-step guides on addressing those issues effectively and starting to record Webex meeting, so it pays to monitor the website closely.

Privacy and Compliance for Webex Meeting Recording

Ensuring privacy and compliance for Webex meeting recordings involves following data protection laws. Organizations must notify participants about the recording through verbal alerts and on-screen indicators, as CCPA and GDPR require. With Webex, recordings are securely stored, and access is restricted to authorized personnel.

Why Do I Not See an Available Recording Option on Webex?

You might be unable to record a Webex meeting for several reasons, like using Webex on a browser, on a phone with a free plan, or being a participant. Check out the troubleshooting page to see if others have encountered this. If you’re a meeting participant, request to record through the panel.

You may also want to replace the native recording feature with reputable third-party tools like Sembly AI and record an important meeting without worrying about the temporary problems with Webex recording.

Does Webex Provide Recording Transcripts?

The transcribing option is turned on by default for meetings. You can turn it off and on as you wish in the settings. If you’ve turned on recording transcripts through the administration panel, you can get them from User Hub in the Recordings subsection for your virtual events.

Can you record a Webex meeting automatically?

Since Covid, online video conferencing platforms are trending more than ever before. Webex is an online video conferencing and cloud calling tool.

Nowadays many professionals, businesses, organizations and even teaching institutes rely on the Webex program by Cisco to host and record meetings, classes, training, and other virtual events.

Webex has a built-in recorder that allows hosts to record and share their meetings with just a few clicks. But unfortunately, if you want to record a session in Webex as a participant, things can get a bit tricky.

Don’t worry though, I’ve got the solution to your problem. In this article, I’ll share some quick and easy ways to record on webex that I've been in personally over the past two years. No matter which device you own, I'll share a method for each device. Keep reading till the end. That being said, let’s get started!

In this article

  • Introduction

Free vs Paid Webex Users

Webex presentation rules, webex recording based on device, webex recording rules, recording webex meeting as the host, recording webex meeting as a participant, record webex meeting on iphone, record webex meeting on android, dremocreator key features & advantages, steps to record webex meeting with democreator, part 1. webex recording based on account type.

Before going into the details of webex recording, first you need to understand the relationship between the account type and the recording method.

Here, I’ll discuss the different recording options based on your device and account type.

Users with free webex accounts have very limited options with how and what to record. Let’s take its example: you can record only through the desktop app and recordings will be saved only locally_ not to the cloud.

You can only record Webex meetings if you have a premium account. And the good thing is_ you’ll be able to record on both desktop and mobile devices. Also, it allows you to save your recordings to your computer, or your account in the cloud.

Your role in the webex meeting also matters!Depending on this, you’ve different recording options available. If you’re a host, co-host, or presenter, you can record a meeting using webex app.

On the other hand, if you’re attending the meeting as a participant or presenter, then you’ve to use a third-party app like DemoCreator to record webex meetings.

Generally, desktop recordings are of better quality than a mobile device. However, the speed of your internet connection is also a possible factor. Besides that, there are a few other recording differences that I want you to be aware of:

First, if you’re recording webex meeting on your phone, it’s not possible to switch to the desktop app and continue the recording. Second, only one user is allowed to record webex meeting at a time. It means_if the meeting host is already recording, the co host can’t start a simultaneous recording.

There are two more webex recording rules you need to know:

The first option you’ve is to record your Webex meeting in the cloud. All the meetings will be stored in their online account if the host is using a paid account. If you’re a meeting participant who wants a meeting recording, you’ll have to ask the host. So, if you’re attending the meeting and want it recorded, then you’ll need to ask the host.

The second option is_ record the webex meeting on your computer where it will be saved locally.

Keep in mind_ only the meeting host, presenter, or co host can record with webex recorder.

Part 2. How to Record Webex Meeting

If you’re the meeting host or you’ve been granted permission by the host to record a session in webex, the next recording process is pretty simple.

Here’s how you can record your Webex meeting:

  • As participant

Step 1: Go >Webex live meeting

Step 2 : Click> ‘Record’ button in the bottom right-hand corner

record webex meeting on laptop

Step 3: Now you’ll have the option to choose where you want to save the recording if you’re on a paid account. Premium users can choose to save the recording to the cloud or their computer. Simply choose the option and click> ‘Save’

Step 4: Webex recording will start and a popup will appear in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. You can quickly pause and stop the recording.

record webex meeting

Your webex recording will be available for view as soon as you stop the recording.

view your meeting recording

If you’re attending a webex meeting as a participant, ask the meeting host to make you a co host or presenter. Also, the meeting host can assign co host role to multiple participants

Once they make you a co host or presenter, then you’ll have access to webex screen recorder.

If you’re not a co host or presenter, use a third-party tool like DemoCreator and learn how to record Webex meetings without permission. Below I've explained how you can easily record meetings with the DemoCreator and built-in phone settings.

I use Debut Video , but Camtasia also does it. In fact, almost any screen capture software.

  • Thanks. This one nchsoftware.com/capture/index.html ? –  Ishikawa Yoshi Commented Sep 5, 2012 at 13:20
  • That is what I use. And it's a free trial (although I think limited to what file type to export - EG, you can only export to MPEG or AVI (I can't remember now). –  Dave Commented Sep 5, 2012 at 13:21
  • Hm, i think Camtasia is suit for me. Can you tell me is there are any problems with sound configuration or anything else? In Camatasia or Debut. –  Ishikawa Yoshi Commented Sep 5, 2012 at 13:27
  • You need to do your own research, but both will work for you. –  Dave Commented Sep 5, 2012 at 13:28

you will only be able to record if you are a Host. If not you have to use third party applications to record.

Record a slide show with narration and slide timings

You can record your PowerPoint presentation—or a single slide—and capture voice, ink gestures, and your video presence. When completed, it’s like any other presentation. You can play it for your audience in a Slide Show or you can save the presentation as a video file. So, instead of just “handing the deck” to someone, people can see your presentation with the passion and personality intact.

A new feature for Microsoft 365 was rolled out in early 2022. Exactly when your business has this feature is also based on when your admin distributes new features in Microsoft 365.

This article contains procedures for both the new experience and the classic experience:

About Record in PowerPoint

Export or turn your presentation into a video

Classic experience

Turn on the Recording tab of the ribbon: On the File tab of the ribbon, click  Options . In the Options  dialog box, click the Customize Ribbon  tab on the left. Then, in the right-hand box that lists the available ribbon tabs, select the Recording  check box. Click OK .

The Customize Ribbon tab of the PowerPoint 2016 Options dialog box has an option to add the Recording tab to the PowerPoint ribbon.

To get ready to record, select Record on either the Recording  tab or the Slide Show  tab of the ribbon.

Clicking the upper half of the button starts you on the current slide.

Clicking the lower half of the button gives you the option to start from the beginning or from the current slide.

The Record Slide Show commands on the Recording Tab in PowerPoint.

(The Clear  command deletes narrations or timings, so be careful when you use it. Clear  is grayed out unless you have previously recorded some slides.)

The slide show opens in the Recording window (which looks similar to Presenter view), with buttons at the top left for starting, pausing, and stopping the recording. Click the round, red button (or press R on your keyboard) when you are ready to start the recording. A three-second countdown ensues, then the recording begins.

The Presentation Recording window in PowerPoint 2016, with video narration window preview turned on.

The current slide is shown in the main pane of the Recording window.

You can stop the recording any time by pressing Alt + S on your keyboard.

Navigation arrows on either side of the current slide allow you to move to the previous and next slides.

PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 automatically records the time you spend on each slide, including any Animate text or objects  steps that occur, and the use of any triggers on each slide.

You can record audio or video narration as you run through your presentation. The buttons at the lower-right corner of the window allow you to toggle on or off the microphone, camera, and camera preview:

On/off buttons for the microphone, camera, and camera previewing window

If you use the pen, highlighter, or eraser, PowerPoint records those actions for playback also.

Inking tools in the Recording window

If you re-record your narration (including audio and ink), PowerPoint erases your previously recorded narration (including audio and ink) before you start recording again on the same slide.

You can also re-record by going to Slide Show  >  Record .

You can pick a pointer tool (pen, eraser, or highlighter) from the array of tools just below the current slide. There are also color selection boxes for changing the color of the ink. ( Eraser  is grayed out unless you have previously added ink to some slides.)

To end your recording, select the square Stop button (or press S on your keyboard).

When you finish recording your narration, a small picture appears in the lower-right corner of the recorded slides. The picture is an audio icon, or, if the web camera was on during the recording, a still image from the webcam.

Sound icon

The recorded slide show timing is automatically saved. (In Slide Sorter view, the timings are listed beneath each slide.)

In this process, what you record is embedded in each slide, and the recording can be played back in Slide Show. A video file is not created by this recording process. However, if you need one, you can save your presentation as a video with a few extra steps.

Preview the recorded slide show

On the Slide Show  tab, click From Beginning  or From Current Slide .

During playback, your animations, inking actions, audio and video will play in sync.

Shows the "from beginning" button on the slide show tab in PowerPoint

Preview the recorded sound

In the Recording window, the triangular Play  button near the top left corner lets you preview the recording of the slide that currently has the focus in that window.

Start, Stop, and Play buttons in the Recording window

In Normal view, click the sound icon or picture in the lower-right corner of the slide, and then click Play . (When you preview individual audio in this way, you won't see recorded animation or inking.)

Click Play

You can pause playback while previewing the audio.

Set the slide timings manually

PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 automatically records your slide timings when you add narrations, or you can manually set the slide timings to accompany your narrations.

In Normal view, click the slide that you want to set the timing for.

On the Transitions tab, in the Timing group, under Advance Slide , select the After check box, and then enter the number of seconds that you want the slide to appear on the screen. Repeat the process for each slide that you want to set the timing for.

If you want the next slide to appear either when you click the mouse or automatically after the number of seconds that you enter—whichever comes first—select both the On Mouse Click and the After check boxes.

You can use manual slide timings to the trim the end of a recorded slide segment. For example, if the end of a slide segment concludes with two seconds of unnecessary audio, simply set the timing for advancing to the next slide so that it happens before the unnecessary audio. That way you don't have to re-record the audio for that slide.

Delete timings or narration

The Clear command is for deleting timings or narration from your recording that you don't want or that you want to replace.

In the Recording window, the Clear command in the top margin of the window allows you to:

Clear recordings on the current slide

Clear recordings on all slides

In Normal view, there are four different Clear commands that allow you to:

Delete the timings on the currently selected slide

Delete the timings on all slides at once

Delete the narration on the currently selected slide

Delete the narration on all slides at once

If you do not want to delete all the timings or narration in your presentation, open a specific slide that has a timing or narration that you do want to delete.

On the Recording tab of the PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 ribbon, on the Record Slide Show button, click the down arrow, point to Clear , and then choose the appropriate Clear command for your situation.

After you've recorded your PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 presentation, any timings, gestures, and audio you performed are saved on the individual slides. But you can turn them all off if you want to view the slide show without them:

To turn off recorded slide timings: On the Slide Show tab, clear the Use Timings box.

To turn off recorded narrations and ink: On the Slide Show tab, clear the Play Narrations box.

Publish the recording to share it with others

Once you've edited the recording to your satisfaction, you can make it available to others by publishing to Microsoft Stream.

With the presentation open, on the Recording tab, select Publish to Stream .

Type a title and a description for the video.

Set other options, including whether you want others in your organization to have permission to see the video.

Select the Publish button.

The upload process can take several minutes, depending on the length of the video. A status bar at the bottom of the PowerPoint window tracks the progress, and PowerPoint shows a message when the upload is finished:

PowerPoint notifies you when the upload is finished

Click the message to go directly to the video playback page on Microsoft Stream.

Create closed captions

To make your video more accessible by including closed captions, choose from these options, which are described in separate Help articles:

Manually write a closed caption file yourself

Get a closed-caption file automatically generated by Microsoft Stream

Once you have a closed-caption file, you can add it to your video file by using PowerPoint .

Record a slide show

With your presentation open, on the Slide Show tab, click Record Slide Show .

(The Clear command deletes narrations or timings, so be careful when you use it. Clear is grayed out unless you have previously recorded some slides.)

In the Record Slide Show box, check or clear the boxes for your recording, and click Start Recording .

Shows record slideshow dialog in PowerPoint

More about these options:

Slide and animation timings : PowerPoint automatically records the time you spend on each slide, including any animation steps that occur, and the use of any triggers on each slide.

Narrations, ink, and laser pointer: Record your voice as you run through your presentation. If you use the pen, highlighter, eraser, or laser pointer, PowerPoint records those for playback as well.

Important:    Pen, highlighter, and eraser recording are available only if you have the February 16, 2015 update for PowerPoint 2013 or a later version of PowerPoint installed. In earlier versions of PowerPoint, pen and highlighter strokes are saved as ink annotation shapes.

At the top left corner of the window is the Recording toolbar, which you can use to:

Go to the next slide

If you re-record your narration (including audio, ink, and laser pointer), PowerPoint erases your previously recorded narration (including audio, ink, and laser pointer) when you start recording again on the same slide.

You can also re-record by going to Slide Show > Record Slide Show .

To use ink, eraser, or the laser pointer in your recording, right-click the slide, click Pointer options , and pick your tool:

Laser Pointer

Highlighter

Eraser (This option is grayed out unless you have previously added ink to some slides.)

To change the color of the ink, click Ink Color .

To end your recording, right-click the final slide, and click End Show .

Tip:  When you finish recording your narration, a sound icon appears in the lower-right corner of each slide that has narration.

The recorded slide show timings are automatically saved. Timings are shown in Slide Sorter view just beneath each slide.

In this process, what you record is embedded in each slide, and the recording can be played back in Slide Show. A video file is not created by this recording process. However, if you want a video file, you can save your presentation as a video with a few extra steps.

On the Slide Show tab, click From Beginning or From Current Slide.

During playback, your animations, inking actions, laser pointer, audio and video play in sync.

Preview the recorded audio

In Normal view, click the sound icon in the lower-right corner of the slide, and then click Play.

PowerPoint automatically records your slide timings when you add narrations, or you can manually set the slide timings to accompany your narrations.

On the Transitions tab, in the Timing group, under Advance Slide , select the After check box, and then enter the number of seconds indicating how long the slide should appear on the screen. Repeat the process for each slide that you want to set the timing for.

Tip:  If you want the next slide to appear either when you click the mouse or automatically after the number of seconds that you enter—whichever comes first—select both the On Mouse Click and the After check boxes.

The Clear command is for deleting timings or narration from your recording that you don't want or that you want to replace. There are four different Clear commands that allow you to:

On the Slide Show tab of the PowerPoint ribbon, on the Record Slide Show button, click the down arrow, point to Clear, and then choose the appropriate Clear command for your situation.

Turn off timings or turn off narrations, ink, and laser pointer

After you've recorded your PowerPoint presentation, any timings, gestures, and audio you performed are saved on the individual slides. But you can turn them all off if you want to view the slide show without them:

To turn off recorded narrations, ink, and the laser pointer: On the Slide Show tab, clear the Play Narrations box.

How to record presenting your slides

The conference organisers may ask you to record you presenting alongside your presentation slides. This is often called a "picture on picture" recording. There are a variety of options for software that you can use to record picture in picture and this is a great way to add additional engagement and personality to your content.

Note: The conference organisers will confirm the length of presentation and/or number of slides allowable so be sure to stick to these limits.

Using the Webex meeting software

Using Webex, you can record yourself and your slide presentation. Webex is the software that will be used later to access the live stages at the event so it's worth getting familiar with it now.

  • Create your Webex account: https://cart.webex.com/sign-up-webex
  • Download Webex Events - this will also be used later at the live event.
  • Start a Webex Meeting in your personal room.
  • Refer to recording tips article before getting started.
  • While in your personal room, share your presentation/content and have it open on the first page.
  • Record your video , then start the presentation while moving through the slides. Both the video and presentation will be visible in the recording. Be aware your picture will appear at the top of the screen, with the content below it.
  • Download your video to your computer. It will be in MP4 format. Check the length against the limitations set by the organisers.
  • Upload the video when ready to the Presentations module in Ex Ordo: Uploading Presentation Files

Using recording software

If you are using a PC, you may wish to use Windows Moviemaker and on Mac you may use Quicktime Player.

Using specialised software

Another free option is Open Broadcaster Software or OBS available on both platforms. This programme is very powerful, allowing you to set “Scenes” and have input from multiple sources at the same time.

This will allow you to record your Powerpoint on your main screen while simultaneously recording your webcam.

In addition to having your recording of the camera and the powerpoint at the same time, you can also add text or graphics on screen. It will also record the audio from your screen in addition to your microphone.

OBS have an extensive wiki around what is possible with this tool.

How to incorporate good presentation skills into a screen sharing session

' src=

Tags: Audience Engagement , Collaboration Solutions , Collaboration Tools , Screen Sharing , Soft Skills , Webex Tips

With the recent push toward telecommuting and remote workforces, businesses can grow their headcount without opening new branch offices. Eliminating daily commutes can be a major boon for both businesses and their employees. A 2-year Stanford study found that remote workers were more productive than their office-based peers . Telecommuters were also half as likely to leave their company for another job.

Business leaders will need to address a few challenges to make the most of this opportunity and create a fruitful working environment for their remote workforce. Most notably: Keeping telecommuters connected to their office-based peers.

Screen sharing tools allow dispersed employees to work closely together, even when they are hundreds or thousands of miles apart.

Of course, a screen sharing session is only as good as the presenter leading it. Participants are more likely to zone out or get distracted if the presenter doesn’t have their complete attention. To make your online meetings as productive as possible, be sure to hone your presentation skills with these tips.

Don’t let your nerves show

Depending on the size of your screen sharing session, a presenter could be leading a discussion with a handful of people or coordinating a webinar viewed by hundreds of remote users. Facing a large audience could make anyone nervous, and some individuals might get butterflies in their stomachs at the prospect of leading a discussion with just a few coworkers.

But it’s important not to let your nerves get the best of you. Nervous energy can manifest in very obvious ways that distract the audience and make it seem like the presenter is unprepared. Tripping over your words, speaking quickly, and fidgeting are all tell-tale nervous signs. Although there’s nothing wrong with being a little anxious about a screen-sharing session, here are a few ways that may help them not shine through: t ake deep breaths and don’t rush through the presentation. Crack a joke or two to diffuse any tension you might feel. Record a couple of run-throughs of the presentation so you can scrutinize your body language and speech patterns.

The more mindful you are, the more at ease you will be. And that means you will be less likely to rush through a presentation or forget to cover an important action item.

Engage the audience

Screen sharing sessions should be collaborative, but it can be easy for attendees to hang back and watch the action from afar. Actively get everyone on a video conference involved, asking people directly for their input. Encourage people to ask questions about the material.

Once you make this kind of active engagement routine with your video conference calls, attendees will expect that high level of interaction and come to each online meeting prepared to contribute to the discussion.

Screen sharing software can be extremely helpful in this regard. Rather than try to describe a spreadsheet, slide deck, or other document over the phone, employees can use a screen sharing feature to easily show conference meeting participants that material, gather feedback, and make changes in real time. Staff members can also pass presenter tools to different stakeholders and get more accomplished during a meeting.

Cisco Webex has numerous features to assist onboarding, training, and cross-departmental collaboration. If you have a remote workforce, a video conferencing and screen sharing solution is key to keeping everyone in the loop and working together. Start your free plan today to discover how Webex can help you manage your remote workforce and get more productivity out of your telecommuting employees.

Manage Your Recorded Events (classic) Events

After an event in Events (classic) is recorded, you can manage the recording on your Webex site.

View Recorded Events Overview

If an event host publishes a recorded event on your Webex site, you can view the recording. A host may require that you do one or both of the following to view a recorded event:

Register to view a recorded event. In this case, you must provide your name, email address, and any other information that the host requires.

Play or Download a Recorded Event

You can stream or download a recording file, depending on which option the host specifies.

When you play a recording for the first time, your Webex site automatically downloads the Webex Player to your computer.

1

If the host requires that you have a user account to view a recording, sign in to your Webex site.

2

Select Webex Events (classic) in the left navigation bar.

3

On the left navigation bar, select Attend an Event > List of Events.

4

Select View Event Recordings.

5

Do one of the following, as appropriate:

6

If playing or downloading the recording requires a password, enter the password that the host gave to you.

7

Select Playback or Download, as appropriate.

8

If viewing the recording requires registration, provide the required information on the form that appears, and then select Submit.

Publish a Recorded Event Overview

If you record an event using the Webex Recorder, you can publish and make available the recording on your event service website's Event Recordings page in one of the following ways:

If the recording is made from the integrated or standalone Webex Recorder, upload the recording file, with a .wrf extension, from your local computer to the My Event Recordings page and publish it from that page.

If the event was recorded on the server, the Webex server automatically uploads the recording file to the My Event Recordings page. You can maintain and publish the recording from that page.

Specify the web address, or URL, at which the recording resides on a publicly accessible web server, such as your organization's website. To use this option, you can ask your organization's Web Administrator to store the recording on the server and provide you with the URL for the recording.

Send an email to share the event recording.

Send an email to vendors to share an event recording.

Before publishing a recorded event, you can:
