  • Proceed to the Guidance and Testing Center (GTC) to secure an application form and pay non-refundable entrance examination fee at the Cashier’s Office.

The Claro M. Recto Academy of Advanced Studies (CMR-AAS), envisions itself as a competitive center of excellence in graduate studies with a global edge.

The Graduate School was formally opened  in the School Year of 1953-1954 with course offerings leading to Masters Degrees in Law, Political Science, and History, with Dr. Jose P. Laurel as the first Dean.  Dr. Benico Catapusan succeeded Dr. Laurel in 1960 as Director of the Graduate School.

The Graduate School was re-named the Claro M. Recto Academy of Advanced Studies in 1962, in honor of the late Senator Claro M. Recto.

The start of the School Year 1967-1968 saw the CMR-AAS offering additional subjects in Advanced Marketing and Statistics, Law, Education, and English.

The CMR-AAS expanded its facilities and academic staff in 1971 to keep up with an increase in student enrollment and started new program offerings in the Master of  Arts in Filipino and the Master in Business Administration.

The Master of Arts in Public Administration was added to its program of offerings in 1973.  Success in the Manila campus encouraged Management to set up the Graduate School in the Lyceum of Batangas in the same year. 

A doctoral program, Ph.D. in Fiscal Studies, was introduced in 1992.  The second doctoral program, Ph.D. in Public policies and Management, was approved by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports in 1993.

Enrollment in the graduate school reached an all time high then of 300 students.

The CMR-AAS prospered under the leadership of Dr. Angel Q. Yoingco as Dean.  He was also Board Member and occupant of the Andres Soriano Professorial Chair in  Economic, until his retirement in 2003.

Professor Leonida T. Africa, then Vice-President for Academic Affairs, took over from Dr. Yoingco the headship of the CMR-ASS, as concurrent Officer-in-Charge, until her retirement on May 15, 2005.

The Academy was visited in early 2004 by an evaluation team from the CHED as part of the government’s effort to determine and promote the quality of graduate education in the country.

Dr. Kate C. Botengan, appointed as Vice-President for Academic Affairs in May 16, 2005, was also appointed on concurrent basis as Dean of the CMR-ASS on the same date.

Dr. Conrado  E.Iñigo Jr., appointed as the Vice-President for Academic Affairs in August 2008 and also appointed as Dean of the Graduate School on November 16, 2007 to May 15, 2007.

Dr. Victor B. Endriga, appointed as Dean of the Graduate School on October 1, 2008.

Dr. Jose Ma. Gonzales, appointed as Vice-Dean of the Graduate School on June 1, 2011.

LPU Jalandhar is conducting the National Entrance and Scholarship Test (LPUNEST) for Ph.D. aspirants. The Ph.D. program is available in 68 specializations . The university offers flexible coursework under three options:

Lovely Professional University offers Full-time Ph.D. programs for a minimum duration of 3 years to a maximum duration of 6 years across the following specializations:

The candidates seeking admission must qualify in the following.

  • Candidates must have a Master’s degree with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks (2 years/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor's degree course).
  • Candidates who have completed 1 Year/ 2 Semester Master’s Degree programme after 4 year/ 8 semester Bachelor’s degree with minimum 55% marks are also eligible. 
  • A relaxation of 5% for SC/ST/ OBC-NCL/ Differently Abled/ EWS is available in the minimum marks prescribed. 
  • A candidate having a 4-year/ 8 semester Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum 75% aggregate marks and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in teaching/ research/ industry are also eligible. 
  • To get a Ph.D. in engineering disciplines applicants must have a relevant Post Graduation degree in Engineering.
  • However, students are selected based on their performance in the Entrance Test LPUNEST.
  • The Entrance exam can be considered for both admission and Scholarship.

LPU Ph.D. Admission 2024

Admission to the Ph.D. program is done based on the candidate’s performance in LPUNEST followed by an interview. The candidates are selected based on their performance in the written test (70% weightage) and interview (30% weightage).

How to apply?

  • Visit the official site of LPU.
  • Fill out the Admission form.
  • Deposit the Initial Fee.
  • Upload Requisite Documents.
  • Apply for LPUNEST for a Scholarship.
  • Deposit the Remaining Fees.
  • Apply for Program Transfer.

LPU Coursework is mandatory for all Ph.D. students. During the first or second semester, the coursework must be completed by the Candidates prescribed by the University. The coursework consists of three courses:

  • Course-I:  Foundations of Research and Publication Ethics
  • Course-II:  Research Methodology
  • Course-III:  Research Writing and Presentation

75% of minimum attendance is mandatory for the candidates during the course. Candidates must obtain 55% marks in individual courses each to secure the degree. Thesis submission and Seminar presentation are mandatory for the candidates to evaluate the process of getting a degree. The thesis work is followed by a viva voce examination conducted by the examiners. So overall performance is calculated for issuing the degree.

Ques. What are the important dates for LPU Ph.D. Admission 2024?

Ans.  Registrations for Ph.D. at LPU started on February 12, 2024, and the last date for application is May 08, 2024. The entrance test will be conducted from May 10 to May 12, 2024, with results announced on May 18, 2024. Interview slots can be booked from May 18 to May 21, 2024, and interviews will be held from May 25 to May 31, 2024. The last date for admission is June 30, 2024.

Ques. What are the options for flexible coursework in LPU's Ph.D. program?

Ans. LPU offers three options for the flexibility of Ph.D. courses: Weekend classes (Saturdays and Sundays from August to December), 4 days of coursework every month (August to December), and 15 days of coursework in December.

Which one is better for a BTech (CSE): Lovely Professional University or Galgotias University?

I did my BTech CSE from Galgotias University, but I will put forth an unbiased opinion. 

Here are some factors to compare the two universities-

LPU has good facilities and infrastructure, but I would suggest you opt for Galgotias since it will offer you better opportunities and academics.

  • The tuition fee for B.Tech CSE at Galgotias is  INR 1.54 lakh per annum . The exam fee is  INR 15,000 per annum . 
  • At LPU, the BTech CSE course fee is  INR 1.40 lakh per semester . The exam fee is  INR 4,500 per semester . But LPU offers various scholarships to meritorious students. You can visit-  https://www.lpu.in/programmes/engineering/b-tech-computer-science  for more details. 
  • Education-  The faculty and curriculum of GU are better. Getting decent grades is also comparatively easier at Galgotias.
  • Management-  LPU has over 10,000+ students in total, which is why it’s difficult for the college management to cater to the needs of each and everyone. The management at GU handles student problems more effectively.
  • Campus-  LPU has a bigger and better campus as compared to Galgotias.

How is the BBA course at Lovely Professional University?

I say LPU is a good choice for doing BBA because of the following reasons:

  • LPU’s Business School is ACBSP accredited, its a US based organization which provides accreditation services to business school all around the world, so you are getting a degree accredited by USA.

Yes, LPU offers Psychology programs. 

You can opt for  BA (Hons.) in Psychology  at LPU. The Eligibility criteria for this course is that you must score min. 60% in class 12th with English as a compulsory subject. You’ll be required to successfully complete LPUNEST for the admission. In addition to BA Hons. program, LPU also offers an  MA in Psychology .

I am in my final year of BTech CSE from LPU. I can personally say that our program stands because of the facilities, faculty members, and curriculum. It also helps us get industry exposure and gain both theory and practical knowledge.

Students who wish to apply for the LPU PhD course must have completed a 2-year master’s degree in the relevant discipline after a 3-year bachelor’s degree with 55% marks. Candidates who have finished a 1-year master’s degree with at least 55% aggregate marks after a 4-year bachelor’s degree can also apply. 

The admission process is based on LPUNEST (PhD) scores. Meeting the basic eligibility criteria indicates that the applicant possesses the academic foundation required to complete the PhD course.

LPU PhD Admission

Candidates seeking LPU PhD admission must meet the respective eligibility criteria. Admission to the PhD program offered by LPU is based on LPUNEST (PhD) scores. Candidates who qualify for LPUNEST need to appear for an interview. Candidates’ performance in the entrance test holds 70% weightage and 30% weightage is reserved for the interview performance.

Candidates with UGC (NET/JRF) / CSIR (NET/JRF) / ICAR (JRF/SRF) / GATE/ GPAT/ SLET (Punajb only)/ ICAR (NET) scores are exempted from appearing in the LPUNEST (PhD) exam. Also, M.Phil graduates or teacher fellowship holders need not appear for the entrance test. The interview process will hold 100% weightage for candidates who are exempted from the LPUNEST (PhD) entrance test.

  • Step 3: Fill out the form available there.
  • Step 4: Attach the required documents.
  • Step 5: Apply for the LPUNEST examination.

  • Step 7: Submit the form.

LPU offers PhD scholarships based on the students’ performance in LPUNEST. On the basis of their LPUNEST PhD cutoff, the candidates are divided into “Groups.” The scholarships details based on LPUNEST PhD scores are provided in the following table:

Graduate School

1. Master of Arts in Education major in Educational Management : The program prepares students to assume Managerial positions in the school system. The principles and techniques of all aspects of school management in a globalized environment are studied comprehensively.

2. Master of Arts in Education major in Guidance and Counseling : The program presents the principles, tools, and techniques of guidance under varying and changing school environment and clients with the end view of producing counselors who are attuned and sensitive to the needs of students within globalizing and internationalizing environment.

3. Master of Arts in Education with specialization in Indigenous Education : The program is designed to enable students to acquire deeper understanding of indigenous thought, indigenous pedagogy in the teaching- learning environment. Students of this program will be honed in approaches that will strengthen their cultural competence in dealing with indigenous communities and issues that affect the latter’s wellbeing. Indigenous communities will serve as learning arenas with indigenous elders as resource persons from which learning materials will be drawn. Impetus will also be given to the teaching of the mother tongue being a tool for transmitting culture. Students will endeavor to address this growing need to make classroom education more engaging, meaningful and relevant to all learners.

4. Master in Indigenous Studies : The program is centered on the foundations of critical thought on indigenous knowledge, systems and practices and their ramifications. The pursuit of social justice for indigenous communities often times beset by discrimination, aggressive developments that have led to their marginalization find prominence in the program. MIS also focuses strongly on discourses that led to the recolonization of indigenous peoples. Discourses on social inclusivity as an Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) provision will be obtained through mastery of cultural competence drawn from “hands on” participatory research done with indigenous peoples in their own settings.

5. Master of Arts in Foreign Service : The program is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of students intending to work in International Relations, particularly in the areas of government, international organizations, business, and the academe.

6. Master of Arts in Communication : The program will develop students’ professional and intellectual skills to enable them to be appropriately prepared for a career in public relations, corporate communication, the media or consultancy related to the creative industries. Its purpose is also to develop students’ skills and independent learning ability to enable them to extend their personal development.

7. Master in International Hospitality Management : The program provides background every graduate student will need in today’s rapidly changing global marketplace. It prepares students to plan, develop, market and manage hospitality sector businesses and interrelated business organizations in local and international arena. It gives students a solid foundation for understanding and managing cultural diversity in the workplace, and underscores the importance of protocol in international interactions.

8. Master in International Tourism Management : The program will train professionals and managers who lead projects in the tourism sector to become more efficient in making decisions within dynamic, global sector and to take advantage of the impact of new technologies.

9. Master in Business Administration : The program is intended for the development of a generalist business manager, with the expertise in the functional areas of Finance, Marketing, Production, and Human Resources.

10. Master in Public Administration : The program presents principles and techniques, personnel administration, and fiscal planning involved in the management of public organizations/agencies are studied and discussed, with emphasis on problem solving towards the provision of quality public service, sensitive expertise, and compassionate corrupt-free leadership in government.

11. Master in Customs Administration and Supply Chain : The program aims to qualify individuals from a variety of backgrounds, including Customs and other public sector agencies and businesses involved in cross border trade, to apply advanced knowledge and skills in a range of professional Customs Administration contexts. The program integrates technical skills with specialized customs administration theory and practice, and serves as a pathway to further learning.

12. Master in Information Technology: This course is designed to provide students with appropriate practical understanding, skills and knowledge for managing IT use, change and development. The primary aim is to allow IT professionals the opportunity for professional upgrading or an extension of their qualifications and experience.

GUIDELINES FOR THE PHD REQUIREMENTS PUBLICATION In alignment to international accreditation and standards of PhD. programs, effective year 2020 PhD students pursuing their respective program degrees in the graduate school is required during the duration of their academic studies in LPU to publish at least one research paper in either a reputable National or International Research Journal. This is aside from the end of the course research dissertation requirement. The publication shall serve as a prerequisite to be able to take comprehensive examination. This applies to Graduate School doctorate students with ID number of 2020 above.

13. Ph.D. in Public Policy and Management : The program is designed to hone the leader in the study of the science and art of government of nations and their different components: the process and procedures of governance; skills and techniques of research as basis for the formulation and implementation of public policy; and the many other issues arising in public management. Issues peculiar to Philippine Public Policies and Management shall serve as the starting point for student-teacher interactions.

14. Ph.D. in Fiscal Management : The program provides specialized training and preparation for those either are already in government service or are just planning to join. The course program covers, deficit financing, and all other accountabilities and responsibilities related to maximal efficiency and affectivity of the management of public finances for the greater good.

15. Ph.D. in Business Management : The program is to enable working professionals with already an advanced degree to develop themselves in deeper and more concentrated areas of management theory so as to become knowledgeable in the literature and practice of management, to enhance comprehension of human behavior in organizations, to build an understanding of industrial organization and organization theory, to build an understanding of organization strategy and firm performance and develop knowledge and skills in research methodologies.

16. Ph.D. in International Hospitality Management : The program supports students in developing a broad range of professional, technical and transferable skills required by the industry. Students will gain the theoretical background, skills and experiences to become a successful leader in the hospitality industry.

17. Ph.D. in International Tourism Management : The program will help students to understand and critically evaluate ideas at the cutting edge of tourism research alongside research skills that will enable you to predict and evaluate the changing business environment within a tourism context.

18. Ph.D. in English Language : The program designed to provide scholarly and pedagogical training for the merging intellectual leaders and stewards of the English language. In this program, English and non-English language teachers will be carefully trained and mentored in the theories and methods of language teaching and research to develop skills and relevant to their chosen field and specialization and to enable them to undertake a complete research project that will make a sustainable contribution to the field of language.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

The Details shown are as per the August term, Details for Spring term may be subject to change; please keep checking for further updates.

The following guidelines shall be applicable for Ph.D. scholars, which would supersede all the previous attendance guidelines.

  • The Ph.D. scholars need to attend the mandatory course work at University campus.
  • Scholar will be required to maintain 75% attendance during the course work to be eligible to attend end-term examination.
  • After the successful completion of the course work, the scholars will be allocated with the supervisor with whom the scholars would be required to attend the scheduled interaction slots.
  • The interaction with the supervisor can be held in offline mode, online mode through LPU My Class platform or hybrid mode (online+ offline).
  • All Ph.D. research scholars need to maintain at least 75% attendance in interaction slots to be eligible for End term presentation.
  • Apart from pre-scheduled interaction slots, additional interactions slots as scheduled by the supervisor shall be mandatory for the scholar to attend.
  • Bonus attendance and duty leave criteria shall be as applicable as per University Policy.
  • In case of a particular tenure a Ph.D. scholar publishes a paper in the Scopus Indexed Journal/Conference or have a granted Patent in his/her name or have a Funded Research Project then the attendance criteria shall be waived off for the upcoming evaluation. However, the benefit of a particular research achievement shall only be claimed once towards exemption from attendance.

Note: Ph.D. research scholars for whom the Pre-Submission evaluation is recommended, will be exempt from the attendance requirements.

  • This Special Schedule of counselling will help the students with existing score of JEE (Mains) or LPUNEST to confirm their admission and they need not to appear for LPUNEST exam again.
  • Regular Schedule of counselling may be conducted only on the basis of LPUNEST exam and not on the basis of JEE (Mains) score so all candidates having JEE Mains (Jan Schedule) score are advised not to wait for Regular Schedule of counselling and try to confirm the admission through Special Schedule of counselling .
  • Applicants who do not have LPUNEST score or JEE (Mains) score because they did not appear for exams in January / February shall apply on or before 20th April, 2020. The schedule of LPUNEST exam and counselling / admission process will be informed later.
  • Candidates participating in Special Counselling schedule (as per Table mentioned above), if interested, may appear for LPUNEST to improve their score for Scholarship and/or participate in Regular Schedule of counselling again for changing / improving the allotted branch.
  • The ranks declared in Special Counselling schedule will not be used for LPUNEST Study Grant.
