My Favorite Food

As the world is advancing day by day, it is becoming easier to get access to many kinds of food at our doorstep. Every day, we all want to consume great and delicious cuisine. There are many different varieties of food accessible all throughout the world. We all like different foods, however, my personal favourite is burgers. I have eaten many cuisines but my favourite food is definitely a burger. I cannot resist myself when it comes to burgers.

Burgers are one of the most convenient and easiest foods to eat on the fly when we’re in a hurry. We can have a burger at any time of day, whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or supper, and maybe some fries and a Coke to go with it. Many restaurants are well-known for making their speciality burgers in a particular style. Preparation changes from one establishment to the next. But what exactly makes a burger taste so good? They will taste vary depending on where you go, but they are all built the same. It is made up of a bun, a ground meat patty, and various toppings like cheese, onion slices, lettuce, and other sauces.

They are so soft yet crunchy, fresh and juicy that I love eating them. Even though there are many kinds of burgers, my favourite one is a chicken burger. The chicken patty gives the burger a juicy taste and it tingles my taste buds every time I eat it. I can already smell and taste it in my mouth as soon as I walked inside McDonald’s or any other restaurant that serves chicken burgers. As soon as I take a huge mouthful of it, I forget about any problems or troubles that are going on in the outer world and concentrate my entire concentration just on my chicken burger.

I love eating a burger which is filled with cheese and vegetables . The more vegetables you add, the better it tastes. My personal favourite is lettuce. It gives the burger the right amount of freshness and crunchiness.

I always eat my burger with ketchup. Most importantly, the thing I love about eating burgers is that I get to eat French fries along with them. They work as a great side to the dish and also make my stomach full.

Even though I liked eating a burger from a famous fast food joint, nothing beats the chicken burger my mother makes at home. She prepares everything from scratch, even the burger. Thus, it is extremely fresh and healthy too.

I know and feel that burgers have the great flavour and taste that would make anyone’s stomach pleased after a long day of work. I can tell by the reactions on people’s faces when they order their preferred burger variant. Overall, I don’t believe any other fast food will taste as good as a chicken burger. It’s just difficult to think that something will triumph in the future. As a result, I consider my favourite dish to be the best ever created.

A Great Variety

Perhaps the great thing about burgers is the great variety they offer. It has options for all people, who prefer vegetarian, non-vegetarian and even vegans. Thus, you can select the patty of your burger and dive right in.

There are a large number of burger joints being started in every corner of the city, each serving a variety of their own specialised and self-curated recipes. Burgers that are health-friendly and a go-to with a diet are also being introduced by these newly upcoming burger places. There are a lot many burger cafes that give their customers the choice to create their own burgers by providing them with a choice between patties, fillings, veggies, sauces as well as the number of burger layers they want.

Even though my personal favourite is a chicken burger, I also enjoy eating cheeseburgers and vegetable burgers. For me, all burgers taste delicious. Whenever we go out to eat with friends , I always order a burger.

My friends who do not eat non-vegetarian also eat burgers thanks to the great variety it offers. When we order food at home, we make sure to offer all kinds of burgers from cheeseburgers to chicken burgers, so that we get a taste of everything in our meal. Thus, I love burgers and their great variety makes it better.

Conclusion of My Favorite Food Essay

Even though my favourite food is a burger, I enjoy other foods as well like Pizza and Pasta. However, I feel when it comes to eating daily, nothing beats homemade food. The food we eat daily is what helps us gain energy. We cannot eat our favourite food daily as it will become boring then, but our staple food is something we enjoy eating on an everyday basis.

Question 2: Should you eat your favourite food all the time?

Answer 2: No, never. Favourite foods are meant to be enjoyed when there is any special occasion, or when you are tired of your regular homemade food. “Food has so many things in them such as calories and fat. Eating healthy is important for everyone to live a healthy life. You can eat it, but eating it daily is bad for you stay healthy and eat the right foods. Deep fried foods hurt your health in many ways. Eat healthy and exercise to reduce the chances of any health problems.”

In this essay, Tapia writes about deep-fried foods and their effects on people’s health. She says they are high in trans fat, which is detrimental to one’s health. On the other hand, she notes reasons why people still eat foods such as potato chips and french fries, including exercise and simply “making the most of life.” Despite this, Tapia asserts her position that these foods should not be eaten in excess and can lead to a variety of health issues. She encourages people to live healthy lives by enjoying food but not overeating.

“Because while a goal of many vegetables a day is admirable, in the beginning it’s much more sustainable to start with something as little as two. I learned that with an approach of two-vegetable dishes at a time, I would be a lot more consistent, and over time a large variety would become very natural. In fact, now following that framework and cooking a few simple dishes a day, I often find that it’s almost difficult to not reach at least several kinds of vegetables a day.”

Okumura discusses simple, healthy cooking in the Japanese tradition. While many tend to include as many vegetables as possible in their dishes for “health,” Okumura writes that just a few vegetables are necessary to make healthy but delicious dishes. With the help of Japanese pantry staples like miso and soy sauce, she makes a variety of traditional Japanese side dishes. She shows the wonders of food, even when executed in its simplest form.

“I make pesto out of kale stems, toast the squash seeds for salad and repurpose my leftovers into brand new dishes. I love cooking because it’s an exercise in play. Cooking is forgiving in improvisation, and it can often surprise you. For example, did you know that adding ginger juice to your fried rice adds a surprisingly refreshing flavor that whets your appetite? Neither did I, until my housemate showed me their experiment.”

In her essay, Luo writes about her love for food and cooking, specifically how she can combine different ingredients from different cuisines to make delicious dishes. She recalls experiences with her native Chinese food and Italian, Singaporean, and Japanese Cuisine. The beauty of food, she says, is the way one can improvise a dish and create something magical.

4.   My Favorite Food by Jayasurya Mayilsamy

“There is no better feeling in the world than a warm pizza box on your lap. My love for Pizza is very high. I am always hungry for pizza, be it any time of the day. Cheese is the secret ingredient of any food it makes any food taste yummy. Nearly any ingredient can be put on pizza. Those diced vegetables, jalapenos, tomato sauce, cheese and mushrooms make me eat more and more like a unique work of art.”

Mayilsamy writes about pizza, a food he can’t get enough of, and why he enjoys it as much as he does. He explains the different elements of a good pizza, such as cheese, tomato sauce, other toppings, and the crust. He also briefly discusses the different types of pizzas, such as thin crust and deep dish. Finally, he gives readers an excellent description of a mouthwatering pizza, reminding them of the feeling of eating their favorite food.

5. Osteria Francescana: does the world’s best restaurant live up to the hype? by Tanya Gold

“After three hours, I am exhausted from eating Bottura’s dreams, and perhaps that is the point. If some of it is delicious, it is also consuming. That is the shadow cast by the award in the hallway, next to the one of a man strangled by food. I do not know if this is the best restaurant on Earth, or even if such a claim is possible. I suspect such lists are designed largely for marketing purposes: when else does Restaurant magazine, which runs the competition, get global coverage for itself and its sponsors?”

Gold reviews the dishes at Osteria Francescana, which is regarded by many as the #1 restaurant in the world. She describes the calm, formal ambiance and the polished interiors of the restaurants. Most importantly, she goes course by course, describing each dish in detail, from risotto inspired by the lake to parmesan cheese in different textures and temperatures. Gold concludes that while a good experience, a meal at the restaurant is time-consuming, and her experience is inconclusive as to whether or not this is the best restaurant in the world.

Essays About Food: What is your favorite dish?

Everyone has a favorite food; in your essay, write about a dish you enjoy. You can discuss the recipe’s history by researching where it comes from, the famous chefs who created it, or which restaurants specialize in this dish. Provide your readers with an ingredients list, and describe how each ingredient is used in the recipe. Conclude your essay with a review of your experience recreating this recipe at home, discuss how challenging the recipe is, and if you enjoyed the experience.

Aside from a favorite dish, everyone prefers one type of cuisine. Discuss your favorite cuisine and give examples of typical dishes, preparations for food, and factors that influence your chosen cuisine. For example, you could choose Italian cuisine and discuss pasta, pizza, gelato, and other famous food items typically associated with Italian food.

Many people choose to adopt a vegan diet that consists of only plant-based food. For your essay, you can discuss this diet and explain why some people choose it. Then, research the sustainability of a plant-based diet and if a person can maintain a vegan diet while remaining healthy and energized. Provide as much evidence as possible by conducting interviews, referencing online sources, and including survey data.

Essays About Food: The dangers of fast food

Fast food is a staple part of diets worldwide; children are often raised on salty bites of chicken, fries, and burgers. However, it has been linked to many health complications, including cancer and obesity . Research the dangers of fast food, describe each in your essay, and give examples of how it can affect you mentally and physically.

Is there a memory involving food that you treasure? Perhaps it could be a holiday celebration, a birthday, or a regular day when went to a restaurant. Reflect on this memory, retelling your story in detail, and describe the meal you ate and why you remember it so fondly.

Every country has a rich culture, a big component of which is food. Research the history of food in your native country, writing about common native dishes and ingredients used in cooking. If there are religious influences on your country’s cuisine, note them as well. Share a few of these recipes in your essay for an engaging piece of writing.

A Feast for the Future

Close your eyes and imagine the not too distant future: The Statue of Liberty is up to her knees in water, the streets of lower Manhattan resemble the canals of Venice, and hurricanes arrive in the fall and stay until summer. Now, open your eyes and see the beautiful planet that we will destroy if we do not do something. Now is the time for change. Our future is in our control if we take actions, ranging from small steps, such as not using plastic straws, to large ones, such as reducing fossil fuel consumption and electing leaders who take the problem seriously.

Hosting a dinner party is an extraordinary way to publicize what is at stake. At my potluck, I would serve linguini with clams. The clams would be sautéed in white wine sauce. The pasta tossed with a light coat of butter and topped with freshly shredded parmesan. I choose this meal because it cannot be made if global warming’s patterns persist. Soon enough, the ocean will be too warm to cultivate clams, vineyards will be too sweltering to grow grapes, and wheat fields will dry out, leaving us without pasta.

I think that giving my guests a delicious meal and then breaking the news to them that its ingredients would be unattainable if Earth continues to get hotter is a creative strategy to initiate action. Plus, on the off chance the conversation gets drastically tense, pasta is a relatively difficult food to throw.

In YES! Magazine’s article, “Cooking Stirs the Pot for Social Change,” Korsha Wilson says “…beyond the narrow definition of what cooking is, you can see that cooking is and has always been an act of resistance.” I hope that my dish inspires people to be aware of what’s at stake with increasing greenhouse gas emissions and work toward creating a clean energy future.

My guest list for the potluck would include two groups of people: local farmers, who are directly and personally affected by rising temperatures, increased carbon dioxide, drought, and flooding, and people who either do not believe in human-caused climate change or don’t think it affects anyone. I would invite the farmers or farm owners because their jobs and crops are dependent on the weather. I hope that after hearing a farmer’s perspective, climate-deniers would be awakened by the truth and more receptive to the effort to reverse these catastrophic trends.

Earth is a beautiful planet that provides everything we’ll ever need, but because of our pattern of living—wasteful consumption, fossil fuel burning, and greenhouse gas emissions— our habitat is rapidly deteriorating. Whether you are a farmer, a long-shower-taking teenager, a worker in a pollution-producing factory, or a climate-denier, the future of humankind is in our hands. The choices we make and the actions we take will forever affect planet Earth.

Apple Pie Embrace

It’s 1:47 a.m. Thanksgiving smells fill the kitchen. The sweet aroma of sugar-covered apples and buttery dough swirls into my nostrils. Fragrant orange and rosemary permeate the room and every corner smells like a stroll past the open door of a French bakery. My eleven-year-old eyes water, red with drowsiness, and refocus on the oven timer counting down. Behind me, my mom and aunt chat to no end, fueled by the seemingly self-replenishable coffee pot stashed in the corner. Their hands work fast, mashing potatoes, crumbling cornbread, and covering finished dishes in a thin layer of plastic wrap. The most my tired body can do is sit slouched on the backless wooden footstool. I bask in the heat escaping under the oven door.

As a child, I enjoyed Thanksgiving and the preparations that came with it, but it seemed like more of a bridge between my birthday and Christmas than an actual holiday. Now, it’s a time of year I look forward to, dedicated to family, memories, and, most importantly, food. What I realized as I grew older was that my homemade Thanksgiving apple pie was more than its flaky crust and soft-fruit center. This American food symbolized a rite of passage, my Iraqi family’s ticket to assimilation.

Some argue that by adopting American customs like the apple pie, we lose our culture. I would argue that while American culture influences what my family eats and celebrates, it doesn’t define our character. In my family, we eat Iraqi dishes like mesta and tahini, but we also eat Cinnamon Toast Crunch for breakfast. This doesn’t mean we favor one culture over the other; instead, we create a beautiful blend of the two, adapting traditions to make them our own.

That said, my family has always been more than the “mashed potatoes and turkey” type.

My mom’s family immigrated to the United States in 1976. Upon their arrival, they encountered a deeply divided America. Racism thrived, even after the significant freedoms gained from the Civil Rights Movement a few years before. Here, my family was thrust into a completely unknown world: they didn’t speak the language, they didn’t dress normally, and dinners like riza maraka seemed strange in comparison to the Pop Tarts and Oreos lining grocery store shelves.

If I were to host a dinner party, it would be like Thanksgiving with my Chaldean family. The guests, my extended family, are a diverse people, distinct ingredients in a sweet potato casserole, coming together to create a delicious dish.

In her article “Cooking Stirs the Pot for Social Change,” Korsha Wilson writes, “each ingredient that we use, every technique, every spice tells a story about our access, our privilege, our heritage, and our culture.” Voices around the room will echo off the walls into the late hours of the night while the hot apple pie steams at the table’s center.

We will play concan on the blanketed floor and I’ll try to understand my Toto, who, after forty years, still speaks broken English. I’ll listen to my elders as they tell stories about growing up in Unionville, Michigan, a predominately white town where they always felt like outsiders, stories of racism that I have the privilege not to experience. While snacking on sunflower seeds and salted pistachios, we’ll talk about the news- how thousands of people across the country are protesting for justice among immigrants. No one protested to give my family a voice.

Our Thanksgiving food is more than just sustenance, it is a physical representation of my family ’s blended and ever-changing culture, even after 40 years in the United States. No matter how the food on our plates changes, it will always symbolize our sense of family—immediate and extended—and our unbreakable bond.

Nourishing Change After Tragedy Strikes

In the Jewish community, food is paramount. We often spend our holidays gathered around a table, sharing a meal and reveling in our people’s story. On other sacred days, we fast, focusing instead on reflection, atonement, and forgiveness.

As a child, I delighted in the comfort of matzo ball soup, the sweetness of hamantaschen, and the beauty of braided challah. But as I grew older and more knowledgeable about my faith, I learned that the origins of these foods are not rooted in joy, but in sacrifice.

The matzo of matzo balls was a necessity as the Jewish people did not have time for their bread to rise as they fled slavery in Egypt. The hamantaschen was an homage to the hat of Haman, the villain of the Purim story who plotted the Jewish people’s destruction. The unbaked portion of braided challah was tithed by commandment to the kohen  or priests. Our food is an expression of our history, commemorating both our struggles and our triumphs.

As I write this, only days have passed since eleven Jews were killed at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. These people, intending only to pray and celebrate the Sabbath with their community, were murdered simply for being Jewish. This brutal event, in a temple and city much like my own, is a reminder that anti-Semitism still exists in this country. A reminder that hatred of Jews, of me, my family, and my community, is alive and flourishing in America today. The thought that a difference in religion would make some believe that others do not have the right to exist is frightening and sickening.

This is why, if given the chance, I would sit down the entire Jewish American community at one giant Shabbat table. I’d serve matzo ball soup, pass around loaves of challah, and do my best to offer comfort. We would take time to remember the beautiful souls lost to anti-Semitism this October and the countless others who have been victims of such hatred in the past. I would then ask that we channel all we are feeling—all the fear, confusion, and anger —into the fight.

As suggested in Korsha Wilson’s “Cooking Stirs the Pot for Social Change,” I would urge my guests to direct our passion for justice and the comfort and care provided by the food we are eating into resisting anti-Semitism and hatred of all kinds.

We must use the courage this sustenance provides to create change and honor our people’s suffering and strength. We must remind our neighbors, both Jewish and non-Jewish, that anti-Semitism is alive and well today. We must shout and scream and vote until our elected leaders take this threat to our community seriously. And, we must stand with, support, and listen to other communities that are subjected to vengeful hate today in the same way that many of these groups have supported us in the wake of this tragedy.

This terrible shooting is not the first of its kind, and if conflict and loathing are permitted to grow, I fear it will not be the last. While political change may help, the best way to target this hate is through smaller-scale actions in our own communities.

It is critical that we as a Jewish people take time to congregate and heal together, but it is equally necessary to include those outside the Jewish community to build a powerful crusade against hatred and bigotry. While convening with these individuals, we will work to end the dangerous “otherizing” that plagues our society and seek to understand that we share far more in common than we thought. As disagreements arise during our discussions, we will learn to respect and treat each other with the fairness we each desire. Together, we shall share the comfort, strength, and courage that traditional Jewish foods provide and use them to fuel our revolution.

We are not alone in the fight despite what extremists and anti-semites might like us to believe.  So, like any Jew would do, I invite you to join me at the Shabbat table. First, we will eat. Then, we will get to work.

an essay on my best meal

As a kid, I remember asking my friends jokingly, ”If you were stuck on a deserted island, what single item of food would you bring?” Some of my friends answered practically and said they’d bring water. Others answered comically and said they’d bring snacks like Flamin’ Hot Cheetos or a banana. However, most of my friends answered sentimentally and listed the foods that made them happy. This seems like fun and games, but what happens if the hypothetical changes? Imagine being asked, on the eve of your death, to choose the final meal you will ever eat. What food would you pick? Something practical? Comical? Sentimental?

This situation is the reality for the 2,747 American prisoners who are currently awaiting execution on death row. The grim ritual of “last meals,” when prisoners choose their final meal before execution, can reveal a lot about these individuals and what they valued throughout their lives.

It is difficult for us to imagine someone eating steak, lobster tail, apple pie, and vanilla ice cream one moment and being killed by state-approved lethal injection the next. The prisoner can only hope that the apple pie he requested tastes as good as his mom’s. Surprisingly, many people in prison decline the option to request a special last meal. We often think of food as something that keeps us alive, so is there really any point to eating if someone knows they are going to die?

“Controlling food is a means of controlling power,” said chef Sean Sherman in the YES! Magazine article “Cooking Stirs the Pot for Social Change,” by Korsha Wilson. There are deeper stories that lie behind the final meals of individuals on death row.

I want to bring awareness to the complex and often controversial conditions of this country’s criminal justice system and change the common perception of prisoners as inhuman. To accomplish this, I would host a potluck where I would recreate the last meals of prisoners sentenced to death.

In front of each plate, there would be a place card with the prisoner’s full name, the date of execution, and the method of execution. These meals could range from a plate of fried chicken, peas with butter, apple pie, and a Dr. Pepper, reminiscent of a Sunday dinner at Grandma’s, to a single olive.

Seeing these meals up close, meals that many may eat at their own table or feed to their own kids, would force attendees to face the reality of the death penalty. It will urge my guests to look at these individuals not just as prisoners, assigned a number and a death date, but as people, capable of love and rehabilitation.

This potluck is not only about realizing a prisoner’s humanity, but it is also about recognizing a flawed criminal justice system. Over the years, I have become skeptical of the American judicial system, especially when only seven states have judges who ethnically represent the people they serve. I was shocked when I found out that the officers who killed Michael Brown and Anthony Lamar Smith were exonerated for their actions. How could that be possible when so many teens and adults of color have spent years in prison, some even executed, for crimes they never committed?

Lawmakers, police officers, city officials, and young constituents, along with former prisoners and their families, would be invited to my potluck to start an honest conversation about the role and application of inequality, dehumanization, and racism in the death penalty. Food served at the potluck would represent the humanity of prisoners and push people to acknowledge that many inmates are victims of a racist and corrupt judicial system.

Recognizing these injustices is only the first step towards a more equitable society. The second step would be acting on these injustices to ensure that every voice is heard, even ones separated from us by prison walls. Let’s leave that for the next potluck, where I plan to serve humble pie.

The Empty Seat

“If you aren’t sober, then I don’t want to see you on Christmas.”

Harsh words for my father to hear from his daughter but words he needed to hear. Words I needed him to understand and words he seemed to consider as he fiddled with his wine glass at the head of the table. Our guests, my grandma, and her neighbors remained resolutely silent. They were not about to defend my drunken father–or Charles as I call him–from my anger or my ultimatum.

This was the first dinner we had had together in a year. The last meal we shared ended with Charles slopping his drink all over my birthday presents and my mother explaining heroin addiction to me. So, I wasn’t surprised when Charles threw down some liquid valor before dinner in anticipation of my anger. If he wanted to be welcomed on Christmas, he needed to be sober—or he needed to be gone.

Countless dinners, holidays, and birthdays taught me that my demands for sobriety would fall on deaf ears. But not this time. Charles gave me a gift—a one of a kind, limited edition, absolutely awkward treat. One that I didn’t know how to deal with at all. Charles went home that night, smacked a bright red bow on my father, and hand-delivered him to me on Christmas morning.

He arrived for breakfast freshly showered and looking flustered. He would remember this day for once only because his daughter had scolded him into sobriety. Dad teetered between happiness and shame. Grandma distracted us from Dad’s presence by bringing the piping hot bacon and biscuits from the kitchen to the table, theatrically announcing their arrival. Although these foods were the alleged focus of the meal, the real spotlight shined on the unopened liquor cabinet in my grandma’s kitchen—the cabinet I know Charles was begging Dad to open.

I’ve isolated myself from Charles. My family has too. It means we don’t see Dad, but it’s the best way to avoid confrontation and heartache. Sometimes I find myself wondering what it would be like if we talked with him more or if he still lived nearby. Would he be less inclined to use? If all families with an addict tried to hang on to a relationship with the user, would there be fewer addicts in the world? Christmas breakfast with Dad was followed by Charles whisking him away to Colorado where pot had just been legalized. I haven’t talked to Dad since that Christmas.

As Korsha Wilson stated in her YES! Magazine article, “Cooking Stirs the Pot for Social Change,” “Sometimes what we don’t cook says more than what we do cook.” When it comes to addiction, what isn’t served is more important than what is. In quiet moments, I like to imagine a meal with my family–including Dad. He’d have a spot at the table in my little fantasy. No alcohol would push him out of his chair, the cigarettes would remain seated in his back pocket, and the stench of weed wouldn’t invade the dining room. Fruit salad and gumbo would fill the table—foods that Dad likes. We’d talk about trivial matters in life, like how school is going and what we watched last night on TV.

Dad would feel loved. We would connect. He would feel less alone. At the end of the night, he’d walk me to the door and promise to see me again soon. And I would believe him.

an essay on my best meal

Bittersweet Reunion

I close my eyes and envision a dinner of my wildest dreams. I would invite all of my relatives. Not just my sister who doesn’t ask how I am anymore. Not just my nephews who I’m told are too young to understand me. No, I would gather all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins to introduce them to the me they haven’t met.

For almost two years, I’ve gone by a different name that most of my family refuses to acknowledge. My aunt, a nun of 40 years, told me at a recent birthday dinner that she’d heard of my “nickname.” I didn’t want to start a fight, so I decided not to correct her. Even the ones who’ve adjusted to my name have yet to recognize the bigger issue.

Last year on Facebook, I announced to my friends and family that I am transgender. No one in my family has talked to me about it, but they have plenty to say to my parents. I feel as if this is about my parents more than me—that they’ve made some big parenting mistake. Maybe if I invited everyone to dinner and opened up a discussion, they would voice their concerns to me instead of my parents.

I would serve two different meals of comfort food to remind my family of our good times. For my dad’s family, I would cook heavily salted breakfast food, the kind my grandpa used to enjoy. He took all of his kids to IHOP every Sunday and ordered the least healthy option he could find, usually some combination of an overcooked omelet and a loaded Classic Burger. For my mom’s family, I would buy shakes and burgers from Hardee’s. In my grandma’s final weeks, she let aluminum tins of sympathy meals pile up on her dining table while she made my uncle take her to Hardee’s every day.

In her article on cooking and activism, food writer Korsha Wilson writes, “Everyone puts down their guard over a good meal, and in that space, change is possible.” Hopefully the same will apply to my guests.

When I first thought of this idea, my mind rushed to the endless negative possibilities. My nun-aunt and my two non-nun aunts who live like nuns would whip out their Bibles before I even finished my first sentence. My very liberal, state representative cousin would say how proud she is of the guy I’m becoming, but this would trigger my aunts to accuse her of corrupting my mind. My sister, who has never spoken to me about my genderidentity, would cover her children’s ears and rush them out of the house. My Great-Depression-raised grandparents would roll over in their graves, mumbling about how kids have it easy nowadays.

After mentally mapping out every imaginable terrible outcome this dinner could have, I realized a conversation is unavoidable if I want my family to accept who I am. I long to restore the deep connection I used to have with them. Though I often think these former relationships are out of reach, I won’t know until I try to repair them. For a year and a half, I’ve relied on Facebook and my parents to relay messages about my identity, but I need to tell my own story.

At first, I thought Korsha Wilson’s idea of a cooked meal leading the way to social change was too optimistic, but now I understand that I need to think more like her. Maybe, just maybe, my family could all gather around a table, enjoy some overpriced shakes, and be as close as we were when I was a little girl.

 Literary Gems

We received many outstanding essays for the Fall 2018 Writing Competition. Though not every participant can win the contest, we’d like to share some excerpts that caught our eye.

Thinking of the main staple of the dish—potatoes, the starchy vegetable that provides sustenance for people around the globe. The onion, the layers of sorrow and joy—a base for this dish served during the holidays.  The oil, symbolic of hope and perseverance. All of these elements come together to form this delicious oval pancake permeating with possibilities. I wonder about future possibilities as I flip the latkes.

The egg is a treasure. It is a fragile heart of gold that once broken, flows over the blemishless surface of the egg white in dandelion colored streams, like ribbon unraveling from its spool.

If I were to bring one food to a potluck to create social change by addressing anti-Semitism, I would bring gefilte fish because it is different from other fish, just like the Jews are different from other people.  It looks more like a matzo ball than fish, smells extraordinarily fishy, and tastes like sweet brine with the consistency of a crab cake.

—Noah Glassman, Ethical Culture Fieldston School,  Bronx, New York

I would not only be serving them something to digest, I would serve them a one-of-a-kind taste of the past, a taste of fear that is felt in the souls of those whose home and land were taken away, a taste of ancestral power that still lives upon us, and a taste of the voices that want to be heard and that want the suffering of the Natives to end.

—Citlalic Anima Guevara, Wichita North High School, Wichita, Kansas

It’s the one thing that your parents make sure you have because they didn’t.  Food is what your mother gives you as she lies, telling you she already ate. It’s something not everybody is fortunate to have and it’s also what we throw away without hesitation.  Food is a blessing to me, but what is it to you?

—Mohamed Omar, Kirkwood High School, Kirkwood, Missouri

Filleted and fried humphead wrasse, mangrove crab with coconut milk, pounded taro, a whole roast pig, and caramelized nuts—cuisines that will not be simplified to just “food.” Because what we eat is the diligence and pride of our people—a culture that has survived and continues to thrive.

—Mayumi Remengesau, University of San Francisco, San Francisco, California

Some people automatically think I’m kosher or ask me to say prayers in Hebrew.  However, guess what? I don’t know many prayers and I eat bacon.

—Hannah Reing, Ethical Culture Fieldston School, The Bronx, New York

Everything was placed before me. Rolling up my sleeves I started cracking eggs, mixing flour, and sampling some chocolate chips, because you can never be too sure. Three separate bowls. All different sizes. Carefully, I tipped the smallest, and the medium-sized bowls into the biggest. Next, I plugged in my hand-held mixer and flicked on the switch. The beaters whirl to life. I lowered it into the bowl and witnessed the creation of something magnificent. Cookie dough.

—Cassandra Amaya, Owen Goodnight Middle School, San Marcos, Texas

Biscuits and bisexuality are both things that are in my life…My grandmother’s biscuits are the best: the good old classic Southern biscuits, crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Except it is mostly Southern people who don’t accept me.

We zest the bright yellow lemons and the peels of flavor fall lightly into the batter.  To make frosting, we keep adding more and more powdered sugar until it looks like fluffy clouds with raspberry seed rain.

—Jane Minus, Ethical Culture Fieldston School, Bronx, New York

Tamales for my grandma, I can still remember her skillfully spreading the perfect layer of masa on every corn husk, looking at me pitifully as my young hands fumbled with the corn wrapper, always too thick or too thin.

—Brenna Eliaz, San Marcos High School, San Marcos, Texas

Just like fry bread, MRE’s (Meals Ready to Eat) remind New Orleanians and others affected by disasters of the devastation throughout our city and the little amount of help we got afterward.

I would bring cream corn and buckeyes and have a big debate on whether marijuana should be illegal or not.

We would finish the meal off with a delicious apple strudel, topped with schlag, schlag, schlag, more schlag, and a cherry, and finally…more schlag (in case you were wondering, schlag is like whipped cream, but 10 times better because it is heavier and sweeter).

Writing A Perfect Essay About Favorite Food

Jessica Nita

Table of Contents

an essay on my best meal

Everyone is concerned with matters of nutrition, so this topic is of importance for absolutely anyone reading it. We present you a manual on food essay writing with an outline and advice for the development (and for a balanced diet).

The basic structure of a ‘my favorite food’ essay

Not all students know the importance of healthy eating and a balanced diet. Avoiding bad nutrition and knowing the nutritional principles is important for our health; it helps to avoid food problems.

In the world of young people, this awareness is sometimes lacking, for this reason, a teacher could give you the assignment to write an argumentative essay about food.

In this article, you will find great tips on how to organize your writing, how to structure your essay, and what sources to quote to get a better grade.

How to draw up a topic?

Before starting your argumentative text on food, make an outlay. This tool will help you identify what to talk about in your nutrition topic.

Read the outline carefully and answer: what aspects of the diet science prompt you to argue?

This question is essential to understand what to write about when writing about the relationship between young people and their favorite/staple food.

Introduction

In the first part of your argumentative text on nutrition, you need to talk about the importance of food for health. What distinguishes a balanced diet from poor nutrition? Introduce the problem by pointing out that it is not right to eat only what you like…

In the second part of your favorite food essay writing, focus on the relationship between young people and food. What influences it? What do kids usually know about nutrition?

You can make real references to the diets you have heard of, and that young people follow. It then illustrates what constitutes a balanced diet and, if the outline requires it, what are the essential nutrients in a diet.

an essay on my best meal

What would be the best outline?

My Favorite Food essay: introduction

Food is not only sustenance, but it is also a great part of our culture. Thanks to the energy and the different nutrients that our body takes through food, we can perform all the actions of our day: not only physical efforts but also mental ones work thanks to the calories we introduce.

This fact is even more important for boys, especially during the more delicate phases of their growth, where their development must be accompanied by special nutrition. It is, therefore, necessary to know what distinguishes a balanced diet from an unbalanced one.

To get a higher rating, you can add other famous quotes related to nutrition in general. For instance, you may quote François de La Rochefoucauld’s famous wit’s oeuvre, “To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art.”

Essay on my favorite food: the main body

An incorrect diet, in the world of young people, is often linked to the type and quality of the food they eat. Some do not have time to cook, others are not able to, while the rest have to eat out due to force majeure and end up having their meals at fast-food restaurants. It is not wrong to eat only what you want, food should be appreciated, or there would be no taste in eating, the important thing is that your meals are healthy dishes concerning the nutritional principles they bring.

Limiting the concept of healthy to fruit and vegetables, no matter how indispensable, is perhaps the reason why poor nutrition is a widespread problem among young people. Carbohydrates, particularly pasta and rice, are the nutrients that give us the most energy and therefore we need them to play sports and endure the most demanding school days. Finally, the proteins we take with meat or legumes play an indispensable role in the formation of muscles.

Since restaurants are adequately equipped to meet the ethical, physical (allergy) and economic needs of everyone, there should be no excuse of not making changes towards healthier diet plans. In many places today you can eat healthy without sacrificing taste, especially in countries where food has a culture of its own like Italy, France or certain parts of the U.S. like New Orleans. But this is not enough, it is necessary to educate children to have a correct diet to avoid that their relationship with food is balanced. In fact, young people are the most affected by food-related problems because their age is often characterized by difficulties that can turn into eating disorders.

Bonus tips for better grades: If the outline requires it and you have sufficient knowledge on the subject, in light of the considerations made, of how a diet should be set to be correct.

Essay on nutrition: conclusion

The philosopher Feuerbach maintained that “we are what we eat” and in a sense, it is so given that it is scientifically proven that the more balanced a diet is in terms of macro-nutrients the healthier an individual is. Feeding children is no exception to this rule, so it must be explained to them what it means to eat properly. For this reason, it is necessary to pay more attention to the relationship between food and the young.

Even food, in fact, can be a constructive way to expand your educational horizons: learning to cook and propose new recipes to friends, going out to lunch in new places and enjoying typical dishes of different traditions are apparently insignificant experiences, but sometimes able to give flavor to our life especially if shared.

Bonus tips for better grades: A brief mentioning of the relationship between food and culture and how varied it is in the world is what will ensure you a solid A-plus.

Most common mistakes when writing an essay

The 5 classic errors to avoid when writing an essay

  • Confuse the subject of an essay with an exercise of pure imagination, free and without constraint.
  • Underestimate the difficulty of writing. An essay often seems more pleasant than a dissertation or a commentary of text. But it is far from easy.
  • Rush . You have to read the subject two or more times and highlight the key terms.
  • Wander off-topic . You have to have a good method to avoid off-topic faux pas. Writing an essay is a methodical and rigorous exercise.
  • Breaking the style . To make a good assignment of your essay, one must have a style of writing, vocabulary, and especially good ideas. It’s about writing as if you were a writer. It is not an easy task.

How to avoid mistakes?

How to not…

…sound ungrounded in your essay

Read as much as you can on the subject, and provide evidential backup for everything that you write – save for your conclusions.

…underestimate the difficulty of writing

An essay gives a literary experience of writing, it is, therefore, important to understand, to read, to build, and to interpret.

…take too little time for the assignment

Make sure you collect and organize your ideas before you put them in writing

It is important to stay out of redundancy. Brevity is the soul of wit; focus on summing up the facts relevant for your topic rather than throwing in things that you find easier to write about or those who just are at the top of your mind.

…breach the style

Be wary of the use of colloquial style in your writing, as well as other stylistic errors. The sense of good academic style can be developed as you read works of others. When in doubt, consult a specialist. The professional essay writer will help you improve your writing style and correct your other errors.

Bottom line

The topic of a favorite food can be summed up with one precise quote

“Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.”

Without doubt, there are only too many things to say on the topic; your task is to pick the ones that reflect your own philosophy, organize them in a logical way, give valid examples and provide scientific evidence, and draw essential conclusions.

Essay on My Favourite Food 500+ Words

Food holds a special place in our hearts, and when it comes to our favorite food, it becomes a source of comfort, joy, and culinary delight. In this essay, we will explore the reasons why my favorite food holds a cherished spot in my heart, examining the flavors, memories, and cultural significance that make it so special.

The Flavors That Dance

The first reason my favorite food is so dear to me is the exquisite combination of flavors it offers. Each bite is a symphony of taste sensations, from sweet and savory to tangy and spicy. The balance of these flavors creates a culinary masterpiece that tantalizes my taste buds and leaves me craving for more. According to culinary experts, the harmony of flavors is essential for making a dish memorable.

A Taste of Childhood

My favorite food is more than just a meal; it’s a taste of my childhood. It reminds me of family gatherings, celebrations, and cozy dinners at home. The familiar aroma and taste transport me back to simpler times, evoking a sense of nostalgia and warmth. Food psychologists suggest that our favorite foods often have strong emotional connections tied to our past.

Cultural Significance

Beyond its deliciousness, my favorite food also holds cultural significance. It represents the culinary heritage of my family and community. It’s a dish that has been passed down through generations, carrying with it the traditions and flavors of my cultural background. Food anthropologists argue that food is a cultural expression, reflecting the history and identity of a group of people.

A Feast for the Senses

My favorite food is not just about taste; it’s a feast for all the senses. The vibrant colors, enticing textures, and pleasing presentation make it a visual delight. The sound of sizzling, the aroma wafting through the air, and the anticipation of that first bite engage all my senses, making the experience truly magical. According to sensory experts, our enjoyment of food is deeply tied to our sensory perceptions.

The Joy of Sharing

One of the beautiful aspects of my favorite food is that it’s often shared with loved ones. Whether it’s a family dinner, a festive occasion, or a simple gathering of friends, this food brings people together. Sharing a meal is not just about nourishment but also about building connections and creating lasting memories. Sociologists emphasize the social significance of shared meals in fostering relationships.

A Global Journey

While my favorite food holds a special place in my heart, it has also taken me on a global journey of culinary exploration. It has piqued my curiosity about different cuisines and inspired me to try new dishes from around the world. Exploring diverse flavors and culinary traditions has broadened my palate and enriched my appreciation for food. Food enthusiasts argue that trying new foods is a gateway to cultural understanding.

A Comforting Companion

In times of stress or sadness, my favorite food has been a comforting companion. Its familiar taste provides solace and a sense of reassurance. Studies in psychology suggest that comfort foods have a soothing effect on our emotions, offering a sense of security and emotional relief during difficult moments.

It brings people together, encourages culinary exploration, and offers comfort in times of need. It’s a reminder of the power of food to nourish not only our bodies but also our souls. Essay on My Favourite Food

Food is not just a means of sustenance but a gateway to the world’s myriad cultures, traditions, and histories. Among the plethora of delicious dishes that grace our tables, there is always that one special food that tugs at our heartstrings, evoking memories, emotions, and a sense of comfort. For me, that distinguished honor goes to pizza – a simple yet profound dish that encapsulates the essence of joy in every bite. This essay delves into the reasons behind my fondness for pizza, exploring its history, versatility, cultural significance, and the personal memories it evokes.

The Historical Tapestry of Pizza

Pizza, as we know it today, has its roots in the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece, and Rome, where flatbreads were seasoned with various toppings. However, the modern incarnation of pizza with tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings originated in Naples, Italy, in the late 18th century. It was initially considered a dish for the poor, sold in the streets and not thought to be a kitchen recipe for a long time. The transformation of pizza from a humble street food to a global phenomenon is a testament to its universal appeal and adaptability. The story of pizza is not just culinary history but a narrative of migration, innovation, and cultural exchange.

The Quintessence of Versatility

One of the most compelling attributes of pizza is its versatility. The basic foundation of dough, sauce, and cheese serves as a canvas for infinite creativity. From the classic Margherita, adorned with tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil, representing the Italian flag’s colors, to the more adventurous varieties incorporating ingredients from different cuisines around the world, pizza exemplifies culinary diversity. This adaptability means that pizza can cater to a wide range of palates and dietary preferences, making it a universal favorite.

A Mosaic of Flavors and Textures

The allure of pizza also lies in its amalgamation of flavors and textures. The crispy yet tender crust, rich and tangy tomato sauce, and gooey cheese create a symphony of taste that is both comforting and exhilarating. Each bite offers a balance of sweetness, acidity, and saltiness, enhanced by the choice of toppings. Whether it’s the spicy kick of pepperoni, the earthiness of mushrooms, or the freshness of bell peppers, the toppings add layers of flavor that make every pizza unique and personal.

Cultural Significance and Global Appeal

Pizza is not just food; it’s a cultural phenomenon that transcends geographical boundaries. It reflects the essence of Italian culinary tradition, emphasizing quality ingredients, simplicity, and the joy of sharing. However, as pizza has traveled across continents, it has been reinterpreted to suit local tastes, ingredients, and cultural preferences, showcasing the dynamic nature of food. From the deep-dish pizza of Chicago to the seafood-topped varieties in Japan, pizza embodies the concept of global cuisine while retaining its identity.

Personal Memories and Moments

Beyond its historical roots, versatility, and cultural significance, my love for pizza is deeply personal. Pizza is intertwined with memories of family gatherings, celebrations, and moments of joy. It’s the comfort food I turn to on a rainy day, the centerpiece of movie nights, and the culinary tradition I share with friends from different parts of the world. Each pizza I enjoy is a reminder of past experiences and the people with whom I’ve shared those meals, making it more than just food but a vessel of memories.

Nutritional Balance and Considerations

While pizza is often categorized as fast food, its nutritional value cannot be overlooked. A well-crafted pizza can provide a balanced meal, encompassing carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and a variety of vitamins and minerals from the toppings. Choosing whole wheat crust, fresh vegetables, and lean meats can transform pizza into a healthier dining option. The key lies in the quality of ingredients and moderation, highlighting pizza’s potential as part of a balanced diet.

The Joy of Making Pizza

Making pizza at home is an adventure in itself, offering an opportunity to experiment with flavors and engage in the culinary process. The act of kneading the dough, spreading the sauce, layering the cheese, and selecting the toppings is not just about preparing a meal but about expressing creativity and sharing love through food. Homemade pizza nights have become a cherished tradition in my family, where each member gets to customize their pizza, leading to interesting combinations and a sense of accomplishment in creating something delicious and personal.

In conclusion, my favourite food, pizza, is much more than a dish; it’s a celebration of history, culture, and personal memories. Its universal appeal lies in its simplicity, versatility, and the joy it brings to people across the globe. Pizza embodies the idea that food is not just nourishment but a medium for connection, creativity, and cultural expression. Each slice of pizza is a reminder of the beauty of diversity and the power of food to bring us together, making it a true culinary treasure. Whether enjoyed in a cozy Italian trattoria, a bustling city street, or the comfort of home, pizza continues to capture hearts and palates, affirming its place as not just my favourite food but a global favorite.

Healthy food is essential to maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. First and foremost, healthy food is food that is nutritious and good for the body. This means that it provides the body with the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients it needs to function properly. Healthy food can come in many forms, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Healthy food is important for maintaining a healthy body and mind. It provides the nutrients and energy the body needs to function properly and can help to prevent a wide range of health problems. So, if you want to feel your best, be sure to make healthy food a priority in your life.

200 Words Essay On Healthy Food

Healthy food is not just about what you eat – it’s also about how you eat it. For example, eating fresh, whole foods that are prepared at home with love and care is generally considered to be healthier than eating processed, pre-packaged foods that are high in salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats. Additionally, eating in moderation and avoiding excessive portion sizes is key to maintaining a healthy diet.

There are many reasons to eat healthy food, but the most obvious one is that it can help to prevent a wide range of health problems. Eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods can help to lower your risk of heart disease, stroke, obesity, and other chronic conditions. Additionally, healthy food can help to boost your immune system, giving your body the tools it needs to fight off illness and infection. But the benefits of healthy food go beyond just physical health. Eating well can also have a profound impact on your mental and emotional well-being. A healthy diet can help to reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood, and increase energy levels. It can also help to improve cognitive function and memory, making it easier to focus and concentrate.

500 Words Essay On Healthy Food

Healthy food is an essential aspect of a healthy lifestyle. It is not only crucial for maintaining physical health, but it can also have a significant impact on our mental and emotional well-being. Eating a balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can help us feel energised, focused, and happy. But for many people, eating healthy can be a challenge. In a world where fast food and processed snacks are readily available and often more convenient than cooking a meal from scratch, it can be tempting to choose unhealthy options. And with busy schedules and hectic lives, it can be difficult to find the time and energy to plan and prepare healthy meals.

However, the benefits of eating healthy far outweigh the challenges. Not only can it help us maintain a healthy weight and reduce our risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, but it can also improve our mood, energy levels, and overall quality of life.

My Experience

As I sat down at my desk with a bag of chips and a soda for lunch again, I realised that I had been making unhealthy food choices all week. I had been so busy with work and other obligations that I hadn't taken the time to plan and prepare healthy meals. I decided then and there to make a change. I started by making a grocery list of nutritious, whole foods and meal planning for the week ahead. I also made a commitment to myself to cook at home more often instead of relying on takeout or fast food. It wasn't easy at first, but over time, I started to notice a difference in my energy levels and overall mood. I felt better physically and mentally, and I was able to maintain a healthy weight. Making healthy food choices became a priority for me, and I am now reaping the numerous benefits of a nutritious diet.

One of the key components of a healthy diet is variety. Eating a diverse range of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can provide our bodies with the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals we need to function at our best. It's important to try to incorporate a rainbow of colours into our diets, as each colour group represents different nutrients and health benefits. For example, orange and yellow fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamin C and beta-carotene, which can support healthy skin and eyesight. Green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale are packed with antioxidants and can help support a healthy immune system. And blue and purple fruits and vegetables, like blueberries and eggplants, are high in flavonoids and can help support brain health and cognitive function.

In addition to eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, it's also important to include whole grains in our diets. Whole grains, like quinoa, brown rice, and oatmeal, are a great source of fibre, which can help keep us feeling full and satisfied. They can also help regulate our blood sugar levels, which can keep our energy levels steady and prevent unhealthy cravings.

Are you wondering how to write a descriptive essay about food? We've got the answer for you!

Here are some tips to help you create a stunning descriptive essay about food that will make readers savor every word:

Tip 1: Choose An Interesting and Appetizing Topic

Make sure your topic is something that people can relate to. For instance, you can write an essay on your favorite food, or describe different kinds of foods.

You can also write about a cultural food experience or discuss an unusual ingredient. Whatever topic you choose, try to make it interesting and engaging.

Tip 2: Use Vivid Language

When writing a descriptive essay on food, use adjectives, metaphors, and similes to make the description come alive. Try describing the texture, smell, flavor, and presentation of the food in detail.

It's also important to incorporate sensory words like “tangy”, “savory” or “sweet.” Use descriptive language to evoke the senses to create an image that readers can visualize and relish.

Tip 3: Include Personal Anecdotes

If you have an interesting anecdote or experience related to your topic, include it in your essay. Readers will be more engaged if they can connect to your narrative.

Including a personal story in your essay can make it more engaging and memorable. Talk about how the food made you feel, why it was special to you, or any sensory experiences associated with it.

Tip 4: Do Some Research

Doing some research about your topic can help you create a well-rounded essay. Look up recipes, food facts, and regional influences to add more detail and depth to your writing.

Research can also help you understand the history behind certain dishes, ingredients, and cultures. This will provide interesting facts for readers that they may have not known about before.

Tip 5: Structure Your Essay

Make sure to organize your essay in a way that makes sense and flows smoothly. You can use a descriptive essay outline for this. Set up the introduction by introducing the topic and explaining why it’s important or interesting.

Then, move into the body of the essay, which should include vivid descriptions of all aspects of food. Finish with a conclusion that ties everything together.

Tip 6: Be Precise and Concise

When writing a descriptive essay about food, it’s important to be as precise and concise as possible. Choose your words carefully and eliminate any unnecessary details that could distract from the main idea.

How To Write Essay About My Favorite Food

How to write an essay about my favorite food

  • How to start
  • Main body writing
  • Final checklist

People mostly write descriptive essays about other people, events, animals, or memories. Rarely do essay writing companies offer guidance on how to write descriptive essays about favorite foods. This article will take students and writers step by step on writing. When students are given the task of writing a description of their favorite food, they get a platform to paint words and create a vivid experience for readers. Students should, therefore, strive to use vivid observations and descriptions rather than persuasive figures or facts. This genre of essay writing gives students the artistic freedom of observing and describing what they see, feel, taste, smell, and hear.

How to start a descriptive essay on favorite food?

When writing this type of essay, it is important to understand that describing the favorite food is the core issue, writers and students should, therefore, feel free to talk about various aspects of their favorite food such as how the food smells or tastes. Before you start describing your favorite dish, it very imperative that you highlight some ideas or aspects of the dish you are about to describe. For instance, if a student chooses to describe pizza. A student might start by jotting down some words such as crust, sauce, pepperoni, spices, sausage, cheese, etc. once the student is done listing some ideas, he or she can start compiling descriptions for each.

The main body writing

When writing an essay about your favorite food, it is important you focus on the maxim: show does not tell. Descriptive essays need to be loaded with words showing the writer’s feelings and emotions. This is because readers will easily experience what is being described to them.

Consider these two sentences:

  • I served a plate of stew potatoes.
  • I dipped the serving silver spoon into the already steaming bowl of stew potatoes. The spoon swiftly penetrated through the fluffy mound of potatoes. As I lifted the spoon and poured a pile of potatoes onto my plate, I could smell the strong aroma of garlic, spices, and herbs that made my mouth salivate in anticipation.

The first example is telling us how you served a plate of potatoes.

The second example, on the other hand, shows readers how you served a plate of stew potatoes.

Applying senses

Writers need to use descriptive words that bring a clear, vivid picture of the food they are describing. The best way a writer or a student can achieve this is by applying senses. Readers need to be engaged through their imagination. Words such as warm, soft texture, cold, hot, etc. can spice up your description and bring a vivid picture of what you are describing . One mistake that students make is describing the physical characteristics of their favorite dish. Students need to focus more on feelings towards their favorite food. Describing feelings and emotions enables readers to easily identify and connect with your emotions towards a particular food. Explaining how things feel, look, sound, or smell taps into the emotional reservoir of the readers, enabling you to achieve a deep descriptive potential. Make the preparation more enjoyable by including emotional issues. Talk about the aroma at some point, talk about its physical appearance, and talk about how one feels when preparing the meal.  This unique description will go a long way in creating a positive picture for the readers, making them anticipate making or eating the food you are describing.

Organization of your descriptive essay

When writing a descriptive essay, it is very easy for many writers to find themselves in an incoherent rambling of senses and emotions. Organization is very crucial in descriptive writing . Students should strive to present their descriptions in a logical and organized manner if they want their readers to have a deep picture of the food they are trying to describe. If readers do not understand what you are describing, the chances are that the description you have provided is a random, confusing, and jumbled mess. Readers need to have a multifaceted understanding and visualization of the food being described.

Revising your favorite food descriptive essay

After drafting your descriptive essay about favorite foods, it is imperative you apply the checklist below.

  • Does the essay provide enough description and details that enable readers to gain a clear picture of the food you are describing?
  • Are there minor, but essential details about the dish that you might have left out?
  • Have I used words that show my emotions in my descriptive essay about my favorite food?
  • Does the descriptive essay have unnecessary details and descriptions?
  • Is the descriptive essay on my favorite food organized in the most logical and efficient manner?

To conclude, the primary objective is to generate a profound sense of appreciation and familiarity in the readers. If you feel that the readers will walk away after reading the descriptive essay craving for the very food described, embrace yourself, you have mastered the skill of writing an effective descriptive essay on your favorite food.

I have a great liking for roasted chicken prepared by my mother. Chicken is rich in protein. This is one of the reasons I like roasted chicken the most. Anytime my mother prepares this delicacy, the whole house will be filled with pleasant aroma. My mother is the best cook in the world! She takes her time while preparing meals.

The recipe for roasted chicken is also very unique. To prepare it, necessary ingredients are not to be excluded. Every ingredient required must be in place. The flesh of the chicken must be clean, lean and soft and coated with sauce and spices. Then, it has to be roasted in the oven for thirty –five minutes. It must be well cooked. The roasted chicken should be served with black sauce. It is a meal that is irresistible and never fails to satisfy my hunger.

What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?

Graphic: Nicole Antonuccio

The Takeout proposed a straight-forward question to our staff and our colleagues at The A.V. Club: What’s the best meal you’ve ever had? And after you’ve read our responses, please let us know about your best meal in the comment section below.

Harry And Bud’s

Photo: William Hughes

Somewhere near downtown Terre Haute, Indiana, there’s a small concrete building with no sign on the outside (except the graffiti scrawled across its thick frosted windows). Inside there’s an older, hippie-ish guy named Jeff, probably listening to jazz or reading the newspaper on one of the place’s scratched Formica tables. If you enter his restaurant (by appointment only, please), he will ask you if you want sparkling or still water, probe you with a few quick questions (“How do you feel about shrimp?”), and then go back into his tiny kitchen to cook you the best five-course European dinner you’ve ever tasted. Harry And Bud’s (as the place is called) is one of my hometown’s weirdest secrets, an eccentric, single-table gourmet dining experience hidden in the middle of a very normal Indiana town. Jeff himself is a little prickly (he once told me he screens people making reservations, telling them his schedule is full if he hears a crying baby that might be brought in to disturb his peace) but also very kind. And the food is amazing: homemade bread, ideally grilled pork, veggie-filled crepes, handmade pasta, delicate chocolate mousse, and all of it spiced and cooked to perfection. But equal to the food—which comes in such massive quantities and variety that you’ll inevitably leave weighed down with five or six to-go boxes—is the sense of mystery and ritual surrounding the place. I once asked him, “Why are you doing this in Terre Haute?” Jeff just shrugged. “It’s where I live.” [ William Hughes ]

If you’ve been lucky enough to eat some truly memorable, unimpeachably delicious food, then determining the best meal ever comes down to context: who you’re with, why you’re there, how much butter was involved in preparing the plate in front of you. Based on those criteria, I’d say the best meal of my life was dinner at Allard , in Paris. I was there in 2013 with my best, long-time friend Caitlin, who lives in a different city across the U.S. from me. I think we talked and ate for more than three hours. I’d missed her so much, and we had the chance to catch up over all my favorite, indulgent French food: escargots in their shells, incredibly crusty baguettes, pâté, and a beautiful bottle of Bordeaux. The bistro was cramped, dimly lit, noisy, and aloofly French. I wouldn’t have changed a thing. [ Kate Bernot ]

Thomas Keller’s fried chicken

As I’ve spent the last decade professionally eating, this is an impossible question. The biggest problem when you’re a restaurant critic is that you view dining out as work, and much of its inherent joys—eating for pleasure, the relaxed conversations, the ability to turn your mind off—is pushed aside. You end up ordering twice as much food, you’re taking notes on your phone every 30 seconds (and looking like an asshole), and your brain is set to critical mode, and it’s mentally taxing. At the height of my job as a reviewer, I was eating at restaurants four times a week, and few of those meals were enjoyable in the “let’s dine out on a Saturday night” sense. All of which is to say the best meals were the ones cooked at home. For one New Year’s Eve, my wife and I followed a Thomas Keller recipe for fried chicken that required 14 hours to brine and another few hours to prepare. Perhaps it was the anticipation from the time invested, but the ability to cook and eat purely for our edification—and the fact that the fried chicken turned out stunningly delicious—made it the one meal that’s most stuck in my mind. [ Kevin Pang ]

Giordano’s deep-dish pizza

Runners have an intense relationship with food. There’s the obsessive carb loading before races, consisting of endless plates of pasta; the precious morning-of conversations in which food is referred to only as “energy,” during which vets tuck little bags of walnuts and hyper-nutritious gruel into their Batman-like utility belts; and then, of course, there is the post-race bacchanal, during which all bets are off. It is standard to be showered with bananas and pretzels and various branded sports drinks and chocolate milk and beer after you cross the finish line, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. I once ran a chocolate-themed race in which, after five miles of jogging, I was handed a sombrero hat full of melted chocolate along with dippable chocolate cookies, chocolate-covered fruit, supplemental pieces of chocolate, and so on. It’s a weird cultural thing, where running begets eating, which begets running, an endless cycle of extremely purposeful consumption that looks a little strange from the outside.

That being said: When you’re in that little loop, it all makes perfect sense, and in the right context that post-race meal is a full-body experience. After I ran my first marathon, I hobbled home on my freshly shattered knees, took an ice bath, and then ate the lion’s share of a large pepperoni and mushroom deep-dish pizza from Giordano’s . It was methodical, exhausted, biological, and passionate consumption. I didn’t even talk; I hate-watched the (ugh) third Hobbit movie with my girlfriend and fell asleep on the futon, after which I woke up and finished the pie. No pizza has ever tasted better to anyone. [ Clayton Purdom ]

Minnehaha Falls picnic

Shortly after I moved to Minneapolis, my wife and I went on an unexpectedly long bike ride that culminated at the beautiful Minnehaha Falls. We were famished, and there was no restaurant in sight. Fortunately, a friendly passerby (probably a god in disguise) told us about a grocery store just over the river. Walking through the doors of that upscale grocery store was like alighting on Xanadu itself, and we took to the shelves with Augustus Gloop-like abandon. We returned to the falls with a spicy sopressata, some meaty kalamata olives, a nice crusty baguette, fresh mozzarella di bufala, a bottle of decent wine, and some premade grocery store sushi and trail mix with M&M’s in it just for the sheer pleasure of excess. We had no utensils or cups, so I was ripping off hanks of salami with my teeth between swigs of mid-shelf Malbec straight from the bottle while we sat in honest-to-god bucolic splendor on a sun-dappled hill overlooking a clear, still pool at the base of the waterfall. I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy some amazing meals all over the world, but that beautiful combination of providence, location, and actual hunger made this the meal my thoughts return to most often. [ Nick Wanserski ]

Image for article titled What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?

This is a tough one for me, because I love to eat, and I love nice restaurants. I’m not lavish in many ways, but I have no compunction about dropping a couple hundred bucks on an amazing meal. (Wanna watch me eat? Watch our video series, The Hi-Lo Food Show !) It’s hard for me to pinpoint one, so maybe I’ll cheat and say that memories of various meals at Chicago’s Schwa over the years have combined into one amazing meal. It’s a tiny place whose storefront looks almost abandoned. There are no servers, per se, just the chefs who bring out their amazing creations and explain them. They are frequently blasting metal and hip-hop while you dine. But the food is incredibly elegant, playful, and most importantly delicious. It’s a tasting menu that changes frequently, so if you go once a year (should you be lucky/patient enough to get a reservation), you’ll have an entirely different experience, except for a single quail-egg raviolo that’s slurped in one incredible bite. Sorry to get crass, but David Cross and Brian Posehn ate there once before one of our secret “redacted” comedy shows, and one of them made the joke that the dish tasted like the, um, ejaculate of an angel. [ Josh Modell ]

A bagel and cappuccino

Image for article titled What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?

Like Josh, I also like to eat fancy, and I’ve also been to a lot of fine, fine restaurants—many of them with Josh, several of them (like the David Cross/Brian Posehn meal he mentions) in entertaining and esteemed company. While I’ve eaten at some incredible restaurants all over the world like Schwa, Alinea, Next, Manresa (that one was with Josh and Eric Wareheim!), and Compére Lapin, etc., and eaten my weight in Franklin Barbecue and Hot Doug’s, I’m reminded of this quote from Glengarry Glen Ross : “Great meals fade in reflection. Everything else gains. You know why? ’Cause it’s only food. This shit we put on us keeps us going. It’s only food.” Because the thing is, I mostly remember everything about these places but the actual dishes. That’s why I think the best “meal” I’ve ever had was a bagel and cappuccino that I picked up from some random New York deli in 2001, which I ate in my friend’s car while he drove me up to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (where he was an adjunct). I was incredibly, laughably broke at the time, but I’d still managed to scrape together enough to fly to the city to see my favorite band, The Fall, play its first U.S. show in years—and see my friend, of course!—a mere month after 9/11, goaded to action by the anxiety we all felt right then that death could arrive any minute, so we’d better get to living. Eating that bagel while watching the sun set over the ravaged Manhattan skyline, I just felt so happy to be there, so in awe that I’d actually made the effort to do something I really wanted to do, that a thoroughly ordinary roll tasted transcendent, and it’s permanently etched in my sense memory. I haven’t had a bagel that good since (and I’ve had some pretty fancy bagels). [ Sean O’Neal ]

Ristorante La Giostra, Florence

My husband and I had a low-key wedding so we could go to Italy for our honeymoon, where we took a gastronomical tour across the country, starting in Rome and ending up in Venice. Pretty much every meal I had there is in the running for the best ever, but one stands out significantly. It was in Florence at La Giostra , a recommendation from our wonderful vineyard guide in Tuscany. She said it was helmed by an actual Habsburg prince turned incredible chef, and to this day I am grateful she insisted we visit it. Prosecco freely flowed from the moment we entered the cramped, cozy quarters (which was a bit hard to find in Florence after dark), and I impulsively went for the pear and pecorino ravioli, to this day the greatest meal I’ve ever had. After all the rich gnocchi and deep tomato-based pastas I had been devouring since Rome, this relatively light dish offered an intoxicating juxtaposition between the sweet pear and the savory cheese that I’ve never been able to find since. After we told the waiter that we were on our honeymoon, the prince himself came out from the kitchen to say hello and praised me for ordering the pear dish, saying that the pope had it so often that they called it the “el papa” pasta. The pope has good taste; 13 years later, and I’ve never forgotten that dish. [ Gwen Ihnat ]

A Razor, A Shiny Knife

When The A.V. Club had local editions, we received an invitation from a guerrilla dining collective called A Razor, A Shiny Knife . The New York-based group came to Chicago to cook an insane 20-course tribute to superstar chefs Grant Achatz (Alinea) and Thomas Keller (The French Laundry) at some random person’s apartment on Lake Shore Drive. When I arrived with my wife, it had the markings of an Eyes Wide Shut situation. I even said “fidelio” when we buzzed the intercom, probably to the confusion of whoever answered. Inside, it was not at all Kubrickian, because no one could have sex after eating so much. How much? Master of ceremonies Michael Cirino informed the dozen or so diners that each of us would be consuming roughly 7,000 calories and a pound of butter. (I’d add at least one bottle of wine per person to that.) It was madness—delicious, incredible madness. [ Kyle Ryan ]

Triple Rock Social Club

Like just about everyone else, my greatest meal had as much to do with the circumstances surrounding it as the food itself (though the food was also excellent). Early in our relationship, my significant other and I spent a summer half a continent apart from one another. It shouldn’t have been a big deal, given we spent the next three years doing the long-distance thing every weekend between New York and Philadelphia, but it was. So after being separated for a couple months, I was incredibly excited when they arrived in the Twin Cities, where I was staying with a friend. We went to the Triple Rock Social Club for dinner, which is a Minneapolis institute of which you should avail yourselves posthaste, if you have yet to discover its pleasures. (It’s a great music venue, to boot.) The anticipation of finally being in one another’s company again led to an orgy of consumption—veggie buffalo wings and nachos for appetizers, followed by two of the biggest sandwiches you’ll ever encounter: the Minneapolis Po’ Boy, with veggie sausage, and tater tots replacing the chips that usually accompany it. Did I mention we also asked for the tots to get the cheddar cheese treatment? It was heaven. I’ve never had a bad meal there, but that one was superlative. (Lots of drinks were also involved.) It looks like they’ve since removed the mystery “Chef’s Revenge” option (you get whatever they feel like making) from the menu, but we went back for that, and many other meals, in the subsequent days. It’s far from the fanciest food you’ll ever taste, but it’s probably the most satisfying. [ Alex McLevy ]

My Favorite Food Long Essay

Food is a very subjective choice. It ranges from person to person and depends on taste and eating habits. There cannot be made general statements such as which food is better or worst. The only parameter to rate a dish is in terms of favourite, which is very personal. My favourite food is waffles. This is a European dish which originates from the land of France and Belgium. The two countries are believed to have a very strong hold on this dish.

Waffles are prepared when the leavened batter is cooked in the waffle maker which is a kind of cooking iron, similar to a sandwich maker. The batter is rightly cooked until the waffle is obtained. The batter can have sweet or savoury flavours. It can also be tasteless. The other part of the recipe is the toppings. Sweet waffles are usually decorated and topped with chocolate sauce, maple syrup, honey, and other kinds of sweetened elements.

Further, spicy waffles or savoury ones are unsweetened and mostly unflavored and are used as slices of bread for chicken sandwiches. The kinds of consistency sauces used depend on the desired flavour of the waffles. For example, for a Chicken waffle sandwich, fried chicken can be used in barbeque sauce and placed between two waffles along with vegetables.

My favourite type of waffle is the red velvet waffle where the batter is of the red velvet cake and the filling used is usually white chocolate. It is usually served as a dessert and is extremely sweetened. Waffles are highly flexible and versatile and they can be eaten as breakfast, meal, or dessert depending on the flavour induced in them.

Short Essay on My Favorite Food

Pasta is an Italian dish which is also easily available at many food junctions, cafes, restaurants, and outlets. It is my favourite food and automatically makes my day better if I consume it. It can be easily made at home by preparing sauce or spice mix and adding boiled pasta to them. There are many kinds of pasta such as Macaroni, Spaghetti, Fusilli, Penne, Rigatoni, Fettuccini, Farfalle, Ravioli, Tortellini, Gnocchi, Lasagna, and more. These can be prepared in a variety of sauces such as Alfredo or White Sauch, Arrabiata or Red Sauce, Pink Sauce, Aglio Olio, Pesto, Mushroom, Minced Meat, Bolognese, and many more.

Pasta is usually made of all-purpose flour, semolina, wheat, and sometimes, even multigrain. One of the key ingredients in the preparation of Pasta, and mostly all Italian dishes is Cheese and Oregano., alongside salt and pepper. Basil, Pesto, Garlic, Onion, and Bell Peppers, are a few vegetables that are used while cooking pasta.

One of the pasta types, Mac and Cheese is very easy to make as it only required Macaroni to be baked with cheese. Pasta is not a very spicy or savoury dish which makes it very easy to be consumed by anyone with any kind of eating preference and the flexibility of pasta is what makes it my favourite food.

Apart from being as important as air or water, it nourishes us, and it also is a great source of fun and joy, right? Children enjoy their meals and fondly remember all their favourite foods, from a holiday special family recipe or something they eat at festivals or even birthday parties! It’s all around them and frankly, it’s all that they think about. Well, apart from toys, friends, and fun.

Children are often asked to write about their favourite food in an essay as part of their school assignment. For this essay, they are expected to say which is their favourite food and why they like it. In a more descriptive essay, they can write where they ate it and other facts.

Our country has a vast variety of foods, and each region has its own unique dishes. Everyone has different food preferences. One’s favourite food has a special place in their heart. So writing about it will make them feel good. When your child writes an essay on ‘My Favourite Food’ for classes 1, 2 or 3, they must first think and imagine several ideas that they can write about. This improves their thought process. Then they write those ideas in simple sentences. This activity lays their foundation in English grammar and improves their vocabulary and creative writing skills. Let us guide your child on how to write an essay on their favourite food!

There are some significant points your child needs to remember while writing a composition on their favourite food. Let us guide them stepwise to compose a paragraph on the food they love:

  • In the first step, let your child imagine the ideas they want to write about their favourite food.

  • Next, guide your child to form easy-to-read short and simple sentences from the outline.
  • Motivate your child not to describe any idea too deeply, and stick to the word limit.
  • Help your child to write with the flow. That will make them cherish writing the essay.
  • Your child can mention the name of their favourite food, the region to which that particular food belongs, the nutritional benefits of the food, etc.

Children in lower primary classes would have tasted and enjoyed a variety of foods. They are expected to understand and be able to write about their favourite food and describe its taste and flavours in short and simple sentences. Here is an example of an essay for children of class 1:

  • Food is very important for our health.
  • We need food to survive and stay fit.
  • There are lots of different types of foods.
  • My favourite food is biryani.
  • Biryani has rice, meat or vegetables, and lots of spices.
  • My mother makes delicious biryani at home.
  • Everyone in my family enjoys eating it every Sunday, it’s a staple!
  • Biryani is best enjoyed along with some curd or raita.
  • It is a one-pot dish that takes time to cook but can be prepared easily.
  • It is a wholesome meal that is healthy, filling and delicious!

As children grow, they are expected to be able to write their ideas in simple sentences weaved into a paragraph. Let us help them write a small composition on their favourite food in about 150 words:

My favourite food is a burger. It has many layers of fresh vegetables, sauces and a patty filled between two buns. A burger is a fun dish, and everyone at home enjoys eating it. Many restaurants serve delicious burgers, but I love the one my mother makes at home. I love the taste of the fresh, crunchy lettuce leaves, the tangy tomatoes and the cheese that melts in the mouth. Burgers are my favourite 4 pm snack, and my mom always makes it as healthy as she can! I love every bite!

Children love eating a variety of food and take great pleasure in rejoicing in their taste and flavours. Let us help your child express these experiences in words and write a paragraph on My Favourite Food:

My favourite food is pav bhaji . This dish originated in Mumbai, but it is popular throughout the country. The dish consists of delicious mashed vegetables blended with spices, with richly buttered buns called pav. My mother makes yummy pav bhaji at home. I look forward to having it every time she makes it. Pav bhaji is highly nutritious because it is full of healthy vegetables. I enjoy it with lots of melted butter on the piping hot bhaji .

India has different varieties of food coming from different regions of the country. Let us help your child write a beautiful composition on my favourite food:

My favourite food is a homely meal of rajma and chawal . This dish originates from the state of Punjab and has become a hot favourite all over the country! It is a combination of kidney beans ( rajma ) slow-cooked in a flavourful curry, served with rice. I find the taste of rajma chawal delicious! This food is also very healthy and gives us energy because it is packed with nutrition. We get lots of protein from the beans, and rice gives us the right amount of carbohydrates. My mother makes rajma chawal every Sunday for lunch, and my whole family sits together and enjoys it. It is our comfort food. I like adding some lemon juice to the rajma for the tanginess it gives. I love it because it is yummy, healthy and because we always have a great time while enjoying this sumptuous meal!

Food is an essential part of a child’s life. At a growing age, they need food to become healthy and fit. They also have their favourites from the wide range of foods they have tasted and enjoyed. Let us help your child compose a beautiful essay on their favourite food essay 200 words for class 3:

I love eating delicious food, but of them all, pizza is my favourite. It originated in Italy many years ago. A pizza is made of a round flat base, spread with a special pizza sauce and lots of toppings like tomatoes, basil, onions, jalapenos, capsicum, mushroom or meat. To top it all, there is lots of cheese, which is my favourite part!

My mother bakes delicious pizzas at home. On every special occasion, we all enjoy her homemade pizzas. She makes them from scratch, right from making the base. She puts lots of vegetables on top, mixed with mushrooms to make it healthier and more nutritious. I love each bite of the crispy crust with the vegetables and cheese. It is healthy and full of nutritious ingredients and also very yummy. I look forward to the days when we have pizza for dinner!

Food has a special place in our lives. Through this assignment on their favourite food, your child learns about different foods from different regions of the country, and some popular dishes from other countries. They relish their favourite food a lot more after writing about it! This topic also helps them consider the health and nutrition value of food and appreciate what they eat. It encourages them to explore new food and understand its unique flavours, ingredients and characteristics.

Writing their ideas in the form of essays will improve your child’s thought patterns, and they will learn to structure their thoughts in a certain way to put them down on paper in short and simple sentences.

Moreover, the act of writing itself develops your little one’s fine motor skills along with their creative writing skills.

We hope the above examples will help your child write an amazing essay on their favourite food. Your little one can read through this essay as a guide and learn to write it on their own.

Organizing Paragraphs with MEAL Plan

facebook

Well-organized paragraphs guide readers logically through an essay’s development, adding to the effectiveness of the argument and the credibility of the writer. Paragraphs vary in length and structure based on context, but they should focus on only one idea. Most paragraphs also include the following elements: a statement of the paragraph’s main ( M ) idea, evidence ( E ) to support that main idea, analysis ( A ) of that evidence, and some link ( L ) to the paper’s thesis. The MEAL Plan is an easy, effective strategy to help you organize paragraphs.

All paragraphs should have a main idea or point. Typically, this main idea is expressed in a topic sentence—a sort of mini-thesis statement for the paragraph. Often, a topic sentence is the first sentence of the paragraph, though it may come after or within a transition statement.

If you have trouble identifying the main idea of a paragraph, try writing “This paragraph is about…” and then finish the sentence. You can cross out the phrase and revise the rest into a clear, strong topic sentence:

  • This paragraph is about why Steelman is a better superhero than Green Muscle.
  • This paragraph is about   Why is Steelman a better superhero than Green Muscle ?
  • Steelman’s ingenuity makes him a better superhero than Green Muscle because this quality allows him to reason and make decisions based on his intellectual abilities.

E vidence/ E xamples/ E xplanation

This next section of the paragraph elaborates on the main idea. Depending on the type of assignment, the paragraph might require one or more of these “E”s:

  • Evidence—What does the main idea of the paragraph need to support it? Make sure to cite outside information.
  • Explanation—Do you need to explain key terms, concepts, or events? What information in the paragraph may be especially complex or unclear?
  • Examples—Other main ideas are best suited to examples, either from personal experience or research, to illustrate or highlight elements of the main idea.

Once the main idea has been stated and supported, it is time to break that information down and analyze it. What more do your readers need to understand about the evidence or examples you provided? How can you make it clear that you are interpreting this information in a certain way? In other words, this is the section of the paragraph where the HOW ? WHY ? or WHO CARES ? of your evidence is explained.

Linking refers to the link between a paragraph and the paper’s thesis. Ask yourself how does this paragraph contribute to the overall effectiveness of the paper ? You may not end up including that answer as part of the paragraph, but you must make sure you have made the connection clear. Too often writers assume readers automatically will recognize the link on their own, but your job as a writer is to make it impossible for a reader to miss how each paragraph supports your overall goal for the paper. Think about this connection to your thesis as a way to develop a smooth transition to the next paragraph.

Example of a paragraph using the MEAL Plan

1. Steelman possesses qualities that make him a more effective superhero than Green Muscle. 2.   As Steelman, Tawny Stork chose the life of a superhero. Stork, a genius engineer and the mastermind behind the steel suit, uses reason and brains to defeat villains. Impulsive as he may be, Steelman uses his intellectual abilities to overcome obstacles. Green Muscle, however, reached superhero status accidentally. Brace Bunner, the human form of Green Muscle, is an equally intelligent physicist; however, he only reaches superhero status through anger. 3.   Once Brace Bunner becomes Green Muscle, his intellect ceases to exist. While Green Muscle may possess great strength, his inability to control this strength weakens him. Steelman’s intellectual and reasoning skills and the fact that he chooses to protect the world from super villains gives him an advantage over Green Muscle.  4.   Green Muscle and Steelman make a great team if fighting together. Steelman would outsmart Green Muscle any day, but this would only make Green Muscle angrier and therefore stronger. If the two were to fight each other, it would be a close brawl.

1. The topic sentence expresses the MAIN IDEA of the paragraph. The rest of the paragraph should relate to the qualities Steelman possesses that make him a more effective superhero than Green Muscle.

2. EVIDENCE supports the fact that Steelman posseses qualities that make him a more effective superhero than Green Muscle are contained in the sentences following the topic sentence.

3. These sentences explore how Steelman’s qualities make him a more effective superhero than Steelman; therefore, these sentences provide ANALYSIS of the evidence that the writer has included in this paragraph.

4. The final sentences of this paragraph explicitly LINK everything that the author has discussed in the paragraph back to the thesis.

Additional tips for effective paragraphs

When you finish writing a paragraph, read through it again and make sure that every single sentence has something to do with the main idea. If it doesn’t, the sentence doesn’t belong in that paragraph. You may need to start another paragraph, move that piece of information elsewhere in your paper, or delete the information because it may not be relevant to your paper.

To assess your organization and paragraphing further, create a reverse outline of your paper. See the KSU Writing Center’s Reverse Outlining handout for more information and detailed instructions.

My favorite restaurant essay

My favorite restaurant essay 12 models

Last updated Saturday , 16-03-2024 on 10:33 am

My favorite restaurant essay ,The places we prefer vary according to our taste, culture and mood, along with our experience and our first impression of the place. Today I will talk about my favorite restaurant that I went to one day and leave me feeling calm and happy as well as the quality of the food and its tasty taste. All this will be found here in My favorite restaurant essay

My favorite restaurant essay

Places we prefer vary depending on our taste, culture, mood, previous experience and our first impression of the place.

Today, I will talk about my favorite restaurant that I visited one day and left an impression of calm and quietness as well as the quality of the food and it’s tasty taste.

Italian cuisine is one of the most famous kitchens around the world and is one of the most luxurious and characteristic cuisines in the world. It is the origin of pasta and pizza that is unparalleled anywhere else.

The Italian restaurant is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding and magnificent food establishments in my city. Characterized by the quiet atmosphere, its light-colored interior and its elegant, glamorous decor, it was once a cafe before turning into a restaurant with many qualities of the former.

The restaurant offers delicious dining options, with Italian authentic flavor. Waiters in the restaurant are friendly and respectful.

This place is no less than a typical example of how to build a restaurant.

The restaurant serves many famous Italian meals.

The chicken soup with cream is a great start to any meal, and I have not found a restaurant serving it as here. I prefer the Chicken Caesar Salad after it.

My favorite dishes are the fettuccine Alfredo pasta with chicken, grilled chicken with cream and mushroom sauce. I love pizza of all kinds. They are all delicious and different options. Parmesan cheese is a good choice to accompany any Italian dish.

Canoloni Agnolotti with garlic and rosemary is one of the best Italian dishes. Agnolotti is a stuffed pasta and is very similar to ravioli, served with some rosemary and garlic. This dish is one of the distinctive foods in Italian cuisine.

Rap Arancini broccoli with marinara sauce is one of the best Italian dishes. It is rice balls with well fried broccoli and characterized by its golden color and served with marinara sauce.

The restaurant also offers different types of juices with meals. Such as lemon juice with mint mixed with crushed ice is an effective recipe for extinguishing the heat of the atmosphere.

The restaurant at the weekend is busy … my advice is to arrive early or book or call for booking to ensure a place.

The restaurant is rated 4 stars and its prices are high.

my favorite restaurant

My favorite restaurant for sure is one that specializes in chicken meals. The name of my favorite restaurant is “…?…”. It contains in the menu many recipes of chicken. I would prefer to order the Portuguese style chicken. So it contains a lot of hot spices. I prefer to choose the shape of the chicken and how to present it, whether it is with bones or boneless. Like a chicken burger or grilled chicken. Or other delicious recipes that I find very nice. I love to serve salads and appetizers first. Then serve the main meal in addition to some of the side dishes that I can add to the meal. All this is very nice to me.

my favourite restaurant essay

My favorite restaurant is an Italian restaurant called “…?…”. The best meal it serves is delicious and wonderful pizza. I like the way they prepare this pizza more than many other restaurants. I find it a nice way they cut the ingredients, I always find it thin and it is always fresh and of excellent quality.

The degree of cooking is great, always moderate and not too much. So I love it so much and I love eating it in this place so much. I can’t get rid of the wonderful smell that I can smell while it’s still on its way to me.

I certainly have that childish expression on my face because I long to take a piece of it and leave it a little in my mouth. I can never hide this expression no matter who I take with me to my favorite restaurant.

Of course, what makes me more determined for this restaurant is the experiences of others around me, friends and family, all of whom praise the wonderful taste of this restaurant.

I feel like I’m going there very soon, because this talk made me want to eat some pizza. I might go today, I don’t know if I could, but if I did, it would be very nice.

I also hope that everyone will be fortunate to find a favorite restaurant that he would like to return to with great anticipation.

restaurant essay

My favorite restaurant is very simple, I can not say that it is one of those large and famous restaurants that contain several stars, led by a skilled team of highly-acclaimed chefs.

My favorite restaurant is one of those small restaurants that the owner and one of his sons strive to manage and satisfy customers. Those restaurants you can find on the corner of the street.

They don’t have much food on the main menu but they do have a feeling of love and affection. I always order different food to try the items they have and they all feel the same as the food my mum made for me.

I like very much to order and eat meals that are served in famous restaurants, such as burgers, KFC pieces. Certainly not the same quality. But it makes me very happy. It’s great to see what it looks like in other places and get the closest taste to it. With a simple soft drink.

That’s all I can say in an essay about a restaurant in which I can express my experience. I wish in the future to finish my studies and be able to travel to broaden my horizons of thought. Visit famous restaurants and eat different meals. Until then, this simple restaurant will remain my favorite.

paragraph about restaurant

I like that the restaurant in which I eat my food contains Mexican or Indian recipes that contain sharp spices, especially chicken. I like to have the ability to choose in the size provided, such as a quarter to a whole chicken. Where I ask only for what is sufficient for me and there is nothing left. I also prefer that it be served with the meal, French fries and a large glass of soft water, such as Coca-Cola. I find such restaurants serving these meals very wonderful to me.

my favorite restaurant essay

It’s great that I can talk about my favorite restaurant. I like very much restaurants that have modern  menu on the food, the drinks and the dessert .

I am very attracted by those that are served as pumpkin sauce with cream. Or offer arugula juice. Things like this make me happy.

Eating in the restaurant is one of the good things. Since childhood, we did not encourage eating in restaurants a lot due to the loss of beneficial nutrients. The orders are always saturated with oils and fats.

But because of the change and the experience of some new varieties, I became a lot more encouraged to eat in restaurants. One of my most favorite restaurants is the tomato Indian restaurant. They can always surprise me and offer one of those new meals or offer a modern sauce that I like.

my favorite restaurant short essay

My favorite restaurant is near my house. The name of the restaurant is “………” This is definitely my favorite restaurant because the price is very cheap. I can for as little as “Put the price of the meal here ‘ I can eat a whole bowl of pasta.

But what is really special about this restaurant is that I can get an additional amount of the same size and the same price if I want more . So, I like the idea of little money and a lot of food. I love going to this restaurant very much.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 2

My favorite restaurant is dedicated to fresh seafood. I love eating recipes from this restaurant, such as the shrimp dish mixed with cream and garlic. I am amazed at the consistency of this dish.

I really like the innovative way they present this dish, so I highly recommend it to all my friends and family. It is always a pleasure to return for this dish at High Seas Restaurant.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 3

On occasions, I always go with my family to eat at my favorite restaurant, me and my siblings. The name of this restaurant is Crazy about you.

Your imagination will surely go with this wonderful name. And it is worth it in fact, it is dedicated to food and dancing as well, as it contains an area dedicated to dancing in different forms. There are always new people and different requests for dances that express their reference.

Eating is more fun while watching, and my brothers and I often participate in dancing. It makes us have a lot of fun and have a great time.

I like it very much when my dad and mom share a quiet dance. It makes us feel so happy when we see them smiling and nothing distracts them for a few minutes.

This place is my favorite and one day when I make a family I would like to go back and spend such a wonderful family time.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 6

My favorite restaurant is sweet and savory restaurant. This restaurant is famous for serving very delicious meals such as burgers, chicken and Italian pasta. It also features wonderful dessert meals, whether hot or cold.

This place is my favorite because I always love variety and innovation and I don’t like to eat the same meal whenever I go there. I would rather try all their varieties. Especially sweet dishes that always make me feel happy and re-energize me after eating a heavy meal.

In fact, I love to eat a lot and have a great appetite. I like to eat until I feel full. So this is my favorite restaurant because it serves a large plate of food. Not like those famous restaurants that serve small samples in the middle of the plate.

I would very much love to come back and eat there from time to time and try some spicy food like Indian food. Although they are not specialized in it, but they offer some wonderful simple meals that contain different spices. I also like the way the meat is grilled and the spices used. It has a sharp and clear taste.

Definitely very soon I will be going again to this restaurant and I am glad that I have a favorite restaurant that can make me happy.

my favourite restaurant essay for class 7

My favorite restaurant is very simple and it’s just a car parked by the road near my house with a man working on it always smiling. He makes snacks called hot dog sandwiches. Its price is very low, it tastes great, it is nice to talk with friends and eat in the middle of the road where the air and friends are.

I often have it on my way back from school. And before going to exercise, I find it wonderful to eat this meal. It makes me feel energized.  My friends in training often ask to bring them some. Everyone loves a hot dog, it is suitable for all times. Quick to prepare, easy to eat and completely satiating.

Of course, this is not a famous restaurant or one of the famous dishes, but always the most important thing is psychological comfort and happiness. This place always makes me happy. All I need is a hot dog sandwich and a glass of soda water.

my first visit to a restaurant essay 250 words

My first visit to a restaurant was years ago and it was the famous McDonald’s. My family used to take me there to have a happy meal and to provide a space for the children to play.

Always in these restaurants in every country you will find a dedicated area for children in which they can play and practice a lot of activities.

I remember my first day getting a good meal and a gift too. The gift was a small car. I was very happy with it, I didn’t want to play with it at the time, but kept it until I got home and then played with it.

I remember very well that I was able to keep it intact and working for several years later. One of the wonderful things that delight children are such gifts.

I remember the games in the place and there was this room full of little balls that we jump on, and we swim in trying to get out, and dive inside and throw them all over the place.

I also remember participating with other children in the race for those who climb to the skating game, and shouting loudly while skating.

Definitely this place is my favorite and I like to go back and eat there, and it would be great if I got one of the gifts they offer.

It is great that my family took me to this place where I was able to create very wonderful memories. And build a good family bond with them. Such outings make you always want to accompany them, eat with them, and visit different places.

Of course, I now have several different experiences from visiting restaurants, but my first restaurant remains the best, and returning to it makes me feel happiness that I often need it.

I love the idea of a place that makes me happy and I want to go back to it and bring back some good memories. Thank you McDonald’s for being a partner in this happiness memories.

My Favorite Food

Jump ahead to:

Here you have Expository Essay on My Favourite Food, let’s start with the Introduction.

Introduction

I’m not a foodie, and I don’t go out of my way to try new things, but I know what I like. I’ve always wanted the fish, whether it was cooked whole or cut into fillets. My mother recognized my intense appetite for fish and made it a point to feed us fish every week. I didn’t know or understand the nutritional benefits of fish back then, but I knew it tasted good. I could eat it plain or with rice, and everyone at home appreciated my decision. As I grew older and learned to understand the various advantages of eating fish, I convinced myself that I had made the correct decision.

Today, I could eat fish every day, but I’m on the lookout for another dish to add to my list of favorites, just like I did when I first found fish. However, this time around, I’m seeking a vegetable mix. But, getting back to fish, just thinking about it makes my mouth water, but I’m going to attempt to resist the impulse to go out and find some so I can finish this article. In this essay, I’ll discuss why I believe everyone should eat fish and some of the various methods to prepare it.

Reasons why everyone should eat fish?

Enriched with vitamin d.

Vitamin D has been one of the most talked-about vitamins due to widespread deficiency in recent years. According to Forrest and Stuhldreher (2011), 41.6 percent of Americans are Vitamin D deficient and do little to nothing to improve their situation. However, according to Leech (2015), fish is by far the most well-known dietary source of Vitamin D. He goes on to say that eating fish like herring and salmon will provide you with the most Vitamin D.

Aids in the treatment of depression

Depression is a known and actual condition that can lead to mortality. Sad people frequently end their own lives or give up on life and all of their relationships. On the other hand, Leech advises that eating fish can make you happier than before. Depression is currently one of the world’s most severe or widespread health issues. Grosso et al. (2014) found that those who consume fish regularly, such as myself, have decreased incidence of depression.

Lowers the risk of developing heart disease.

One of the most pressing health issues today is a heart attack. Eating fish can help prevent or lessen the odds of developing heart disease or suffering a heart attack. According to a study conducted by Mozaffarian and Rimm (2007), eating fish once or twice a week reduces the odds of dying from the cardiac disease by 36 percent. This alone is reason enough to incorporate fish into one’s weekly diet. Thousands of individuals die each year in the United States from heart disease or heart attacks. The bad news is that such reports and research are frequently ignored. On the other hand, this reason made me want to eat fish even more, and I’m never going back.

Increases a person’s mental capacity.

Anything that increases my mental capacity is something I will consume every week. Fish contains crucial nutrients known as omega-3 fatty acids, demonstrated in studies to aid cognitive boost. I will seek more of what I am instructed to eat if I can get my brain working at its optimum while I am still young. However, there has been slight sensitization since few people eat fish and those who do not comprehend why they should never eliminate it from their diet.

Aids in the growth of youngsters

Omega-3 fatty acids are also crucial throughout pregnancy, according to research, for the development of the neurological system and the baby’s brain. Fish, it appears, is necessary for a child’s development and will ensure that a child never has any motor, social, or communication issues. There will be no symptoms of brain development delay.

Improves the health of one’s skin

For people concerned about their skin’s state, fish can also aid in improving their skin’s health. According to reports, fish has an ingredient called EPA, which helps regulate oil production in the skin and keeps it moisturized. Furthermore, fish aids in the preservation of one’s skin and can protect one’s skin from UV rays.

FAQ about My Favorite Food Essay & Paragraph

We need food to provide our bodies with the nutrients and energy they require to function properly. These nutrients include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals. Without enough of these nutrients, our bodies can’t grow and repair tissues, produce energy, or properly regulate functions such as our immune systems and metabolism.

It’s okay to enjoy your favorite foods as part of a balanced diet, but it’s important to remember that variety is key to a healthy diet. Eating the same foods repeatedly can lead to nutrient deficiencies and make your meals less enjoyable. It’s important to include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats in your diet to ensure that you’re getting all the necessary nutrients. Additionally, having a balance diet can also help prevent chronic disease.

Fast food is often high in calories, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium, which can contribute to weight gain and an increased risk of chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure when consumed in excess. It is important to be aware of the nutritional content of the fast food you are eating and make informed choices.

Eating fast food occasionally as part of a balanced diet is generally okay. However, it is not recommended to make a regular habit of eating fast food, as it can contribute to nutrient deficiencies and displace healthier food choices. Instead, it’s better to prepare meals at home using fresh, whole ingredients, which can be more nutritious and allow you to control the ingredients and portion sizes.

When writing about your favorite food, it’s important to be descriptive and use sensory language to convey the taste, texture, and appearance of the food. Here are a few tips on how to write about your favorite food:

  • Start by describing the appearance of the food. What does it look like? Is it colorful or monochromatic? Is it smooth or chunky?
  • Next, describe the texture of the food. Is it crunchy, chewy, or soft? How does it feel in your mouth?
  • Then, describe the taste and flavor of the food. What are the dominant flavors? Are they sweet, savory, spicy, or sour? Are there any unique or interesting flavors that make this food special?
  • Share the history and cultural background of the food. It can be interesting for the reader to know where it comes from and how it is traditionally consumed
  • Finally, explain why it is your favorite food. What is it about this food that you love? How does it make you feel? How often do you eat it?

Remember to be honest, specific, and use vivid language to make your writing come alive.

It is hard to make a list of the 10 most favorite foods in the world as different cultures have different tastes, preferences and cuisines. However, here is a list of some foods that are popular and well-loved globally:

  • Pizza – a dish made with a wheat flour base, topped with tomato sauce, cheese, and various toppings.
  • Sushi – a Japanese dish made with vinegared rice, raw fish, and vegetables.
  • Pasta – a dish made from wheat flour, eggs, and water, usually served with a sauce.
  • Tacos – a Mexican dish made with a tortilla, filled with meat, beans, cheese, and vegetables.
  • Fried Chicken – a dish made by marinating chicken in a mixture of spices and flour before deep-frying it.
  • Curry – a dish made with a combination of spices, vegetables and meat or fish, originating from South Asia.
  • BBQ ribs – a dish made by grilling or smoking meat, usually pork, with a barbecue sauce.
  • Pho – a Vietnamese dish made with rice noodles, meat, and a flavorful broth.
  • Ramen – a Japanese dish made with Chinese-style wheat noodles, meat, and vegetables in a broth.
  • Hummus – a Middle Eastern dip made from chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, and spices.

Again, this is not an exhaustive list, and there are many other delicious and popular foods from around the world that could be included.

Looking for the best places to see the April 8 solar eclipse in the totality path? You may have to dodge clouds.

By Eric Henderson

Updated on: April 2, 2024 / 2:12 PM EDT / CBS News

America is gearing up for the April 8 total solar eclipse , and in less than a week many will be scrambling to find the best location to watch within the path of totality. Meteorologists are closely monitoring the latest models, and while it won't be until a few days prior to the event that the national forecast will be fully cooked, historical data suggests those hoping to view the corona and see a fully darkened midday sky may find themselves dodging clouds due to April weather patterns.

The last time a total solar eclipse traversed an elongated path across the continental U.S. — on Aug. 21, 2017 — Americans could be caught gazing at the midday dark from Oregon all the way to South Carolina. Most spots along the path of totality enjoyed reasonably clear, summer skies.

Those living or visiting along the path of totality next week may not end up so fortunate, as historical weather maps show the odds of experiencing a cloud-free sky at this time of year are somewhat less than ideal. In fact, finding a totally clear view at any given time is closer to the exception than the rule.

"According to NASA, at any given time, 70% of the earth is covered in clouds," said Mike Augustyniak , CBS Minnesota director of meteorology.

Not only is North America in the middle of the volatility of changing seasons during this year's solar event, but meteorologists note that we're also currently in an El Niño pattern, albeit one that's proven quieter than usual.

"An El Niño pattern tends to increase the chances of cloudy, rainy weather in those areas. Interestingly, though, that is not how this winter and spring have played out," said Augustyniak. "Since the start of 2024, Texas Hill Country and western Texas areas have been markedly drier than average; if that trend holds for the next few weeks, that would be good news for eclipse watchers."

The path of totality is only about 150 miles wide, and in America stretches roughly 2,500 miles from the Texas border to the last few towns in northeastern Maine. That leaves only so many places where you can seek the full show, though the path's width will be significantly wider than it was in 2017, according to NASA , as the moon will to be closer to Earth on this pass than it was then.

So will April showers bring spectator flowers? Here's a breakdown of which places along the path of totality are most likely to give eclipse chasers the best odds.

United States map showing the percent of cloud cover in various regions of the eclipse path on April 8. The lakeshore region will be primarily affected.

Viewing the eclipse in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas

Augustyniak said at this transitional time of year, the further south you can go, the more likely you are to experience clear skies during eclipse totality.

"Of the areas where the total eclipse will be visible on April 8, that includes the Hill Country of Texas, and the Mexican states of Coahuila and Durango," Augustyniak said.

Of course, the further south you get, the more you increase your chances of running into not only clouds, but rain.

"Spring is our storm season of course," said Jeff Ray , chief meteorologist for CBS Texas.

Ray said that you can almost bet on needing to do a little bit of reverse storm-chasing — in other words, doing some last-minute navigation to dart away from the oncoming clouds, rather than toward them — on or around the eclipse in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

"There will be storms around the day of April 8. I say that because we rarely get through a week in spring without a couple of rounds coming through the area during this time of the year. Will they arrive a day before and be gone? Not start up until later that day? Maybe two days later? We are looking at our long-range model the GFS for the date and it looks like storms on the eighth," Ray said, with a caveat. "Long-range models are notoriously inaccurate for a specific day. But there is a good chance the storms the model sees will materialize, give or take a 36-hour period."

Ray said that Texas sees, on average, a sunny or mostly sunny April day only about 28% of the time. Conversely, the region gets April days with mostly cloudy or fully overcast conditions about 36% of the time.

"High clouds can arrive several days before the storm system, they are overhead in April around 22% of the time. A sky with some kind of cloud cover is likely," said Ray. "A typical April day would have near overcast skies in the morning, then the heating of the day makes for more sunshine. So an afternoon even has better odds of a good view of the eclipse."

Eclipse map of totality

The eclipse will reach totality in Texas from about 1:30 p.m. CT near Elm Creek until wrapping up near the Oklahoma border a few minutes before 2 p.m. Some of the most populous areas along the path of totality will be during this leg, from San Antonio and Austin to Dallas-Fort Worth.

One final factor to consider if you're heading to the area — tornadoes. Ray said that the National Weather Office in Fort Worth has tallied all the confirmed tornadoes since 1880, and in April and May, north Texas has seen more than 1,100 twisters, compared with the nearly 900 seen in all other months.

"So more tornadoes in the 61-day window than all of the other days of the year combined," Ray said, "but the tornado count varies greatly from year to year."

Ultimately, Ray said that April is traditionally the third-stormiest month of the year in Texas.

"In short, April is not the best, nor the worst, time of the year to hope for clear or mostly clear skies. The best would be July or August. The worst would be January or February," he said. "We get a decent idea of the expected weather about seven days out. Four days out we get more comfortable talking about the timing of a rain or storm event. But it's the weather, we are trying to throw a lasso around chaos. It is not rare we forecasters look like fools."

Viewing the eclipse in Missouri, southern Illinois and Indiana

While many are likely to head as far south as possible, some of the biggest cities in the Midwest are likely to fuel day-of migration to spots in Missouri and Illinois, many of them likely seeing a total eclipse for the second time in a decade. A small zone centered around Carbondale, Illinois, was along the path of totality in 2017, and will be once again this month.

While those in the St. Louis area seeking areas to watch in southeastern Missouri will find historical odds for cloud-free viewing roughly comparable to Arkansas, and those in the Chicago metro area should find their best bet is to head toward the southern part of Illinois.

"If you're unable to travel (to Texas or Arkansas), then Southern Illinois and Indiana present your best opportunity for a clearer sky, supported by the 43-year average and, of course, weather permitting," said Albert Ramon , chief meteorologist for CBS Chicago.

solar-eclipse-2024-path-3d-201p-cdt.png

There will likely be some who decide that 90% or 95% totality is enough for them. But Ramon warns that those in the Chicago metro area could be at a higher risk to find their view obscured by clouds.

"Based on a comprehensive 43-year average , April 8 typically brings cloud cover chances ranging from 60 to 80% across Chicago and its surrounding suburbs, with similar patterns observed in Indianapolis, where cloud cover hovers between 60 to 70%," Ramon said.

Viewing the eclipse near the Great Lakes and Pennsylvania

Ramon said another factor that could make viewing along the path of totality something of a challenge in the Midwest is the lingering influence of an El Niño weather pattern.

"Its presence elevates the chances of clouds across the Midwest and Great Lakes regions," Ramon said. "This year may even be a bit more cloudier than the normal."

The Great Lakes portion of totality's path includes large sections of Ohio, including Cleveland, along with the area of Ontario south of Toronto, Niagara Falls, and Erie, Pennsylvania. CBS Pittsburgh meteorologist Ray Petelin said many of these areas are subject to the wildcard that is the Great Lakes.

"They are known for lake-effect snow, but it is the lake-effect clouds that could hide the eclipse. Erie, which is in the path of totality, averages only six clear days during the month of April. Pittsburgh, which has the potential to see around 97% of totality, only averages four clear days in April," Petelin said.

NASA total eclipse animation

Petelin says that a southerly breeze and warmer-than-average temperatures would go a long way toward helping the Great Lakes region out on April 8.

"While the historical data suggests the chances for a clear day are low, this winter and early spring have been exceptionally bright and warmer than usual. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we can get that perfect weather for when it matters most," Petelin said.

As it stands, the areas near the shores of the Great Lakes historically show a higher probability for clearer skies than areas inland.

Viewing the eclipse in New England

The eclipse will wrap up its march across the U.S. when the path of totality cuts across state lines from New York to Vermont just before 3:30 p.m. ET. By this point in the event, the duration of totality along the central line will have already fallen off from its peak — about 4 minutes, 30 seconds near Nazas, Mexico — to just over 3 minutes, 30 seconds, according to NASA.

solar-eclipse-2024-path-3d-328p-edt.png

"The southern edge of the totality line passes right through the towns of Middlebury, Northfield and Barre. You will need to get just north of these areas. Some suggested 'larger' towns include Montpelier, St. Johnsbury, Newport and Burlington," said Terry Eliasen , executive weather producer for CBS Boston.

In New Hampshire, the southern edge of totality will pass just north of the White Mountains. And in Maine, you'll need to get north of major cities like Portland, Augusta and Bangor. Eliasen said the entirety of Baxter State Park will be in the totality path, including Mount Katahdin.

The bad news: Eliasen said that those in the New England area face possibly the stiffest odds in the country for catching clear skies next Monday, based on historical patterns. The data says you're more likely to be negatively impacted by clouds pretty much anywhere in these three states than not.

"Frankly, northern New England is probably the worst place (historically speaking) in the path of totality as far as cloud cover goes," said Eliasen. "Of course, we could get lucky."

No luck? There's always the 2045 total solar eclipse

As a last-ditch hope for those who opt to stay put no matter where they're located, there's one last meteorological ace-in-the-hole that could offer reprieve, one fueled by the astronomical event itself.

"It's worth noting that, as totality approaches and sunlight is reduced, temperatures are likely to fall noticeably. Cooler temperatures can stabilize the atmosphere – like when the sun sets after a hot summer day – leading to a decrease in cloud cover," said Augustyniak. "Still, your best plan is to find an area that has no clouds to begin with."

And if the clouds end up sullying the view for some this month, another chance comes around in August 2045 , when a line of totality will stretch from northern California all the way to Miami Beach. Which, of course, will fall during the height of hurricane season.

There are countless ways to experience San Francisco, but nothing quite stacks up to a liquid commute into the city from Marin County. Here are a few good reasons to make the Larkspur ferry part of your visit to the Bay Area.

Welcome home

I was born in Marin County, but until recently had never returned to that part of the world largely because I’m always drawn to the endlessly interesting big city across the water.

But when I discovered an RV park near the Larkspur Landing ferry terminal, that was it. After nearly six months on the road, my husband and I pulled our 23-foot Thor Gemini into the Marin RV Park and started making big plans. First up, dinner at Hog Island Oyster Co. , at the nearby Marin Country Market .

John Finger and Terry Sawyer are founders of Hog Island Oyster Co., which has several popular ... [+] locations including Larkspur Landing in Marin County.

What a rich history

John Finger and Terry Sawyer founded Hog Island Oyster Co. , four decades ago, starting modestly with a five-acre lease on Tomales Bay. Today, Hog Island produces and sells more than 5 million oysters and assorted shellfish a year. Plus, the company has become a leader in the sustainable seafood movement.

The absolute star of the evening, though, was the seafood stew, a mainstay on the menu. The beautiful bowl was packed with a mess of mussels, clams, sweet shrimp and chunks of ling cod. Oh, and the grilled slices from Acme Bread Company were perfect for sopping up the rustic tomato broth. It definitely brightened up a rainy evening.

The cozy Hog Island is often packed and doesn’t take reservations, so it’s a good idea to call and find out the wait time before heading to the place during prime dining hours.

All aboard!

The ferry — run by Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation Department — is a shining example of the best kind of public transportation, with departures leaving regularly and on time. At least in the few times I’ve used it.

It’s a 30-minute trip across the Bay, a journey that begins gently and then roars to jet ski speeds upon reaching open waters. Yes, ball caps will fly off if you’re not careful. On this trip, passengers will be able to spot so many famous — and infamous — landmarks. There’s San Quentin and Alcatraz, as well as the Golden Gate and the Bay Bridge. Getting closer to the city, you can spot Coit Tower before docking at the spectacular landmark, The Ferry Building . A breathtaking trip for roughly the price of a fancy coffee drink.

I met up with friends for lunch on a busy Saturday. The vibrant Ferry Plaza Farmers Market is a glorious feast for all senses. We decided to grab a multi-course spread from some of the vendors, starting with an excellent pimento cheese from Point Reyes Creamery and crackers from Frog Hollow accompanied by an excellent Golden Kvass from . The view from a park bench near the water made for a truly memorable picnic.

Leta McCollough Seletzky and her husband Dimitri enjoyed a memorable picnic near the Ferry Building ... [+] in San Francisco. Leta is the author of the acclaimed book The Kneeling Man published by Penguin Random House. The paperback version is out April 2024.

A walking tour

After I said so long to my friends, I started walking towards Union Square, where I’d booked a night at the Beacon Grand Hotel. The stroll through the Financial District was pretty lonely, the streets cleared of pedestrians on a chill Saturday. In the square itself, there was live music but not much of a crowd gathered.

Like many downtowns, San Francisco was hard hit by the pandemic and the ensuing movement towards working from home. Still, there are encouraging signs of a new chapter beginning.

The Beacon Grand Hotel offers comfortable, modern rooms near Union Square. The historic property was ... [+] formerly the Sir Francis Drake.

Take the Beacon Grand, for instance. This historic property was once the famous Sir Francis Drake, home of the Beefeater costume-clad doormen. Its refreshed version takes care to preserve the nods to the storied past while bringing a modern sensibility to its comfortable rooms.

Dinner at The Post Room exceeded expectations for such a casual setting. My better half began with an expertly shaken Bombay Sapphire martini, though lamented the lone olive on the toothpick. Three cheers for a trio of those briny bites, right?

Speaking of briny bites, let’s have another round of oysters from Tomales Bay, please and thanks. Simple, elegant presentation let those oysters on the half shell shine.

For the main, the whole rock cod was a vision swimming in herbs and Italian-style beans and — wait, what this? It was expertly deboned in the kitchen, so there’s no need to deal with that sometimes messy process.

Whole rock cod at the Beacon Grand Hotel's Post Room was a standout on the seafood-centric menu.

After dinner hill climb

While it was still light, we took a stroll down memory lane all the way up to the top of Nob Hill. There were so many familiar haunts, the Tonga Room , the Top of the Mark , the steps of Grace Cathedral, where we happened to spy a certain Friends cast member emerge after getting hitched back in 1999. Going further back on this nostalgic tour, my grandmother lived in this neighborhood in the 1960s when I was a kid. While that swing set is long gone, the current playground still stirred up the feeling of going home. A very sweet way to end an extra special trip to one of my favorite cities.

New York Takes Crucial Step Toward Making Congestion Pricing a Reality

The board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority voted to approve a new $15 toll to drive into Manhattan. The plan still faces challenges from six lawsuits before it can begin in June.

Multiple cars are stopped at a traffic light at a Manhattan intersection. A person responsible for controlling traffic stands nearby wearing a yellow reflective vest.

New York City completed a crucial final step on Wednesday in a decades-long effort to become the first American city to roll out a comprehensive congestion pricing program, one that aims to push motorists out of their cars and onto mass transit by charging new tolls to drive into Midtown and Lower Manhattan.

The program could start as early as mid-June after the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the state agency that will install and manage the program, voted 11-to-1 to approve the final tolling rates, which will charge most passenger cars $15 a day to enter at 60th Street and below in Manhattan. The program is expected to reduce traffic and raise $1 billion annually for public transit improvements.

It was a historic moment for New York’s leaders and transportation advocates after decades of failed attempts to advance congestion pricing even as other gridlocked cities around the world, including London, Stockholm and Singapore, proved that similar programs could reduce traffic and pollution.

While other American cities have introduced related concepts by establishing toll roads or closing streets to traffic, the plan in New York is unmatched in ambition and scale.

Congestion pricing is expected to reduce the number of vehicles that enter Lower Manhattan by about 17 percent, according to a November study by an advisory committee reporting to the M.T.A. The report also said that the total number of miles driven in 28 counties across the region would be reduced.

“This was the right thing to do,” Janno Lieber, the authority’s chairman and chief executive, said after the vote. “New York has more traffic than any place in the United States, and now we’re doing something about it.”

Congestion pricing has long been a hard sell in New York, where many people commute by car from the boroughs outside of Manhattan and the suburbs, in part because some of them do not have access to public transit.

New York State legislators finally approved congestion pricing in 2019 after Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo helped push it through. A series of recent breakdowns in the city’s subway system had underscored the need for billions of dollars to update its aging infrastructure.

It has taken another five years to reach the starting line. Before the tolling program can begin, it must be reviewed by the Federal Highway Administration, which is expected to approve it.

Congestion pricing also faces legal challenges from six lawsuits that have been brought by elected officials and residents from across the New York region. Opponents have increasingly mobilized against the program in recent months, citing the cost of the tolls and the potential environmental effects from shifting traffic and pollution to other areas as drivers avoid the tolls.

A court hearing is scheduled for April 3 and 4 on a lawsuit brought by the State of New Jersey, which is seen as the most serious legal challenge. The mayor of Fort Lee, N.J., Mark J. Sokolich, has filed a related lawsuit.

Four more lawsuits have been brought in New York: by Ed Day, the Rockland County executive; by Vito Fossella, the Staten Island borough president, and the United Federation of Teachers; and by two separate groups of city residents.

Amid the litigation, M.T.A. officials have suspended some capital construction projects that were to be paid for by the program, and they said at a committee meeting on Monday that crucial work to modernize subway signals on the A and C lines had been delayed.

Nearly all the toll readers have been installed, and will automatically charge drivers for entering the designated congestion zone at 60th Street or below. There is no toll for leaving the zone or driving around in it. Through traffic on Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive and the West Side Highway will not be tolled.

Under the final tolling structure, which was based on recommendations by the advisory panel, most passenger vehicles will be charged $15 a day from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. The toll will be $24 for small trucks and charter buses, and will rise to $36 for large trucks and tour buses. It will be $7.50 for motorcycles.

Those tolls will be discounted by 75 percent at night, dropping the cost for a passenger vehicle to $3.75.

Fares will go up by $1.25 for taxis and black car services, and by $2.50 for Uber and Lyft. Passengers will be responsible for paying the new fees, and they will be added to every ride that begins, ends or occurs within the congestion zone. There will be no nighttime discounts. (The new fees come on top of an existing congestion surcharge that was imposed on for-hire vehicles in 2019.)

The tolls will mostly be collected using the E-ZPass system. Electronic detection points have been placed at entrances and exits to the tolling zone. Drivers who do not use an E-ZPass will pay significantly higher fees — for instance, $22.50 instead of $15 during peak hours for passenger vehicles.

Emergency vehicles like fire trucks, ambulances and police cars, as well as vehicles carrying people with disabilities, were exempted from the new tolls under the state’s congestion pricing legislation .

As for discounts, low-income drivers who make less than $50,000 annually can apply to receive half off the daytime toll after their first 10 trips in a calendar month. In addition, low-income residents of the congestion zone who make less than $60,000 a year can apply for a state tax credit.

All drivers entering the zone directly from four tolled tunnels — the Lincoln, Holland, Hugh L. Carey and Queens-Midtown — will receive a “crossing credit” that will be applied against the daytime toll. The credit will be $5 round-trip for passenger vehicles, $12 for small trucks and intercity and charter buses, $20 for large trucks and tour buses, and $2.50 for motorcycles. No credits will be offered at night.
