This has also increased the lifespan of human beings, and they keep healthy and fit in their old age as well. This is a miracle that wasn’t possible without the contribution of doctors.

If I were a doctor, I would first take the oath of fulfilling my duty and responsibility as a doctor in the right manner. I would do my work with full dedication and honesty. There were so many people who died during COVID because of not getting treatment. There was a lack of doctors and nurses in the hospitals. I would have isolated myself from my family and treated the patients by staying at the hospital only. I would have spread awareness among the people regarding the cause of the spread of coronavirus and told them how they could save themselves.

If I were a doctor, I would recommend people opt for a healthy lifestyle. I would motivate them to do daily yoga and exercise for at least 30 minutes. People should devote themselves to physical exercise if they want to stay healthy and fit. They should eat healthy food and follow a properly balanced diet. I would organise awareness campaigns related to the consumption of alcohol, tobacco, cigarettes, drugs etc. and educate people regarding their harmful effects.

My Mother

10 Lines on My Mother in English

If I Were a Doctor Essay in English

If I Were a Doctor Essay in English , My mother is a doctor and every year she visits rural areas to offer healthcare to people living there. When I was ten years old my mother took me along with her to a village. There I saw people suffering from different types of health conditions. For one month my mother was there to educate people about cleanliness and to provide them with medical care. My visit to that village was an eye-opener for me.

I saw thousands of people suffering. In that village people used to village small clinics to seek medical help. There was just one doctor and a couple of nurses for thousands of people. The village does not even have proper management. Sick was lying on the ground outside that clinic open in the sun. There were also children who needed help.

That sight was heartbreaking and it put a huge impact on my little mind.  I have all the memories fresh now in my mind. I know my country is advancing. I know the government is doing so much for the people living in villages but being a citizen of India I also want to help my fellow citizen. That day I decided that I am going to become a doctor like myself and I am going to open a proper hospital in the areas where it is required the most.

if i were a doctor essay in english

Essay on If I Were a Doctor

I don’t want to be a doctor because my mother is in the profession. I want to take the doctor’s pledge because there are many areas in India where people have nil hospital facilities. People are uneducated and they live a very simple life. They don’t know anything about good nutritious food or the importance of hygiene in life.

There are many areas in our country that need desperate help. There is no other profession than a doctor in today’s world where people are dying from a disease that can be easily cured. The problem is they are not getting timely help. There are many villages in India where there are no roads or medical help is miles away.

Many women in India die while giving birth to a child because of the lack of medical facilities and doctors in that area. This is a serious issue because every life is important. In 2022 when people are living lavish lives in urban areas people in rural areas are dying in their dwellings.

Being a doctor is a very Nobel profession and doctors are no less than god. We need more doctors in villages than in cities.  In cities, we have hundreds of hospitals and thousands of clinics. There is a clinic on every street. Is this fair to other people?

I Am a Doctor Essay

If I were a doctor I would have the power to raise this question and ask for help from the government and fellow citizens. There are many nonprofit organizations working for people in villages but this is not enough. We need more doctors and medical practitioners in these areas. I would have done everything in my power to provide help to these people.  No one should die this way and I would have been able to save many lives.

What can be more beautiful than saving lives and giving good news to their relatives that their beloved is going to live? Many mothers in villages lose their lives due to a lack of medical treatment. Many infants lose their mothers while giving birth to them which is heart-wrenching. They don’t have enough time to reach hospitals or clinics which are miles away from their villages. They have traditional methods to ease their pain but they are also dangerous. These people have no other way to get medical assistance.

If I were a doctor I would have never stopped helping people. I know the job of a doctor is not easy especially when they are working in rural areas. I have seen my mother working day and night for people and I am proud of her. People in the villages used to touch her feet for saving them from the pain and discomfort they were facing from illness. They used to bless her for her deeds. This is very beautiful for a child to see for their parents.

Everything I have seen and felt inspires me to become a doctor. From that experience, I always think if I were a doctor I would have done more and more. I don’t wish to stop no matter what happens. In villages, people live simply.

They don’t have money to seek medical help from big hospital facilities. This is also one reason many people die due to sickness. If I were a doctor I would have opened charities and created a huge network of volunteers so that altogether we can provide help to these people.

Not only villages but also in metro cities like Maharashtra has huge slum area. People there are facing the same issues. They live in unhygienic conditions. They die due to malaria, dengue, and illness that can be treated if they would have help from people who are a fortunate.

The problem with humanity is that it is selfish.  No one cares for other life. We need to change this.  I would have created awareness about good health and hygienic conditions. People listen to those who offer help and this is how we can help the world.

Hospitals are corrupt these days. They are making money from dead bodies. They handle you with hefty bills for even regular treatments. I would have done the opposite to it. My hospital is going to be just for the deprived and poor. I know that there are huge responsibilities on the shoulders of a doctor.

They have to go through a huge amount of stress dealing with sick and angry relatives. According to me, every pain is worth it when there is another life at stake in front of you. If I were a doctor I would have helped as many people as I could and one day I am going to fulfill my goals.

If I Were A Doctor (Essay Sample)

More than 2,000 diseases have been determined and classified by the World Health Organization (WHO). Because of many sick people suffering, I imagine myself as a doctor and what should I do as one. However, being a doctor has its difficulties, especially in rural communities where health beliefs contradict with or are different from medical practitioners. If I were a doctor, I will ensure that I am sensitive and responsive to the cultural beliefs of my patients, update myself with the latest in the field by reading journals every day, and provide my service for free to the needy.

As a doctor, I will be aware of and respond to the cultural beliefs of my patients. In order to become an effective healer, I must know who my patients are: what they think about their disease, its origins, and its treatment options. For instance, if I keep on insisting that they are wrong about their suffering being caused by an “evil witch” but if that is what they truly believe in, then they will also not follow my advice regarding drinking their medicine. On the contrary, if I listen to what they say about this “witch” and how it affects them mentally before I provide the medical prescription, they will be more open about what they do on a daily basis and I can even diagnose the possible causes or conditions of their disease with greater precision. Furthermore, by intently listening to their cultural beliefs and practices, I can also learn from their treatment modes. Many kinds of medicines come from natural substances after all. However, if I surmised that their local “treatment” is doing them more harm than good, I should find culturally-sensitive ways of inserting my medical beliefs into their ideology. In other words, I will not impose what I think is right because I want them to blindly accept the superiority of my worldview but to add my advice to what is existing in their mind if they are unprepared of complete mental changes. Hopefully, in time, they can alter their health beliefs and avoid activities that injure them.

If I were a doctor, I would also become a regular journal reader and applier of updated knowledge. Some medical professionals forget to increase their knowledge and become stuck on “old” beliefs and practices instead. Health technologies and information develop rapidly and doctors have to keep up or lose their effectiveness. Now, if the studies have mixed findings, I would have to verify with my own experience what works best in particular conditions and with specific patients. With time and energy, I may even contribute to existing research by sending in my comments and scientific studies to peer-reviewed journals. I would like to be active in writing as well to present my take and decrease literature gaps in my field.

Finally, since I will be accepting people without enough income as my patients, I will serve them for free. Doctors get free medicine and other materials from pharmaceutical companies; I will use these freebies and give them to the poor. Many low-income people can do much better in life if they can have free medical services. Since health care is not free in many nations, I would offer my services without payment to those lacking financial resources. I will gladly accept payment in kind as well if they will provide it because I want them to also feel their financial independence and that they can pay for the services they need. In time, with access to doctors, the poor should be able to improve their health and prevent the spread or progression of their diseases.

A doctor has the power to heal and but also conduct multiple responsibilities. To their patients, they must be respectful and open-minded and to themselves, as practitioners, they should be knowledgeable of the latest breakthroughs in information and technology. If I were a doctor, I will go beyond what is “minimum” and become the best one possible- a doctor with an agile, growing mind and a beating, empathetic heart.

500+ words essay on doctor.

Doctors all over the world are given the stature next to God. It happens so mostly because they are lifesavers who work tirelessly for mankind. Moreover, being a doctor is considered one of the most sought-after professions. People want their kids to become doctors and they instill this dream in them from an early age.

Essay on Doctor

Doctors have a very noble profession. In addition, they are equipped with comprehensive knowledge and devices that enable them to diagnose and treat their patients with correct procedures. Doctors require medical staffs that help them in performing their treatment. They are very proficient and have proved their importance time and again for mankind.

The Medical Scenario of India

The medical scenario in India is renowned all over the world. The doctors originating from India are reaching new heights globally abroad. However, when we talk about the medical scenario within the country, we see how it’s quite worrying.

In other words, all capable and talented doctors are moving abroad in search of better job opportunities and facilities. Therefore, we see there is a lack of doctors in the country to cater to the ever-growing population.

But if we see on the bright side, we will notice how Indian doctors are very charitable in comparison to doctors of other countries. As India has been a country of tradition, the qualities are deeply rooted in our culture. This reflects in the medical scenario of the country as well.

The Degradation of Doctors

Although the medical field is evolving, there are still immoral practices in the field which makes it tough for patients to get the right treatment. Corruption has not spared this field as well.

India suffers from a high illiteracy rate which results in people fooling the citizens for money. There are many wrongs and unethical medical practices prevalent in India which brings a bad name to the country.

Moreover, the greed for money has resulted in various losses of lives of patients. The hospitals diagnose the patients wrongly and give them the wrong treatment. This results in even more worse results. The public is losing its faith in the medical field and its doctors.

As a result, this impacts the reputation of the medical field. Doctors must be more responsible and vigilant with the lives of their patients. The government must provide the public with good medical facilities which can bridge this gap. In addition, we must also come together to help doctors do their job better.

If I Were a Doctor

For a sick person, a doctor is a God on earth. The very presence of doctor instills immense confidence in a patient. But, today doctors are found to be indifferent to their patients.

However, we find then inhumane these days. How could patients look up to them as the incarnations of God! I feel that the general image of doctors has taken a beating in the eyes of general public the public has realized much to dismay that doctors are now only interested in minting money and have lost the real touch with the fellow human beings and the humane life.

It is true that individuals have become money-spinning machines, but the doctors who once represented God should have stayed out of the melee. This has not happened vilifying the avocation as any other profession. If I were a doctor, I would try to recover the lost image of doctors, at the outset. My prime objective shall remain identifying myself with the host of patients.

This could mobilize me behave humanely with them. Next, instead of keeping an eye on the amount of money spent for the treatment, I shall try to cure the patient fully without bothering how much had been paid for the service.

I would also take money and lots of which from the very rich, and then treat the poor patients free. With this balancing act, I think I would be able to earn enough money to maintain my life and family and earn a sea of goodwill in return, from the appreciable mass of poor. I would earn, besides money, love, respect, and the unflinching reverence. Thus, contrary to what doctors could earn these days, about heaps of money, I would earn love and respect in such heaps. With this attitude, I am sure I could bring back the angel status of doctors.

Paragraph on “If I were a Doctor”

essay if i were a doctor

The profession of a Doctor is the most noble and respected one. They do a great service to the society.

A life gets saved by their hands. They take a lot of effort to cure us from various ailments and to keep us healthy and fit.

If I were to be a doctor, I would first take an oath that I would do my duties and take up my responsibilities as a doctor in a right manner. Being a doctor involves lots of risk and responsibilities too. I may have to face situations that may appear scary, but I would have to stay calm and take the right decisions.

If I were to be a doctor, I would make sure that I would treat people with sincerity and make sure that every patient deserves the right to have a good medication. People who cannot afford treatment, will be treated well by me in the best possible way and save their lives. I will not work for money, as money will be secondary. It is my responsibility to save a life and I should be doing it with due respect.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

People spend so much money to educate their children who are not at all interested in this profession but have passion for something else, to become a doctor. If I were a doctor, I would try to convince parents that this profession has to be done with passion and love, otherwise no doctor could do justice to the patient that comes to him. It is a life that a doctor is tackling with and it has to be done with love, care and passion, then only the benefits would be seen, otherwise it becomes more or less like a business, which could get dangerous.

Doctors are next to God, when it comes to treat illness and bring back life. A good doctor is a blessing not only for himself, but to the society as well, and that is what I would love to be, if I were a doctor.

If I Were a Doctor

A doctor is perhaps the most useful member of the society. He is an angel for his patients as he draws them out of the jaws of death. He works with a missionary zeal and sacrifices his comforts to the service of mankind. Even at odd hours he is prepared to attend to the patients. His mission is to restore his patients’ health. He reinvokes in his patients a desire to live and live healthy and purposefully. Such doctors are few and far between.

If I become a doctor, I will never ignore or forget the oath I undertook to serve ailing human beings to the best of my ability selflessly and without any ulterior purpose. To be so will minimize my wants. This will prevent me from making my profession a money-minting machine. My fees will be moderate and the poor will be treated free of charge. When I have no lure for money I will be able to imbibe the qualities of sympathy, kindness and love and make them an integral part of my personality. For home visits I will not charge more.

I will try to make every season healthy. My stress will be on prevention. I will teach people hygiene and sanitation and use of certain medicines as first aid. I will remain true to my profession and will not recommend medicines that guarantee a good commission for me. I will respect the tests done by the established laboratories and will not ask my patients to undergo tests again and that too from the particular labs.

I will keep my desire to learn and amass new knowledge alive and will remain a student all my life. I will have update knowledge.

I will not issue false medical certificate to people. Moreover, I will not keep the relatives of the sick in darkness and tell them the real condition of the sick.

I pray to God to give me strength enough to follow the ideals set by myself.

It was a good essay but there’s a problem there. Why you have taken ‘he’ as a pronoun for doctors? I mean there are so much successful female doctors present out there. Maybe you’ve done it by mistake. Hope it’s the only matter.

' src=

The essay is fantastic 😍. But I wouldn’t say I like it because you only used male pronouns to complete the essay. You should use both like he/she is an angel to their patients.

' src=

This is to good at all and I wouldn’t ask you that the female also have power to become a doctor Thank you

' src=

The essay is best.

यदि मैं डॉक्टर होता – निबंध Essay on if I were a doctor in Hindi

यदि मैं डॉक्टर होता - निबंध Essay on if I were a doctor in Hindi

Essay on if I were a doctor in Hindi , से प्रेरणा मिली होगी।

Would someone to come to my home to replace a broken alternator? | Car Doctor

Q: can i get a repair person to come to my apartment garage and replace a broken alternator.

A: If you are asking if AAA has mobile repair, no, we do not.

AAA will replace a battery and test the alternator and starter but will not replace an alternator.

I have seen some mobile mechanics over the years, but usually the repairs are limited. In fact, the town I live in has one, and they tend to focus on routine maintenance service and brakes.

Depending on the vehicle, an alternator could be easy to replace or take several hours, depending on its location. As an example, a 10-year-old Honda Accord may take 30 minutes to replace the alternator while a 10-year-old Hyundai Sonata could take two hours, due to the part's location.

If you are a AAA member, you could have the car towed to a local AAA-approved auto repair shop. To find a shop near you, go to aaa.com/repair .

What is causing Dodge Caliber to go into 'limp mode'?

Q: I have a 2010 Dodge Caliber that would go into limp mode and have no power. This has happened several times. I never know when or if it would just stop completely and leave me stranded. I had this checked for codes four or five times, but no codes were displayed. I was told that when it stops running, they would find the problem. I had to stop using this car, because I couldn’t wait until it stopped on the road. What do you think of all of this?

A: Limp mode is a type of safety system that allows the car to run and drive at a limited speed to protect the drivetrain from further damage until it can be repaired. Sometimes – and probably in the case of your car – shutting the engine off and restarting it clears the glitch and returns the systems to normal.

Regarding the lack of codes, are you checking the codes with a scanner or are you checking for codes by flashing the key on and off? A scan tool, not just a generic code reader, may give you more insight into the problem.

One common reason these cars go into limp mode is because the transmission starts to overheat. Other possibilities are faulty sensors, low fluid levels and poor electrical connections. Poor electrical connections at the fuse box due to corrosion are also quite common.

How many silver Corvettes with claret interior were made in 1980?

Q: I have a 1980 silver Corvette with a claret cloth interior. I know, in 1980, 4,341 were made in silver and only 1,338 with claret cloth out of the 40,614 in total. You seem to have all the answers. Can you please tell me specifically how many silver Corvettes with a claret cloth interior were made that year?

A: Well, I am sorry to say I am not much help on this. I would try the national Corvette Museum. The museum has an archives division and, according to the website, Betty Hardison is the library and archives coordinator at the museum in Bowling Green Kentucky. Readers, any other suggestions?

How complicated is replacing the headlight bulb on Lexus SC 430?

Q: I thought it was going to be easy to replace the headlight bulb on my 2006 Lexus SC 430. Just open the hood, pull the power cable off the back of the bulb, turn the old bulb to match up the slots (remembering to not touch the bulb end with my fingers) slip in the new bulb and close the hood. Then, I opened the hood and looked where the actual bulb was located. It looks as if I may have to dismantle a good part of the engine compartment to get at the faulty bulb. Is there an easier way to do this switch, or is it just the way they made the car?

A: The short answer is no. Your luxury car uses a HID or Xenon headlight, which is very expensive. The repair procedure is as follows: disconnect the battery, remove the radiator grill, remove the front fender liner, then remove the front bumper cover (have spare clips on hand) and now remove the headlamp unit, remove the two bolts, nuts and clips and disconnect the electrical connections.

'You're doing very well on Jeopardy!': Milwaukee ER doctor Amy Hummel wins for the second time

essay if i were a doctor

Twenty-five. That's how many clues Amy Hummel answered correctly Thursday to win "Jeopardy!" for the second time.

On Thursday's episode, the Milwaukee ER doctor added $18,795 to her winnings, making her two-day total $37,695. On Wednesday's show , she had gotten 21 total clues right and won $18,900.

Hummel will be the returning champion again Friday.

Here's a look at the many questions Hummel got right, what we learned about her and how Final "Jeopardy!" shook out. Plus, how to tune in:

What we learned about Amy Hummel during the show

"Amy Hummel is an ER from Milwaukee who is apparently a very skilled driver," host Ken Jennings said. "Tell us about learning how to drive stick."

After returning home from college, Hummel had two days to get to Cincinnati for the summer job she had lined up.

"Parents — very generously — are like, 'Hey, you can take the family car with you so you have a car in Cincinnati," Hummel said. "But, we got a new one and it has a stick shift."

The only problem: Hummel didn't know how to drive manual. Despite "a lot of tears" and stalling on hills, Hummel and the vehicle made it to Cincinnati.

"That poor clutch and that poor you," Jennings said. "But, you both survived."

"We did," Hummel said.

"Well done. You're doing very well on 'Jeopardy!'" Jennings said.

Here's what we learned about Hummel on the previous day's episode.

Who Amy Hummel competed against on April 25's episode of 'Jeopardy!'

Tyler Jarvis, a Portales, New Mexico, researcher and Ph.D. student, and Justin Brandt, a West Hills, California, attorney.

What Amy Hummel answered correctly during the 'Jeopardy!' Round

Clue: "Rectangular 9-volt batteries used to be called this kind. For the newfangled components inside the little radios they powered."

Hummel: "What are transistor batteries?"

Clue: "One of these with hidden pictures or treats typically begins on December 1 and helps kids count down to Christmas."

Hummel : "What is an advent calendar?"

Clue: "A 2019 book recounts 'Pickett's charge and' this: 'The history and legacy of the 19th century's most famous doomed assaults.'"

Hummel: "What is the "The Charge of the Light Brigade?"

Clue: "The Gerald R. Ford one of these cost $13 billion to build and is more than three football fields long."

Hummel: "What is an aircraft carrier?"

Clue: "It was No. 2 for males, or should we say, 'There went in two and two unto' this name 'as God hand commanded.'"

Hummel: "What is Noah?"

Clue: "Maybe acting is in the future for kids with this name, No. 1 for males; At least it was for Mr. Hemsworth and Mr. Cunningham."

Hummel: "What is Liam?"

Clue: "This 1954 musical centers on a septet of backwoods siblings intent on finding mates."

Hummel: "What is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers?"

Hummel: "Who is Alan Cumming?"

Clue: "Part of a trio, the Wu and Qutang."

Hummel: "What is China?"

Clue: "The Avon and Cheddar Gorges."

Hummel: "What is the U.K."

Jennings asked Hummel to be more specific. She correctly answered: "England. What is England?"

What Amy Hummel answered incorrectly during the 'Jeopardy!' Round

Clue: "In 1856, South Carolina's Preston Brooks used a cane to assault Charles Sumner of Massachusetts in the capital's soon-to-be-replaced old this chamber."

Hummel: "What is House chamber?" That was incorrect. Contestant Brandt provided the right answer of: "What is the Senate chamber?"

Clue: "Olduvai Gorge."

Hummel: "What is Spain?" That was wrong. The other contestants didn't give an answer, so Jennings told them it was "Tanzania."

These were the standings at the end of the 'Jeopardy!' Round

  • Jarvis: $6,200
  • Hummel: $5,800
  • Brandt: $800

What Amy Hummel answered correctly during the Double 'Jeopardy!' Round

Clue: "Opened in 1932, one of its missions is 'to advance understanding and appreciation of Shakespeare's writings."

Hummel: "What is the Folger Shakespeare Library?'

Clue: "Here's a flash -- fulgurous means emitting this atmospheric phenomenon or resembling it."

Hummel: "What is lightning?"

Clue: "Oxi Day, or day of No, is celebrated by Greeks on October 28, the day in 1940 when they said no to this Italian's demands."

Hummel: "Who is Mussolini?"

Clue: "It can mean 'Hits hard and loudly' or 'suggests,' as in 'his email ___ of desperation."

Hummel: "What is smacks?"

Hummel: "What is paprika?"

Clue: "After a disaster of a cruise, the title teen of this Yann Martel novel spends 227 days lost at sea with a rough crew indeed."

Hummel: "What is 'Life of Pi?'"

This was a Daily Double. Hummel wagered $2,000 of her $11,200:

Clue: "Under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles of 1768, the Genoese ceded this island to the French."

Hummel: "What is Corsica?"

Clue: "The name of this political club of the French Revolution refers to the Dominican monastery where members met."

Hummel: "What is the Jacobin Club?"

Clue: "Lots of drama as his majesty's sloop Sophie is getting a new captain in this first Jack Aubrey novel."

Hummel: "What is Master and Commander?"

Clue: "In 1834 the first Baptist church opened in D.C.; It was later reconfigured as this infamous theater."

Hummel: "What is Ford's Theatre?"

Clue: "Theodore Roosevelt Island is one of many in this river that separates Washington D.C. from Virginia."

Hummel: "What is the Potomac?"

Clue: "The naval part of this lengthy war got started with an English victory over France at Sluys in 1340."

Hummel: "What is the Hundred Years' War?"

What Amy Hummel answered incorrectly during the Double 'Jeopardy!' Round

When Hummel chose the category "Vocabulary" for $2,000 during the Double "Jeopardy!" Round, she hit a Daily Double. She wagered $3,000 of her $7,800.

The clue Jennings read: "Italian gives us this word for an outline of what could happen, also an old word for screenplay."

An unsure Hummel answered: "What is a schema?"

"No, I'm sorry. You're on the right track," Jennings told her.

The correct answer was a "scenario."

Note: Time ended up running out during the Double "Jeopardy!" Round with four clues left on the board.

These were the standings at the end of the Double 'Jeopardy!' Round

  • Hummel: $18,800
  • Jarvis: $8,600
  • Brandt: $2,000

What happened in Final 'Jeopardy!'

The Final "Jeopardy!" clue was: "The 42-foot-high statue of Athena in this state capital is the tallest indoor statue in the United States."

None of the contestants got it right.

While Brandt incorrectly answered "What is Juneau?" he had wagered $0.

Jarvis was in the process of writing "What is Little Rock," but that also would've been wrong. Having wagered $4,599, his total dropped to $4,001.

Hummel — who had a five-figure lead going into the final — answered "What is Springfield?" While that was incorrect, she only wagered $5.

The correct answer was Nashville, where there's a replica of the Parthenon.

How to watch Amy Hummel on 'Jeopardy!'

Hummel will be the returning champion on Friday's episode of "Jeopardy!" The episode will air on WDJT CBS58 Milwaukee at 6 p.m. CT.

She'll be taking on Dan Byrne, a consultant from Lilburn, Georgia, and Matt Mawhinney, a democracy entrepreneur from Fort Lauderdale.

I’m a Young Conservative, and I Want My Party to Lead the Fight Against Climate Change

An illustration of a donkey and elephant hugging in a meadow beneath a tree.

By Benji Backer

Mr. Backer is the founder and executive chairman of the American Conservation Coalition.

Conservatives were once America’s environmental champions. Not that long ago, Republican presidents were carrying out the Clean Air and Water Acts, creating the Environmental Protection Agency, expanding the National Park System and even initiating the country’s most authoritative report on climate change, the National Climate Assessment.

But times have changed.

Many of today’s Republican leaders stoke fear and anger by mocking the most divisive climate activists while claiming that every environmental solution is a radical one. If they’re not doing that, Republicans can often be found on the sidelines and disengaged from the issue completely.

Instead of continuing the environmental legacy they were once known for, they have ceded the fight against climate change to Democrats, putting themselves on the wrong side of history. Not a single Republican voted in 2022 for the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill that is funneling hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funds to red states and blue states alike for climate mitigation and resilience projects. And it has cost them: A recent working paper from the University of Colorado, Boulder, found that opinion on climate change was one of the strongest predictors of whom independents voted for in 2020, probably giving President Biden enough of an edge to tip the election in his favor. In other words, Donald Trump’s denial of climate change probably cost him the White House.

The Democratic Party has also alienated voters with calls for an immediate transition from fossil fuels and with the Green New Deal’s top-down, one-size-fits-all approach. For someone like me who grew up surrounded by farmland, the Democratic messaging on climate has felt elitist, condescending and out of touch with a large portion of America’s needs. When Gov. Gavin Newsom of California essentially forces people in his state to purchase electric vehicles by ordering that new gasoline-powered cars be banned within 15 years or Mr. Biden suggests that coal workers “ learn how to program, ” it can feel as though people’s day-to-day realities are completely cast aside.

The fact of the matter is this: We cannot address climate change or solve any other environmental issue without the buy-in and leadership of conservative America. And there are clear opportunities for climate action that conservatives can champion without sacrificing core values, from sustainable agriculture to nuclear energy and the onshoring of clean energy production.

In my visits to communities from Texas oil country to the South Side of Chicago to cattle ranches in Wyoming, I’ve seen how it’s possible to bridge the divide. Conservatives might have disengaged from the issues over the past several decades, but voters often tell me they’re ready to jump back into the conversation. After all, as farmers, ranchers, foresters or just people who enjoy hunting and fishing, many conservatives have a stake in the health of their environment.

What they’re eager for are solutions that work for them.

In Orangeville, Utah, I recently met with coal workers looking for new ways to utilize coal instead of burning it. This small community, surrounded by one of Utah’s beautiful mountain ranges, expressed genuine pride in exploring options to improve its local air quality and the global climate. People also knew their example could help other coal-reliant communities dealing with the same economic hardships. Showing voters these kinds of examples is far more effective than telling them to “learn to program.”

Liberals often point out that the Republican Party’s ties to the fossil fuel industry have prevented a shift toward climate action, and while it’s true the industry has a history of obstructing climate policy and supporting many Republican elected officials, it’s a bit more complicated than that. Conservative politicians tell me they just don’t want their constituents to have their oil and gas jobs ripped from them. But now that many fossil fuel companies are pursuing climate action faster than the Republican Party, it’s clear there may be a way to keep those jobs while reducing emissions.

I’m hopeful that the party can do more to lead on these issues. Over the past seven years, I’ve met with over 100 Republican federal lawmakers who want to fight climate change. Many still refrain from saying it out loud (fearing their base will turn against them), but some have begun to speak out publicly. The Conservative Climate Caucus is now one of the largest in the House, with nearly 100 members. Republicans also helped pass the Growing Climate Solutions Act , a 2021 law that incentivizes farmers, ranchers and foresters to reduce their emissions with tax credits through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

As a member of Gen Z, I believe it’s time for my generation to mobilize around climate solutions that bring both sides to the table — and demand our leaders do the same. Liberals must stop denigrating and abandoning key communities they need to solve the problem, and conservatives must stop denying the problem and take ownership of climate solutions. If the Republican Party wants to expand its coalition, it will need to recruit young voters with a far more pragmatic message.

This environmental movement will look slightly different from what the Democrats have built. We firmly believe fossil fuels must be part of our transition to cleaner energy sources for years to come. So our movement will aim to improve the environmental impact of all energy sources, not just wind and solar. We’ll also focus on ecosystem restoration and other conservation measures that lower emissions. And we’ll call on policymakers to prioritize permitting reform, reducing government overreach and making it easier to build clean energy projects in the United States more quickly.

We share the effects of climate change and environmental degradation equally across political parties. But until conservatives join in this conversation, much of the country’s ideas, needs and contributions will be missing from the dialogue.
