A visit to the Zoo is always very interesting. Last Sunday I went to the Delhi Zoo with my friends. First of all we saw apes and monkeys in different cages. They were climbing up and down their cage. In other cages, tigers, lions, bears, foxes, wolves, and zebras were kept.

We also saw deer and kangaroos. Next, we saw many varieties of birds like cranes, ducks, pigeons, parrots, kingfishers, owls, etc. We also saw our national bird peacock in the zoo. Then we came to the glass houses. Animals of different kinds and colour were kept in them. At last, we enjoyed an elephant ride and returned home.

Last Sunday, I visited a zoo with my family. First, we went round the bird’s section. We saw parrots, sparrows, pigeons, peacocks, eagles, and vultures. Then we saw the cages of wild animals like tigers, lions, and leopards. A lion was walking up and down restlessly. It often roared furiously. The baby tigers were playing in their cage.

We saw the deer park, where only the deer were kept. We also saw zebras, bears, foxes, giraffes, a hippo, and a rhino. Then we went to the huge enclosure where the elephants were kept. They were eating grasses, leaves, and bananas. We enjoyed watching the monkeys.

We saw serpents, pythons, and cobras. Next, we saw many swans and ducks swimming gracefully in a big pool of water. The crocodiles lay Lazily near the water. We also saw a tank which contained small fishes of fine colours. We had a great fun at the zoo.

A zoo is a place where animals and birds are kept for public display. We, the three friends, went to the Alipore Zoo, Kolkata. We saw two elephants, tied with iron chains by their hind legs. The visitors offered them bananas or nuts which they gladly accepted and swallowed. We were greatly amused to see the huge animals from so near.

Then we visited the bird’s section. There were hundreds of birds. They were of various colours and had lovely plumage (feathers). Their chirping produced soft music. The twittering of sparrows was very pleasant to the ear. At some distance, there was a big pool of water. Many ducks and swans were swimming gracefully in it. We also saw a tank which contained small fishes of fine colours.

Then we came to the cages of tigers, panthers, leopards and lions. They were wonderful. The serpent house gave us a new experience. We saw there various types of snakes on the first floor. Then we saw the bisons, the camels, the ostriches and the bats. The zebras and giraffes were really beautiful who looked innocent and friendly.

It was about 2 P.M when we had taken some light refreshment in the zoo canteen. In this way, we passed the day with much delight and acquired a wonderful experience.

A Visit To A Zoo is very thrilling. I went to see the zoo with my younger brother. One is surprised to see such a variety of animals and birds. It was an interesting sight. First of all, we saw the monkeys. They were of many kinds and very amusing. We offered some nuts to them.

Then we came to the lions. They looked very fierce and majestic. They were kept in an open place enclosed with high iron railings. Sometimes they roared terribly. Next, we saw the tigers. They had yellow skins with black stripes on them. In the next two cages, there were a wolf and a fox. The wolf was sleeping, but the fox was walking within the cage.

Then we saw the long-necked giraffe, the dark-striped zebra, the thick-skinned rhinoceros, and a huge elephant with beautiful ivory tusks. We were very pleased to see them. After this, we came to the glass houses where reptiles were kept. There were snakes, cobras, and serpents. Some of them looked fearful. We did not stay there long.

Then we came to the fences where peacocks were kept. It was a treat to see one of them in his pride (i.e. with his tail spread like a fan).

We stayed three for three hours. We were tired. At last, we went to the cafe and had some refreshment and tea. Then we returned home. We enjoyed our visit very much.

Introduction:.

Everyone needs relaxation and an occasional deviation from the drudgeries of daily existence. A visit to a zoo can offer him these. At the same time, it is a learning experience. It was with this intention that visited the Alipore Zoological Garden last 25th December with some of my friends. This visit was memorable because it was both enjoyable and educational.

Entering the Zoo:

We reached the gate of the zoo in a taxi around 10 am. One has to buy tickets to enter the zoo. A number of visitors were already standing in a queue before the ticket counter. We stood behind them, got our tickets and entered the big arena of the zoo.

Various Types of Birds and Animals:

We crossed the green sward and were greeted by varieties of monkeys in cages. Monkeys and baboons were jumping on the trees within their enclosures. When some people threw food at them, they immediately jumped down from the trees to eat. Some children were making faces at them.

Then, we came across a beautiful lake in which some water birds like ducks and swans were present. There were some migratory birds as well. As we moved, we came to the big netted enclosure in which birds were kept. There were sparrows, parrots, and many other birds. Most of them were twittering, chirping and whistling. But the owls were sitting with their eyes closed as if they were lost in deep thought. The chirping of the birds went on ringing deep in my heart. In their songs, I heard the voice of nature to which the whole universe surrendered. I felt that all was right with the world.

We visited the tigers, lions, zebras, giraffes, rhinos and elephants. Roars of the lions and the tigers were deafening. We found a tiger pacing restlessly with its bloodshot eyes. It was strongly built.

Then we came across a garden in which stags and deer were frisking about. These animals were very agile and beautiful.

Our next halt was at the aquarium section. There were fishes of many species and colours. To see them swimming to and fro in the water was really a rewarding experience. Just beside this enclosure, was the cage of a black bear. It attracted a mammoth gathering. The bear was playing many tricks that thrilled us. Some people offered it eatables which it gulped at once.

Leaving the Zoo:

At about 2 pm, feeling tired, we rested and relaxed on the grassy ground for half an hour. The fragrance of flowers coming from somewhere was really soothing. We again began to stroll around the zoo after having our lunch. We saw a variety of amphibians like crocodiles, snakes, frogs, and a variety of other creatures. Then we hired a boat and enjoyed a short pleasurable ride in the canal. It was around 5 pm when we came out of the zoo. We boarded a bus, casting our last and lingering look on the zoo.

Conclusion:

I reached home in a cheerful mood. This visit refreshed my mind and deepened my awareness of the animal world.

The maintenance of a zoo is a huge task. Animals, birds, reptiles, and fishes, from foreign lands with different climatic conditions are to be kept in such surroundings, climate, and temperature that matches that of their natural habitat. If that arrangement is not done properly these animals would not survive. In hot summers, tigers and lions require access to water to keep cool. A gorilla or chimpanzee requires trees and lush green areas to roam.

All these animals also need to be fed according to their original tastes and appetites. A leopard, a lion, or a tiger has to be served its due quantity of raw meat for every meal. A gorilla or a monkey should be served a vegetarian diet. There are some animals that are to be fed with fish. The python is capable of devouring a whole goat and so, it should be fed accordingly, without harming any other living being around it.

Going to the zoo is not just enjoyable; it's a great way to learn. Zoos teach us a ton about how different animals live and what they like. To make sure the animals stay healthy, the zoo has its own medical team and animal doctors. These doctors are well-trained and really good at their job. Animals at the zoo can get sick, and if their illnesses spread, it could be really bad for the whole zoo. Sometimes, the animals even need big surgeries and treatments to get better. So, keeping everything in good shape is really important at a zoo.

We visitors, at times, cause a great deal of risk to the lives of these animals and birds. Out of excitement, to feed the animals, we throw food in plastic bags to the animals inside their cages. The animals tend to swallow the plastic bags along with the food. The plastic gets stuck in their intestines and causes serious problems, and can even result in death sometimes. Along with this, to get some entertainment, the visitors sometimes risk their own lives. Out of curiosity, the visitors try playing around with wild animals, which, if triggered, can become violent.

The visitors coming to zoos, mainly children, should be properly oriented and refrain from such activities. The zoo authorities also have to take care of the mental health of the animals. Short on a Visit to a Zoo Essay

Last Sunday, my family and I went to the zoo. It was a sunny day and we got there at 8 am. When we arrived, there was a big crowd at the entrance. Some people were buying tickets, and others were just enjoying the nice weather and chatting.

Inside, we found a lovely lake with ducks and swans swimming around. It was pretty cool to see all those white ducks on the water. As we walked around, we came across a place with lots of birds – parrots, pigeons, eagles, and sparrows of different colors. The birds were making some enchanting music, and we stopped to enjoy it for a bit.

Next, we saw big cats like leopards, lions, tigers, and tigresses. One lion even rushed towards us, and its roars were really loud and scary. Moving on, we checked out a tiger's den. The tiger had sharp teeth and gave us a fierce look. It walked gracefully towards us, but its roar made us step back. We also saw bears and elephants. The elephants were majestic, swinging their trunks in the air, and the bears were happily playing together.

In another area, there were deer and stags taking strolls, and they were playful and beautiful. We then found a spot with baboons and monkeys in a big tree. They were jumping around, playing pranks, and some even came down for bananas. Kids were having fun making faces at them.

Later, we visited an aquarium with colorful fishes and dolphins happily playing in the water. Near the end, we saw sad polar bears in an enclosure, so we gave them some food. The black bear in another cage was doing tricks, and people were thrilled. We also checked out crocodiles, snakes like pythons and cobras, but the hissing cobras made us move away.

After going around the zoo, we sat in a garden, surrounded by the sweet smell of flowers. The calm wind made it a perfect place to relax. We enjoyed the view with some snacks and drinks. As the sun set, we left the zoo with happy memories and excitement.

Visiting a zoo makes us learn a lot many things about the various species of animals besides the fun and frolic that we have. We get to learn about the tastes and habits of so many varieties of birds, animals, reptiles, and beasts. A zoo is a place that brings us closer to the living beings that we co-exist with on this earth – the animals, birds, reptiles, insects, and so on. In the zoo I visited, you could either take a toy train that moved slowly to all the animal cages, or you could walk along the paths next to the enclosures' animal inhabitants. I chose to take the train and it was such a unique experience. It took us to each animal's location and stopped for a sufficient amount of time so we could see inside. The zoo resembled a miniature forest where the jungle animals resided. I saw a magnificent tiger walking gracefully inside its enclosure. I was ecstatic to see a bear playing with a plank of wood that zoo staff had left there. There were also various parrot species, each with stunning wings and vivid colours. I spent about an hour in close proximity to them since they were so marvellous.

I also saw a lot of different birds of various colours and textures, they were beautiful to look at. The zoo administrator allowed me to feed some of them—it was a wonderful experience. I was a bit scared at first but once they settled down around me, I felt at ease. I even petted them lightly. Afterwards, I had lunch with my parents in a cafeteria at the zoo. The food was delicious and it was all named after different animals. I’m definitely looking forward to the next time I’ll visit here, hopefully with all my friends.

It was once I visited a zoo when I was a kid. I am lucky that my family took me to the zoo. After we reached there at the entrance of the zoo, there was a ticket counter for buying the tickets.

There was a small box fixed with the counter to store the items. I was so delighted to see all the things at the zoo. It was filled with trees all round to provide fresh air to animals and oxygen to every person. I saw many types of creatures from birds to the lion to the reptiles are found in the zoo. I had so much enjoyment when I had gone there.

There I had watched all the animals and heard the sweet sound of birds and the lion’s roaring too. I saw many birds and they were looking very beautiful that were ostriches, sparrows, peacocks, pigeons, nightingale, crane, kingfisher that were having so pretty feathers. Peacock has its colorful feathers and it dances too.

Various animals are found here with natural habitat. The monkeys are naughty as they jump and climb from one tree to another. They perform various tricks and they make funny faces and children imitate them as what they do. Other animals like rhinoceros, tiger, wild bear, deer, and giraffes were also there. They were kept in big cages.

I had gone for boat riding with my father and took a ride of elephants too. There were so many trees so they provide shade so that people can sit under the tree. I sat with my mother and father and enjoy tasty sandwiches and drank water.

I saw many other children who were playing. They were swinging on a see-saw and playing ice and spy, and running everywhere. There, I saw a pond having ducks and swam swimming. There were many golden and varieties of fishes.

I had explored and was happy once I visited there. I got aware of animals and learned to share their love with animals. I was said by the person taking not to harm them or make their fun.

I had learned new things about animals, their names and in which environment they live and what they eat. There was a board with writing that, “Children keep their distance from the animals” because of a roar of a lion or noise made by any other animal could scare them badly.

The zoo was covered with many nice things on a large piece of land for fitting the big-sized and small-sized animals wherever needed. I was happy to see the families who came with their cell phones and opened the camera to click the photos with their children playing and having full fun.

After leaving the zoo, I came outside the zoo, with my family I saw there were so many small shops to buy the food to eat in case you do not take your lunch with yourself. Various thela walas were selling bhelpuri, chaat, pani puri, fast food, ice creams, samosa and much more for everyone.

The price of the food was low cost. Many people were standing near the toys stall separately for the children to buy and also the near to it was the departmental store for buying a bottle of mineral water or cold drinks to end the thirst.

There were many animals brought in the zoo from the outside world. They were adored nicely and looked after with great care. They were looking after them and feeding them properly with high nutritional food. Lastly, I was so much tired after having an adventure, playing and having a boat and elephant ride. I got back home with my parents for taking rest.

Finally, around 9 a.m., we arrived at the zoo. When we entered inside, we saw the deer running in their field. Moving forward, we saw giraffes, tigers, lions, leopards, bears, different kinds of horses, etc. We then went to the birds’ section. All types of birds were there. All of them were singing and dancing in the trees. We also saw monkeys and baboons hanging on the giant trees. In the end section of the zoo, we found a small pond full of fish. There was also a museum for aquatic animals, such as dolphins and starfish.

Coming our way back to the exit, we saw snakes and cobras swinging in their specific area. The entire zoo was decorated with flowers and was full of greenery everywhere. It was a beautiful view to watch. Around 6 p.m., we reached home safely with a heart and mind full of happy memories. Hence, the trip to the zoo was my best experience, as I learned a lot of things about animals and birds.

The zoo not only teaches you about different kinds of creatures, but it also helps you realise the importance of wildlife. Exotic animals are not taken care of properly inside the zoo. These exotic animals are brought forcefully after knowing that they cannot survive in this climate. In some zoos, preventive measures are not taken to keep the animals safe, resulting in many animal deaths, and it looks very cruel.

Zoos, no doubt, are lovely spots for children and adults. They should be funded well to help rare species from going extinct. My Experience of Visiting the Zoo

I am a nature-loving person. I think nature is incomplete without the presence of different types of animals and birds. They add beauty and liveliness to beautiful nature. I got the chance of visiting the Lucknow zoo as a part of the school trip. It is called Nawab Wazid Ali Shah Prani Udyan. I was very excited about this trip as it was going to be my first visit to a zoo. We arrived the next day at school and were ready to travel by bus with our teachers and classmates to Lucknow for our visit to the zoo. The travel was very exciting but my curiosity was at its highest level till we reached the zoo. Earlier I had seen a zoo only on television or in books. It was a very good part that we visited the zoo in winters because they move around in winters for getting the warmth of the sun. During summers the animals are not seen very active outside.

We reached there safely and were standing in a queue for getting entry in the zoo. My teachers had made the online booking of tickets. We were permitted to enter inside one by one.

Entry Point of the Zoo – The entry point has a sculpture of a giant tree with no leaves on its branches. The tree has different animals on it like monkey, peacock, bear, different birds, etc. A statue of a Lion has been built sitting in the front of the sculpture of the tree. There are also statues of Rhinoceros, zebra, and giraffe in the periphery area of the tree. This totally gives us a small representation of the inner view of the zoo. We had clicked many pictures near this entry point.

Inside View of the Zoo – The whole way directing to the inner premises of the zoo is adorned with the statues of different animals like dear, lion, bear, tiger, etc. The habitat of black dear was situated at first and it was full of many black dears roaming here and there. The information about the animal is totally provided on the board displayed outside the protected area of the particular animal. The habitat of the chimpanzee was a very interesting spot.

We saw two chimpanzees sitting and taking the warmth of the sun. The chimpanzee was making different types of faces and postures that made us laugh. They are very intelligent and were sitting in a very good pose. We stayed there for a little longer time and enjoyed the tricks of chimpanzees. Next, we saw ostriches. They were really very tall as we had seen them in the books.

There was a lane in the zoo that was had different types of birds. I was fascinated after seeing such a good collection of birds in the zoo. They were of different colors and breeds. We saw lions and tigers too. The Lion was roaring and giving a very ferocious look. Tigers were also roaming in their enclosures. They were three in numbers and we could not distinguish between males and females. We also saw three Himalayan Black bears in the zoo resting in their habitat. The white tiger looked very magnificent.

Apart from these, there is a toy train and parks with various swings meant for the children. We were in the zoo for four hours. We visited the entire zoo and were able to observe the animals closely.

Is Zoo the Place for Recreation and Learning?

The zoo is a very interesting place to be visited. We can see different types of animals in the zoo. We can also see animals that cannot be spotted anywhere other than forests like Lion, Tigers, White Tiger, Bears, etc. We can observe the behavior of the different animals very closely.

We also come to know about different new animals in the zoo that are unknown to us. After visiting a zoo we feel like spending more and more time watching the different activities of the animals in the zoo. In my opinion, the zoo is one of the best places for recreation and enjoyment with our family and friends. It also gives us information about the different species of animals and birds.

I was very happy after visiting the zoo in Lucknow. We had a great time that we spent inside the zoo. I feel like visiting the zoo again and again in my life. We must observe the animals very silently in the zoo without causing any kind of disturbance to them.

Last week I, with the students of all Classes, made a program to visit the Zoo.

We took permission from our parents and Master/Principal, who very gladly allowed it. The sportsman in charge of the school/ college was the leader of the party. He took a bus and instructed us to be present till 08.00 A.M. The whole night was spent arranging foods and other items. Before 08.00 A.M. I reached the school/college. The Sport In charge arrived with a bus and we got into it. After a while, the bus started. The bus was smoothly running on the road and we were enjoying to see them

At about 09.00 A. M. we reached the main gate of the Zoo. We if got down from the bus and the Sports In charge purchased tickets.

I After that we entered in the Zoo. There was great rush of children and women. However, we collected our Lunch Boxes, Tape Recorders and other things and kept aside. A peon was left to guard them. We walked in the Zoo and became too much delighted to see different types of birds, pea cocks and swans. When we went before the cages of tigers, one of our friends became nervous to see the tigers. We rode on the elephant. At about 13.00 o’clock, we took our lunch and rested for some time. After that, we enjoyed with the crocodiles.

The visit was too much enjoying Such entertainment makes a student fresh and delighted and we should visit different interesting! Place at least twice a year. This gives more knowledge and awar eness of such things which are not known.

Essay on A Visit to the Zoo

Last weekend, my father wanted to take us out somewhere. So we decided to go to the zoo. My mother made some sandwiches and packed some fruits. Father took his camera along, and we all left for the zoo.

Outside, it was warm and sunny. After an hour’s drive, we reached the zoo. The place was crowded. There were vendors selling balloons, caps, eatables and lot of other things.

My father bought three tickets and we all walked into the zoo. Inside we boarded a small train which took us around the park. I was so excited that I kept jumping on my seat.

As the train moved slowly around the park, we saw a lion, a white tiger, hippopotamus, deer, giraffes, mongoose, bison, wolves and hyenas.

After the train ride, we sat in a restaurant and had our lunch. While walking around the zoo, I saw boards which warned us not to feed the animals. I could not understand the reason behind it. When I asked my father about it, he explained that our food might harm the animals. He also told me that the zoo authorities take care of the animals in best possible manner.

After lunch, we left for our home though I wanted to stay back and go for the train ride again.

‘Zoo World’ offers thoughtful essays about nature, humanity | Book Talk

I n “Zoo World,” an illuminative collection of essays by Hiram College creative writing teacher Mary Quade , the common thread is the natural world as it engages with humanity and the savagery committed by each.

The first essay, “Hatch,” is the most intimate, as Quade monitors a handful of duck nests on her property. She’s named them by the location (“rototiller duck” is in her barn near a broken sump pump) and watches the progress of incubation. Some of the ducklings don’t survive and Quade concludes that sink duck likely killed four of car duck’s hatchlings. She spends more than two days trying to sustain an injured duckling that eventually dies. All of this is interspersed with breaking news of the environmental disaster of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Quade write of her visits to Vietnam and Cambodia, where she sees pathetic animals in markets and zoos and where she and her husband feast on pho, crab and papaya.

The decline in the numbers of monarch butterflies and the dreadful story of a series of early expeditions to the Galápagos to collect specimens are examples of the ways in which people fail as custodians of the Earth.

“Steel,” a sharp detour, is a nightmarish swirl of references to Eliot Ness and the 1930s Torso Murders with Cleveland labor history, Superman and local serial killers.

“Zoo World” (208 pages, softcover) costs $21.95 from Ohio State University Press . Some of the essays were previously published. Quade also is the author of two poetry collections.

‘Long and Winding Phone’

Janice Mitchell, author of “My Ticket to Ride: How I Ran Away to England to Meet the Beatles and Got Rock and Roll Banned in England (a True Story from 1964),” tells of her secret trip from Cleveland Heights to London,

“The Long and Winding Phone” (130 pages, softcover) costs $20 from online retailers. Marketti writes for LifeStyles and North Coast Voice magazines, which previously published some of the essays in the book.

Going to the zoo? An area resident has created a way to help families enjoy their visit

For many families, a trip to the zoo is a classic summer activity. An area resident has come up with an app, free through early June, for another way for families to enjoy their trip.

Ron Borkowicz of Appleton, who has worked in health and wellness for most of his career, has a penchant for coming up with new inventions. He's created exercise and physical therapy equipment as well as wellness training courses for businesses and schools.

The Photo Fun Safaris app, a scavenger hunt app for zoos, is his retirement project, Borkowicz said. He came up with the idea of making the app partly to get kids and their families "outside doing something physical" and partly because apps for zoos was a gap he saw in the market.

To make the app, Borkowicz said he spent several years interviewing zoo directors and marketers and app developers. He then designed the app and hired a developer to help bring the app to life.

With this developer, he's made several versions of the app: one for any medium to large U.S. zoo and others for major zoos in El Paso, Staten Island and Milwaukee. One version, however, is tailored to the NEW Zoo, 4378 Reforestation Road, Suamico.

Borkowicz said he has a special love for northeastern Wisconsin, which partially inspired him to make an app just for the NEW Zoo. Many of his family members live in the area, he said, and he tested a prototype of the app at the NEW Zoo. For its part, the NEW Zoo features his app on its website .

How does the Photo Fun Safari app work?

The NEW Zoo scavenger hunt has eight levels suited for young children all the way up to older teens and adults. The easiest levels ask players to find animals in any position, while higher levels ask players to find animals in specific positions or doing specific activities. For example, while the Level 1 safari asks players to take a photo of an alligator, the Level 6 safari asks players to take a photo of an alligator with its mouth open.

Scoring is based on the honor system; the app automatically awards points for any photos taken or uploaded to the gallery. The app also features "animal fun facts" that come from the zoo itself.

The idea, Borkowicz said, is to help keep kids of all ages interested in their trip to a zoo.

"We've gone to the zoos with kids and grandkids," he said. When younger children get to the zoo, he said, they are "really excited, but they lose interest quickly." Older kids, on the other hand, might think they've seen everything before — but Borkowicz said encouraging them to look more closely, plus a little friendly competition, is more likely to hold their interest.

All levels in the NEW Zoo app are free until June 10. Afterward, Borkowicz plans to take a look at the app's data, see "if it's a good product and people like it," and possibly fine-tune its features before making the levels paid. Still, he hopes to keep the app free during springtime to benefit schools.

Zoo Update from Director and CEO Denise M. Verret – December 2022

The holiday season is my absolute favorite time of the year as I yearn to bundle up, sip something warm by the fire, and relinquish my flip flops (although in Los Angeles you should keep them handy year-round). It is a time of joy and also a reminder of giving thanks for family, friends, life, and health, not just in this season but every day. The holidays also remind me of another year gone by and the opportunity for reflection as we look back at our progress and impact, as well as renew our spirit and prepare for a brand-new year to come, bringing with it opportunities for continued growth and lasting connections.

I’m very proud to say that L.A. Zoo Lights has returned this year in a completely reimagined way that I hope everyone is enjoying. L.A. Zoo Lights: Animals Aglow has turned our Zoo into an immersive landscape filled with beautiful lighted sculptures of animals among blooming flowers, towering trees, and animated displays representing the impactful conservation work of your Los Angeles Zoo. This inclusive event has been extended this year through January 22, 2023 to celebrate the Lunar New Year with additional activities and programming during January. I hope everyone takes an opportunity to come back and enjoy this special time, beginning on January 6, 2023.

As I look toward 2023, I am excited to see the Zoo strengthen its partnerships and develop more meaningful connections with our diverse communities. We will be following the journey of our first-ever cohort of bright, young conservationists in the L.A. Zoo’s Teen Council for Conservation as they build their leadership skills, grow their knowledge, share their input and ideas for impacting their community by taking conservation action, and empowering their peers to enact meaningful change both at the Zoo and in their communities. We will also see the return of the Zoo’s Paid Internship Program, which will give college students from systemically excluded communities the unique opportunity to directly engage with zoological and conservation professionals. All of these partnerships and more in 2023 will help increase the Zoo’s impact on wildlife and biodiversity right here in Los Angeles.

I hope this holiday season provides us all an opportunity to reflect on the beauty and importance of the nature and wildlife that surrounds us and on the important role that we can play in preserving it. May you, your family, and your friends share amazing memories both here at the L.A. Zoo and at home this holiday season and all throughout the year. Zoo dyes dogs to look like baby pandas

A zoo in China is going viral for disguising dogs as baby pandas.

The Taizhou Zoo in Northern China opened a new exhibit with several Chow Chow dogs that had been given a black and white makeover.

The dog breed — which is originally from the area — is known for its fluffy appearance and dense double coat.

The dogs, advertised by the zoo as "panda dogs" evidently came about because the zoo doesn't have any actual pandas to showcase.

According to Chinese state media, the zoo confirmed it dyed the dogs to look like pandas in order to "fill in the blank" of not having any pandas.

A worker also told the outlet that the visitors are not being misled and that the exhibit "describes" the dogs exactly as they are.

A spokesperson for the zoo said the dogs are not being harmed and that the they use non-toxic dye on the m .

“People also dye their hair... Natural dye can be used on dogs if they have long fur," a spokesperson for the zoo told Qilu Evening News, according to NBC News.

However, animal experts say that a dog's fur is essential to their health and survival and depending on the dye used, it could risk compromising the animal's health.

Ron Magill, director of communications at Zoo Miami, said that what the zoo is doing is unsettling.

"This is something that’s kind of being forced on the animal for the sake of human entertainment," Magill told TODAY on an episode that aired May 10.

"Zoos are there to educate. Zoos are there to inspire... or to promote conservation. They’re not there to promote painting domestic animals with colors to represent wild animals," he added.

This isn't the first time a Chinese zoo has seen its animals going viral in recent history.

Last year, a Malaysian sun bear at the Hangzhou Zoo went viral after it was spotted walking on its hind legs. The video prompted mass speculation about whether or not it was a human in disguise.

The situation ultimately forced zoo officials to release the following statement: "I will stress again: I'm a sun bear!"

Still, in China, and even in the U.S., pandas — however they may be disguised — are good for business. Aside from being playful and an incredible sight to see, they are also helping to boost tourism around the globe.

The San Diego Zoo recently announced the addition of two giant pandas, Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, who are expected to arrive this summer. Their arrival comes after three giant pandas, Tian Tian, Mei Xiang and Xiao Qi Ji, were returned to China in November.

“Panda is a national treasure of China,” said Magill. “Thanks to great programs, mainly in China, they have been taken off the endangered species list.”

Taizhou Zoo said the panda dogs, which arrived May 1, are still there and the amount of people coming to see them is still "at a normal level."

Chinese zoo under fire after dyeing dogs to resemble pandas

HONG KONG — A zoo in China has been accused of trying to deceive visitors with a pair of dogs dyed black and white to look like panda bears .

Videos circulating on Chinese social media show the two “panda dogs” in an exhibit at Taizhou Zoo in the eastern province of Jiangsu that opened on May 1. Though the animals are patterned to look like pandas, which are endemic to China and an international symbol of the country, their wagging tails give them away.

Zoo officials told Chinese state media that they were Chow Chows — a fluffy dog breed originally from northern China — painted black and white to resemble giant pandas, adding that they had clearly advertised them as “panda dogs” and did not make any false claims.

The dogs are still at the zoo, officials told NBC News by phone on Friday, where the number of people coming to see them remained “at a normal level.”

The zoo, which does not have real pandas, was nonetheless criticized by state media and others for misleading visitors and mistreating the dogs.

“It is not funny at all to dye Chow Chow dogs to attract tourists,” one commenter wrote on the social media platform Weibo. “Their fragile skin and naturally thick coats make them susceptible to skin diseases.”

Zoo officials defended the exhibit, saying the dogs had not been harmed.

“Normal people dye their hair,” a spokesperson told Qilu Evening News. “Dogs can dye their hair, too. It’s the same as hair.”

This is not the first time that “panda dogs” have set off social media discussion in China.

In 2019, a dog cafe in the southwestern province of Sichuan raised animal rights concerns with its six Chow Chows that were also dyed to look like the bears.

In 2020, in the same province, a “panda” being walked by a woman in a video that went viral was revealed to be a dyed Chow Chow.

Other zoos in China have also been accused of having fake animals, often dogs they tried to present as wolves or African cats.

Last July, a zoo in the eastern province of Zhejiang denied that its Malayan sun bears were human beings in disguise after a video of one standing like a person went viral. Experts debunked the claim and the zoo said there was no way a person in a fur suit would be able to withstand such high summer temperatures.
