Kimberly Martins, M.A. CCC-SLP
Founder and speech-language pathologist.
I am a certified multilingual Speech-Language Pathologist with the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and a member of the “Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes du Québec” (OOAQ) and of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). After my American graduate education and professional experiences, I moved back to my hometown of Montreal to found my private practice Orthophonie VoxLingue to share my knowledge with multilingual and multicultural families raising children with diverse speech and language needs.
Being able to communicate and support people in my life has always been crucial to me. This profession has allowed me to expand my desire to help a multitude of individuals and families, which I am grateful for every day. I thank our community of clients and families for their continued support and trust in our speech services provided by our dedicated professionals at Orthophonie VoxLingue.
Research and mentorship are essential in our growing field. I have had the honor of mentoring and supervising dedicated graduate students and assistants throughout my career and helped shape future clinicians to serve our families. Understanding and working as a team with our clients and families is a crucial part of our services at Orthophonie VoxLingue. I was fortunate to further understand my clients through my research. In 2015, under the supervision of Dr. Hall, I presented “Families raising children who stutter: Concerns and Advice” at the International Fluency Association Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, and “Families raising children with disabilities: Concerns and Advice” at the ASHA conference. My graduate thesis “Worldwide Speech-Language Pathology Practice: Stuttering and Multilingualism” was also presented at the Joint World Congress (IFA, ICA, ISA) in Hiroshima, Japan in July 2018.

Renata Masucci, M.Sc.A
Co-owner and speech-language pathologist.
I was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, and pursued my university education at McGill University for both my Bachelor’s of Linguistics and Psychology as well as my Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology. I am a certified SLP with the Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec (OOAQ). I am looking forward to serving families in the Montreal community with the wealth of knowledge and experience I have gained throughout my years of training. I have experience in both the private and public sectors of Quebec, including school boards and hospitals. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, listening to podcasts, recording music, and creating innovative games for my clients.
I joined the VoxLingue team in 2020 and am proud to stand with a group of multilingual clinicians who prioritize individualized services throughout the evaluation and treatment process. We understand that everyone’s needs are different and will take the time to ensure we are focusing on your specific needs and motivations.
I became an SLP because I am passionate about ensuring every individual gets to experience the ability to communicate effectively. Without communication, we are not the social beings we were designed to be. I would love to help you or your child become an effective communicator, whether their difficulties lie in articulation, language, fluency, voice, or a foreign accent. I am trained in the Lidcombe Program for children who stutter and will continue to pursue certificates in the upcoming years that are centered around early intervention. My goal is to give parents the support to understand exactly what their child’s difficulties may be and then to give them all the tools they need to support their child. I look forward to meeting you either at our office or even online, via Zoom!

Emily Foreman, M.Sc.A, SLP (C) Provisional
Speech-language pathologist.
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist that graduated from McGill University with a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and am registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). I am originally from Windsor, Ontario, and have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Windsor. I love spending my free time practicing calligraphy, playing board games, staying active, and learning new languages – I was able to practice my French while attending graduate school in Montreal, and am beginning to learn Russian as well! I’m a planner and organizer at heart, and I love incorporating this into sessions with my clients.
During my final placement at McGill, I was fortunate enough to gain experience working with kids with speech sound disorders and cleft lip and palate and I’m excited to continually learn and expand my knowledge in these areas! I’ve been providing virtual sessions through Zoom since March 2020, and love coming up with creative, effective, and evidence-based ways to engage with my clients. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your speech and language goals!

Gabrielle Desaulniers, M.P.O
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist and member of the Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes du Québec. I completed both my bachelor's and my master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the Université de Montréal in 2021. Growing up in a small town, I was always very curious and passionate about languages and communication as a whole. I grew up speaking French and learned English mostly through my own curiosity about international culture, and I’m still very fond of learning new languages. I thrive when being creative, silly and surrounded by colleagues and clients who push me to better myself everyday. I love finding new and colorful ways to make speech and language feel more like a game and less like a challenge for my patients.
Being diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood has shaped my practice and my personal life, and unlearning many of the stigmas associated with neurodivergence has been an eye-opening and very rewarding experience. I strive to create a safe space for all my clients and promote neurodiversity both in my therapeutic approach and in my counseling role for families and professionals. I do not believe in practices that encourage a child to mask their true selves or to make themselves uncomfortable to fit a norm, and I will gladly adapt any and all traditional intervention methods and goals to foster authentic communication and relationship building over neurotypical conformity.
During my years of schooling, I gathered invaluable experience working in different clinical environments, both in schools and clinics. I work mostly with a pediatric clientele and have worked mostly with neurodivergent children and teenagers, but am always willing to learn and take steps to further my understanding of a variety of topics in order to offer the best possible services for my clients. I discovered a great interest in alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) and its benefits, and aspire to become a resource for families as well as professionals in order to give as many children as possible access to a total communication framework that fits their needs.

Melanie Custo Blanch, M.Sc.A
I am a certified Speech-Language Pathologist and a member of the “Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes du Québec” (OOAQ) and of Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC).
I pursued my bachelor studies in Psychology with a double minor in linguistics and education at McGill. I then completed my master’s at the McGill School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (SCSD) in 2020. During my studies, I worked and volunteered in diverse settings and with multiple populations. I worked at a lab where I had the opportunity to do research on music therapy and the impact it has on the level of engagement in school-aged children with Autism.
I began my career as a Speech-Language Pathologist (S-LP) working at a Montreal-based Hospital where I currently work with adult and elderly populations. While working at the hospital, I primarily focus on helping those with dysphagia, aphasia, dysarthria, dysphonia, and neurodegenerative diseases. I enjoy the fast-paced setting and the rapport I have built with many of my patients.
As I enjoy working in diverse settings and clientele of all ages, I decided to work at a private clinic alongside my medical job. This is how I came to join the VoxLingue team in 2021. I was eager to work at VoxLingue given all the endless learning opportunities and the possibility to work with the Spanish-speaking community.
I was born in Montreal Quebec and raised speaking Spanish, English, and French. Being trilingual has become a part of my identity and has driven my interest in languages. Knowing multiple languages has allowed me to communicate and further connect with others. Communication is a right to which we are all entitled. Being able to help others communicate and advocate for their wants and needs is one of the many reasons why I am so passionate about my profession. I enjoy working collaboratively with other professionals, empowering parents to take ownership of the therapy, and following the client’s lead to best achieve their goals.

Margarita Kalantzis, M.Sc.A
I am a certified Speech-Language Pathologist and a member of the "Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes du Québec." I completed my Bachelor's degree in Honours Linguistics at Concordia University and my master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from McMaster University. As a graduate student, I worked in different clinical settings, including private practice and school boards, which enabled me to interact with and support numerous clients, young and adults alike, providing various services and help.
I am certified in the Hanen It Takes Two to Talk program, which has given me the tools to assist parents and young children identified as having a language delay. Due to my desire to continuously learn and explore different competencies, I will also take certification courses in Orofacial Myology and Speech Sound Disorders in the coming months.
I have a passion for helping others, which motivated me to look into the rewarding and specialized field of Speech-Language Pathology. I look forward to serving families in Montreal and surrounding communities in English, French, and Greek.
I look forward to meeting you and/or your child via Zoom or in person!

Mariejoe Sfeir, M.P.O.
I am a member of «l’ordre des orthophonistes et audiologists du Québec (OOAQ)». I completed my bachelor's degree in 2020 and my master's degree in 2021 at the University of Montreal and I have been working at Vox Lingue ever since. I am of Lebanese origin so multilingualism has always been one of my areas of interest. I am also interested in voice, accent reduction and oral and written language difficulties. Outside of work, I am a creative and active person. I like adventures and always embark on new artistic activities. I am also a big reader and made it my mission to share the love of reading with my clients and the people around me.

Yasmine Benkirane, M.Sc.A
I am a licensed trilingual Speech-Language Pathologist with the Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes du Québec (OOAQ) and hold a bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Sciences with a specialization in language and linguistics from Carleton University and a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from McGill University. I was born and raised in Morocco and am fluent in Moroccan Arabic, French, and English. I have acquired clinical experience in a wide variety of settings with both the pediatric and adult populations. I’ve always been fascinated by the human brain and languages and speech therapy is the perfect fusion of both worlds. I also love learning about other people’s cultures, interests, and advocating for their needs. I strongly believe that communication is a fundamental human right. To understand and to be understood not only allows you to express your basic wants and needs but also enables exchange, growth, and active participation.
My goal at Voxlingue is to create a bridge for people with communication difficulties to ease their path into this demanding world and give them all the tools they need to become successful communicators ! My primary areas of interest include early language intervention, developmental language disorders, speech sound disorders, and social communication. During my free time, I enjoy traveling the world and learning about other people’s cultures and traditions while trying out new foods ! I also enjoy playing the piano, dancing, and singing. I look forward to working with you and your child to achieve your communicative goals!

Andréanne Langis, M.P.O.
I am a speech language pathologist member of the Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec (OOAQ) and I am clinically certified by the Speech-language pathology and audiology canadian association (SAC). I have a bachelor's and a master's degree in speech-language pathology from University of Montreal.
I work both in the public and the private healthcare system. I worked for 3 years in the child psychiatry field, with children and adolescents presenting mental health particularities (ADHD, Gilles la tourette syndrome, anxiety, behavioral disorders, attachment disorders, etc.). I now work in the assessment of autism spectrum disorders in teenagers.
Since the beginning of my speech-language pathology journey, I have been involved in the development of practices targeting adolescents and their family. I like oral and written language and social communication, and I am always on the lookout for new innovative practices that can have a direct impact on the lives of young people and their loved ones.

Laurence Beaudin, M.P.O.
I’m a Speech-Language Pathologist and member of the Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologiste du Québec (OOAQ) and of Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC).
I did my bachelor’s degree in psychology at Université Laval in Quebec City. I then completed my master’s degree in speech-language pathology in the new 2-year program at Université de Montreal. During my journey, I was able to discover many practices, but the one I bonded the most with is in the field of voice. I had the chance to learn how to sing a few years back and I was impressed with the connections you can make between singing and speech-language pathology. I studied this field because I was always fascinated by the different accents that exist and because I think that communication is a fundamental need every human being has. In addition to vocal therapy, I also practice with children that have language disorders or with people who have orofacial myofunctional disorders.
I’m from Sept-Iles, a town in Côte-Nord. I like the fresh air from the sea over there, but I love the heat of Montreal. For a long time, I studied and taught classical ballet, so you could say that I’m a creative person that likes to move. In my free time, I like to relax bundled up in a blanket with a good book and tea.
The field of speech-language pathology is fascinating for me because of its diversity of clienteles and I’m so happy to start my career somewhere I can have a diverse caseload. I prioritize well-being and collaboration with my clients. I’m excited to help people find their voice and means of communication back, whatever that may be.
Stratigo Stasia Paraskevakos, M.P.O.
I am a certified Speech-Language Pathologist and a member of the “Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes du Québec” (OOAQ). I hold a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from the University of Concordia, and I obtained my master’s degree in speech therapy from Université de Montréal in 2022.
My passion for speech therapy stems from when I was a very young girl. I watched and learned as my sister obtained speech therapy. Her speech therapist inspired me with her compassion, empathy and knowledge of the profession.
Over the past few years, my placements have allowed me to be exposed to different settings, such as daycares, high-schools and rehabilitation centers which deepened my passion for speech therapy, while also exposing me to its challenges and leading me to discover how crucial it can be for all ages.
I am excited for this new chapter of my life and being a part of the Vox Lingue team. I look forward to working with you and your children to achieve their communicative goals.

Jordan Milliken, CCC-SLP
I received a Masters in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Nebraska in 2014. I am a member of the ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec (OOAQ), as well as the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). I have practiced for 9 years in the United States in the public school system, serving students in the areas of literacy, alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), written language, autism, stuttering, and social skills. My particular interest is the assessment of refugee and immigrant students who are in the process of acquiring English/French. I also have 4 years of experience in a multidisciplinary rehabilitation hospital, specializing in traumatic brain injury, stroke, and swallowing. With a masters degree in French, experience in publishing and translation, my work at VoxLingue brings together many passions. I look forward to assisting clients with their essential communication needs in order to facilitate their social, learning, and community goals.
![speech language pathologist quebec](https://assets-global.website-files.com/6187951d1368e61855c6e1cc/6510e3d9852e9bf68a5d1253_Avleen.png)
Avleen Kaur Mokha, M.Sc.A
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist registered with the Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes du Québec (OOAQ). At Orthophonie VoxLingue, I provide in-person services at the LaSalle clinic and virtual services through Zoom.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and English Literature and a Master of Science (Applied), both from McGill University. I am interested in working with school-age clients, adolescents, and adults. I assess and treat language difficulties during development (developmental language disorder, reading/writing difficulties) and language difficulties caused by a stroke, traumatic brain injury, or a degenerative disorder.
Having been trained to work with a variety of populations, I am passionate about providing care that is client-centered and neurodiversity-affirming. No matter someone’s age or diagnosis, everyone has the right to communicate with dignity. As such, I build upon each client’s unique strengths to unlock their full potential to communicate.
I also have a strong interest in research, which I have shared at many academic conferences. I have collaborated with professors from McGill University to investigate different language-related topics: the way in which individuals learn to read and write in two languages, the barriers faced by children on the autism spectrum from multilingual families, and the experiences of parents from multilingual families immigrating to Quebec.
Originally from India, I moved to Montréal for my studies and fell in love with the city. I speak English, Hindi, French, and a bit of Punjabi. In my free time, I love to read and write.

Trinity Mastine, M.Sc.A
I am a licensed speech-language pathologist with the Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes du Québec. I graduated from Bishop’s University in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Honours Psychology, and I recently completed my studies at McGill University with a Master’s of Science (Applied) in Communications Sciences and Disorders (July 2023). I grew up on a farm in the rolling hills of the Eastern Townships, and I enjoy visiting my home community when possible. I am now settled in the Laurentians region, where a portion of my work week is dedicated to working within the Déficience du langage jeunesse program at a rehabilitation center.
I was fortunate enough to have had a practicum placement at Orthophonie VoxLingue in LaSalle during my studies. I received a valuable learning experience here, allowing me to enter each clinic day with excitement, and to end each of these days with gratitude; both for the profession I was pursuing and for the special moments I got to witness. A year later, I am pleased to join the team as a speech-language pathologist, providing bilingual and client-centered services through telepractice, in the Laurentians, and in my home region (in the vicinity of Drummondville, Victoriaville, and Sherbrooke). I look forward to working with you and/or your child on the communication goals that are important to you/them!

Education has always been very important to me. Furthermore, I strongly believe that anything is possible, but you just have to believe in your dreams. I therefore want to convey to your children that with perseverance and rigor, they will be able to achieve their goals.
Before completing my master's degree, I worked as a teacher in the private sector as well as on my own as a professional tutor. It was through these experiences that I discovered a passion for communication and language and it was important for me to improve my knowledge and skills. So I decided to continue my studies in speech therapy.
During my career in speech therapy, I had the chance to acquire some diverse experiences with children and adolescents with a developmental language disorder in school boards and children with resonance disorders at CHU Sainte-Justine. In addition, I completed my externship with adults and seniors mainly diagnosed with dysphagia and/or dysarthria at the Sacré-Cœur-de-Montréal hospital. In addition to these experiences, I will specialize in orofacial myofunctional disorders.
In my future professional practice, it will be very important for me to meet your needs as well as those of your children. Communication is the basis of human life, so my goal will be to make your daily life or the daily life of your children as functional as possible. Teamwork with you and/or your children will therefore be at the heart of my actions, in order to offer you a service that meets your expectations.

Béatrice Millette, M.P.O.
My name is Béatrice and I am a passionate Speech and Language Pathologist focused on communication and child development. Having myself had speech difficulties as a child, I have been interested in speech therapy for a very long time.
I am a member of the Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec (OOAQ). I completed my bachelor’s degree and my master’s degree at Université de Montréal. During my studies, I had the chance to travel abroad to study at Université de Bordeaux. In France, I had several meaningful professional experiences that still have an impact on my speech and language therapy practice.
My approach targets children aged 0-5 with difficulties that affect language and speech and school-age children with learning difficulties. It is important to me that I involve parents and family members during follow-ups to allow the child to progress in all his or her life environments.
I am looking forward to meeting you.

William Rondeau, M.Sc.A
I am a speech-language pathologist (S-LP) and a member of the OOAQ (l'Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec). I completed both my bachelor’s in cognitive science and my master’s in speech-language pathology at McGill University.
At first, I had decided to pursue a career in speech-language pathology because I was passionate about multilingualism and language generally. However, as I gained experience in the field, I came to realize that communication is a fundamental right, as it allows individuals to connect with other people, and in doing so, is a necessary component in maintaining their well-being.
As part of my clinical internships as well as my professional experience, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of clientele, including both children (language disorders, speech-sound disorders, intellectual disability, autism), and adults (traumatic brain injury, aphasia, dysarthria, dysphagia).
I am thrilled to be a part of the VoxLingue team, and I look forward to working with you!

Christina Matos, M.Sc.A candidate in Speech Language Pathology / Orthophonie
Having grown up in a bilingual city like Montreal, all while coming from a Greek and Portuguese household, I have always been passionate about the relationship that exists between culture and language. Having witnessed how different cultures utilize languages, it was clear that communication plays a key role in shaping our cultural identity.
This realization fueled my desire to pursue a master’s degree at the McGill School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, which I will be completing in 2025, following undergraduate studies in Psychology with a minor in Linguistics at Concordia University.
Throughout my academic journey, I volunteered in a variety of settings across various demographics, spanning from young children to older adults. One particularly enriching part of my experience has been tutoring, a role I have done for more than a decade. With every new experience, I develop valuable strategies and techniques to help me to tailor my approach to meet the specific needs and goals of the individual, which I believe is key to seeing progress.
I am beyond excited to work amongst the knowledgeable and skilled VoxLingue Team and continue to learn and acquire skills to further develop my professional capabilities as a future speech-language pathologist.
I look forward to meeting you!

Maria Marques
Administrative assistant.
I joined the VoxLingue team as Administrative Assistant and I am very proud and honored. I was born in Mozambique, South Africa to Portuguese parents. They immigrated when I was 5 years old in this beautiful big city with multiple cultural diversities. I attended school in French all my youth as well as the Portuguese school during my primary. English came naturally through youth programming. I managed to read, speak and write in these 3 wonderful languages.
For over 30 years I have worked in community pharmacy. Thanks to this experience in the health sector, I gained experience in customer service. In addition, I contributed to the training of employees, the coordination of the shipping and delivery department as well as the management of orders. Smiling, diligent, passionate, concerned about the well-being of patients and always ready to help my colleagues and companies to grow have made me a better person and acquired my knowledge and experience in the field.
I want to contribute and take up this new challenge in order to bring more to the company and help the well-being of parents and their children. In my free time reading is a real passion. I always read alternately in the 3 languages in order to keep my brain stimulated and preserve my written and spoken vocabulary in French, English and Portuguese. In my opinion, it is a great wealth and a privilege to be able to communicate with people in these three languages. My other passions are DIY and photography.
Looking forward to talking to you on the phone or meeting you at the clinic. I will be available for any questions and needs to meet your wonderful and dedicated speech therapy team VoxLingue.

Vladimir Romanov, B. Eng., MBA
Upon graduation, I found myself at a Procter & Gamble manufacturing site where I tackled technical challenges that pushed me to learn, develop myself as a leader, and execute multimillion-dollar projects while leading cross-functional teams. This role was fundamental to my career and allowed me to develop key relationships in the industry. Some of the most exciting projects I completed during this time include two-line roll-outs (valued over $20MM each) and a Research & Development project that allowed the production of PocketPearl (A highly successful P&G brand).
Due to a desire to gain additional leadership and management experience, I decided to join Kraft Heinz in 2017. At KHC, I was put in charge of 26 mechanics and electricians while trying to manage tight budgets, KPIs, and Lean Six Sigma initiatives at a food production facility. I managed to make a positive impact on multiple metrics of the plant, primarily on Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Unfortunately, due to a leadership decision, this plant was shut down in 2018.
While at Kraft Heinz, I developed an aptitude for leading technical projects and established a relationship with the owner of DreamVersion. DreamVersion is a small system integration firm that brought me on board as a consultant and systems integrator. Within the company, I took on multiple roles, supporting several clients (Kraft Heinz and Post Holdings) in a manufacturing setting and helping them with their digital transformation journey. Some of my projects include full plant design and roll-out, integration of multiple MES/OEE systems, and multiple PLC overhaul projects.
As I grew my capabilities on the technical side, my desire to fully understand business aspects grew. While maintaining a part-time capacity at DreamVersion, I decided to embark on a new journey that is an MBA at McGill University.
Thus far, the experience of the MBA has been incredible. I’ve made countless connections, learned about business best practices, accounting, business strategy, marketing, finance, and more. I’m hoping to apply my knowledge as well as technical background and experience to a role that will challenge me with greater problems and push me beyond what I was able to achieve to this date. I’m pursuing a dual concentration in Business Strategy and Finance.

Hey There! I’m Stephanie L. Finkelstein, proud owner of Speech Language Fun. I’m a fully certified speech-language pathologist (SLP) with more than 15 years of experience working with kids and adults to improve their communication.
Born and raised in Montreal, I always had a passion for learning languages, telling stories, performing on stage, helping people, and…talking! I work with families in English, French, Spanish, Hebrew, Yiddish, and sometimes even in gibberish! At Speech Language Fun, it’s all about creating personalized therapy sessions that motivate clients to achieve their therapy goals- no matter how silly those sessions can sometimes turn out to be.
My SLP journey started back in 2000, when I obtained my BA in Communication Studies (with a specialization in TV production) from Concordia University and subsequently landed my first job working as a communications consultant in the health sector. After just a few years, I realized that what I really wanted to do was work directly with the people I had been striving to help. So, off I went to explore the therapy world as both a special needs educator and ABA therapist, before reaching the natural conclusion that becoming an SLP was the job for me!
In 2005, I obtained my Masters of Science (Applied) Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from McGill University, and have been a practicing member of both Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC-OAC) and the Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologists du Québec (OOAQ) ever since.
In addition to being a Hanen-certified SLP for It Takes Two to Talk, More Than Words, and TalkAbility, I am also certified in Lessac-Madsen Resonant Voice Therapy, the Lidcombe Program, and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) – Level 1.
But enough about me…if you or your child need help being the best communicator you can be – then let’s talk!

Hello! My name is Daniella Berkowicz and I’m a fully certified Speech-Language Pathologist working in the Montreal area.
Growing up, I was exposed to over 4 languages so I felt it was natural that I pursued a career in this field. I also happen to love working with children and helping them learn and grow.
Language is such a critical foundation for future success and I feel passionate about allowing children to experience what communication can offer them, no matter the modality.
I am certified in the Lively Letters reading program and student certified in Picture Exchange Communication System – Level 1.

Language Disorder
Although speech errors are common and expected as children learn to speak, persistent errors or difficulty being understood can indicate a need for an evaluation in speech-language pathology. Children can feel frustrated when they are consistently misunderstood due to speech sound errors. Untreated speech errors can have an impact of expressive language, reading and writing abilities and self-esteem. However, individualised speech-language pathology treatment can eliminate speech errors and their impact on the daily communication exchanges of your child.
Language disorders, or language impairments, are disorders that involve the processing of linguistic information.
Language disorders, or language impairments, are disorders that involve the processing of linguistic information.Problems that may be experienced can involve grammar (syntax and/or morphology), semantics (meaning), or other aspects of language. These problems may be receptive (involving impaired language comprehension), expressive (involving language production), or a combination of both.
Examples include specific language impairment and aphasia, among others. Language disorders can affect both spoken and written language, and can also affect sign language; typically, all forms of language will be impaired. Note that these are distinct from speech disorders, which involve difficulty with the act of speech production, but not with language.
How can you tell if my child has a language disorder?
Children with language disorders often present as having a language delay before they enter into school. Their difficulties include :
![title= speech language pathologist quebec](https://www.centremosaique.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Groupe-de-masques-205.png)
- Finding the right words to use.
- Limited vocabulary
- Dgrammatical errors and have poor sentence structure.
- Use of the wrong words in sentences.
- Difficulties understanding word meanings.
- Use of simple short sentences
- Difficulties retelling stories.
- Difficulties providing information to others.
- Difficulties listening.
- Difficulties understanding stories and more complex language.
- Reliance on visual information to gain meaning from a situation.
What is the difference between a language delay and a language disorder?
![title= speech language pathologist quebec](https://www.centremosaique.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Groupe-de-masques-206.png)
A language delay is a delay in acquisition of language skills compared to children of similar ages.
A young child with a language delay may exhibit a slower onset of a language skill, slowed progress, and slowed sequence in which the language skills are learned. Through targeted intervention the child can catch up to their peers. However, some children continue to demonstrate persistent and significant difficulties acquiring and using language skills.
These children are more likely to have a language disorder. A comprehension evaluation is required to understand the complete profile of the child and to eliminate any other factors that could be contributing to the difficulty of acquiring adequate communication abilities.

- Autorisation spéciale
Special Authorization
Application for special authorization to practice the profession of audiologist or speech-language pathologist in quebec.
Under section 42.4 of the Quebec Professional Code , the Order Board of Directors may, via special authorization, grant a person legally authorized to practice their profession outside Quebec permission, to use a title reserved for members of the Order or to perform professional acts in Quebec that are reserved for them.
Such authorization is valid only for acts or titles specified in the authorization. In addition, the authorization specifies the person or groups of persons on whose behalf acts may be performed, as well as any other applicable conditions or restrictions. It is valid for a maximum period of one year and is renewable.
Who must request special authorization?
- Those serving as trainers, instructors, or participants in a training activity taking place in Quebec and requiring intervention with patients.
- Persons serving as consultants.
- Persons intervening in person or virtually with clients.
- Persons wishing to use the title reserved for OOAQ members, i.e. audiologist or speech-language pathologist.
Why is special authorisation required?
The Quebec Professional Code stipulates, in section 36m), that no person in any way whatsoever shall “’ use the title “Speech Therapist” , “Speech-Language Pathologist” or “Audiologist” or any other title or abbreviation which may lead to the belief that he is a speech therapist, speech-language pathologist or an audiologist, or initials which may lead to the belief that he is a speech therapist or audiologist, unless he holds a valid permit for that purpose and is entered on the roll of the Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec.”
In addition, no one may perform the reserved acts specified in section 37.1 of the Professional Code.
Therefore, it is mandatory to obtain special authorization from the OOAQ in order to use the titles or perform reserved act.
When must an application for special authorization be submitted?
When applicants foresee the need to work with clients.
If the professional acts stipulated within the territory of the province of Quebec involve intervention with clients, the Order requires, at all times, for reasons related to the protection of the public, that the person in question submit an application for special authorization in order to be allowed to perform the professional acts.
When applicants do not foresee having to work with clients.
For occasional acts performed within a limited scope of a specific activity (conference, symposium, etc.) not involving any intervention with clients, the Order is not opposed to a person legally authorized to practice the profession of speech-language pathologist or audiologist outside Quebec designating themselves as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist. However, they, or the persons or organizations designating them as such, must specify the recognized professional regulatory organization for speech-language pathologists or audiologists--or, if such an organization does not exist, the national organization representative of the profession--to which they belong.
For example, the person may be designated as: “John Handfield, audiologist, member of the College of Audiologists and Speech-language Pathologists of Ontario” or “Sandrine Delmas, speech-language pathologist, member of the Fédération nationale des orthophonistes de France. In such cases, these individuals are not required to apply to the Order.
What is the duration of the special authorization?
The term of the special authorization may not exceed 12 months and may only be renewed by the Board of Directors.
What are the costs?
Once your application has been accepted, an invoice will be issued. You will be informed by email of the applicable fees and payment method. Your special authorization will be delivered after payment has been received.
![speech language pathologist quebec speech language pathologist quebec](https://www.ooaq.qc.ca/media/b0znc1qr/tableau-fees3.png?center=0.5,0.5&mode=max&quality=90&width=650&height=928)
The fees charged cover the processing of your application and the duration of the special authorization. They are non-refundable. To these costs, a subscription to professional liability insurance may be added, depending on your situation. Please refer to the section below "Is liability insurance required?" for more information.
Is liability insurance required?
Anyone holding special authorization must be covered by professional liability insurance that fulfills the conditions set out in the Règlement sur l’assurance de la responsabilité professionnelle de l’Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec ( “Regulation respecting professional liability insurance of the Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec”, in French only) .
The Order may require:
- Formal confirmation from your insurer specifying explicitly that your professional liability insurance actually covers the professional activities required, for the entire length of your stay in Quebec, for a minimum amount of $3,000,000.
- That you purchase, through our insurer, Beneva assurances générales, temporary professional liability insurance covering the professional acts described in your special authorization document for the period in question. This policy costs $54.50 (taxes included).
To obtain the special authorization application form or for any additional questions or information, please contact our admissions team by telephone at 514-282-9123, Extension 349 or email at [email protected] .
Documents required for special authorization
Applicants must send the following documents to the Order:
The completed special authorization application form .
Proof of professional liability insurance, or an additional amount of $54.50, to purchase temporary professional liability insurance from Beneva, as the case may be. This amount is in addition to the fees required for the special authorization, depending on its duration.
Official attestation from the regulatory body overseeing the practice of the speech-language pathology or audiology profession or, if such organization does not exist, the national representative organization deemed equivalent in the location where the person practices, to the effect that they are a member in good standing.
The attestation must specify:
- That the member is not subject to any disciplinary measure or sanction that would limit or suspend their right to practice;
- The class of permit (for example, active, inactive, regular, retired, etc.).
An abridged version of their curriculum vitae.
The program of activities (colloquium, conference, course load or clinical intensive), if available.
Persons who are not members of a regulatory body must provide a certified true copy of each diploma they have obtained in order to practice their profession.
If a document sent in support of an application for special authorization is written in a language other than French or English, the applicant must also provide a French or English translation of the document.
After approval of the special authorization, payment of fees can be done by cheque (send cheques payable to OOAQ) or credit card (to use this method, please email: [email protected] ).
