When you think of contacting a company for help, you likely first think of placing a call to talk to a customer service representative. Unfortunately, reaching Facebook support by phone is nearly impossible and not particularly useful in most cases.

Facebook does have a couple of numbers you can call to try getting in touch with the company. However, both phone numbers only play a pre-recorded message. You can't talk to a real human on either number.

If you want to try your luck calling them regardless, Facebook's support phone numbers are:

• +1 650-543-4800
• +1 650-308-7300

As of August 2023, those numbers are still valid and owned by Facebook. They still, alas, simply direct you to visit meta.com/help , Facebook's online help database. As always, be cautious when calling a support number. If you should call either of these numbers in the future and instead of an automated message, there is a person very interested in getting your Facebook login data, financial data, or other personal information, assume the number is no longer used by Facebook and the person on the other end is running a scam.

Facebook doesn't encourage people to contact it via email. However, in the past, Facebook listed a few email addresses that you could use to contact Facebook directly.

You can still try sending an email to one of these email addresses and possibly get a response. There's no guarantee, though. Your chance of getting a response, however, is much higher than calling the automated phone numbers we mentioned above.

• [email protected] : Send your press-related queries to this email.
• [email protected] : Use this email for law enforcement concerns.
• [email protected] : Appeal against your blocked content using this email.
• [email protected] : Report content violating Facebook's guidelines via this email address.
• [email protected] : Use this email to ask Facebook what data it has about you.
• [email protected] : For intellectual property-related queries, use this email.
• [email protected] : Report phishing content via this email address.

We'd encourage you only to use the email addresses for their suggested purposes. It's already difficult enough to get an email response from Facebook, and if everyone spams their inquiries across multiple Facebook inboxes, it just creates more noise on the communication channel for people with legitimate abuse reports, intellectual property queries, or other issues.

These days, one of the ways you can contact a company is by tweeting them on Twitter, and Facebook is no exception.

You can send a tweet to one of Facebook's Twitter handles, and possibly get a response. There's no guarantee your query will be looked at, but it's worth trying if your issue doesn't need to be fixed urgently. Or, conversely, if the issue is very pressing and nobody is responding to you a social media shoutout is a time-honored way to get the attention of a large company that has otherwise been ignoring you.

If you didn't get a response from Facebook's phone number, email, or Twitter account, use the platform's "Help & Support" menu to get help on many matters. This menu lets you access the site's Help Center, view responses to your reported items , and even allows you to report a bug or send feedback to Facebook.

Get Help From Facebook on Windows, Mac, Linux, or Chromebook

To get help on your desktop computer, launch your preferred web browser and open Facebook . There, sign in to your account.

After signing in, from the Facebook site's top-right corner, select your profile icon.

In the menu that opens, click "Help & Support."

The "Help & Support" menu offers multiple options to get help from Facebook. These options are:

Get Facebook's Help on an iPhone, iPad, or Android Phone

To access the platform's help options on your phone, launch the Facebook app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

If you're on Android, then in the app's top-right corner, tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines). If you're on an iPhone or iPad, then in your screen's bottom-right corner, tap the "Menu" option.

On the "Menu" page that opens, scroll down to the bottom. Then, tap "Help & Support."

In the expanded "Help & Support" menu, select one of the following options:

• Help Center : Tap this option to access Facebook's Help Center where you'll find a guide on nearly any Facebook topic. You'll also get answers to many of your account-related problems in this Help Center.
• Support Inbox : Use this option to see the responses you've received for your reported content. Important messages regarding your account are also found here.
• Report a Problem : To send Facebook a bug report or feedback, select this option.

After tapping an option, follow the on-screen instructions to proceed further.

One more way you can contact Facebook directly is through forms. Facebook makes several forms available that you can use to submit requests or report problems with your account or someone else's. Here are some of the forms that you can use on the site:

• Photo Removal Request : To remove your own, your child, or another adult's photo from the platform, use this form.
• Account Was Disabled : If your account is disabled, use this form to request Facebook to review the account.
• Change Name : Use this form to change your first, middle, and last name in your account.
• Confirm Identity : You can confirm your identity on Facebook by submitting a valid ID card using this form.
• Medically Incapacitated or Deceased Person : To make changes to an account whose account holder can't do it because of medical reasons, use this form.
• Report Violation : To report trademark or copyright violations, utilize this form.
• Email Already in Use : If someone's using your email address in a Facebook account, report it with this form.
• Report Underage Child : If a child below the age of 13 is using Facebook, use this form to report that child's profile to Facebook.
• Child Data Request : Get the data Facebook has on your child with this form.
• Report a Page Unavailable Error : If you encounter a "Page Unavailable" error on Facebook, use this form to let Facebook know about it.

After accessing a form, fill the form and submit it. Facebook will review your request and take appropriate action or get back to you asking for more details.

If you need to report a Gmail account for spam, abuse, or fraud, you can do so using Google's Gmail abuse form. For immediate action against these phishing or harmful accounts, you can easily block the email address on your desktop computer or mobile device. This will redirect all future emails from the sender into the Spam folder. Blocked parties will not be notified that they are blocked. This wikiHow will show you how to report and block an abusive or spam Gmail account using your Windows, Mac, iPhone, or Android device.

Things You Should Know

• Go to the Gmail abuse form in a web browser and enter your contact info.
• Paste the headers, subject line, and body of the email into the appropriate sections of the form. Click "Submit" the send the report.
• To block a sender, open an email from the sender. Click the three dots icon, then click "Block [sender]".

• If you received a Spam or harmful email, you can report it to Google. Always be cautious when receiving emails from senders who are not in your contact list.
• Official emails from Google will always come from email addresses that end in "@google.com", not from email addresses that end in "@gmail.com".
• You can identify a phishing page by looking at the sender, searching for typos, and spotting any suspicious links in the email body. Once you identify a phishing page, you can easily avoid the scam by blocking, reporting, and ignoring the sender.

• Your report will be sent to Google.

• If you need to unblock a sender, return to an email from the sender. Click the three dots icon, then click Unblock . Click Unblock again to confirm.

• Gmail is available for iOS in the App Store and for Android in the Google Play Store .

• On iOS, the icon looks like •••.
• A pop-up menu will open.

• The sender will be blocked. Future messages from the sender will be sent directly to the Spam folder.
• If you need to unblock a sender, return to an email from the sender. Tap the three dots icon, then tap Unblock .

Facebook Scam: 'Someone Tried To Log in to Your Account'

About this rating

Over the years, readers may have seen scam email messages sitting in their spam folders that claimed to be from social media companies. One such scam message that looked to be from Facebook (but wasn't) had a subject line that claimed: "Someone tried to log in to your account." The subject line often ended with an 8-digit ID number.

Such Facebook email scams can lead to phishing, identity theft, and other dangerous outcomes. We strongly recommend against clicking links in any such messages.

The emails often looked something like the message below:

Most of the messages will have a greeting followed by the words: "A user just logged into your Facebook account from a new device iPhone 11 Pro. We are sending you this email to verify it's really you." We also saw a variation of the message that mentioned a different device: "iPhone 12 Pro Max."

However, the social media company does not send out messages like these with buttons that say "Report the user" and "Yes, me." It's an email scam.

While the message might appear like a legitimate email from Facebook , there's one way to know for sure. Readers can look at the "From" part of the email in order to determine if it came from a legitimate Facebook email address. In this case below, it came from a strange email address ending in "secomag.za.com." We saw another of the scam emails with "tuufisz9capmuourwp75.designclub.uk.com." Neither of these is an official Facebook email address, meaning that it's a scam.

So what are some of the official Facebook email addresses? Facebook.com, fb.com, and facebookmail.com are three trustworthy email accounts that are owned by Facebook. If readers receive an email that is legitimately from one of these email addresses, then it is not a scam.

For example, Facebook's Help Community once confirmed that the email address [email protected] is trustworthy and is not involved in scams.

At the same time, if an email is received that displays one of the official email addresses, it's advised to click or tap any arrows or dropdowns next to the email address at the top of the message. Once that area is expanded, it'll show if the displayed email address matches the real one, like this:

In sum, do not click any links if you receive the Facebook email scam that claims "someone tried to log in to your account."

Step 1 : Open the Facebook app and tap the three-line icon from the bottom-right corner (iOS) or top-right corner (Android, Facebook Lite, and mobile web).

Step 2 : Scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy, followed by Settings.

Step 3 : Tap Personal details from under the Account Center.

People who aren’t on your friends list can find you on Facebook using the primary address of your account. Fortunately, you can change this privacy setting and limit it to your friends or only you.

Create and add an email signature in Outlook

In Outlook, you can create one or more personalized signatures for your email messages. Your signature can include text, links, pictures, and images (such as your handwritten signature or a logo).

In the editing box below the new name, type your signature, then format it with the font, color, and styles to get the appearance you want.

Select Save when you're done.

With your new signature selected from the list above the editing box, go to  Select default signatures and choose whether to apply the signature to new messages and to replies and forwards.

Select Save again.

Note:  If you have a Microsoft account, and you use Outlook and Outlook on the web or Outlook on the web for business, you need to create a signature in both products.

Open a new email message.

Under Select signature to edit , choose New , and in the New Signature dialog box, type a name for the signature.

Under Edit signature , compose your signature. You can change fonts, font colors, and sizes, as well as text alignment. If you want to create a more robust signature with bullets, tables, or borders, use Word to create and format your signature text, then copy and paste it into the Edit signature box. You can also use a pre-designed template  to create your signature. Download the templates in Word, customize with your personal information, and then copy and paste into the Edit signature box. 

You can add links and images to your email signature, change fonts and colors, and justify the text using the mini formatting bar under Edit signature .

You can also add social media icons and links in your signature or customize one of our pre-designed temlates. For more information, see Create a signature from a template .

To add images to your signature, see Add a logo or image to your signature .

Under Choose default signature , set the following options. 

In the E-mail account drop-down box, choose an email account to associate with the signature. You can have different signatures for each email account.

You can have a signature automatically added to all new messages. Go to in the New messages drop-down box and select one of your signatures. If you don't want to automatically add a signature to new messages, choose (none). This option does not add a signature to any messages you reply to or forward. 

You can select to have your signature automatically appear in reply and forward messages. In the  Replies/forwards drop-down, select one of your signatures. Otherwise, accept the default option of (none). 

Choose OK to save your new signature and return to your message. Outlook doesn't add your new signature to the message you opened in Step 1, even if you chose to apply the signature to all new messages. You'll have to add the signature manually to this one message. All future messages will have the signature added automatically. To add the signature manually, select Signature from the Message menu and then pick the signature you just created.

Add a logo or image to your signature

If you have a company logo or an image to add to your signature, use the following steps.

Open a new message and then select Signature > Signatures .

In the Select signature to edit box, choose the signature you want to add a logo or image to.

To resize your image, right-click the image, then choose Picture . Select the Size tab and use the options to resize your image. To keep the image proportions, make sure to keep the Lock aspect ratio checkbox checked.

When you're done, select OK , then select OK again to save the changes to your signature.

Insert a signature manually

If you don't choose to insert a signature for all new messages or replies and forwards, you can still insert a signature manually.

In your email message, on the Message tab, select Signature .

Choose your signature from the fly-out menu that appears. If you have more than one signature, you can select any of the signatures you've created.

Automatically add a signature to a message

You can create an email signature that you can add automatically to all outgoing messages or add manually to specific ones.

Select Settings   at the top of the page.

Select Mail >  Compose and reply .

Under Email signature , type your signature and use the available formatting options to change its appearance.

Select the default signature for new messages and replies.

Manually add your signature to a new message

If you've created a signature but didn't choose to automatically add it to all outgoing messages, you can add it later when you write an email message.

In a new message or reply, type your message.

If you created multiple signatures, choose the signature you want to use for your new message or reply.

When your email message is ready, choose Send .

Note:  Outlook.com is the web version of Outlook for users signing in with a personal Microsoft account such as an Outlook.com or Hotmail.com account.

Google ad for Facebook redirects to scam

Today, we are looking at a malicious ad campaign targeting Facebook users via Google search. It is well-known that tech support scammers attract new victims by buying ads for certain keywords related to their audience.

What is perhaps less known is how it is even possible to impersonate top brands and get away with it. We will try to respond to the ‘how they do it’ and the ‘why is Google allowing this’ questions.

Such malvertising attacks are not new and the damage they cause to consumers is growing every day. There is no one way to stop all of them, but public reporting will hopefully drive the point home that this needs to be addressed just like other types of fraud or malware.

We have reported the malicious advertiser to Google, but at the time of publishing this campaign was still on.

Malicious ad campaign for Facebook

Justin Poliachik did what many people would do, he opened up a Google search, typed facebook and clicked on the top result. In the video below, he summarizes what happened next:

Thanks to Justin for the shoutout to our blog and explaining what went down! Not sure if Justin was joking, but we don’t believe AI is going to fix malvertising, at least not for the next little while. Instead, we are going to look into more details about one particular technique. In our view, this is actually where the abuse happens the most, and where things could be improved.

Two paths make cloaking

As we said, Google seems to have a problem with brand impersonation that may not be easy to solve. We have reported such cases several times before with pretty much the same techniques.

How can Google differentiate a legitimate affiliate from a malicious actor? There are a number of data points about the advertiser via their account: user profile, payment method, budget, etc. We are not privy to those details, but they can certainly help when it comes to fraud.

More importantly, there is the ad itself: vanity URL, display text, tracking template, final URL. What happens when you click on the ad? Are you actually redirected to the URL claimed in the ad? This is a feature that appears to be so easy to abuse, and yet remains unfixed.

Cloaking is an old technique and in many ways can be used for legitimate purposes. After all, one needs to be able to detect real humans and not bots or crawlers for their hard-earned ad dollars budget.

Threat actors have long identified such services as very helpful tools for their malicious campaigns. True, they, like others don’t want robots, but they also don’t want Google’s scanners or security researchers to expose their malicious schemes.

Under the hood

This part is a little more technical, but integral in understanding how malvertising works. As mentioned in the video above, cloaking allows to deliver two different experiences. Genuine humans can be detected from a number of factors: IP address, browser fingerprinting, etc.

A click tracking service can be used to analyze traffic, collect data, etc. All in all, such services are useful in and of themselves, but they can also easily be abused by bad actors. Within the Google ad ecosystem, advertisers will place their URL as a tracking template , and the rest will be handled outside of Google.

One thing that’s interesting is how scammers will abuse the click tracking service as well! All they have to do is redirect to another “legitimate” domain they control and from there decide on the final destination URL.

We can see in the image below that final redirect, which is either the scam page or the actual Facebook site:

Safeguarding your online experience

We have seen these malicious ads for years and years. It would be unfair to say that no action has ever been taken, but there is room for improvement. Individual reports from victims are not always actioned based on our experience and that of others. This is frustrating because it appears as if those individual experiences do not matter in the grander scheme of things.

Security vendors also struggle with these scams. Chasing infrastructure from one host to the next or having trouble blocking URLs that abuse legitimate providers is a real thing.

As a user you can protect yourself in various ways:

• Beware of sponsored results
• Block ads altogether
• Recognize scam pages as fake
