Dad might want to upgrade to the newest electric truck or sports car for Father’s Day, but the father-figures in your life are more likely driving a Nissan Leaf, Chevy Bolt EUV or Tesla Model Y family car. These are gifts to make them feel more excited about their kid-friendly low-emissions rides.

These are both fun and practical gifts for the dads who drive an EV everyday. For some suggestions, we talked to a longtime Tesla owner and Bay Area dad who is known as Tesla Raj on social media. His ideas are great for what he calls “budget conscious” Tesla owners, or really anyone who has to plug in their EV or hybrid and wants gifts that are more functional than frivolous. Other ideas work as a gift for all dads driving all types of cars. The $300,000 Cadillac Celestiq gift for dad will have to wait.

TesBros Vinyl Covers

Made for different Tesla models, Tesla Raj calls these vinyl covers “fun” for the center console, dashboard, steering wheel or for the exterior door handles or charge port. There are several options, but Tesla Raj recommends the Model 3/Y Center Console Wrap ($29) and Charge Port Wrap ($19). “Give your Tesla a more unique look,” he said about the different customization options.

RivBros Vinyl Covers

The same company has expanded to wraps and covers for Rivian EVs, with 12 products mostly for exterior customization. The Door Handle Wrap for the R1T and R1S ($25) is the simplest and cheapest option.

ScentWedge Air Fresheners

Made for the Tesla Model 3 and Y, Tesla Raj notes that the ScentWedge “doesn’t have that fake smell” noticeable in other air fresheners. It slots into the front horizontal or rear vent of the Tesla for a discreet car cleansing. Each front pack ($20) comes with three scents that should each last about two weeks. The rear Discovery Set ($35) comes with four scents. The Valencia pack includes citrus and vanilla smells, while Grounded includes Coffee and Fresh Rain. Opt for a bigger pack ($35 to $65) or subscribe for a monthly scent ($15).

MagBak Wireless Phone Mount Charger

Another product made specifically for the Tesla Model 3 and Y, the MagBak Phone Mount and Charger ($99) easily slips into the minimalist dashboard. It connects with the brand’s magnetic phone cases or any MagSafe connection. “It’s at the perfect height for your face,” according to Tesla Raj, who uses the mount in his Model 3 and Y.

MagBak RimCase Tire Rim Protectors

Another Tesla Model 3 and Y product, the MagBak’s RimCase ($62 per wheel or $249 for four) protects your wheels from the curb. Tesla Raj has been eyeing this product, which he has noticed is a discreet piece of plastic “that you don’t even see” that you’re using. Stealth protection is very on brand.

Diecast Model Cars

Maybe Dad wishes he had a new EV. Head to the Tesla online shop for 1:18 scale versions of its Tesla Cybertruck ($225), Model Y ($195), 3 ($150), Roadster ($175) and 1:24 scale Semi ($175).

For non-Tesla options, the Rivian R1T Matchbox collector car ($17.99) is available at Walmart, along with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Jeep Avenger. For cheaper Tesla diecast model cars, Walmart has the Model X, Y and 3 (starting around $10).

TesBros Car Care Bundles

Most car dads can relate to Tesla Raj: “​​I’m not the only one who is super anal about their car.” While not a glamorous gift, a car care kit would make the Tesla expert’s (Father’s) day. 17-year-old student ID'd after being killed in 2-car crash while driving to school in Placentia

PLACENTIA, Calif. (KABC) -- An 11th-grade student was being mourned after being killed in a two-car crash while driving to school in Placentia.

On Wednesday morning, classmates were adding flowers and balloons to a makeshift memorial at the intersection of Yorba Linda Blvd and Valencia Avenue, where the collision claimed the life of 17-year-old Zach Henn.

The crash was reported about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, less than a thousand feet from the campus of El Dorado High School. Officers arrived to find a juvenile driver "had sustained major injuries and was trapped inside of his vehicle," the Placentia Police Department said in a statement. "His male juvenile passenger had exited the vehicle under his own power and was located at the scene."

The other vehicle, a Range Rover, was driven by a 39-year-old woman, with two child passengers, a boy and a girl, authorities said.

Henn was extricated from his 1984 Corvette by Placentia Fire and Life Safety Department personnel and was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A witness to the crash, Dawnnie Bigelow, said she saw emergency responders removing Henn from the car and putting him on a stretcher.

The female driver and the passengers of both vehicles were also hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.

"I saw both the kids put neck braces on as well," Bigelow said, referring to the young passengers in the Range Rover. "And that was hard to see because they're young kids."

At the curbside memorial on Wednesday, some of Henn's friends provided photos of him to ABC7. They said he was on the junior varsity track team, loved cars, and was popular with other students. Hot Wheels toy cars were left at the crash site in remembrance.

"I really miss him but I know he's in a better place," said one friend, who declined to be publicly identified. "He would make an effort to talk to people. And if you were having a bad day and he could tell that -- even if he didn't know you -- he would ask you if you were OK."

The cause of the collision is under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call the Placentia Police Traffic Bureau at (714) 993-8157.

"Our entire school district is overwhelmed with grief beyond words," Superintendent Alex Cherniss of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District said in a statement. "During this incredibly challenging time, we ask for your compassion in respecting the privacy of our student's loved ones, and to keep them in your thoughts and prayers."
