HEC announces new policies for PhD admissions, undergraduate education

hec rules for phd admission

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) has announced new policies for PhD admissions and undergraduate education.

The HEC has prescribed standards for launching PhD programs, and universities must obtain the HEC's approval by submitting evidence of compliance with these standards before launching a PhD program.

Under the new policy for PhD admissions, students can apply for PhD directly after four years of the BS programme. The 12-page HEC policy document, applicable from January 1, 2021, reads that a BS degree, or equivalent, will be the minimum criteria for PhD admission.

The maximum duration of a PhD degree will be eight years, with the minimum being three years.

Further, the proposed policy said the previous qualification in the same discipline shall not be required for admission to the PhD program.

According to a new policy, a student pursuing a PhD will have to take up a course load of 48 credit hours.

The policy states that in case of non-implementation or violation, action can be initiated such as "warning to universities, suspension of admissions, suspension or revocation of NOC for admissions, public alert and non-verification of credentials".

The minimum requirement for admission to a PhD program shall be completion of the BS (or equivalent) degree.

To avoid confusion, it is clarified that this and the remaining criteria in this section are only minimum requirements, and universities are free to establish their own admissions framework that may vary by discipline, provided it satisfies the minimum conditions set forth in this section. Keeping in view that doctoral studies are intended to be rigorous and demanding, universities need to ensure that entrants to doctoral programs are capable of handling the academic rigor required to complete a PhD degree.

Further, in admitting students to PhD programs, this policy encourages admissions committees to take a substantive approach to ascertain (a) applicants' commitment (or level of interest) in pursuing the PhD program and (b) their preparedness in terms of previous academic training that will enable them to succeed in the program.

Prior to entry into a PhD program, the student shall have been awarded his or her BS/MS/MPhil or equivalent degrees. For admission in PhD programs, a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0 in the semester system) or First Division (in the annual system) in the most recent degree obtained is required, whether such was degree obtained from Pakistani or foreign universities. The PhD degree shall be awarded by universities after a minimum of three (3) years and not more than eight (8) years after the enrolment of the student; provided that for students who are unable to complete the program within eight (8) years, the university may designate a competent authority to determine whether the delay was caused by circumstances beyond the student's control, and if so, grant an extension in such exceptional circumstances; provided further that in no event shall the PhD degree be awarded more than ten (10) years after the enrolment of the student in the program.

The date of notification of the award of the PhD degree subsequent to the PhD defense shall be considered to be the date of the completion of PhD studies.

The undergraduate education policy provides objectives and policy for education programs leading to the Bachelor of Studies Degree (BS), professional degrees, and the associate degree (AD).

The overall objective of the policy is to enhance the likelihood of student success.

Specific objectives include competency-based learning, balance between breadth and depth, specialisation, applied knowledge, terminal degree.

Yes, mandatory courses (Year 1) are taught both in English and in French. Students will be asked to choose their language of instruction before the start of the course. Students may also choose to take a combination of the courses. Electives are taught either in English or in French. Student s with an intermediate level in French are encouraged to join at least one elective taught in French.

Specializations (Year 2) are taught either in English or in French/English.

Yes, all international students are offered the possibility to join a French language course and to prepare for the TEF (Test d’Evaluation de Français) according to your level (beginner, intermediate or proficient).

HEC Paris Learning Center of Languages is also the perfect place to learn or strengthen French and many other languages.

See this page

Yes, if you realize that the syllabus/content is exactly the same as the course that you have already studied, the Professor responsible for the course, may exempt you from the course upon application from the student. However, we encourage students to take the course as the teaching methods, case studies, group work and personal work may differ from the course that you have studied previously.

The Gap Year , a one year break between M1 and M2, is not mandatory but is an option that most of the students choose. This is a unique opportunity to spend one year in the workplace in order to gain professional experience and extra exposure on your CV. It is also an opportunity to ‘test’ a particular field of activity, a time to consider changing career and goals and to think about your choice of specialization.

Students who do not wish to take advantage of the Gap Year will apply in the February of their first year of studies. Presentations of all the specializations will have been made in the December and January.

Students who take advantage of the Gap Year will apply during this year.

HEC offers all students the possibility to apply for a Double Degree offered in collaboration with our partner universities. Students apply during their first year of studies or during their Gap Year. See the dedicated section

Some of our Double Degree programs must be applied for at the admission stage (HEC Paris / Freie Universität Berlin Double Degree and HEC Paris / MGIMO University Double Degree).

Students apply for our other Double Degree programs at the same time as the specializations, either in the first year of studies or during the Gap Year.

As part of an agreement between Ecole Polytechnique and HEC Paris, all students from the Ecole Polyte chnique who have followed the Year 3 of the Ingénieur Polytechnicien Program can apply to one of the programs below:

  • MSc X-HEC Entrepreneurs
  • MSc International Finance
  • MSc Strategic Management
  • Grande Ecole program (double degree)

To apply for one of these programs, please contact Anne-Marie Le Gall at Polytechnique. Then fill in the online application on www.hec.edu/applytomasters

Located at the heart of the school, the career department strives to help students build their career plan and to provide the best possible internship and job opportunities.

The resources available are:

  • The Career and Corporate Information Center which provides students with up-to-date job & internship opportunities
  • The Career Services which organize company presentations, seminars, conferences, round tables, mock interviews with recruiters, meetings with alumni and job/internship events throughout the year.

More than 260 companies are present at HEC during the year, as well as over 360 events annually.  Specific events are organized throughout the year, such as:

  • Company Presentations
  • International Finance Career Fair
  • Legal & Fiscal Career Fair
  • Consulting Career Fair
  • International Career Fair
  • Alumni Career Fair
  • Internship Fair

HEC graduates have numerous career options. They are mostly interested in opportunities in Finance, Consulting, Marketing, Sales, Auditing, Law, and Management Control, etc.

The HEC Alumni is based on campus and HEC graduates often come to the campus to talk about their jobs and companies. They will help you define your professional goals and guide you in your search for jobs and internships. Every HEC Paris student is considered as a junior member of the association and can therefore have access to the whole network.

Because of the diversified variety of employment sectors throughout the world, from developed to third world countries, from finance/consultancy to sustainable development, salaries vary from one region to another.

Yes, students can rent apartments either in Jouy-en-Josas (close to campus), in Versailles or in Paris. We cannot guarantee accommodation off-campus and we must admit that housing, especially in Paris, is very expensive.

HEC has a 1600 m² sports hall (tennis, basketball, handball, volleyball, badminton and climbing wall) and 8000 m² of outdoor fields including 2 soccer fields (1 hard surface and 1 turf) a rugby field, tracks and fields, and a 9-hole golf course. All students are invited to join our clubs and associations, whether at competitive or beginner’s level (provided that matches do not interfere with the course requirements).

Yes, over 130 clubs exist in different categories: sports, professional activities, culture, humanitarian aid, finance, public affairs and more. We suggest that all students participate in at least two associations.

See our Student societies section for more info.

Yes, HEC Paris offers all international students the possibility to live on campus. We do not offer kitchen facilities in the individual rooms.

Living expenses vary depending on where you live (on campus or not). You should count on approximately €1000 per month including housing, food, off-campus sports activities and leisure.

Mandatory Additional fees:

  • Participation in on-campus sports activities : €104 payable together with the first instalment
  • Health insurance : Non-European students are required to purchase the French Health Insurance (annual fee: €211). In addition all students are required to bring local travel insurance or to purchase the Insurance from the CCI Paris Ile-de-France (Chamber of Commerce and Industry) of €14 (annual fee)
  • Civil liability : Students will either have to prove that they have civil liability insurance included in their travel insurance, or purchase the CCI Paris Ile-de-France (Chamber of Commerce and Industry) insurance
  • Students must also provide the housing office with proof of home insurance. This insurance is often sold together with the Credit Card pack when opening a bank account.
  • The French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs allocates a large number of grants to international students. Use  Campus France - Grants Search Engine  to learn more
  • The French Government  Eiffel Scholarship  is open exclusively to  Autumn applicants, as the application deadline for this scholarship is fixed to the beginning of January
  • The Merit based Scholarship may be offered to high potential Grande Ecole students
  • Student loans: we encourage international students to apply for student loans in their home country as French banks generally require a guarantor living in France
  • Internship: The internship period is usually paid and thereby provides students with extra financial resources.

Banks do offer loans but they often require you to have a guarantor living in France. We suggest that you contact your local bank in your home country. They often have close links to certain banks in France.

The HEC MiM / Grande Ecole program welcomes applications from young and motivated candidates of all nationalities holding a University degree of at least three years having obtained 180 ECTS.

The HEC MiM / Grande Ecole program is a complete education in general management and therefore admissions are open to candidates from various fields of study (engineers, social sciences, sciences, arts, etc.), with little or no professional experience.

Applicants may apply for the HEC MiM - Grande Ecole program during the same year that they obtain their degree.

First, you have to create an account at hec.edu/applytomasters and then complete your application. You are able to submit an application when:

  • Your application form is 100% complete
  • You have uploaded all the required documents
  • You have paid the application fee of €110

You also have the possibility to apply to the Master in Management at HEC Paris and 4 other french Business Schools through Join a School in France. Please refer to the Join a School in France website .

We hold 4 admission rounds  for a single entry in September.

Your complete online application must be submitted prior to 11:59 AM (French Time) of the deadline.

For Join a School in France candidates, please refer to the  Join a School in France website .

  • Eligibility : Once the application is validated and the required documents have been uploaded to your HEC Paris applicant space at hecmasters.gomovein.com , the admissions team assesses the eligibility of the candidate’s application form. They check the conformity of the candidate’s experience and documents with the eligibility conditions of the program.
  • Admissibility : The admissibility results are published on your HEC applicant space following the screening of all eligible applications.  For 'Join a School in France' applicants, the results will be available through our website. Admissible candidates are invited to take part in an admissions interview, a 20-25 minute interview in English either by Skype or on campus. Candidates are encouraged to discuss their unique background, motivation, interests, and goals during this interview.
  • Admission : The admission results are published on your HEC applicant space following the interview and admissions jury (6 to 8 weeks after application deadlines. See admissions calendar) .
  • Integration : Admitted applicants must confirm their place by payment of the acceptance fees before each admission round’s relevant financial confirmation deadline.

This is a difficult question to answer and depends entirely on each candidate’s individual desires.

If you are only interested in applying to HEC Paris, then we advise you to choose the direct admission route: http://www.hec.edu/applytomasters . By applying through HEC directly, you will be given the opportunity to choose a second choice from our range of Master's programs.

Should you would wish for your application to be processed by the other 4 French management school members of the Join a School in France consortium, with the opportunity of gaining a place at one of these institutions, please apply through Join a School in France.

Please note that there is no preference from HEC Paris and that your application will be processed in the same manner either way. Furthermore, we insist that students choose only one admissions route, i.e. if you apply directly to HEC, you cannot apply to Join a School in France (and vice versa).

Only one application will be processed per candidate per year for each program unless there have been considerable changes to the information submitted. If an application is submitted both via Join a School in France and through HEC directly, only the application with the earliest validation deadline date will be processed.

No, HEC Paris only offers a full time Master program which begins in the September of each year.

There is no difference between the Admission Round criteria. All Admission Rounds are for a single entry in September. As there are no other entry points, we encourage you to apply early as the number of places are limited and admission is highly competitive.

The application must be filled out in English

No, while speaking French when applying is not mandatory, once admitted students are invited to register for a French language course (TEF certificate - all levels).

See Supporting Documents information

Your file will be entered into the current admissions process at the date of validation. It is the responsibility of the applicant to submit by the deadline date of the desired round. If your file is not ready for validation at the current round deadline, you can simply leave your file invalidated and the system will carry your file through to the next available admission round. Please make sure you study our admissions calendar and take note of the last available deadline date for your program. Once this date has passed, you will no longer be able to validate your file in the admissions year.

Yes. When filling in your application form, you can make two choices for the same Round. If you apply for two programs, your first choice is your preferred one.  Your second choice application will be transmitted for review only if your preferred first choice application is unsuccessful.  Please note that there is no specific calendar for your second choice and these applications will normally be dealt with in the following Admission Round

No. If selecting a first and second choice program, the application is filled in once and all sections must be complete by the round deadline. For two programs, you will be asked to complete two different essay sections. Although the essay questions may remain identical, it is your answer regarding each separate program which will be studied by the different admission juries.

An email notification is sent to you to confirm your application has been successfully validated and inform you in which Admission Round your file will be processed. The message on your online application’s page will change to submitted and you will have access only to the PDF version of your application. If you do not receive an email receipt from us nor see this status change, your file may not have been correctly validated. Please log back into your file and double check that all sections are at 100%.

Once you have submitted your application, you will no longer be able to modify your file. For any personal contact changes, please email [email protected] . If invited to the interview stage you may inform the Jury of other updates at that time (test scores, internships etc).

To track the progress of your application you should login to your application twice:

  • On the Interview Admissibility publication date to know if you have been shortlisted for an interview and if so, book an interview slot.
  • On the Admission publication date to know if you have been offered admission*

(*) Please note that these dates concern your first choice master. If unsuccessful to your first choice application, your second choice application is transmitted for review.   Second choice applications will normally be reviewed in the following Admission Round.

After being processed by the Admissions Team, the application is reviewed and evaluated by the Academic Director of the program you are applying for. Finally, the applications are reviewed by the Admission Committee set up by the Dean of HEC Paris, the Associate Dean, the Admissions Director and Academic Directors of HEC Paris Master Programs.

If you apply for two programs, your first choice is your preferred one.  Your second choice application will be transmitted for review only if your preferred first choice application is unsuccessful.  Please note that second choice applications will normally be reviewed in the following Admission Round.

There is no specific calendar for your second choice. Second choice applications will normally be reviewed in the following Admission Round.

The Admission Committee bases its decision on the strength of the application as a whole. If one area is a little weak, it might be overcome by outstanding attributes in another.

Yes, you are required to provide a test score for one of these three tests unless you are applying for one of our Double Degree programs where specific criteria apply (See your programs supporting documents section).

We do not have a preference.

No. In the least, your unofficial score available on the test date must be uploaded to your application form by the deadline. Incomplete applications cannot be submitted.

No.  You are advised to wait until your application is complete including the official management test scorecard (test taker copy) before submitting.

If on the deadline date, you have still not received the official score results, we will exceptionally take your unofficial GMAT or GRE score given on the day of the test or a screenshot of your GMAT or GRE score from the respective websites.  Once the official scores are available to you, they must be scanned and sent by email to [email protected] .  The HEC admissions team takes no responsibility for updating non-communicated scores.

  • For the GMAT, instruct Pearson VUE to send your official GMAT scores directly to the HEC Paris Master Programs (HEC Paris code is OTL-6C-89), please select Grande Ecole Master in Management if your program does not appear).
  • For the GRE, instruct Educational Testing Service (ETS) to send your official scores directly to HEC Paris (HEC Paris code is 3623, choose any department code).
  • For the TAGE MAGE, HEC Paris will verify your score directly with FNEGE. There is no reporting procedure to be made by the applicant. Please ensure your TAGE MAGE test is taken before the application deadline.

You will not be able to submit your application, as it must be complete by the application deadline. Your file will be automatically transferred to the next available admissions round. Please make sure your file is complete and validated by the final admission round for your program as no extentions will be given. (For more information on changing admission rounds, please see: I have started an online application for Round ! but I am not ready to submit it by the given deadline. What should I do? )

We recommend that you take the GMAT/GRE/TAGE MAGE test at least 2 weeks in advance of submitting your application.

No, we cannot confirm receipt of your official GMAT/GRE score. Please check with the test organizing institution you have designated the HEC Program code to receive your scores. We only contact you if the official scores did not reach HEC before the admission results are made available to applicants.

No. All applicants are required to submit valid test scores for either the GMAT, the GRE or the TAGE MAGE.

GMAT, GRE and TAGE MAGE scores are valid for 5 years and must be taken before submitting your application.

There are no minimum required or minimum cut-off scores for applying to the HEC Master Programs. We accept applicants with a wide range of scores. If you have taken a test several times, the Admissions will consider only your highest score when reviewing your application.

No, if you have taken your test more than once, you can choose to submit your highest score

The median GMAT for the last intake was 710.

The average TAGE-MAGE for the last intake was 440.

Yes. We consider all elements of your application, so it is important that you make each element as strong as possible. An average GMAT, GRE or TAGE MAGE test can be offset by other positive points in your application file. In some cases, a management test retake may be requested by HEC Paris.

No. Only one test will be taken into consideration by the Admissions Office. It is the applicant’s responsibility to choose which test will be submitted in the application.

All applicants are required to take one of the following English tests: TOEFL  or TOEIC  or IELTS  or Cambridge . All four sections must be graded: Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening. This test is waived only for the following:

  • English natives
  • Students who have earned a degree from an institution in which ALL instruction is conducted in English. The official language of the degree program has to be stated in the degree certificate or its supplement, or in the transcript of records.

You are still required to take an English language test.

All English test results are valid for 5 years, except Cambridge certificates which have unlimited validity. Tests must be valid on the deadline of the program you are applying for.

For the TOEFL : your local center might ask you for the HEC Paris institutional code in order to transfer your test results confidentially to us. This code number is 0718.

For the TOEIC : send to [email protected]

For the Cambridge tests : send to [email protected]  your unique ID number and your secret number. By sharing this information, you give us permission to verify the result. For more information: www.cambridgeenglish.org

For the IELTS  you have 2 options:

  • Before taking the test you should nominate on the IELTS Application form HEC Paris School of Management as your score test recipient institution. Please fill in the next information: Name of person/department: Masters Programs/Admissions Office Name of institution/agency/body/employer: HEC Paris School of Management Address : 1, rue de la Libération, 78351 Jouy en Josas CEDEX, France
  • after the issue of IELTS results, please send to your personal Test Report Form number (TRF) to [email protected] . By sharing this information, you give us the permission to verify the result. For more information: www.ielts.org

No. There is no minimum English test requirement. However, a complete command of the English language including proficiency in reading, writing and speaking is essential for success in our Programs, as the lessons are conducted in English

Yes. When submitting your application, you may upload the screen shot of your score available to you online. Your official score sent by the test organizing institution must reach HEC before the admission results are published for verification purposes.

No. Please check with the test organizing institution directly. We only contact you if the official scores did not reach HEC before the admission results are made available to applicants.

A Certificate of Attendance is a document provided by your University that confirms your student status, program of study, level and duration of program.

You must have the Degree/Certificate of Attendance/Transcript translated by an official translating service. You must upload both the original and the translated version compiled in one single document.

If you have attended study abroad programs or exchanges, please include these transcripts, if available, as a single PDF document in the Education section.

Preferably, a one-page CV should be submitted as this avoids any information being overlooked by our Admissions Jury and Interview Jury.

We do accept two-page CVs scanned as on PDF document but no longer than two pages max.

A Motivation Letter is not required; we request an uploaded copy of your CV and a completed Essay Section for application validation, which are of utmost importance.

An additional Motivation Letter is not compulsory and will not affect the processing of your application.

In the past, some candidates have still wanted to include a copy of their Motivation Letter with the CV scan to provide further information they felt was not covered in the Essay section.

If you wish to add this document to your application, we would prefer a one-page maximum, computer-generated copy rather than a hand-written letter.

The required documents must be scanned and uploaded in the "Supporting documents" section of your application. The online application system allows for documents to be uploaded in PDF format only and your photo in .JPEG version only. When converting paper documents into electronic PDF files, make sure:

  • the file doesn’t exceed 30 MB
  • the format of your files is the A4 (210 x 297mm) ISO standardized format (8.3 x 11.7 in)
  • scan all multi-page documents into one PDF file for upload (ex. All Transcript pages should be scanned and saved into one file)

This should be achievable by using the correct scanning settings.

After you upload your documents, preview the pages to make sure that the pages are clearly legible. If not:

  • Re-scan the pages
  • Save them again
  • Delete the documents in the appropriate field
  • Upload the re-scanned documents

To reduce the size of the file, please try one of the following

  • Lower the resolution
  • Reduce the height and width of the image
  • Scan in black and white
  • Scan your documents into .jpeg format first and then convert them into pdf files (right click then select Convert into pdf format), rather than scanning them directly into pdf format.

Transcripts must be scanned and uploaded to the application as a single PDF file. Please, do not mail the hard copy of your transcripts. You may upload an “unofficial” or student copy of your transcripts. However, we will request an official copy for verification purposes should you be admitted to HEC Paris.

If your transcripts have multiple pages, they must be scanned into a single PDF document before uploading. You will not be able to upload transcript pages individually.

No. There is no minimum GPA requirement to apply for variances in grading systems around the world.

For each degree, enter the grade using the grading scale of your Average Grade (grade point average) indicated on your transcript (ex : 3/4, 7.1/10, 82/100). If you do not have any average for your degree, you have to calculate it and state the scale and period included in the calculation.

You can enter all types of work experience in the Education and Experience section as well as detailing these experiences on your CV (Resumé).

Yes. Please choose the correct type of experience in the Education & Experience section.

The short essays are an important part of the application process. For more information, please contact our recruitment team at [email protected]

It is the applicant’s responsibility to request and collect letters of recommendation from their referees. These letters must be scanned and uploaded in PDF format to the application’s Reference section prior to the deadline date.

Two letters must be uploaded to your application in order to validate the section. A third is optional.

The letters of recommendation in your first choice application will automatically be used for your second choice application.

Recommenders should be professors or employers who know the applicant well. However, at least one reference should ideally be academic.

Yes, if you deem that your employer knows you better than your professors.

You are able to ask for a link to be sent to your referees directly during the application process. As such, when selecting your way of uploading your letter of recommendation, you can choose the option for HEC to send an email to your selected referee, who will then be asked to write you a letter and upload it directly to your applicant space.

  • Direct HEC Paris candidate application fees amount to €110 and can be paid online from your admissions space. Note that CEMS network candidates are exempt from the application fee.
  • For candidates applying through Join a School in France, the application fee is €190 and must be paid to Join a School in France when you submit your application.

No. You pay only once whether you apply for 1 or 2 Masters in the same application Round.

No. The application fee is waived only for:

  • Applicants from International Pre-selected Universities Schools and HEC Partner Institutions for which the home school will notify the applicants of the admission process.
  • Applicants to a Double Degree between HEC Paris and their home university.

Only Admissible (shortlisted) applicants are invited to take the interview.

To know if you are Admissible and invited to take the interview, you have to connect to your Applicant Space by the Admissibility Results Date (see calendar ).

The day the admissibility results are made available, you are invited to choose, via your applicant space page, your interview date, time and type (on campus or by Skype). Once you are offered an interview, it becomes a required part of the application process. Please register for an interview slot online as soon as possible as the slots are offered on a first come first served basis.

For students residing in France, the effort to come to meet us will be appreciated.

For international students, we understand that Skype is more convenient in most cases.

  • If you have applied directly to HEC you can choose to come to HEC campus or have a Skype interview.
  • If you have applied through Join a School in France you will undergo the interview in one of the 70 centres worldwide

The interviews are generally conducted by a Director of the Grande Ecole with HEC professors or Alumni.

Interviews are conducted in English.

For Join a School in France candidates, please refer to the J oin a School in France  website for more information about the interview process.

The main objective of the interview is to explore the quality of the match between the objectives of the applicant and what the program has to offer. We not only want to select the best candidates but also make sure that HEC Paris is the best next step for them. You should thus definitely expect career-related questions. We are keen on getting students who are passionate meaning we also frequently ask questions about recent business news. Other questions may depend on your profile: as we want to get to know you better, we will certainly ask about the most striking experiences on your CV, be they professional or extra-curricular.

The purpose of the interview is to better understand your motivations for our programs. But it is both evaluative and informative. It is not only an opportunity for us to learn more about you, but also for you to learn more about HEC Paris.

No. We do not provide such feedback.

The admission decisions are released via the applicant space. Please note that in cases where you have applied to multiple programs, you will have a separate decision for each application you have submitted.

When reviewing an application, the Final Admission Jury will make one of the following decisions:

  • Admitted : we offer clear admission to highly qualified applicants.
  • Conditional Offer : we offer conditional admission to applicants who clearly demonstrate significant potential for success but who we feel need additional improvement on the application. The Admissions office informs each applicant individually of the requirements or conditions that must be met before the student will be offered full admission.
  • Waiting list : applicants can expect to remain on the waiting list until the following rounds of decision are released. There is no rank order to the waiting list. This policy is designed to create an admission process that is fair and equitable for all Admission Round applicants.
  • Deferred Decision : The Admissions Jury has decided to postpone its decision until the next Admissions Jury.
  • Non admitted

Applications can be re-reviewed by the Admissions Committee at any time, but this typically happens between March and June. Applicants may be offered admission, their waiting list status may be extended, or they may be released and encouraged to reapply the following year.

The number of candidates placed on the waiting list fluctuates from year to year, depending on the size and quality of the applicant pool.

Whether we admit from the waiting list and the number of candidates admitted varies, depending on application numbers and enrolment for a given year.

HEC Paris does not rank applicants on the waiting list. Instead, each wait-listed applicant's file is reviewed and compared with other admitted applicants.

No, the Admission and Admissibility committees form their decision upon the overall context of the applicants’ pool and therefore cannot make specific feedback as to why certain applicants have been unsuccessful on this occasion.

Yes. But we generally do not encourage it.  We will only reconsider your application if there is some new information which adds significant weight to your reapplication. If there is no new information, no purpose can be served by reapplying.

Yes. If you decide to reapply for the intake of the year after your original application, you have to resubmit an entirely new application. It is your responsibility to ensure that all sections are newly completed.

The application fee is not waived for re-applicants.

According to the HEC Paris Admission rules, the admission decisions are final and there is no process for appeal.

Yes. A non-refundable security deposit must be submitted upon accepting an offer of admissions from HEC Paris to secure the new student’s place.

Admitted students will be asked to confirm their seats within 3 weeks after final results are announced with a non-refundable enrolment deposit of €5000, which will be deducted from their total tuition fees.

The selection for HEC Paris is competitive, and we receive many more applications than there are places available. Therefore, we will ask you to pay acceptance fees to confirm your place.

  • If you are admitted to Round 1  and  you have applied for the Eiffel Scholarship: December 13, 2019.
  • If you are admitted to Round 1: December 19, 2019 for first choice applicants or January 10, 2020 for second choice applicants.
  • If you are admitted to Round 2: March 19, 2020.
  • If you are admitted to Round 3: May 14,  2020.
  • If you are admitted to Round 4: June 29, 2020.

No. There is no waiver for the acceptance fees.

HEC Paris send receipts for acceptance fee payments along with your enrollment certificate and welcome pack.

The deposit will appear as credit and will be used as part of the student’s tuition fee .

If your payment does not successfully process, we will notify you by email. The email will be sent to the email address indicated in your application. It is important to note that your acceptance for admission will not be confirmed until you successfully pay your acceptance fees.

You should send an email to [email protected] .

Accepting admission and paying the acceptance fees secures a place in our class. If you do not submit the acceptance fees by the deadline, there may not be a space left for you. If you have not successfully completed the process by this time, you will not be allowed to enroll at HEC Paris.

Please notify [email protected] with [email protected]  on copy as soon as possible if you have decided not to attend. If you have paid the acceptance fees, this amount will be forfeited as the deposit is non-refundable. If you consider enrolling at HEC Paris next year, you may defer your admission (see Deferring the Admission section) .

You must begin your application procedure as early as possible, ideally about 3 months before coming to France.

The Enrollment Certificate is usually required before a student visa can be granted. The Enrollment Certificate includes the student’s name, the degree program, the dates enrolled and expected graduation date.

The Enrollment Certificate will be available in your applicant space as a receipt has been issued by our Financial Services (approximately 21 days after payment of the acceptance fees). We use the current address that was indicated in your application form when mailing the documents.

Please send an email with your current address to [email protected]

Deferrals are only granted in exceptional cases and are offered on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of both the Academic Director and the Director of Admissions. Deferral requests must be submitted by email to [email protected] (one month prior to the September intake at the latest). Please include a statement outlining the reasons for your deferral request and detail activities planned during the year of the deferral request. Please note that the signed amendment and financial confirmation of your place is mandatory to defer an admission (see: if admitted, will I be required to pay any acceptance fees? ) .

Approval of deferral requests may be granted for up to a maximum of one year.

A deferral of admission will not automatically include deferral of merit-based scholarship. Your application will be reconsidered along with the new applications received.

If you're granted an admission deferral and have applied for residence, you should notify the Housing Service directly ( [email protected] ).

Yes. Your offer of admission is contingent on successful completion of all courses in progress or planned prior to your entry to HEC Paris. You have to bring and show your original degree certificate and transcripts for verification purposes to the Academic Affairs Office in person, at the beginning of term in September, once on campus.

This document can have different aspects: a degree, a transcript where it's written that you have graduated, a certificate.

Deadline for documents presentation is November 1st .

No, HEC needs to see the original document, either your degree or official transcripts with your university's seal.

If your original documents are not in English, please bring a certified translation with you.
