These harmful gasses are released by vehicles, dust, dirt, and poisonous gasses from the manufacturing factories. The use of vehicles or the products made at factories may make our lives easy but it also has caused a lot of effects on the environment. The harmful gasses released from vehicles and factories cause a lot of respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, etc. The harmful pollutants in the air can cause the ozone layer to deplete which leads to the ultraviolet rays entering the earth’s atmosphere which can cause serious health problems, even cancer. Radioactive pollution is a product of air pollution that has a serious effect on living organisms. Some of the harmful effects of Radioactive pollution are skin cancer, burning of the skin, etc.

Water pollution is caused when toxic substances get mixed in water bodies such as rivers, lakes, and oceans. Similarly, soil pollution is the contamination of the soil with toxic pollutants. The toxic substances could be the chemicals present in fertilizers, pesticides, and industrial chemicals.

Though we receive the benefits of using the products from industries knowingly and unknowingly we are the reason for exploiting the earth. We overuse the resources provided by mother nature and then are so careless to not think about the future. One example of overuse of the resources of nature is the use of fertilizers to increase the production of crops. Though there is an increase in the production of crops due to fertilizers it has also become the reason for land and water pollution due to the presence of the chemicals in the fertilizers. We can also give the example of Industries to get us products that ease our life but the toxic gasses released from the factories are destroying the Earth.

So how can we correct things? how can we make sure that we don’t exploit nature?. As a community, it is our sole responsibility to fight against pollution by using eco-friendly things instead of using the non-biodegradable substances. Pollution of any kind cannot be eliminated completely but it can be controlled. We can overcome pollution by taking small measures in our day-to-day lives. We should be aware of small preventive measures that could help in controlling pollution. Do not throw domestic waste near the water bodies, instead throw the garbage at the garbage disposal site. Avoid using vehicles as it causes pollution. Carpooling and bike pooling are the best methods of reducing the usage of many vehicles, electric cars and bikes could be used instead of the vehicles which run on petrol and diesel.

The history of pollution is older than one century. In 1896, a Swedish scientist named Svante Arrhenius first predicted the changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels, which may substantially increase the surface temperature and because a major cause of global warming.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was the outcome of this international climate convention. Today, our terrestrial and marine ecosystems are facing existential threats due to pollution. Deforestation, industrial waste, and chemical pollutants are wreaking havoc on biodiversity. The loss of habitats, the decline of species, and the imbalance in our ecosystems paint a grim picture of the toll pollution takes on our natural world.

Good Morning Class Teacher and All My Dear Friends! Today, as you all know is Wednesday and the speech giving day and my speech topic is Air Pollution.

Since air pollution has become an alarming issue these days; air pollution is defined by W.H.O. (World Health Organization) as “the presence in air, of substances put there by acts of man in concentrations sufficient to interfere with the comfort, safety, or health of man or with the full use or enjoyment of his property. The presence of contaminants in the atmosphere is considered to be in sufficient quantities and duration, to cause them to be injurious to human health, animal and plant life and reduce welfare in general.”

There are two main causes of air pollution, i.e. Man-made Cause and Natural Causes.

Man-made Causes:

a) There are several factors affecting air pollution, such as we have chemical factories, refineries of petrol, industries of textile, paper and pulp, etc. Besides, the industries as small as that of the brick making as well as foundries also play a huge role in causing air pollution.

b) Several pesticides are spread on the fields. This spraying of pesticides increases the level of chemicals in our atmosphere and causes pollution in the atmosphere.

c) Increase in the number of vehicles on the road is yet another major cause of air pollution, particularly in the big cities. There are other major causes, such as old, worn out vehicles running on the road, long-minute traffic congestion, uneven roads and improper traffic management authority.

d) Those people who in slums or small towns do not have properly ventilated homes and when they use such methods of cooking as wood and coal in their household stoves – they further contribute in causing air pollution. And this happens in the underdeveloped nations. We shouldn’t have smoky indoor air for an obvious reason that it would affect the health of both small children and adults.

e) The power stations are mainly run on petroleum or coal so that they can generate power and heat which in turn emanates sulphur dioxide (SO2) along with smoke. As per the studies, the thermal power stations release nearly 2/3 rd of the total SO2 released in the atmosphere. These gases are really toxic for our atmosphere and causes air pollution.

f) As a matter of fact, mining activities is also one of the major factors causing air pollution because the underground activities such as these generate a lot of dust. During mining, dust gets released from stockpiles, blasting excavation, transportation of ore, crushing, etc. The situation is further aggravated when wind blows and it takes away the dirt from one place to the other.

Natural Causes:

Just like man-made causes, there are natural causes of air pollution too, such as dust storms, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, spores of fungus, flowers’ pollen grains, etc.

However, we can control air pollution through various means, such as Plantation, i.e. by planting more and more trees and secondly by using compressed natural gas (CNG) and unleaded petrol. We can also look for some alternate energy sources which are environment friendly or causes little harm.

Hello Friends – Welcome to yet another speech giving assembly!

Hope you all are doing well! As we know that the topic which needs to be addressed today is Air Pollution and I want the participation of each one of you because everyone, including me is responsible for causing air pollution.

We do not live and breathe in a pure environment – the air is polluted, water is contaminated, food is polluted and what not! And unfortunately more than the natural factors, it’s the human agency which is primarily responsible for causing air pollution. The air that we breathe has become so toxic these days that half of the illnesses caused to us is primarily due to the polluted environment.

The human agencies responsible for causing air pollution can be divided into various categories, but those chiefly responsible are those caused by the automobiles and the industries.

Automobiles are a serious threat to our environment and in the last decade the pollution caused due to these vehicles has increased manifold in the Metropolitan cities, such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad. The exhausts that are emitted from the vehicles are particulate matter, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and unburnt hydrocarbons, including a few carcinogenic organic compounds, such as polyaromatic hydrocarbons and benzene – which cause a serious impact on our health.

The government should encourage the use of public transport and there should be a separate lane for the bicycles to ply. People should be urged to walk a few kilometers rather than riding a personal vehicle. These small, small measures can cause a significant change in the quality of air.

But did you know that there are certain other conditions affecting the emission of gases from the vehicles and lead to more air pollution. These are lack of maintenance of these vehicles, when they are old and obsolete, due to cramped roads and also because of poor management system.

The pollution is increasing not only because of the increasing number of vehicles on the road, but also due to the reasons mentioned above. It is therefore required of us to ensure the maintenance and inspection of these vehicles from time to time in order to keep a check on the emission rate when the vehicle is out on the road. There are certain testing centers, such as AETCs, i.e. The Auto Emission Testing Centers that play a significant role in keeping a check on the emission rate of the in-use automobiles.

Industrial pollution is yet another major source of air pollution. Industrial pollution not only causes water pollution, but also deteriorates the quality of air. It is because of the huge expansion of the industries and machines replacing the manual labour that the quality of air has become even worse.

Immediate steps need to be taken to combat the situation of rising air pollution otherwise a time will come when we will not even be able to breathe and no life would be imaginable on this planet. So let’s save our Mother Earth and prevent the air from becoming further toxic.

I hope, through my speech, I could stir the sentiments of a lot of people and make them realize as to where we are going wrong.

However, before we begin this conference, I would like to take a few minutes of yours and address a very important issue which is in fact a point of discussion today, i.e. Air Pollution. Air pollution is no longer a problem of our country, but has rather become a global phenomenon and we human beings are majorly responsible for this disaster.

Please let me be very honest and say that we are the most selfish race on this earth as we only think of ourselves and work towards making our lives comfortable. We have constructed these big factories to manufacture products and also vehicles in order to travel faster from one place to the other. Technology is really a boon for us and they have made our lives comfortable; however the cost that we have paid in return is really massive.

Ladies and Gentlemen, air is the most abundant natural resource available to us and we are not able to assess its worth so much so that we pollute this very air which we breathe. This is the reason why air pollution has become a huge concern these days. Government and environmentalists are trying their best to bring down the level of air pollution, but this is not an overnight change as it’ll require both time and efforts on their part to bring about a change in society and make people adopt a pristine lifestyle which our ancestors lived.

Other than emission from the vehicles, there are several other man-made activities that heavily contribute towards air pollution and global warming, such as Deforestation, Mining, Agriculture, power plant which we run on fossil fuel, etc. In fact, smoking also significantly contributes towards causing air pollution. Don’t be surprised? A smoker is responsible for adding nearly 40 carcinogens to the environment using only one smoke. Even though it’s a micro level pollutant yet its harmful effects are no way less than the macro level pollutants.

It’s an alarming time now as air pollution has become one of the chief reasons behind the declining health status of the people. Right from causing respiratory problems such as COPD, i.e. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder to bronchitis, cancer, heart ailments, skin cancer, allergy, asthma, etc pollution has caused a great havoc in the lives of the people.

Cough, cold and pneumonia are some of the diseases which almost every other man suffers with, your next door. Isn’t it? Pollution is also slowly and gradually destroying our immune system so much so that we have become prone to various other health problems.

The time is demanding and we must adopt some concrete measures in order to check air pollution and improving life on earth. With this I rest my speech!

Respected Principal, Vice Principal, Teachers and My Dear Friends – Warm Greetings to one and all!

I – Sakshi Tanwar from Class-XII (B) – welcome everyone to our school auditorium. As you know that today we are celebrating the World Environment Day by planting more trees and putting up banners around our school in order to spread the awareness about how important it is for us to protect our nature and save the environment from the rising pollution.

However, as I stand today in front of you, I wish to deliver a brief Speech on Air Pollution. The issue of air pollution has become a global concern now as it has reached an alarming stage and this is not a good news particularly for those suffering from certain respiratory conditions, such as asthma or those who are above 65 years of age.

Other than anthropogenic (man-made) activities which are responsible for causing air pollution; the season of summer has also a major role to play. As the temperatures soars, exhaust from cars, trucks and buses, including the common air-borne particles from power plants react with sunlight and heat to produce ground level ozone. Ozone as we all know poses a serious issue to our health, especially those who are heart patients or are suffering from respiratory diseases such as COPD and asthma.

Air pollution can exacerbate the problem of asthma or even can aid in its development in people who aren’t suffering from it. Isn’t that worse? Ozone acts as an irritant which can further impact the functioning of the lungs of those who are already suffering from certain respiratory conditions. One more important fact to note that the particulate matter and Nitrates which are a byproduct of combustion engines, found particularly in trucks and buses can cause severe asthma attacks.

The quality of air is deteriorating day by day and more so because we are chopping off trees which release oxygen in the atmosphere. We are not just cutting these trees, but effacing from the earth a vital source of life on earth. Deforestation is happening for many reasons such as for commercialization, urbanization or industrialization – reason could be many, but we are causing a serious harm to our environment and are also putting our lives in danger.

On the top of it, when our farmers burn the waste crop, they also contribute a lot to the rising air pollution by releasing harmful gases to the environment. Likewise, we also have the cases of unlawful burning of garbage.

All these activities are really threatening for our environment and the government needs to take strict measures in order to combat the situation. This is all from my side!

A warm welcome to one & all present here. Today we are here to discuss the very burning topic of the decade that is pollution. According to a report by the World Health Organization, eleven out of twelve cities with the highest levels of particulate pollution are located in India. A study says 86% of the Indian water bodies are deemed critically polluted. Land pollution has resulted in a loss of around 25 billion tons of valuable soil each year.

As per the Global Burden of Disease Report by the World Health Organization, the prevalence of hearing loss was estimated to be 6.3% in India due to noise pollution. These are the few reports which have become often in today’s media & still we are not serious about the problem. Air Pollution in India has become a severe problem. As per a study, at least 140 million people in India breathe air that is ten times over the safe limit.

57% of the total air pollution are by the industries, 27% by vehicles, 17% by crop burning & around 5% by Diwali fireworks. India, as a country, is the third-largest greenhouse gas producer after China and the United States. There is a decrease in the Air Quality Index of all the major cities of the country. All these have resulted in an increase in several airborne diseases & the premature deaths in India.

Now the second type of pollution which has impacted is water pollution. The largest source of water pollution is untreated sewage. Other factors include agricultural runoff & unregulated small scale industries, solid wastes etc. These factors have resulted in contamination of both surface water & groundwater. Lack of toilets & defecation is also adding to the cause. Many rivers water has been declared unfit for domestic use due to high pollution with organic matter.

Not only humans but also the life in water is getting adversely affected by this.Now let us briefly discuss the land degradation. Soil Contamination or land pollution is caused by xenobiotic chemicals or other alteration in the natural soil. It is due to the intensive farming, deforestation, improper disposal of wastes & industrial activities. Except for these few major pollution’s, there are several other types of pollution’s like noise pollution, light pollution, plastic pollution which has been ignored since long.

Pollution cannot be seen or felt, but its effects are evident on the earth & the biodiversity. Global warming, increase in sea level, extinction of species, scarcity of drinking water, decrease in air quality, acid rain etc. are few major impacts which are posing a threat to the existence of human life on earth. To sum it up, all types of pollution’s are detrimental to the planet & comes with terrible consequences.

All of us must take steps to bring the changes in industries to the individual level. A joint effort by the government & the citizens will curb the situation from getting worse. So let us make a stand for our mother earth & listen to its pains to save it from the upcoming global calamity.

According to an estimation by the World Health Organization, air pollution causes premature death of around 8.8 million people worldwide which is likely to increase in coming years.

Water pollution has raised the alarming issue of the sharp decrease in domestic water for use. Land pollution has resulted in a loss of around 25 billion tons of valuable soil each year. Noise pollution has affected both behaviour & health of humans. Not only the humans but pollution has given a significant threat to the flora & fauna on the earth too.

Pollution has also led to many more serious problems like global warming , melting of polar ice, ozone layer depletion, and climatic disturbances on a global level. The reasons are many & all of us need to acknowledge that we have created a threat to life on earth. The consequences of pollution are hazardous. We must become more alert & proactive towards the situation & make every effort to turn the situation another way around.

All of us must pledge to bring a better tomorrow for the World. With an urge for everyone to give their best in the joint effort to eliminate pollution, I would like to end my speech.

The earth that we live in today is far from its pristine and natural form . I am sure that most teachers and students here would agree with my statement.

Some of the changes that the planet has undergone have been a part of the natural and gradual process of evolution. However not all of them have been so. Many of the most recent and rapid changes have been induced by human beings. To give a more understandable name to this, we can call it pollution.

Pollution is a product of human exploitation of the environment . Man who has come on control over nature in the recent centuries, have exploited it mindless without an understanding of the consequences resulting in unexpected changes that we are trying to combat today.

We can define pollution as the introduction of contaminant s into the natural environment which causes adverse change and damage to the environm ent. Pollution of the environment can be broken down into the pollution of the various components of the environment. There is air pollution, water pollution, land pollution, noise pollution and light pollution . Most of us are familiar with air, water and land pollution. The newer additions are noise and light pollution. Noise pollution basically refers to the excessive noise that is created by human activity from processions to industrial activity. Light pollution refers to the excessive light concentration from artificial sources. These sources of pollution are found to have negative and pervasive effects on the individual as well as the environment .

In conclusion to this speech, I would like to end by saying that we have caused harm to the environment and are suffering the consequences of the same. The problem is that it is not the ones responsible that are facing the consequences. But we can all work together to prevent the consequences from becoming worse and also to renew the environment. It is in our hands to be the change that we want in this world.

I feel honored to present my speech on Pollution.

Pollution is the unwanted process by which our environment becomes impure or dangerous. In our environment, there are many harmful substances or pollutants. The presence of pollutants in our natural environment such as air, water, soil, etc., makes it dangerous for living-beings.

Pollution is everywhere. There are dusts, and polluted gases in the air we breathe. The fresh water systems are mixed with impure chemicals. The soil has become contaminated and not fit for agriculture.

The causes of pollution are many. Most of them are very often related to human activities. Air is polluted when harmful gases are emitted from vehicles and factories. Loud noises of heavy machinery causes noise pollution. Contaminated groundwater, pesticides, and acid rain causes soil erosion. Untreated disposal of factory wastes has caused much harm to the fresh water bodies such as rivers, lakes, and underground water.

The effect of pollution is very bad. Breathing impure air is not safe for human health. Loud noises may damage the hearing capability of humans. The ecosystem and biodiversity of both the fresh water systems and oceans get damaged due to pollution. Water pollution may lead to scarcity of potable water. Contaminated soil is neither safe for cultivation, not it is fertile enough for crop growing in abundance. Further, massive release of greenhouse gases may give rise to environmental problems such global warming and climate change.

The solution to the gigantic problem called pollution lies somewhere the way we consume and use various things in our life. More reliance on renewable energy sources for energy generation will surely help in reducing pollution. Planting trees and supporting various afforestation projects can help in reducing pollution and soil erosion. Plants and trees also purifies the air. Organic farming is the answer to the problem of soil erosion due to the excessive use of pesticides. The fertility of the soil remains unaffected if natural manures are used.

Thus, we find that though the modern era is an era of urbanization and comforts, it has come at the cost of polluting the environment. Now, it is the time for making concrete steps towards removing or controlling the factors that cause pollution. The youth of today desires a pollution free world. And, I am sure that they are committed to make it a reality.

We, humans, are always busy to find some easy way for our livelihood without Caring about our environment. We have destroyed our environment so that today we are facing consequences and day by day these problems will be raised. Good morning respected teachers and fellow students. Here I start my speech on pollution.

Pollution is affecting human life in many ways. But if we look at the reasons then we’ll find that we human has made such problems. Every natural element is polluted or about to get extinct . Currently, we are facing air pollution, water pollution, soil erosion, noise pollution, radioactive pollution, deforestation. These are the only few names. In the future, we might some more disastrous changes.

It’s getting hard to breathe . The amount of harmful component in the atmosphere is increasing day by day. The factories are created in the residential area. The smoke generated by the factories pollute the area and leads to several breathing issues of human lives. Fresh air is now only considered as a term. The vehicle is the basic thing for human and the amount of smoke it generates make human life deadly.

Along with polluting the air it also generates some harmful gases which are leading to global warming. Global warming is very harmful, as it is melting the glacier present in the Arctic region. And because of those glacier melting the temperature of the earth. Which is very harmful to the environment. The everyday temperature of the earth rises and the glacier is getting decreased. Which can also raise the problem of natural disasters.

Another serious problem faced because of vehicles is sound pollution. They blow unnecessarily horns. Listening loud music also leading noise pollution. These noise also troubles the animals that lives on street such as dogs.

Every natural substance is almost polluted. We are the social animals. Only we are the animals who can think or act smartly then why are we behaving worst than animals.

Variety of hazardous and toxic substances from different sources are getting intermingled into the environment and causing various types of pollution such as water, air, soil or land, noise, and thermal pollution.

Smokes and toxic dust from the industries and factories get mixed to the air and causes air pollution. Such polluted air is very bad for the lungs when we breathed air in. Sewage and other wastes from the industries and factories have their ways directly to the large water bodies (river, lakes, seas, etc) and they get mixed properly to the drinking water causes water pollution. Such polluted water (containing germs, bacteria, toxic substances, viruses, etc) is very bad to the health of human beings, animals and plants (whoever drinks this water).

Now-a-days, environment is not peaceful because of the increasing noise level through the transport, sound systems, electronic devices, etc. Such voices are causing noise pollution and very bad to the natural stamina of our ears. Excess and unbearable noise of vehicles, loud speakers, etc can cause ear problems and even permanent deafness especially in older people and kids.

Man-made chemicals from the industries and factories such as hydrocarbons, solvents, heavy metals, etc get mixed into the soil when people use herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, etc or through the spill or underground leakage of the chemicals. Such contaminants in the form of solid, liquid or gas are causing soil or land pollution which is contaminating the whole earth. Such contaminants are also causing water and air pollution as they get mixed to the underneath water supplies and some chemicals produce harmful vapors respectively.

Ever increasing the use of plastic by the people is causing huge level environmental pollution and adversely affecting the wildlife, wildlife habitat, and humans. Thermal pollution is increasing because of the huge level usage of water as a coolant by the power plants and industrial manufacturers. It is causing the change in temperature of water in the large water bodies. It is very harmful to the aquatic animals and plants as raised temperature of water decreases the oxygen level of water.

My dear friends, we have been surrounded by the thick cover of the pollution from all around means upside, downside, and both sides. We are living in pollution but the most surprising thing is that some people even do not aware of it. Big and developed countries are highly responsible to this increased level of pollution all around the world. This is the very challenging issue of this planet which needs to be solved on urgent basis. It cannot be solved by the effort one or two countries, however; it can only be solved if all the countries do hard and strict effort from various aspects regarding this issue.

Various countries have adopted some effective laws on pollution reduction however that are not enough to defeat this powerful demon. This needs conjoint governmental actions of all the countries to completely eliminate it. High level awareness should be spread to the common people to get their needed effort. Each and every person of the country should be aware and watchful of this problem, its causes, and harmful effects to the living beings. Use of harmful and toxic chemicals by the people, industries and factories should be banned very strictly by the government. Common people should be made aware by the educational institutions and government agencies through camps or other means to use environment friendly things and habits to save the environment and keep it healthy.

Good morning to the Sir, Madam, and my dear colleagues. My name is … I study in class … I would like to speech today on the topic of pollution in India. As we have gathered here to celebrate this event, I have selected this special topic to open in front of you in the favor of humanity. My dear friends, as we all are well aware of the word pollution. I want to tell you that pollution is a slow and sweet poison which is disturbing us and our living very badly in all the aspects such as physically, mentally, socially, and intellectually. It is not so easy to stop it at once however, not so tough to prevent it gradually.

The main causes of the pollution are wastes from the chemical industries and factories pouring their wastes directly into the large water bodies. Such contaminants gets introduced into the natural environment and causing adverse change. Pollution can be man-made or natural however pollution from the natural sources is less harming than the man-made. Pollutants or components of the pollution get intermingled into the natural resources such as water, air, soil, etc. Pollution was started from the prehistoric times however currently it has been boom because of the deforestation, urbanization, technological advancement, and advanced life style.

People should understand the importance of environment they live in and respect the one given by God to live a simple life on the earth (the only known planet having life). Various types of pollution such as water pollution, soil or land pollution, air pollution, and sound or noise pollution, all are very harmful to the health of human beings and animals. People have been used to of technological advancement in their lives and forgot about all the existing problems because of that. Use of various fertilizers and other chemicals in the agriculture for many years in order to get better and healthy crops has created serious problem to the humanity.

Increasing number of vehicles in the cities is another main cause of air pollution. Diesel vehicles are more dangerous than the petrol vehicles as they emit more carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, both are very harmful to the health and atmosphere. My dear friends, it is very necessary for the common public to be aware of the bad effects of pollution and run in the direction against pollution to reduce its effects. We should plant more green plants in the surrounding areas and sides of the roads in order to maintain the natural equilibrium in the environment.

Pollution is affecting our lives so we have to take individual steps and do every possible things what we can do. We should not depend only on our government actions for some positive changes. Common people like us are the main factor to stop the spread of pollution.

Good morning to the respected sir, madam and my friends. At this event, I would like to speech on pollution, the most serious issue of the modern time. The most powerful demon in the form of environmental pollution has disordered the ecological balance of the atmosphere. It is a big global issue however varies in its nature and extent with regional variations. It is the topic of anxiety and debate to solve this issue. It is not the time to accuse one another however it is the time to fight this demon together with some effective weapons. Rich, powerful and developed countries are highly responsible for such a huge spread of pollution and global warming however all countries are bearing this problem.

We have been the victim of this environmental pollution however we cannot deny that this problem is created by us. It is we who have given rise to this problem due to increased irregular consumption level of natural resources and living patterns of the modern time. Pollution is the result of fast urbanization, deforestation, industrialization, technologies and unmanageable wastes from industries and factories. It is getting boom because of the high consumption level of fertilizers in agriculture, emissions from chimneys, smoke from motor vehicles, etc.

Increased number of vehicles has increased the consumption level of fuels which is causing the air pollution to a great extent. Over population is another big issue of this ever increasing pollution. It has created the need of more houses, cutting of plants to make living places, and other modern needs of the people is leading to the pollution. No one is thinking about this issue but everyone is busy in money making and collecting things of physical comfort. Because of overpopulation the consumption of fresh water, consumption of wood, etc has increased. Increasing human needs of physical comfort (such as AC, TV, electricity, electronic devices, fertilizers, freeze, washing machine, etc) is directly related to the spread of pollution.

Now, we lack the fresh air to breathe, fresh water to drink, fresh land to get healthy crops, and peaceful environment to sleep. We are bearing all that because of our negligence and carelessness. We have to work hard continuously to get natural fresh environment to get real physical and mental comfort. We have to get control over this demon and save life here by planting more trees, well managing wastes from industries and factories, reducing need of heavy vehicles, and other effective steps.

Good morning to all. At this event celebration, I am going to recite a speech on pollution. My dear friends, pollution is not an unknown word for us. We are well aware of it, its causes and bad effects on the environment and our lives. A natural environmental contains everything required for the survival, growth, and development of the living beings on earth. However, what happened if this environment gets polluted by various means. Everything will get disturb and interfere with the survival of life here.

Pollution has happened because of the mixing of dangerous unnatural ingredients into the natural resources which causes imbalance in the ecosystem and thus various health hazards to the human beings and animals. Pollution is damaging the ecosystem and destroying the balance. This is all because of the industrialization, urbanization, deforestation, technological advancement, over population, etc. All these are the big reason of increasing level of toxic gases (causing air pollution), solids/liquids wastes (causing water, food and soil pollution) and sound (causing noise pollution). All are the reason of imbalance in the natural ecosystem in some direct or indirect ways.

It has been the matter of great concern and consideration and need to solve. Because of the pollution, babies are born with variety of birth defects and life expectancy of people has been low because of the lethal diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart problem, etc. I want to share you some facts about pollution: According to the WHO, around 6.7% percent of all deaths and 7 million premature deaths worldwide are due to the air pollution. Mississippi River carries around 1.5 million metric tons of nitrogen pollution. Pollution caused by China may change United States weather patterns. Approximately, 56% trash of United States has covered landfills (half of that is only paper).

The most damaging pollutant causing global environmental pollution is fossil fuel. It has created various evil effects especially through air, water and soil. Protecting our environment and improving its natural value is the fundamental duty of all of us. We should try our best to tackle this problem and give a nice healthy future to our next generation.

The removal of pollution is already partly responsible for the “unprecedented rate of human-induced warming in the last decade”, they said.

The problem is that carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, the main greenhouse gases, remain in the atmosphere for long periods, continuing to add to global heating, while the disappearance of aerosols instantly removes any protection. So, they say, less air pollution means we may expect continued acceleration of surface temperatures this decade.

Fact Check: Biden Claimed His Uncle Was Eaten by Cannibals. Military Records Say Otherwise

The body of U.S. President Joe Biden's uncle, 2nd Lt. Ambrose J. Finnegan Jr., was never found during or following World War II because cannibals ate it.

On April 17, 2024, U.S. President Joe Biden was in Pittsburgh to deliver remarks about labor unions and steel manufacturing jobs. In the hours that followed, readers emailed Snopes to ask about one of Biden's comments – that his uncle, 2nd Lt. Ambrose J. Finnegan Jr., had never been found after his aircraft was shot down during World War II because of cannibals.

"Did Biden say his uncle was eaten by cannibals? I think this was on Fox News," one reader asked. "Was Biden's uncle 'Bosie' eaten by cannibals as he suggests?" another person emailed.

In short, yes he did make the comment. But official military records don't support it.

During the speech in Pittsburgh, Biden said, "When I left Scranton today, I wanted to go to the war memorial that has the names of all of the Scrantonians who died in World War II etched into a granite wall, because I wanted to see where my uncle, uncle 'Bosie' Ambrose J. Finnegan, where his name was etched."

"Back when D-Day occurred, and on Sunday, the next day, my mother's four brothers all went down to the recruiting station and joined the military. Every one of them volunteered. And my uncle, they called him Ambrose. (inaudible) They called him 'Bosie.' My uncle 'Bosie.' He was a hell of an athlete, they told me, when he was a kid."

Then, Biden made the statement about cannibals:

"And he became an Army Air Corps before the Air Force came along. He flew those single-engine planes as reconnaissance over war zones. And he got shot down in New Guinea and they never found the body because there used to be, there are a lot of cannibals, for real, in that part of New Guinea."

Here's the truth: The Associated Press (AP) referenced an official record of Finnegan's death on the Department of Defense (DOD) website for the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. The displayed status for his remains is listed as "unaccounted for." The record says he and two other men failed to emerge from the sinking wreck of their aircraft:

On May 14, 1944, an A-20 havoc (serial number 42-86768), with a crew of three and one passenger, departed Momote Airfield, Los Negros Island, for a courier flight to Nadzab Airfield, New Guinea. For unknown reasons, this plane was forced to ditch in the ocean off the north coast of New Guinea. Both engines failed at low altitude, and the aircraft's nose hit the water hard. Three men failed to emerge from the sinking wreck and were lost in the crash. One crew member survived and was rescued by a passing barge. An aerial search the next day found no trace of the missing aircraft or the lost crew members. Second Lieutenant Ambrose J. Finnegan entered the U.S. Army Air Forces from Pennsylvania and served in Headquarters, Fifth Air Force. He was the passenger on this Havoc when it was lost. He has not been associated with any remains recovered from the area after the war and is still unaccounted-for. Today, Second Lieutenant Finnegan is memorialized on the Walls of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. Based on all information available, DPAA assessed the individual's case to be in the analytical category of Non-recoverable.

DOD describes "non-recoverable" as cases "assessed to have negligible potential for accounting, such as cases in which the remains are lost at sea, or remains of an individual were cremated and/or systematically destroyed." The assessment is "based upon historical research, scientific analysis and the limited of current technology."

The two other men lost in the same wreck were 1st Lt. Harold R. Prince and Technical Sgt. Ashford H. Cardwell .

White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates did not specifically mention the cannibals remark in his emailed response to Snopes. The statement read as follows:

President Biden is proud of his uncle's service in uniform, who lost his life when the military aircraft he was on crashed in the Pacific after taking off near New Guinea. The President highlighted his uncle's story as he made the case for honoring our "sacred commitment… to equip those we send to war and take care of them and their families when they come home," and as he reiterated that the last thing American veterans are is "suckers" or "losers."

"Suckers" and "losers" was a reference to Biden's mention of a rumor involving former President Donald Trump, who purportedly once used the two words to describe fallen soldiers. Snopes published an in-depth article looking into the veracity of this claim in October 2023.

Reporters asked White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about Biden's "cannibals" comment during a gaggle aboard Air Force One on April 18. Like Bates, she described the way the record states Finnegan died, saying he "lost his life when the military aircraft he was on crashed in the Pacific after taking off near New Guinea." For further reading, the AP article published details about another error Biden made during the speech, as well as a transcript of the telegram Gen. Douglas MacArthur sent following Finnegan's death. Contaminants are introduced into the water bodies by human activities like disposing of untreated industrial sewages, agricultural runoffs with fertilisers and pesticides, dumping of solid wastes, etc. Water pollution is a great threat to marine life. Disrupting marine life affects our food cycle and damages our ecosystem.

The contamination of soil due to the presence of chemicals or other harmful particles is called soil pollution. It, directly and indirectly, affects our lives. Excessive use of chemicals like pesticides and fertilisers for agricultural production, mining, improper waste disposal, and acid rain are some of the major causes of soil pollution. As a result of soil pollution, the soil loses its fertility and deteriorates natural vegetation. It adversely affects the organisms residing in the soil, degrades agricultural productivity, and even results in famine.

Noise pollution is caused by the excessive amounts of noise in our environment. Noise pollution is generally man-made, and it badly affects the natural balance of our ecosystem. Any sound which is over 85 decibels is harmful to human health. Due to globalisation and industrialisation, the level of noise pollution in our environment has increased drastically. Some of the main contributors to noise pollution are machinery used in industries, noise emitted by vehicles, sounds produced during construction work, noise during public festivals and social events, etc. Noise pollution has become a major issue for many developed and developing nations. As a consequence, people are facing sleeping disorders, hearing loss, hypertension, stress-related illnesses, etc.

Thermal pollution is caused by the sudden increase or decrease of the temperature of a natural body of water. Industrial machinery and power plants are the major contributors to thermal pollution. For the process of cooling machinery, water from nature is collected and used. But after this mechanism, the temperature of the water gets altered. By pumping back the water, the thermal balance of the natural source of water becomes affected and results in thermal pollution. It changes the oxygen level and destroys ecosystems.

The pollution caused by the release of radioactive substances into the environment during nuclear explosions, nuclear weapon production and decommissioning, mining of radioactive ores, and disposal of radioactive wastes are called radioactive pollution.

All this pollution has had a great impact on our lives. Many environmental catastrophes like global warming, acid rain, famine, drought, earthquakes, etc., are the returns given to us by earth for our greed. If we continue to pollute, then be ready to face the end.

Environmental pollution is one of the most troubling global issues. It is caused by the harmful effect of pollutants that are discharged into the environment by the irrational actions of human beings. The actions of such pollutants badly affect our environment and transform it into an unhealthy place to live. Environmental pollution can be stated as the unfavourable alteration of our environment with severe long term consequences. Improper waste management, exploitation of natural resources, and urban-industrial technological revolutions are considered some of the main causes for environmental pollution.

Environmental pollution is a global issue, and it is not at all a new term to any of us. The phenomenon has been here for many decades, but the solution still remains obscure. The wheel of time is spinning over human beings and nature. Nature will always find its way to survive, and it’s our only hope. Like the words of John James Audubon, “A true conservationist is a man who knows that his fathers do not give the world, but borrowed from his children”, let’s realise that the conservation of our environment is never a choice but an urgency for our future.

Nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide, mercury, CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon), particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds are some of the harmful pollutants that cause environmental pollution.

India calls on Iran to release 17 Indian crew members on board seized container ship

India has called on Iran to release 17 Indian crew members on board a container ship seized by Iran on Saturday.

Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that he spoke to his Iranian counterpart Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and "took up the release of 17 Indian crew members of MSC Aries."

Four Filipino seamen were also on board the ship, according to the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers.

The department said it was working with its government, the ship owner, and the operator to release the captured seafarers.

On Saturday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards seized an Israeli-linked container ship in a helicopter operation near the Strait of Hormuz, state news agency IRNA reported.

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) said there were 25 crew members on board.

Japanese prime minister condemns Iran's attack on Israel

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Sunday said he "strongly condemns" Iran's missile and drone attack on Israel.

"(The attack) further aggravates the current situation in the Middle East. We are deeply concerned and strongly condemn such an escalation," Kishida told reporters.

Kishida said Japan would continue diplomatic efforts to "prevent the situation from worsening and to calm the situation down," and "respond in cooperation with other countries."

Blinken calls British and German counterparts following Iran's attack on Israel

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with his counterparts from the United Kingdom and Germany on Sunday following Iran's attack on Israel, according to readouts from the State Department.

All parties agreed "the importance of condemning Iran's attack in the strongest possible terms and preventing further escalation," the readout said.

Blinken earlier held phone calls with his counterparts from Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia , in which he emphasized the importance of avoiding escalation in the Middle East and of "a coordinated diplomatic response."

US forces destroyed more than 80 attack drones from Iran and Yemen, Central Command says

US forces intercepted more than 80 one-way attack drones and at least six ballistic missiles from Iran and Yemen during its attack on Israel, according to a statement from the Central Command.

The operation included destroying a ballistic missile on its launcher vehicle and seven drones on the ground in Iranian-backed Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, CENTCOM said.

"Iran's continued unprecedented, malign, and reckless behavior endangers regional stability and the safety of U.S. and coalition forces," the statement added.

Israeli and Iranian ambassadors trade accusations during UN Security Council session

Israel and Iran’s United Nations ambassadors condemned each other’s actions during Sunday’s UN Security Council emergency session called to address Iran’s attack on Israel.

Israel’s UN ambassador Gilad Erdan said Iran "must be stopped before it drives the world to a point of no return, to a regional war that can escalate to a world war." Erdan accused Iran of seeking world domination and that its attack proved that Tehran "cares nothing, nothing for Islam or Muslims" before pulling out a tablet to show a video of Israel intercepting Iranian drones above Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Erdan called on the UN Security Council to designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terror organization.

“Action must be taken now, not for Israel's sake, not for the region's sake, but for the world's sake. Stop Iran today."

Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani said his country’s operation was "entirely in the exercise of Iran’s inherent right to self-defense, as outlined in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations and recognized by international law."

Iravani said:

"This concluded action was necessary and proportionate," adding that the operation was “precise and only targeted military objectives” to reduce the potential of escalation and to prevent civilian harm. “Iran is never seeking to contribute to the spillover of the conflict in the region, nor does it to escalate or spread the tension to the entire region," he said.

Tehran’s attack had been anticipated since a suspected Israeli strike on an Iranian diplomatic complex in Syria earlier this month.

Iravani added Iran has “no intention of engaging in conflict with the US in the region” but warned Iran will use its “inherent right to respond proportionately” should the US initiate a military operation against “Iran, its citizens or its security.”

The hours-long Israeli war cabinet meeting ended Sunday night without a decision on how Israel will respond to Iran’s missile and drone attack , an Israeli official said.

The cabinet is determined to respond — but has yet to decide on the timing and scope and the official said the military has been tasked with coming up with additional options for a response.

Separately, a senior Biden administration official told reporters that an Israeli official told the United States that it's not looking to significantly escalate the showdown with Iran.

CNN analyst Barak Ravid said Israeli ministers Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot advocated for swift action, but US President Joe Biden's phone call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu led to a decision to delay the response until the next day.

Retaliation is over, Iran told US: Iran privately messaged the United States that its retaliation against Israel had concluded, echoing what Tehran said publicly, according to a senior administration official. Late Saturday, Iran said its attack on Israel is a response to Israel's strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, and "the matter can be deemed concluded." However, President Ebrahim Raisi said any “new aggression against the interests of the Iranian nation will be met with a heavier and regrettable response,” according to Iran’s state news channel IRIB.
United Nations response: UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for a de-escalation of violence after Iran’s attack. Guterres said the United Nations and member countries have a “shared responsibility” to engage “all parties concerned to prevent further escalation.” He also called for a ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza conflict. “Neither the region nor the world can afford more war,” he said.
G7 and others: Amid a flurry of diplomatic activity in response to Iran's attack, the G7 nations said they would work together to "stabilize the situation" in the Middle East, according to a statement from Biden. Also, Jordan summoned Iran's ambassador in Amman on Sunday after it intercepted Iranian drones over the country.
Meanwhile in Gaza: As thousands of Palestinians were turned away from returning to their homes in northern Gaza on Sunday, a 5-year-old girl was shot in the head by Israeli soldiers, her mother said. Video showed a man carrying a 5-year-old girl named Sally Abu Laila, who was bleeding from her head, with people crowding around her in panic trying to cover her wound.

Also on Sunday:

Israel decided to lift its restrictions on large gatherings and to reopen schools on Monday.
The US Department of Homeland Security has not identified any “specific or credible threats” to the US since Iran attacked Israel.

Blinken calls Turkish, Egyptian, Jordanian and Saudi counterparts following Iran's attack

During his phone calls, Blinken emphasized the importance of avoiding escalation in the region and the importance of "a coordinated diplomatic response."

In his conversation with Jordan and Egypt, Blinken also underlined the significance of achieving an "enduring end to the crisis in Gaza."

Iran will be held responsible if any action is taken against the US or Israel, deputy ambassador warns

US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood speaks during a United Nations Security Council emergency session over Iran’s attack on Israel on Sunday in New York.

The United States warned Iran against taking any action against the US or Israel during the UN Security Council emergency session over Iran’s attack on Israel.

“Let me be clear, if Iran or its proxies take actions against the US or further action against Israel, Iran will be held responsible,” US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood said Sunday.

The United States is “not seeking escalation, our actions have been purely defensive in nature,” adding that the “best way to prevent such escalation is an unambiguous condemnation of the council of Iran’s unprecedented large-scale attack,” he said.

The envoy reiterated US support for Israel and condemned Iran’s attack. “Iran’s intent was to cause significant damage and death in Israel,” Wood said.

Wood also said the UN Security Council had an “obligation to not let Iran’s actions go unanswered.”

“For far too long, Iran has flagrantly violated its international legal obligations,” he said before listing occasions Iran has violated UN Security Council resolutions and international law.

Wood accused Iran of being in a “broad sense complicit” of the October 7 attack on Israel by providing “significant funding and training for the military wing of Hamas.”

He added the US will explore "additional measures to hold Iran accountable here in the UN.”

Are you looking for something to do this weekend in Los Angeles? We got you.

The annual L.A. Times Festival of Books will take over the USC campus on Saturday and Sunday, and will feature more than 550 speakers and authors . Among those scheduled to appear are novelist Viet Thanh Nguyen (his debut novel, “The Sympathizer,” won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for fiction and has been adapted into a drama series for Max); drag icon RuPaul; and “Vanderpump Rules” cast member Ariana Maddix.

This year, the festival will also include the Latindad Stage, which will feature two days of discussions and readings focusing on the Latinx experience. Panels will be held in English, Spanish and Spanglish, and general admission to the festival and to the stage is free.

A lot of love, effort and thought went into the curation of the Latinidad stage. Over the last few months, De Los and L.A. Times en Español have been working closely with outside collaborators Marty Preciado and Ricardo Avendaño to come up with an inclusive program that reflects as many of our stories as possible. We also wanted a space that celebrated our authors. The end result is something I am extremely proud of.

Both days will kick off with children’s readings with the L.A. Public Library and Lil’ Libros, before moving on to discussions on topics including self-care and Latinx generational wealth, the power of the Latinx vote and first-generation experiences. The Latinidad Stage will also feature poetry readings by authors who have contributed to the De Los poetry series .

Notable participants include National Award winner Justin Torres, who will be in conversation with Nadxieli Nieto, executive editor at Flatiron Books; Valentina , the “Princess of Southeast L.A.” and host of the inaugural season of “Drag Race: Mexico,” who will be on a panel that challenges the myth of the monolithic Latinx experience; and Hollywood director Taylor Hackford and poet/screenwriter Jimmy Santiago Baca, who will discuss “Blood In Blood Out,” their recently released book about the making of the 1993 cult classic of the same name.

Types of environmental pollution-

Noise Pollution - Noise pollution also called sound pollution happens when the level of noise in the environment gets too high. Noise pollution is caused by things like car horns, loudspeakers, music systems, and industrial activities. Noise pollution is harmful for our ears.

Soil Pollution - Soil pollution, also called land pollution, takes place when solid waste, non-biodegradable materials, chemicals, and other things are dumped on open land. Waste from cities and runoff from farms are the main things that pollute the soil. Due to soil pollution, we did not get good quality food.

Water Pollution - Waste from industries and sewage water is not treated well enough before being dumped into rivers and other water bodies, which results in water pollution. It is harmful to humans as well as aquatic life.

Air Pollution - Air pollution happens when particles and other harmful gases are released into the air and make it unhealthy. The air we breathe is polluted by the smoke that comes out of factory chimneys and automobiles. Air pollution affects our respiratory system.

Furthermore, several unstable climate changes, such as earthquakes, famine, smog, carbon particles, shallow rain or snow, thunderstorms, volcanic eruptions, and avalanches, are brought on by environmental pollution.
