This is quite a tricky one! I am trying to translate the following sentence. It is for a formal covering letter, talking about a journalist who is a foreign correspondent. Below is my effort. It doesn't have to be a strict translation, as long as the same meaning is conveyed. Merci beaucoup d'avance! While on assignment in xxx, I was able to draw on local sources to break news ahead of our competitors and complete insightful features on the country’s key energy infrastructure/political developments. Pendant que j’étais sur une mutation en xxx, j’ai tiré profit des sources locaux pour faire appara î tre les nouvelles avant nos concurrents et finir des articles perspicace sur les développments clés concernant la politique et l’infrastructure du pays.

You travel somewhere, stay in a hotel, and come back to file your story or article. une affectation would be a long-term assignment, requiring you to move and live somewhere else for an extended period of time.
