Job Details: Job purpose: To conduct the 2023 Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) needs assessment data collection that explores access, availability, utilization, and quality of EmONC services in Uganda. Responsibilities: The position holders shall be responsible for: • Fieldwork preparation duties o Undertake a 3- days training on the adapted tools ensuring a common understanding of the data collection tools. • Ensure that clearance for data collection has been obtained from the appropriate authorities before the onset of the data collection process. • Fieldwork and data collection • Perform day-to-day data collection activities: seek consent from eligible participants and conduct in-depth interviews and key informant interviews in the field. o Respond to questions the participants may have about the assessment. • Share field notes and have brief discussions with the supervisor at the end of each day to discuss any challenges, solutions, and experiences. • Comply with the requirements necessary for conducting successful interviews using qualitative methods. • Ensure confidentiality of data collected and information. • After field visits • Ensure that all data captured is always kept secure. • Ensure all the modules are complete and are submitted to the National Server o Submit all participants’ consent forms to the supervisor. • Write a field report. Required Qualifications: • MB ChB; at least a diploma in Midwifery with experience of 3 years in the public or private sector. • OR At least a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health with 3 years’ experience • A certificate in Research Ethics will be an added advantage. • Previous experience with qualitative data collection on similar studies with a reputable research organization. • Basic Knowledge of EmONC. Skills • Demonstrated capacity to effectively communicate in English both orally and in written form. • Must be computer literate and able to use the ODK tools. • Ability to work independently as well as an effective team player.

JOB DETAILS: Position description The overall duty of the research assistant will be to collect data and submit it electronically to the supervisor. Specifically, research assistants will be required to perform the following tasks: • Participate fully in the training and pre-test of tools • • Administer informed consent; conduct and complete interviews in accordance with the study protocol • Answer questions that the respondents may ask before or during the course of data collection • Collect data and participate in data management processes, including validation, to ensure quality data collection • Review data before uploading and proceeding with another interview • Secure storage of data according to study protocol procedures • Maintain confidentiality and security of data • Report to the immediate supervisor any issues that affect the study • Provide the supervisor with daily updates, including interviews completed and any other important information about the study. • Participate in study team meetings throughout the study period. • Execute any other duties assigned by the study coordinator and the study investigators • Duration: This appointment is valid until data collection is completed. Education Qualifications • A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Humanities, Public Health, counseling, or any other related discipline Other requirements • Prior experience in face-to-face interviews and community-based research • Proficiency in English and any of the following languages: Madi, Acholi, Arabic and Dinka • Familiarity with the study area • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills • Ability to adhere to the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures • Discipline and integrity • Ability to work under stringent deadlines and independently with minimum supervision Job Experience: No Requirements Work Hours: 8 Experience in Months: Level of Education: Bachelor Degree

Research Assistant -Part Time

The research assistant shall participate in health education of study participants, data collection, documentation, informed consent process to ensure that high quality data produced in a timely manner.

The research assistant will support the research team by ensuring logistics and supplies, identifying households and participants per protocol, conducting and recording interviews, managing consent processes, engaging with community members respectfully, and accurately completing and verifying data collection forms.

Responsibilities.

• Ensure availability of supply and logistics
• Asking questions, probing and recording responses
• Respectfully handling and dealing with study participants
• Completing surveys and questionnaires in accordance with protocols
• Certificate or diploma in social work, social sciences, counselling, education, secretarial studies or computer science or information technology or a certificate in nursing/midwifery, from a reputable institution.

Description.

JOB DETAILS: General Summary • The study runner will be required to give overall support to both the clinical and administrative teams on the study. The individual should be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities • Planning of study meetings • Implementation of study activities • Support data collection • Ensure data quality control and assurance • Support data management and analysis.

Person Specification Qualifications: • Bachelor’s and / Master’s level training in Statistics and Public Health. • Experience in Clinical and Population- based research • Experience in data management and analysis using statistical software packages

The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 300 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 Grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of Health.

• Participate in development of data collection tools.
• Participate in meeting observations, health facility surveys and implementation science activities.
• Participate in planning and conducting stakeholder engagement meetings.
• Participate in report writing and dissemination activities.
