डाकिया एक सरकारी कर्मचारी होता है जो जगह जगह घूम कर लोगों के लिए आये संदेश को उनतक पहुंचाता है। डाकिया का नाम लेते ही एक ऐसे व्यक्ति की कल्पना की जाती है जो एक साधारण सा पोशाक पहने हुए साइकिल पर सवार होकर जगह जगह पर संदेश वितरण करने का कार्य करता है।

इसे लोग कई नामों से जानते हैं जैसे- डाक बाबू, पोस्टमैन, डाकिया भैया, डाकिया चाचा और गांव के लोगों इसे देवदूत भी बुलाते हैं क्योंकि यह उन्हें जरूरी जानकारी लाकर देते हैं।

आमतौर पर ग्रामीण इलाकों में यह खाकी रंग का पैंट और कमीज पहने हुए सिर पर खाकी रंग की टोपी पहने हुए दिखते हैं तथा उनके कंधों पर चमड़े से बनी एक साधारण सी थैली जरूर होती है जिसने भी जरूरी पत्र वगैरह रखता है।

डाकिये का कार्य बहुत ही कठिन होता है क्योंकि उसे एक क्षेत्र से दूसरे क्षेत्र में विभिन्न मुहल्लों, गलियों और घरों तक जा जाकर संदेश को पहुंचाना होता है।

डाकिया का कार्य किसी पेशेवर व्यक्ति से भी ज्यादा कठिन होता है। यह प्रभात में ही अपने काम के लिए घर से निकल पड़ते हैं और देर रात अपना काम निपटा कर घर पर वापस लौटते हैं जिसके लिए इन्हें कुछ खास वेतन भी नहीं मिलता है।

इनका कार्य अत्यंत चुनौतीपूर्ण होता है क्योंकि उसे सर्दी , गर्मी और बरसात के मौसम में भी अपना काम करना ही पड़ता है। बीमार पड़ जाने पर भी कभी कभार इन्हें छुट्टी भी नहीं दी जाती है  जिससे उनके स्वास्थ्य पर बहुत गहरा प्रभाव पड़ता है।

डाकिये सबसे पहले अलग-अलग क्षेत्रों के डाक को छाँट लेते हैं और बाद में उन पर मोहर लगाकर उसे  दिए गए पते तक पहुंचाते हैं ।

दिन रात काम करने के बाद भी इनकी पगार बहुत ही ज्यादा कम होती है जिससे पूरे महीने का गुजारा कर पाना अत्यंत मुश्किल  हो जाता है। इतना कम वेतन पाकर भी यह अपना काम पूरे परिश्रम और ईमानदारी के साथ करते हैं।

इनके थैले में बहुत से जरूरी कागजात, पैसे और अन्य दस्तावेज होते हैं, जिससे रास्ते में जाते हुए कई बार इन्हें लुटेरों का सामना भी करना पड़ जाता है। ऐसे किसी भी दुर्घटना की भरपाई कई बार इन्हें अपने पैसे से  करनी पड़ जाती है।

प्राचीन समय में जब कोई भी साधन सुविधा नहीं हुआ करती थी तब भी डाकिया अपना काम करते थे। पुराने समय में राजा महाराजा अपने लिए एक अलग डाकिया रखते थे जिसे राजदूत भी कहा जा सकता है।

1766 मैं पहली बार लॉर्ड क्लाइव ने डाक व्यवस्था की शुरुआत की जिसे 1774 मैं वारेन हेस्टिंग द्वारा गति प्रदान की गई। 1 अक्टूबर 1854 को भारत में डाकघर को राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर महत्व दिया।

डाकिया शब्द लोगों के जीवन की एक आधारभूत कड़ी बन चुकी है। भारत के हर एक संप्रदाय के लोक साहित्य में डाकिया का स्थान बहुत ऊंचा बताया जाता है।

पूरे देश में डाकिया ही ऐसा कर्मचारी होता है जिससे वहां के निवासी भली तरह से परिचित होते हैं। इनके द्वारा लाए गए सूचनाओं का लोग बेसब्री से इंतजार करते हैं।

डाकिया को बहुत से  ऐसे जगह पर जाना पड़ता है जिसे पार करने के लिए उन्हें बहुत सी कठिनाई का सामना करना पड़ता है। अपने काम के प्रति इतना ईमानदार होने के बाद भी इनका वेतन इतना नहीं होता जिससे कि अपनी आवश्यक जरूरतों को पूरा कर सके।

त्योहारों के दिनों में एक तरफ लोग अपने घरों में हर्षोल्लास के साथ नए नए पकवान बनाकर खाते हैं वहीं दूसरी तरफ डाकिए उस दिन भी लोगों को पत्र बांटने में व्यस्त होते हैं।

देश में चाहे कोई भी मौसम हो या फिर कोई भी त्यौहार हो लेकिन डाकिया को कभी भी छुट्टी नहीं मिलती। कई बार तबीयत बिगड़ने के कारण इन्हें बहुत मुश्किल से छुट्टी दी जाती है जो अत्यंत कम दिनों की होती है।

वास्तव में यह बहुत गरीब होते हैं और मिलने वाले वेतन से मुश्किल से अपना खर्चा निकाल पाते हैं। कई बार जब लोग पत्र पढ़कर खुश होते हैं तो कभी कभार इन्हें कुछ पैसे दे दिया करते हैं।

Pick the right sources for your research The first step in the process is research. And incidentally, it is also the most important. Of the many things that you have to do for good research, the first thing is to find the right sources for it. The broad criterion that you can set to find “good” sources is to look for the ones that are generally hailed as reliable and authoritative. Think of places like the New York Times website or Forbes. Since we’re talking about writing essays, however, some sources that you can consider using are as follows: 1. Google Scholar – a good place to find academic papers on various topics 2. ResearchGate – pretty much performs the same function as G Scholar 3. JSTOR – same thing once again And so on. If the situation demands the use of a difficult word, be sure to address and explain it for the ease of your reader(s). 3. Once you are done writing the draft of your essay, you should give it a couple of thorough reads and re-reads. If you come across any difficult words that you may have used without realizing it, you can fix them then. Another good way to go about the last step there is to use a paraphrasing tool. In other words, if there are some difficult words in your essay and you can’t figure out how to make them more readable, you can try rephrasing those particular parts with the help of a paraphrasing tool. Should you choose a high-quality one, you will be able to get smart results without much need for editing, etc. 5. Find and remove plagiarism Another important thing that you have to do during the essay-writing process is find and remove plagiarism from the content.
