The Program Administrator will be a member of an administrative team reporting to the Research Director.

  • Act on behalf of the supervisor in regards to establishing priorities and identifying and resolving problems that are administrative in nature.
  • Research and/or write background information for meetings. Participate in meetings on supervisor’s behalf, inform after the fact.
  • Oversee and/or perform duties associated with scheduling, organizing, and operating complex conferences, seminars, and events, including arranging with vendors for services, overseeing the production and distribution of materials, administering logistics, and managing events within budget.
  • Compose and draft documents and correspondence for presentations, course handouts, conferences, seminars, and reports.
  • Plan and schedule calendar(s) without prior consultation, resolve calendaring conflicts, and arrange travel in compliance with unit, university, and sponsor policies.
  • Create complex reports and spreadsheets which may utilize specialized software and systems. Make recommendations based on reports.
  • Oversee and/or process a variety of complex financial transactions; produce, monitor, and reconcile budget statements; research, identify, and resolve discrepancies. May assist with capital or special equipment requests and/or vendor selection.
  • Analyze and review material and extract pertinent information for briefing purposes.

Dozens of environmental groups joined together Monday to push the Department of Energy to make sure climate change and domestic energy prices are major priorities in the agency’s new analysis of liquefied natural gas exports.

The groups, led by the Sierra Club, also called for a focus on environmental justice — the effort to reduce pollution that takes a disproportionate toll on communities of color and certain rural and low-income areas.

It’s “past time for a robust review of LNG export proposals and our frontline communities, domestic consumers, and manufacturers are actively suffering as a result,” the groups said in a letter delivered to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and shared with POLITICO’s E&E News.

In late January, DOE paused approvals of new LNG exports to countries that the U.S. does not have free trade agreements with — a move with big potential implications for President Joe Biden’s reelection bid that was praised by environmentalists and condemned by fossil fuel supporters. The department is now conducting an economic and climate analysis on LNG that will help inform future decisions to approve or deny exports.

The Federal Aviation Administration on Sunday said it will launch an investigation after the engine cowling of a Southwest Airlines plane fell off during takeoff in Denver and struck the wing flap. The cowling is the protective cover over the plane's engine.

Southwest Airlines Flight 3695 returned safely to Denver International Airport around 8:15 a.m. local time on Sunday after the pilot reported the incident, the FAA said. The plane was headed to William P. Hobby Airport in Houston.

In a statement, Southwest Airlines said it is working to get customers on their way to Houston on another aircraft after Flight 3695 landed safely in Denver and that its maintenance teams are reviewing the aircraft.

Frank Sanger, who was on the flight, expressed shock after getting a glimpse of the plane’s state when he deplaned.

“You could see the jet engine had a panel stripped away, all the way around,” Sanger said in an interview that aired Monday on NBC’s “TODAY” show.

This is the second incident in recent days involving a reported malfunctioning of equipment on a Southwest Airlines flight. The FAA is investigating a reported engine fire before takeoff at Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport on Thursday.

United Airlines flights have also recently faced safety issues, with eight incidents having been reported in the last two weeks.

Sasha Johnson, the vice president of corporate safety at United, said in a statement that the FAA will be playing a larger role in the company.

"Over the next several weeks, we will begin to see more of an FAA presence in our operation as they begin to review some of our work processes, manuals and facilities," Johnson said.

These incidents come on the heels of skyrocketing scrutiny the airline industry continues to face, with Boeing under investigation by the FAA, Department of Justice and National Transportation Safety Board, following the Alaska Airlines door plug blowout .
