The meaning of dialogue is introduced and practiced to improve the participant's ability to communicate during tough conversations. Participants learn how to use active listening skills to enhance their relationships. Additional topics include how to facilitate an effective meeting, delivering a powerful presentation and overcoming anxiety in public speaking.

Use your untapped potential to effectively work with others. The art of influence course provides strategies to gain commitment, enhance trust and cooperation, foster collaboration, and deal with challenging behaviors. The six major influence strategies are introduced and practiced in this interactive session.

Organizations that optimize Supply Chain Management Processes function at optimal capacity, maximizing customer value and creating a sustainable competitive advantage. This workshop covers planning, sourcing, operations, delivery, metrics, continuous improvement and IT support systems. The sessions are highly interactive and include hands-on demonstrations. In this introspective workshop, participants learn how to recognize the three phases of transition and how to navigate their way through each phase. Learning how to distinguish a change from a transition, participants then explore their own experiences to develop strategies for managing themselves and others in the future. 

Managing Conflict

Using the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI), this workshop defines the five different conflict modes -competing, accommodating, avoiding, compromising and collaborating- and teaches the participant how to use each mode effectively, depending on the situation. The participant's most preferred and least preferred conflict resolution modes are identified and strategies for utilizing the other modes are explored. This topic pairs well with the introduction to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.

Employees who have direct reports will enjoy this course on Managing through People which includes goal setting, aligning objectives for susccess, coaching, delegating, and change management. In a survey carried out amongst experienced, middle, and senior executives, designed to determine the things that they feared most, public speaking came out as number one. Death was eighth on the list! So, most of us would rather die than stand up and present!

This session will provide you with the ideas and techniques to help them feel more confident about presenting, and will help you to become an effective presenter.

  • Problems and fears with Presentations – Looking at the past problems delegates have felt and seen with presentations. What their fears are and their likes and dislikes of presenting.
  • Qualities of an Effective Presenter – Identifying what makes a presenter good and analyzing the skills required.
  • Planning a Presentation – Key considerations when planning a presentation and
  • planning around the audience.
  • Structuring Your Presentation – Considering the attention span of an audience and structuring the session around this. Using the ‘Communicating to Convince’ model to structure the presentation.
  • Opening Attention Grabbers – How to start a session with a bang. Using Visual Aids – The do’s and don’ts regarding visual aids and making them effective.
  • Presentation Models and Tools – Identifying alternatives to PowerPoint.
  • Presentation style – Considering their style, including; mannerisms, gestures, eye contact, voice and nerves.
  • Presentation Practice – A chance to test their presenting skills and provide feedback in a safe environment.

Faculty in Rhetoric and Communication Studies marry scholarship and teaching, recognizing active, ongoing research and intellectual inquiry grounds genuine learning inside and outside the classroom. Faculty theorize about and analyze various forms of symbolic action-media, rhetoric, and relational dynamics-and treat subjects including elective politics, law, social protest, globalization, history, conflict and negotiation, and culture, the latter including public memory, consumerism, identity formation, gender, race, and class.

Theoretical expertise ranges from antiquity to post-modernity in the Western tradition. Methodological approaches include critical, critical/cultural, qualitative, and quantitative. RHCS professors mentor scholarly writing, foster intellectual exchange, promote performative agility, and encourage interdisciplinary exploration and discovery.

  • RHCS faculty view communication in a general liberal arts education to include, but not be limited to, the facility, in a variety of contexts to:
  • Analyze and speak extemporaneously on various public issues with clarity and informative and/or persuasive art
  • Report complex findings in a manner accessible to lay persons and appropriate to intellectual communities of their origination
  • Field interrogation in various venues thoughtfully, ethically, persuasively, or with other purposes
  • Manage conflict with an analytical eye towards reaching negotiation and resolution, or other ethical purposes
  • Identify, analyze, and/or critique public expressions of individual or collective identities and dominant ideologies as well as various public challenges to them
  • Present prepared addresses on various occasions, which may entail informative, persuasive, ceremonial, or other purposes.
  • Become sophisticated analytical audiences of public discourse and other forms of symbolism, which includes judiciousness in assessing arguments, emotional appeals, and other strategic choices, and recognizing the potency of visual rhetoric for various audiences.
  • Develop acumen in assessing communicative dynamics in various interpersonal or group settings for varied purposes, which might include alleviating misunderstandings or correcting insufficient or overly complex communicative patterns so as to promote good ends.

Financial Industry Presentation Skills Training

Anyone who has been involved in the financial industry for any extended period of time knows that presentations on financial topics can be somewhat tedious and difficult to bear. This is not necessarily because the topics covered during a presentation are not interesting. Rather, the difficultly lies in that there are many people who are tasked with providing financial presentations who do not have the appropriate communication skills or presentation skills to hold onto an audience‘s attention. Cultivating these skills is crucial and is generally only accomplished via presentation training. In fact, those who take the time to hone presentation skills via training soon find that discussing financial topics, regardless of whether their audience is made up of investors, co-workers, investment brokers or analysts, can be quite engaging. Without the desire to improve presentation skills, even the most fascinating presentation can fall flat. Our interactive two-day Financial Industry Presentations Skills Training is an interactive training workshop designed to equip financial industry professionals with the ability to deliver engaging presentations on financial topics and other subjects of relevance in the business world.

Financial Industry Presentations Skills Training is a highly participatory two-day training session that enables financial professionals to learn time-tested presentation and communication skills that make financial information clear and manageable. Classroom training activities are centered on building effective communication skills while strengthening the ability to structure presentations that flow seamlessly. Each training module used in this presentations training workshop focuses on presentation topics such as preparation, structure, delivery skills, strategy, use of visual aids, and the ability to handle question and answer sessions. Financial Industry Presentations Skills Training participants will benefit by creating and delivering a real-life financial presentation which, ideally, they will deliver shortly after attending this training program.
