2 Minute Speech on Sports

Hello, all of you present here,

Before I start my speech, I would like to thank you all for having me a chance to deliver this speech. The topic of my speech is sports and games.

Sports is one of the most advantageous activities that one should practise in his life. It improves body functions to act accurately and efficiently. It is a tool to achieve a state of a healthy body and an active brain. Without sports and games, there is no joy in school life. So, it should be made compulsory for schools.

There are incalculable advantages of sports. Studies suggest that sports can expand the life expectancy of humans. Besides, a person who follows sports is less likely to expose to diseases and bodily problems. Also, it helps to improve the stamina and immunity of a person. Sports is something that has no side effects at all.

Sports is such an activity that everyone can perform at any age and gender. In fact, sports and games are made compulsory for many schools. Just like eating healthy meals and exercising daily, sport is also counted as one of the healthy activities of life.

This is what I think about the benefits of sports and games. There is a lot to say but time is limited. And everyone should respect the time.

Thank you all again.

Speech on Sports

Sports, the world of thrilling action and teamwork, stir up passion like nothing else. You might be a player on the field or a fan in the stands, but the excitement is universal.

These games, played with a ball, a bat, or just your own body, bring people together. They teach us about unity, discipline, and the joy of victory.

1-minute Speech on Sports

Ladies and gentlemen, good morning. It is an honor to stand before you today to deliver a speech on the subject that is very dear to my heart, ‘Sports’.

Sports play a significant role in our lives. They are not merely an avenue for entertainment and fun. They are a symbol of discipline, dedication, and determination. Whether it’s football, cricket, tennis or any other sport, every game teaches us the value of teamwork, the importance of hard work, and the spirit of sportsmanship.

The beauty of sports lies in the fact that they unite people. They break down barriers and build bridges between cultures and nations. When our favorite team wins, we rejoice together, and when they lose, we share the sorrow. Sports remind us that despite our differences, we are united in our love for the game.

Moreover, sports are a great way to stay fit and healthy. They help us maintain a balanced lifestyle, physically and mentally. They teach us to be resilient in the face of adversity, to never give up and to keep striving for our goals.

Lastly, sports inspire us. They show us that nothing is impossible, that every hurdle can be crossed, and every peak can be scaled. They instill in us the belief that if we work hard and stay dedicated, we can achieve anything we set our minds to.

In conclusion, sports are not just games. They are a way of life, shaping us into better individuals and creating a healthier, happier society. It is our duty to encourage sports at all levels and create an environment where everyone can enjoy the thrill of the game. Thank you.

2-minute Speech on Sports

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am delighted to be speaking today on a topic that is close to my heart – Sports. When we think about sports, many images rush to our minds – the exhilarating moment when our favorite team scores a goal, the sheer excitement of a last-minute victory, and the unity we feel when we cheer on our team together. Sports are not just games; they are experiences that bring people together and create moments of shared joy and anguish.

We live in a world where the importance of physical fitness and well-being cannot be understated. Sports serve as an excellent medium for achieving this goal. They offer a fun and engaging way to stay fit, active, and healthy. The importance of incorporating physical activities into our daily routines has never been more relevant than it is today, given the sedentary lifestyles many of us lead.

Sports also play a significant role in character building. They teach us about discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. They instill key values such as respect, fairness, and integrity. Sports help us understand that winning is not everything and that it’s equally important to lose with grace. They demonstrate the importance of striving for continuous improvement rather than fixating solely on victory.

The realm of sports isn’t confined to just athletic prowess—it’s also about community. Sports often serve as a unifying force in society, transcending cultural, linguistic, and geographical boundaries. Think about international events like the Olympics or the World Cup. For a few weeks, people from various parts of the globe come together to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship. Regardless of nationality, age or background, we cheer, celebrate, and commiserate together.

Additionally, sports have the power to inspire and motivate. Athletes often serve as role models to the younger generation. Their journey, dedication, and hard work encourage children and adults alike to set goals, work towards achieving them, and never give up. Sports encourage us to challenge our limits, step out of our comfort zones and strive for greatness.

However, it’s important to remember that while sports offer many benefits, they should always be pursued in a healthy and balanced manner. Overtraining or pushing yourself beyond your physical limits can lead to injuries. Equally, it’s essential to remember that winning isn’t everything. Participation, effort, and enjoying the game are just as important.

In conclusion, sports are a vital component of our lives. They contribute not just to our physical well-being, but also our mental and social health. They teach us invaluable life skills, foster community spirit, and inspire us to strive for excellence. So, let’s embrace sports and make them an integral part of our life. Remember, it’s not about being the best; it’s about being better than you were yesterday.

Today, I am fortunate enough to get the opportunity to speak on the topic of Sports. One thing that is common among us is that, because of our monotonous routine, we often get tired or stressed. The human body is not a machine, and keeping it working efficiently requires time and investment. Every day, our minds often get frustrated with the same routine. It needs replenishment, and in this regard, sports are the best therapy ever. People who participate in various kinds of sports often find themselves more energetic and are the happiest people.

For a person's physical and mental development, sports are very important. It has several beneficial effects, including increased blood flow, improved concentration and thinking ability. It also creates awareness and enhances reflexes, reducing reaction time.

A sportsman, because he/she is physically and mentally fit to do so, can make quick and rational decisions. In building a person's physical stamina, outdoor sports such as swimming, cricket, football, volleyball, etc. are very beneficial. These sports require a great deal of running or physical movement, which increases the individual's physical capacity. It is well observed that, due to health problems and laziness, many students fail to demonstrate excellent performance at their school, college or university. It is also found in adults that they are unable to do their best at their job. The reason behind all these things is that our lifestyle lacks sports.

The importance of sports must be accepted and the time spent on the field should be increased. There should be competitions at all levels and all players who are interested in pursuing sports professionally should be supported by the government. In every city, there should be playing grounds for our youth to maintain their fit and healthy selves. It is not only important to take part in sports activities for physical development, but also mental growth. Such activities teach the skills to deal with difficult circumstances in life. It also teaches the value of involvement and trying. This improves team-building abilities as well as decreases stress. It helps to increase blood flow and helps keep health issues away from you. It also helps to maintain the balance between work and personal life through the elimination of exhaustion. Happiness is also increased by engaging yourself in sports or games.

Choosing a sport with high value or rules is not necessary, even tiny and easy sports can go a long way. It is essential to allow our children and individuals to participate in sports events for better health, body growth, and encourage them to make a career in this field as well. In conclusion, I would like to add that it is essential to take part in sports, no matter how hard you work or how long you work, to increase productivity and decrease lethargy.

Short Speech on Sports for Students

I am here today to speak on the topic of Sports.

The sport includes all sorts of competitive physical activity or games that, through casual or organized participation, are partially aimed towards using, maintaining or improving physical skills and abilities while providing participants with enjoyment and, in some cases, spectators with entertainment.

Sports generate purposeful and meaningful social relationships, especially team sports. Man is a social animal; we need to connect with others socially. Such social relationships with your friends and colleagues provide you with extremely desirable security, belonging, and ultimately happiness. Therefore, it is not at all a necessity to win or lose in sports or athletics, but the happiness that comes from participation in sports or athletics is a highly cherished trophy.

It is necessary to allow our children and individuals to participate in sports events for better health, body growth, and if they want, they can also make a career in this field. It makes a learner happy and brings happiness in life. It is quite easy to focus on studies and achieve excellence when one is happy and healthy. Sports can be said to provide your mind with the necessary leverage by making it relaxed, sharp and oriented. Aside from the psychological advantages, you also benefit physically from indulging in sports.

Sports develop teamwork and team spirit, which in today's world is very important. But many look at the sport as a waste of time due to current changes, which is wrong. So, in the end, I would like to encourage each one of you to choose a sport of your choice and participate in it, while pushing others around you to do so as well.

10 Lines for Short Sports Speech in English

Physical sports require exercise.

Mind sports involve psychological flexibility, concentration and fast thinking.

For both the participants and the spectators, a good sport should be a source of entertainment.

For a sport to be competitive, fair play is one of the basic requirements.

It plays a major role in improving our physical and mental fitness.

This helps to build self-confidence, team spirit, and mental & physical strength.

There are two kinds of indoor and outdoor sports.

Sports teach us discipline, the value of time, togetherness and unity.

Most sports are free from the age boundary, and they can be played by anyone.

In all kinds of sports, performance-enhancing drugs to increase efficiency are restricted.

Sports allow kids to enhance their physical skills, get some exercise, learn teamwork, play fairly, and boost their self-esteem. Furthermore, they may teach children essential life values such as how to persevere, win with humility, and lose gracefully.

After much research, it has been found that students who participate in athletics do better in school. Furthermore, sporting activities not only relieve stress and promote physical and mental health, but also aid in the prevention of boy misconduct, conflict, and angry outbursts. The goal is to maintain physical fitness so that our minds can remain strong and clear.

Vedantu has prepared both a long and a short speech on the subject of sports for students. The focus of the speech is on the role and value of sports and games in the lives of students.

Long Speech on Sports

Good day fellow students. I'll be giving a speech about sports and gaming today. I'm delighted I got this topic because it's exciting and relevant to students.

In most schools, sports and games classes are required. This is because children must acclimate to rigorous physical work and not become fatigued easily. It's difficult initially, regardless of the sport. But, over time, one's body adjusts to the movements, strokes, gestures, and so on.

When we participate in a physical sport, whether it's football, swimming, boxing, or any other sport, our bodies, muscles, and bones get a good workout. It gives us strength and increases our energy levels. Sports can be a stress reliever for certain people, making their hearts and body quiet and serene.

Indoor sports and games, such as chess, cards, and billiards, necessitate a greater cerebral effort than physical exertion. You must ponder and play. Players must have a strategy in place as well as a thorough comprehension of the game's laws and regulations.

Sports and sports provide pleasant relaxation, as well as keep our mind and body in good shape, active and collected. You can study and improve any sport or game in your spare time. This instills in us the ability to trust each other, be loyal and calmly solve problems. He teaches us not to give up no matter how many times we fail, and to keep practicing until we succeed.

People should learn about and participate in a variety of sports and games. That way, they'll be able to figure out which sport is ideal for them. You must be completely committed to the sport or game you have chosen. You must devote 100% of your attention to the game while playing. You must play the game and have fun with it. You must allow the energy to flow naturally through your body. Students should be encouraged to learn things outside of the classroom.

Short Speech on Sports

Good day fellow students. I am ecstatic to be able to speak on one of my favorite subjects, sports. Sports are an important part of everyone's life. It is a component of education that strives to promote an individual's overall development.

Indoor games and outdoor games are the most common sorts of games and sports. People must comprehend and explore all of their possibilities to determine which is best for them.

Sports keep us motivated and create a healthy competitive environment in which we may improve. It also emphasizes team-building activities, as the team participates in a variety of games. It eliminates hesitation and inspires people to move forward in life despite all challenges and setbacks.

First is when you go about doing your research and then ideating or selecting a topic that is more in line with your purpose of giving the speech.

The second and the most popular way to find a 2-minute speech topic is to go on to google and type 2-minute speech topics. You shouldn’t be shocked at the number of topics the internet has to offer to you. You might not even have to go anywhere else, jump on to the speech topics section if you want to get straight into selecting a 2-minute speech topic for yourself.

Researching for your 2-minute speech topic

So, you chose not to select one of the many topics available on the internet? That’s great! Want to know why?

1. It would help you come up with a topic that is more personalized and less common.

When you come up with the topic yourself, you move from the very broad topics available online and can find a topic that caters more to your area of interest or understanding.

2. You would be able to narrow down on a topic of your choice or area of interest.

3. it would help you gain an understanding of the topic from various points of view.

In the initial ideation stage, as you try to research the topic and find a topic for your 2-minute speech, you would be exposed to various political, environmental, or social perspectives of the same topic which would further help you to not only narrow down your topic but also understand your topic from various points of view, thus helping you ace a question-and-answer round.

Process of Finding a topic

Before beginning straight up by researching your topic, there are a couple of things that you might have to take a look into which will help you navigate through the next step (that is researching for your topic). These include:

1. Understanding the event for which you’d be giving the speech

Understanding the event or occasion where you will be giving the speech is important as it would give you a brief idea of what is expected in terms of the content and tone of your speech .

So, for instance, if you are giving a speech at a conference, it would have a more formal tonality to it as compared to a speech that you might present at your best friend’s wedding which would usually be filled with a lot of slang, humor, and casual tone.

2. Understanding your audience

The next thing you should try to find a little more clarity on is your possible audience. Understanding who the majority of your audience will comprise will help you in finding a topic that would be more in line with their broad interest, thus attracting them to listen to your speech right from the very beginning .

3. Your interests and knowledge

Yet another thing that you must take into consideration besides what the event and audience expect from you is your interest in the topic. Having a tad bit of understanding of the speech topic you would want to dive into can also help you in navigating through your research better.

4. Your purpose for giving the speech

Establish your purpose for giving the speech even before you start researching. The reason is very simple, you’d be able to understand which kind of a topic you should focus on depending on the purpose of your speech.

Do you plan on providing the audience with detailed information on the topic? Or are you trying to sell your view or product to the audience within these 2 minutes?

In both cases, your topic, as well as the structure of speech, would be very different.

Once you have an idea of your audience, your interests, and your knowledge areas, you can then move on to researching your topic.

A simple google search can be a good starting point.

Take the help of news articles, journals, blogs, and much more to narrow down and come up with a 2-minute speech topic that you feel most excited about!

Once you have decided on your topic for the speech, the next step is to come up with the speech itself or the script.

For this, you’ll have to understand the approx number of words you will be comfortable adding to your speech so as to not exceed the time limit of 2-minutes.

Next, you can go about the usual “ introduction, main body, and conclusion ” structure for structuring your script.

It isn’t necessary for you to frame the entire speech word for word, you can also frame it in a pointer format if that is more convenient for you.

Person giving speech

How do you start a 2-minute speech?

As there isn’t much time in your hand, presenting detailed opening lines for a 2-minute speech would mean that you would have to cut down on your main content.

Instead, you can start by giving a very quick introduction like “Hi I am Nisha and I will be talking about the adverse effects of sleep deprivation today with you.”

You can also use other more fun and engaging ways to begin your speech and there are tons of ways you can do it. Check out the list below to find examples of a few:

1. Rhetorical questions

Rhetorical questions are questions wherein you want to provoke the audience to think and not to come up with any specific answer . An example of the same is given below.

So from a glance, do I look like marriage material? Nina Donovan

Jokes and humor are almost always appreciated by the audience provided it isn’t even slightly derogatory or demeaning to anyone. Opening your 2-minute speech with a joke can in fact be a good attention grabber that would also not take up a lot of your speech time .

Example of a joke used as an opening line:

Do you know when brown kids get slapped? Every brown birthday party. Hasan Minhaj

3. Statistics or figures

What is the best way to make someone understand the reality of any situation you ask? Figures, numbers, or stats!

Because when the audience sees the number in front of them, they can no longer be in denial or in their own world of assumptions. Hence, using statistics in your opening lines would definitely help you reach your goal of spreading awareness (if that is what your purpose is).

Suicide happens to be one of the leading causes of death in United states with approximately one indivdiual dying to suicide every 11 minutes. The question is why are we still overlooking this grave issue?

To know more about effective opening lines, check out our post on 50 speech opening lines .

Following your brief introduction, as you dive into your topic, there are a couple of things that you must keep in your mind, they are:

  • Stick to only one takeaway . Having many takeaways might not help you effectively reach the audience.
  • Try to add short stories only if you plan on adding a story to your speech. Make sure that it isn’t taking up a huge chunk of your speech time.

How do you end your 2-minute speech?

In short speeches, your ending or conclusion is very important. It needs to be impactful. You can either summarize your speech in a couple of seconds or you can re-establish your takeaway at this point in your speech. You can try to end with a powerful quote or try to motivate your audience to take some action .

An example of asking the audience to take an action is,

“So as we reach the end of the speech on effects of sleep deprivation, I’d want you to go back home and think to yourself, is browsing for  a couple of more minutes really necessary over your precious sleep?”

2-minute speech on Brain Drain

Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadela, Leena Nair, and Paraag Agarwal what do they all have in common?

You probably guessed it right! They are the CEOs of some of the biggest companies in the world but there is yet another commonality that they have. They are all Indian Origin CEOs who gained their initial education from some of the top colleges in India to hold such exceptional positions in world-renowned companies now.

If this isn’t a good example of brain drain, I’m not sure what is. Brain drains, a concept that is very common to Indians when we lose some of the smartest people of our country to better opportunities abroad. These companies not only offer the individuals with better work ethos and environment but also provide them with a handsome paycheck and add to that the amount of appreciation they receive for the work they chip in. Something that is either too rare or alien to the Indian work environment.

But the scenario in India is changing. With the coming of start-up culture in India where the employees are given just as much priority as the company’s clients If the companies encourage such open and collaborative culture where there is a fair opportunity for growth provided to all the employees, we might be able to see some considerable fall in the problem of brain drain in India.

Importance of education 2-minute speech

Do you remember how in school they asked us to prove whether the two figures were triangles when you could easily have concluded that they indeed were triangles just by looking at them?

So then why do we say that education is important?

For starters, to be able to live a decent life, the basic requirement for any job is for you to possess at least a diploma or degree. Apart from the theoretical learning that we get through education, there are plenty of other skills and experiences we are exposed to like broadening our perspective by interacting with peers, enhancing public speaking skills, understanding the basics of how the world functions are it the laws and rights that the individual possesses or the understanding of geographical division and economic conditions in the society. Education helps in enhancing the capacities, attitudes, interests, urges, and needs of the individual. And hence when the student or individual is deprived of education, it isn’t just the theoretical knowledge that they miss out on but they also miss out on having a holistic development of themselves. This is what makes education very important in everyone’s life.

I wish you all a very energetic morning. I am overwhelmed to speak on one of my favourite topic, i.e. Sports. Sports holds an essential position in everyone’s life. It gives plenty of lesson to us. It is a part of education & it aims at all-round development of an individual. Earlier Indian society & education used to focus only on grades & marks. However, time has changed. Now not only in schools but also parents have started giving importance to physical activities & sports in daily life.

There are two types of sports, outdoor & indoor; both have plenty of benefits in its way. Sports is something which keeps us motivated & energetic. Outdoor sports include a lot of physical exercises which keeps our body fit & in shape. It keeps our mind cool & diverted from day to day stress. Indoor sports helps us in developing strategic outlook & analytical skills. It also helps people to increase mental sharpness. Sports help in all-round development in personality, which further helps in future endeavours. It makes people confident & makes them aware of all the types of situations which may arise in life.

For example, winning & losing is closely related to success & failure in life. Sports teaches very tactfully that life will always be full of both but what we need to do is to accept those challenges & keep moving forward. Sport is an outstanding teacher of teamwork. As in plenty of sports, more than one player is involved, people come across a variety of minds & learns to act accordingly. It also encourages competitiveness & positivity. Sports is getting recognised in national & international levels through various programs like Asian Games, Olympics, Commonwealth games & many more.

The Indian government has shown keen interest to develop the spirit of sports from the very grass root level. Now a day’s people are getting motivated by seeing plenty of examples around them. Recognising sports as one of the passion & profession is at the peak, whereas earlier it was just considered a pass time. There are plenty of examples who have converted their passion to dreams like MS Dhoni , Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal, Viswanathan Anand & many more.

They have made every one of us proud & have brought glory for the whole nation. In conclusion, I would like to add that sports are an essential part of our life which adds value in plenty of ways. We all must recognise it at every level of our life by endorsing it to its best.

Introduction (10-15 seconds)

  • Start with a hook or attention-grabber to capture the audience’s interest.
  • Introduce yourself and briefly preview the topic you’ll be discussing.
  • State the main purpose or thesis of your speech.

Main Points (45-60 seconds)

  • Organize your speech into two or three main points that support your thesis.
  • Dedicate roughly equal time to each main point.
  • Provide supporting evidence, examples, or anecdotes for each point to reinforce your arguments.
  • Use transitions to smoothly move from one point to the next, maintaining the flow of your speech.

Conclusion (15-20 seconds)

  • Summarize the main points you’ve discussed, reinforcing your thesis.
  • End with a strong closing statement or call to action that leaves a lasting impression on the audience.
  • Avoid introducing new information in the conclusion; instead, focus on reinforcing key takeaways.

Optional: Opening Story or Quote (10-15 seconds)

  • Begin your speech with a relevant story, anecdote, or quote that sets the tone for your topic.
  • Ensure that the opening relates directly to the main points you’ll be discussing and serves to engage the audience from the start.

Optional: Visual Aid or Prop (if applicable)

  • If appropriate for your topic, consider using a visual aid or prop to enhance your speech.
  • Keep visual aids simple and relevant, using them to complement your verbal message rather than distract from it.

Optional: Audience Interaction (if applicable)

  • Engage the audience by asking a rhetorical question, prompting them to reflect on their own experiences, or inviting them to participate in a brief activity related to your topic.
  • Be mindful of time constraints and ensure that any audience interaction enhances rather than detracts from the overall structure of your speech.

Remember to practice your speech multiple times to ensure that you can deliver it comfortably within the 2-minute timeframe. Focus on clarity, coherence, and confidence in your delivery, and be prepared to adapt if you find that certain sections of your speech are taking longer than anticipated.

With careful planning and rehearsal, you can structure a compelling and effective 2-minute speech that effectively conveys your message to the audience.

Mastering the art of 2 minute speeches is a valuable skill that can benefit students in various aspects of their lives. By learning how to effectively communicate ideas within a short timeframe, students can improve their time management, attention span, and overall public speaking abilities.

By choosing the right 2 minute speech topics for students, structuring their speech effectively, and delivering it with confidence, students can excel in this endeavor and become successful communicators.

The fear of public speaking is something that a lot of people share. It’s usually named as one of the most common fears that people have. Believe it or not, the best way to conquer a fear of public speaking is to just do it—a lot. Because the more you do it, the easier it gets. Eventually, you’ll start to get a little more comfortable and it’s not a problem anymore. Believe it or not, you might actually start to enjoy it. This is one reason why it’s important for children and adolescents to give speeches in school.

In this article:

The 2-Minute Speech

2 minute speech topics

One thing that can help get young children and teens over their initial nervousness is to give them an interesting topic to talk about. Sometimes, it can be something that they genuinely have an interest in and might be excited to give a speech on. Or it can be something funny to help them break through their nervousness.

Topics for young children should be fun, simple, and something they can easily come up with on their own. You don’t want to give them a topic that is too difficult or requires too much preparation. Let’s face it, they’re going to be really nervous. The focus should be learning how to cope with speaking in front of a group comfortably and effectively, not necessarily on the content, subject, or topic.

Topics for teenagers and high school ESL students can be a little more personal or in depth but still needs to be a demonstrative speech, motivational speech, persuasive speech topic, an informative speech topic, or a funny impromptu speech in order to captivate the audience. Depending on the subject of the class where the student is giving the speech, the topic can loosely relate to whatever is being taught. That said, it’s important to remember that teenagers are also going to be nervous—in some cases, very nervous. Perhaps even more so than younger children because teenagers tend to worry more about what other people will think and are very concerned with fitting in.

Choosing the topic is important, especially for a 2-minute speech and will help with student progress. However, there is no point in giving a talk on Donald Trump for a few minutes if you don’t know anything about him. But don’t worry, we have some great ideas.

I am very grateful to my class teacher to offer me some time to speech here. Being children a most common question generally arises in our mind that why some people choose sports career and how they get success without study properly. From where they get inspired to go into the sports career. I think, some of them are interested in the sports from birth, some are inspired by the parents and teachers and some are by the famous sports-persons. Whatever the reason behind is, if one is interested in the sports, he/she would surely be successful in the future.

Sports loving people do regular practice of the sports with proper discipline on daily basis. Most of the people never realizes benefits and importance of the sports and games. However, some people become very conscious about their health and fitness who want to be fit, attractive and always look smart. Sports can be very beneficial for us for us in the life as it makes our career together with the health and fitness including other many benefits. In the same sense, if we do not involve in the physical activities our body may become useless and deceased after some years which is the main reason of unhealthy and painful life. Our boy is similar to the car engine, both can be fit on regular use and healthy diet. Sports activities keep our body’s blood pressure, circulation and other physiological functions active and balanced. According to the research, it is found that people who do not involved in any type of physical activities in their life are struggling with many problems in the middle age like high blood pressure, stress, tension, depression, tiredness, fatigue, etc.

Sports help us to achieve many things in life such as health, fitness, peace, money, name, fame, etc. It provides a lot of opportunities in our life however need full dedication, commitment and regular practice. They also cause some problems if we practice in wrong way however source of happiness and peace. According to the survey of many parents, it is found in their statement that sports participation enhances children school accomplishments.

Sports are not limited to the specific areas of life, it blesses a person with lifelong achievement. It is found that children who participate in the challenging sports contests also love the classroom challenges and can function in the competitive society. Regular participation in the sports teaches children to play the game of school and life. They know well how to win the losing game (means going out of hand). Sports-persons become very disciplined and confident in their whole life and never become hopeless from the hard life struggles. They easily develop morals, necessary skills and art of living.

In such a technological world, the competition is increasing regularly in the society which needs more effort from the children and youths to go ahead. How to write a 2-minute speech.

speech on sports of 2 minutes

Last week I sat in the audience at the annual Project Glimmer fundraising luncheon, proudly watching three powerful young women deliver powerful personal perspectives on Saying 'Yes', Dreaming Big, and Taking Back their Voice.

This was a really big deal and a really big moment. It was the first time the audience could hear directly from these girls and the way Project Glimmer supported them throughout their teen and tween years — they had finally turned 18.

When Chrissy Shea , CEO of Project Glimmer, approached me to support the girls with their speeches, she knew what she was doing. She has been orchestrating these events for more than a decade and knows that every minute counts. Each girl was given two minutes to share her story.

Two minutes is not a lot of time. Every word — every syllable — matters.

The speeches were spectacular — they were the highlight of the event. They told the story of each girl and they told the story of Project Glimmer. They accomplished a full metric ton of impact in a mere 120 seconds.

If you've ever struggled to write a high-impact speech with just 120 seconds to make yourself and your message memorable, it's easier to achieve than you think.

The audience reaction and the girls' satisfaction inspired me to share with others my approach to writing a 2-minute speech and setting your client up for success (which can also be applied to 5-minute and even 20 minute speeches, with slight variations).

Thanks for reading The Art of Smart Storytelling! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.

Step 1. Ask questions and listen.

Every speech-writing engagement begins with deep inquiry and deep listening. In just 45 minutes, I usually have all I need to write a 2-minute speech. (Longer speeches may take some back and forth as we dive deeper into stories.) This is always my favorite part of the process. I feel like I'm panning for gold, shirt-sleeves rolled up, senses dialed high as I'm on high alert for that glint of truth that we'll hang the entire speech around. It's not always in the story being shared — in fact, I quite often find it in the silence or hesitation or discarded thought bubble.

I operate intuitively, feeling for truth in my body — I am feeling what it's like to be the audience as I listen to my client in those first 45 minutes. I'm listening and I'm watching for all those places where the words, the story, and the person become a quantum experience — where they are more than the sum of their parts.

I usually find the hook in the first 15 minutes, and I use the rest of the time gently digging around it — like an archaeologist unearthing a fossil — to bring it to life.

Step 2. Cluster themes and squint.

I record and transcribe our discovery sessions. Recording allows me to stay present and in my body, listening and feeling, instead of stressing out about capturing the specific words and phrases and details.

Once I have the transcript, I start looking for the bones. I get rid of all the fluff and tangential stuff and I start looking for patterns in the content itself: repeated words and phrases are a pattern, the story of a from-to expansion is a pattern, the story of a repeated cycle is a pattern.

(By the way, pattern-recognition is one of my superpowers. It's even in my Human Design, which I use as a tool to amplify my gifts and better serve my clients. Follow this link to begin working with yours. )

After stripping out the inessential, I now have the hook and the bones, and I squint. (My business partner, Tara Tallman Sollman , taught me this one.) Squinting helps you see the forest through the trees.

I now have my storytelling "architecture" and can begin the actual writing.

Step 3. Write for voice and rhythm.

I often feel like a method actor throughout my speech-writing process. In the first step, I physically embody the audience, imagining and sensing their experience and what they want or need to hear and feel. In this step, I now embody the speaker.

I imagine I am them at the podium and I sit in their life experience and aura. I also know their Human Design (I bring this into my client work so that I can better serve) — their energy type, the places in their definition that they most identify with, their profile lines. I also know where they may feel vulnerable so I can help them navigate and provide tender, even "surgical" support in a way that it lands in their emotional and physical self.

The most important part of writing for my client's voice is to remove myself from the mix — I must become my client, but in an elevated form for the main stage.

It's an emotional and energetic balancing act to be:

– relatable, but not colloquial

– aspirational, but not pretentious

– informational, but not boring

Getting the voice right is a giant step in getting the rhythm right — the tools of rhetoric and language are deeply intertwined.

Step 4. Read it out loud and trim for time.

Okay, this is arguably the most painful part of the process. It often means letting go of precious words and turns of phrase, but it's also where the ultimate pay-off is.

I have no idea why it is that a speech read in silence and a speech spoken out loud are so very different. What sounds fine to your mind while scanning the page can sound overwhelmingly formal, fussy, and dull when spoken out loud. It never ceases to amaze me.

I always always always do this step with the client — this is where we begin transferring ownership, honing and trimming together.

I bring to them the fleshed-out architecture, eyeballing it for length (so we're not tasked with turning a novel into a sound-bite). I start this session by reading out loud the entire speech and pointing out areas that felt powerful and natural to me and areas that felt forced. When I do this, I am helping them understand my language as a guide, but I'm also helping them see what resonates for me as the audience member again.

During this stage we're both in the Google Doc highlighting, cutting, transforming, and editing — it's a moment of real collaboration and co-creation at its best.

By the end of the session, we do a read-through and time it. Anything between 1:50 and 2:10 is good for me — we'll fine-tune it in the final coaching session for delivery.

The client now has their Google Doc. I no longer touch it (unless they ask). It is theirs to play with word choice and emphasis — they're now tasked to "make it their own" where there may be places that don't feel 100% authentic.

Step 5. Listen, nuance, and amplify.

This is the phase I love most. Even though we've only spent 2-3 brief sessions together, we've built so much trust and intimacy in our little world of words and stories. I get to see the results of their trust-fall with me.

I have my client read their speech to me as if they were delivering it, and I time it. I listen for emphasis and tone and "connection" to the content, and I take notes about words I want to emphasize, places I want to speed up or slow down, opportunities to pause. I am noting all the ways I want my client to hold this space and own this moment. I want them to step into their power and magnetism, because I know that's what the audience hungers for.

After annotating the delivery, we get a clean recording that I send in an audio file so they can listen over and over, imprinting their voice in their minds to aid them in memorization. (It's infinitely more powerful and magnetic when delivering a speech from memory, but it takes a lot more time to get there. If you have the time and runway to memorize and rehearse, I can't recommend this enough.)

Whether you're writing a 2-minute, 5-minute, or 20-minute speech, the best speeches are always anchored in a story. A nugget of truth about you that is accessible and relatable to others in the form of a universal truth, and a way of sharing it that brings to life multiple dimensions of our collective human experience.

Technology rules approved in football

Automatic timeouts to occur in the last 2 minutes of the 2nd and 4th quarters.

Optional technology rules in football, effective for the 2024 season, were approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel on Thursday.

In games involving Football Bowl Subdivision teams, each school will have the option to use coach-to-player communications through the helmet to one player on the field. That player will be identified by having a green dot on the back midline of the player's helmet.

The communication from the coach to the player will be turned off with 15 seconds remaining on the play clock or when the ball is snapped, whichever comes first.

For all three divisions, teams have the option of using tablets to view in-game video only. The video can include the broadcast feed and camera angles from the coach's sideline and coach's end zone.

Teams can have up to 18 active tablets for use in the coaching booth, sideline and locker room. Tablets cannot be connected to other devices to project larger additional images and cannot include analytics, data or data access capability or other communication access. All team personnel will be allowed to view the tablets during the game.

The Football Rules Committee, which met the last week of February, had a thorough discussion regarding wearable technologies.

The committee invites non-FBS conferences that are interested in using wearable technologies to submit an experimental proposal to the committee. Any proposals must be made to the committee by June 15.

Two-minute timeout

The panel approved adding an automatic timeout when two minutes remain in the second and fourth quarters.

This rules change synchronizes all timing rules, such as 10-second runoffs and stopping the clock when a first down is gained in bounds, which coincides with the two-minute timeout.

First-down timing rules

After a year of review, Division III committee members decided to adopt the timing rules where the game clock would continue to run when a first down is gained in bounds. The game clock will stop when a first down is gained during the last two minutes of either half. Division I and II schools used this timing rule last season.

Other rules changes

  • Allowing conferences the option of using a collaborative replay review system. This will be formally added to the rules book; it had been an experimental rule.
  • Penalizing horse-collar tackles that occur within the tackle box as a 15-yard personal foul. Previously, a horse-collar tackle within the tackle box was not a foul.

Additionally, head coaches can conduct interviews with broadcast partners after the first and third quarters. This was allowed on an experimental basis last season and will be added as a permanent rule.

The panel did not support a uniform rule proposal made by the Football Rules Committee. Panel members were not comfortable with on-field officials having to enforce the recommended rule.

The panel understands the rules committee's concern but encourages the committee to look for an administrative solution that does not include game official enforcement.

College Football Adds Two-Minute Warning, Helmet Communication for 2024 Season

  • Author: Ryan Phillips

In this story:

College football is making big changes for the 2024 season. The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel has approved use of a two-minute warning , as well as helmet communication and sideline tablets. Those are massive changes that will have real impact on games starting this fall.

The two-minute warnings will come at the end of the second and fourth quarters just like in NFL games. Unlike the pro game, those stoppages will not add additional TV timeouts. It will be an open spot for a media timeout if necessary, but will not add another slot for a break. The change gives trailing teams another stoppage when attempting to come from behind and should create more exciting end-of-game scenarios.

Like the NFL, college teams will now be able to use helmet communication as well. One player on the field can use the technology and communication would be cut off with 15 seconds remaining on the play clock or when the ball is snapped. Conferences will be in charge of hiring, assigning and managing the cutoff operators. A team may use the communication devices even if an opponent chooses not to, but if one team's devices go down, both must cease using them. It's not hard to see this rule change being a response to Michigan's sign-stealing scandal that rocked the sport last fall.

Another approved change is allowing the use of sideline tablets for viewing in-game video. Teams will be allowed to use up to 18 tablets and the videos could include broadcast feeds and multiple other angles. That is different from NFL rules, which only allow images on tablets.

All of these changes seem like moves to modernize college football and align it more closely with the NFL. The two-minute warning should create more drama at the end of games, while tablets and helmet communication seem like an obvious next step in the game's evolution.

2 Minute Speech On Sports And Games In English

Good morning to everyone in this room. I would like to thank the principal, the teachers, and my dear friends for allowing me to speak to you today about sports and games. Sports and games are important for kids’ physical and emotional health. Moreover, it improves the individual’s immunity.

The body is better prepared for physical activity and has better blood flow throughout. The primary distinction between a game and a sport is that we may play games both indoors and outside. So we are limited to doing sports outside.

Sports and games improve stamina, mental health, and physical fitness, create a feeling of teamwork, help relieve stress, and raise excitement and enjoyment. Outdoor sports including football, cricket, basketball, and swimming increase a person’s stamina, enabling them to work continuously for longer periods of time.

Games like chess and card games improve a person’s mental health, spontaneity, and response speed. Sports may also vary your daily schedule, reduce stress, and provide you with energy for the following day.

Using safety gear and taking your time to play sports are important since they may be risky and demanding. People must eat properly and get enough sleep every night since sports demand both energy and rest. Some people may find it challenging to find the time to participate in sports because they work long hours to provide for their families.

Thus sports and games are a wonderful method to maintain physical and mental fitness as well as to improve family relations. Thank you.

“We need leaders in the world who are respected and can bring peace. He is one of them! Come back and bring us peace, Mr. President!,” Orban said in a post on X after that meeting.

Trump says he built 571 miles of border wall. He did not specify which land border but since 2016 he has campaigned for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

This is not accurate. The Trump administration completed around 458 miles of barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to January 2021 U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data.

The majority were barriers that were built during previous administrations and replaced during Trump’s tenure. In areas where no structures existed prior to Trump taking office in January 2017, his administration constructed a total of 52 miles of primary wall.

A January 2021 CBP report obtained by Factcheck.org shows 33 miles of new secondary wall were built during Trump’s tenure.

Trump says illegal immigration into the U.S. fell to its lowest point “in history” during his presidency

This is mostly true, based on available government data.

During Trump’s administration, the number of apprehensions by the U.S. Border Patrol at the southwest border (an indicator of attempts of illegal border crossings) for a single month fell to their lowest point on record in April 2017, according to monthly CBP data that goes back to fiscal year 2000 .

CBP has yearly data for nationwide apprehensions by all land, air and sea routes since fiscal year 1925.

Going by these figures, Trump’s aren’t the lowest on record but they are the lowest in over four decades. In fiscal year 1971, during Richard Nixon’s administration, total apprehensions dipped to 302,517, which is below Trump’s lowest tally of 310,531 in fiscal year 2017.

Trump says wages rose during his presidency without any inflation

Nationwide wages rose 3.1% during Trump’s presidency, based on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Employment Cost Index inflation-adjusted constant dollar estimates.

Inflation was not at zero, but it was lower than during the Biden administration.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) during the Trump administration varied from a high of 2.9% in July 2018 to a low of 0.2% in May 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic’s first wave.

It is true that inflation significantly increased during Biden’s tenure; it stood at 1.4% when he took office and rose to 9% in June 2022, following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

Inflation rates have remained below 3.6% since October 2023.

The U.S. has more oil and gas than any country in the world

Venezuela has the largest proven crude oil reserves as of 2023, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) while Russia has the largest natural gas reserves, per the International Energy Agency.

As for recoverable oil resources, the expected amounts in existing fields, Saudi Arabia leads the way followed by the U.S. and Russia, according to a 2023 report by oil analysts Rystad Energy.

In terms of production, the U.S. became the world’s largest crude oil producer in 2018 during Trump’s presidency and has remained the top producer since.

The U.S. is also the top producer of natural gas. Since 2017, U.S. natural gas exports have exceeded imports. The latest rankings available (2022) from the EIA show the U.S. produces more energy from petroleum and other liquids than any other country.

The U.S. oil and gas industry has also boomed under Biden’s presidency by almost all metrics, even if he has pushed to transition the economy toward a greener future, hitting record levels of crude oil production in 2023. Read more.

Talking about immigration, Trump says that under the Biden administration, the U.S. has taken in “at least 15 million people”

It’s not clear what Trump meant by the U.S. having “taken in” 15 million people. While it is true that the number of encounters reported by the CBP at the U.S.-Mexico border reached record levels during the Biden administration, it isn’t 15 million.

CBP data compiled between January 2021 and February 2024 show 7,522,711 encounters at the southwest land border.

In terms of nationwide encounters , CBP registered 9,139,037 encounters between January 2021 and February 2024.

Encounter figures include data for Title 8 apprehensions and inadmissibles . This policy grants some migrants the chance to seek asylum in the U.S. or be processed for deportation.

Between March 2020 and May 2023, encounters also included expulsions under the now-expired Title 42 , a COVID-era restriction that allowed border agents to quickly expel migrants without allowing them to seek asylum.

Trump says he was the first president in decades who started no new wars

Defining wars can be difficult. If we consider the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the war in Afghanistan and the Iraq War, Trump joins former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, John F. Kennedy and Dwight D. Eisenhower in not having officially brought the U.S. into a new war since 1945.

Trump’s tenure, however, did involve military hostilities overseas and the threat of new ones. The Pentagon said Trump ordered a 2020 drone strike in Iraq that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani , triggering Iranian retaliation that threatened to spiral into open conflict, but did not.

The United States in 2017 launched a missile attack on a Syrian army airbase, marking an escalation of the U.S. military’s role in Syria.

Trump threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea in 2017 but eventually de-escalated tension with Pyongyang.

A Trump spokesperson did not respond to several requests for comment about the statements examined.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania school board’s cancellation of an upcoming appearance by actor and children’s book author Maulik Pancholy was ill-advised and sends a hurtful message, especially to the LGBTQ+ community, education officials said.

A member of Cumberland Valley School District’s board cited concerns about what he described as Pancholy’s activism and “lifestyle” before the board voted unanimously Monday to cancel his appearance at a May 22 assembly at the Mountain View Middle School. Pancholy, who is gay, was scheduled to speak against bullying.

Besides their concerns about Pancholy, some board members also noted the district’s policy about not hosting overtly political events, news outlets reported. The policy was enacted after the district was criticized for hosting a rally by Donald Trump during his 2016 campaign for president.

District Superintendent Mark Blanchard and nine other senior leaders — including assistant superintendents and district-level directors of technology, curriculum, legal affairs, human resources, student services and special education — sent a letter to the board, faculty and staff on Thursday asserting that Pancholy’s speech should have been allowed. Pancholy’s representatives shared a copy of the letter with The Associated Press.

(AP Photo/Evan Agostini, File)

The education officials said they were not given “a real opportunity” to answer questions or provide guidance about the event, which they said was aimed at reinforcing the importance of treating all people equally.

The administrators added that the school board’s decision had “significant ramifications for our school community, especially for our students and staff who are members of the LGBTQ+ community.” They also noted that the actor’s sexual identity was cited as a factor in the decision, meaning “Mr. Pancholy’s personhood was reduced to a single aspect, and his ability to communicate a message of anti-bullying and hate was discredited.”

The Associated Press sent emails to individual school board members seeking comment Friday.

Pancholy, 48, is an award-winning actor, including for his roles on the television shows “30 Rock” and “Weeds,” and as the voice of Baljeet in the Disney animated series, “Phineas & Ferb.” He also has written children’s books and in 2014 was named by then-President Barack Obama to serve on the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, where he co-founded a campaign to combat AAPI bullying.

Pancholy’s appearance was scheduled by the school’s leadership team, which each year selects an author to present a “unique educational experience for students,” according to the district.

The school board’s vote to cancel Pancholy’s appearance also sparked criticism from several parents, students and community members, who called the decision “homophobic.” Some have started online petitions urging that Pancholy’s appearance be reinstated.

In a statement posted on social media this week, Pancholy said his school visits are meant “to let all young people know that they’re seen.”

“To let them know that they matter.”

He also said that one of the reasons he became an author was because as a child he never saw himself represented in stories.

“That’s the power of books. They build empathy,” Pancholy wrote. “I wonder why a school board is so afraid of that?”

Rockies rally for 2 runs in 10th to beat Mariners 2-1 in 1st game of doubleheader

Ezequiel Tovar and Ryan McMahon each hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Colorado Rockies over the Seattle Mariners 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader

DENVER -- Ezequiel Tovar and Ryan McMahon each hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Colorado Rockies over the Seattle Mariners 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.

The victory snapped a season-worst six-game losing streak for the Rockies (5-16), who entered the day with the worst record in the National League and the worst 20-game start in franchise history.

McMahon's game-ending single sent home Charlie Blackmon for the fifth walk-off RBI of his career.

Seattle broke the scoreless deadlock in the top of the 10th, when J.P. Crawford’s RBI single brought home automatic runner Jorge Polanco.

Justin Lawrence (1-1) earned the win. AndrĂŠs MuĂąoz (1-2) took the loss.

With two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the ninth, Jacob Stallings hit a drive to deep left field that was initially ruled a double. But after a replay review, it was determined the ball deflected off the glove of a fan reaching over the wall, interfering with the outstretched arm of Seattle left fielder Jonatan Clase. As a result, Stallings was ruled out and the game went to extra innings.

Tovar had three hits for the Rockies, including his RBI single that tied it 1-all in the 10th.

The teams spent much of the afternoon failing to capitalize on excellent scoring opportunities. Through the first seven innings, Seattle and Colorado had combined to leave 18 runners on base. They were 1 of 18 with runners in scoring position.

Colorado starter Cal Quantrill gave up three hits while striking out four across six scoreless innings. He was matched for much of his outing by Seattle starter George Kirby, who struck out seven and walked one in five shutout innings.

The Mariners entered on a tear at the plate, scoring 24 runs during their four-game win streak. Julio RodrĂguez had two hits for Seattle, his fourth straight multi-hit game.

The doubleheader was scheduled to make up Friday's postponement that was caused by bad weather.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Mariners: Activated RHP Cody Bolton from the injured list and added him to the roster as the 27th man for the doubleheader. Bolton went on the 15-day injured list April 8, retroactive to April 6, with a “general medical issue.”

Rockies: 2B Brendan Rodgers returned to the lineup and batted sixth after missing four games with a stomach virus.

Colorado RHP Peter Lambert (2-0, 2.31 ERA) was scheduled to face RHP Emerson Hancock (1-1, 7.98) in the second game of the doubleheader.

How will Suns regroup vs. Timberwolves in Game 2? 'Now we have to respond'

speech on sports of 2 minutes

MINNEAPOLIS — Phoenix Suns' coach Frank Vogel was confident in how well his team was prepared for Game 1 of their first-round series against the third-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves.

“They’re ready,” Vogel said after Friday’s practice. “They’re ready. They’ve been extremely attentive in all of our film sessions.”

The third-seeded Suns had a week to heal up and prepare for a team they beat by an average margin of 15.6 points in sweeping the season series, 3-0. They were looking to continue the trend of starting fast against Minnesota after outscoring them by a total of 40 points in the first quarter of the three regular season games.

Phoenix led after 12 minutes of play Saturday, but only by a point. It was all Minnesota after that.

The Timberwolves outscored them by 21 total points in the second and third quarter in their 120-95 blasting of the Suns at Target Center in taking a 1-0 series lead.

“At the beginning, we did a good job of sustaining their punch,” Suns guard Bradley Beal said after Saturday’s game before a sellout crowd of 19,478.

“They came out aggressive, we knew that. We knew they didn’t play their best game (in the regular season). I think I’ve said that over the last few days. This is the best game that we’ve seen them. Respectfully so, it’s one game. They came out the aggressors. They came out like they wanted it a little bit more than we did and they executed their game plan well. They made some adjustments.”

The Suns will look to even the series in Tuesday’s Game 2 before it shifts to Phoenix for Game 3 Friday.

The Suns hope to have Grayson Allen back for Game 2 after he suffered a right ankle sprain in the second half. Allen limped off the court with 4:44 left in the third quarter and didn’t return.

“X-rays negative,” Vogel said. “We’ll see how he responds to treatment over the next few days.”

The Suns didn’t practice Sunday, but they’ll do so Monday as they look to re-establish their defense against the T-Wolves. Minnesota averaged just 102.6 points in its three losses to the Suns.

Before Saturday’s game, T-Wolves' coach Chris Finch was asked what Minnesota hasn’t shown against the Suns in the regular season. His answer drew laughs from the media, but it was very accurate.

“They haven’t seen the defense or shot making or good offense or rebounding,” Finch said. “They haven’t seen much. They’ve done a really good job of taking us out of our game. We’ve gotten off to poor starts each time and that’s kind of set the tone for the game.”

The T-Wolves certainly defended, scored and rebounded better Saturday in beating the Suns.

Booker: ‘They're being ultra physical with me’

Phoenix shot 44% from the field, going 9-of-32 from 3 against the NBA’s best defensive team in the regular season. Devin Booker finished with just 18 points on 5-of-16 shooting, going 2-of-6 from 3.

“We all just need to adjust to the playoffs, the physicality,” Booker said. “They're being ultra-physical with me and I had three early fouls and went to the bench. Just trying to find a rhythm from there."

Vogel said he the Suns must do a better job of freeing up Booker while Kevin Durant added his All-Star teammate can be even more aggressive.

“For the most part, he’s trying to play the right way, trying to play hard,” Durant said. “He got us going there in the third by making a couple of shots. I’m not worried about Book. I think he’ll come out and have a great Game 2.”

Beal had just 15 points a week after cooking the T-Wolves for 36 points, going 6-of-6 from 3, in their third and final matchup to end the regular season. Minnesota elected to have Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels defend Beal instead of Mike Conley, who Beal lit up last week.

“They were trying to avoid the small mismatches with Conley as much as possible,” Beal said as Conley started the game defending Allen, who scored just four points Saturday all on free throws.

Durant: 'Missed a few layups, a few wide open 3s'

Allen blanked all three of his shot attempts from the field that came from 3-point range. He scored 20 points, going 3-of-3 from 3, in that final regular season matchup against the T-Wolves.

“Just keep size on size or just bigger defenders on us three,” continued Beal about the T-Wolves defending Booker, Durant and himself. “They did a good job of doing that.”

Phoenix didn’t have consistent ball movement to make the T-Wolves work defensively and as Beal said, they were “hunting” favorable matchups. This led to more iso ball. Durant got the better of Karl-Anthony Towns in going for a team-high 31 on 11-of-17 shooting, but no one else really got it going.

“I think that is our rhythm, we find our mismatches and break down the defense and try to create for others,” Durant said. “Break our man down 1-on-1 and then make the extra pass. That’s when we get our blender going and everybody is touching the ball. We’ve got to mix it up obviously. Play different styles, but for the most part, we like breaking our man down and try to create something for ourselves and our teammates.”

The Suns missed several looks playing off the Big 3 with Drew Eubanks unable to finish a pass from Durant at the rim. Allen passed up on two threes before missing a third one working a two-man game with Durant, who was in the mid-post drawing a double that left the NBA’s top 3-point shooter open.

“They were solid looks, shots you’ve got to live with,” Durant said. “Missed a few layups, a few wide open 3s. Got to live with those shots.”

Edwards shot making, tunover battle

The Timberwolves not only took 13 more shots than the Suns, but they connected on 50% of them and finished 12-of-32 from 3.

They also took advantage of Phoenix’s 15 turnovers in scoring 23 points off them. Last week, Phoenix won the turnover battle in scoring 35 points off 24 Minnesota turnovers.

“We’ve got to recover some of those,” Vogel said about the points off turnovers in Saturday’s game. “Some of them are unrecoverable, they are live ball turnovers or fast breaks. We talk all the time about if we turn it over, what’s our reaction going to be and how can we get those plays back?”

Durant led the Suns in turnovers with five with one directly leading to Edwards having a breakaway slam to cap his game-high 33-point night and put Minnesota up 20 points, 111-91, with 3:37 left in the game.

Edwards shook off a shaky start as he committed two turnovers within the first three minutes of the game and having three fouls in the first half to scoring 23 of his 33 points in the second half. Edwards averaged just 14.3 points on 31% shooting against the Suns in the regular season.

“We were doing a good job early, forcing him to turn the ball over,” said Booker about Edwards, who committed a game-high six turnovers with four coming in the first half.

“I think we should stick with what we were doing in the regular season. If he makes a few tough shots, don’t panic to where you have to go double him and now the rest of the team is in rotation.”

Edwards: 'One of the best feelings ever'

The two-time All-Star delivered 18 points in the third with two coming on an amazing fader over Durant.

“He got it going,” Durant said. “Made some tough ones. You’ve got to live with it and be back next game.”

Edwards shot 8-of-11 in the third, going 2-of-3 from 3. He followed his first 3 with 48.2 seconds left in third talking trash to Durant, who was left smiling walking back down the court.

“Everybody knows that's my favorite player of all-time,” Edwards said. “That was probably one of the best feelings ever in my whole life for sure.”

Twenty-six seconds later, Edwards nailed his second of the quarter. This was part of Minnesota’s 21-5 run to close the quarter as Phoenix was only down by four with under seven minutes left in the third.

“You get hot, you make shots, you make tough shots,” Durant said about Edwards talking trash to him. “You're going to feel excited about yourself. It's on me to keep coming back, showing him a tough look."

The Wolves went into the fourth leading, 92-72.

“He’s a great player,” Vogel said about Edwards. “You try to do the best you can to slow him down without being exposed on the backside all night, but there’s things we can do better that we showed throughout the regular season that we didn’t do well enough. We’ll make those adjustments and be ready for Game 2.”

Durant: 'They’re bigger than us'

The Timberwolves start two 7-footers in Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert, who finished the regular season second in the league in rebounding at 12.9 a game, but they managed just a 12-rebound advantage through the three games in the regular season.

The Suns couldn’t keep it that close Saturday as they were walloped on the glass, 52-28. Gobert posted a double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds with six coming on the offensive glass.

“They’re bigger than us, to be honest,” Durant said. “So we got to box (out) even harder.”

The Timberwolves racked up 13 offensive boards that led to 20 second-chance points. They devoured the Suns inside with 52 paint points.

“Defensively, locking in, taking on the challenge,” said Suns forward Royce O’Neale on adjustments for Game 2. “Getting defensive rebounds so we can transition offense.”

Suns 7-footer Jusuf Nurkic was in foul trouble as he ended the game with the same number of rebounds as fouls with four in 27 minutes. The Suns elected to go small with Durant at the five, a situation that left him guarding Gobert inside.

Vogel: ‘Consider everything’

Vogel likes the lineup that includes veteran guard Eric Gordon, felt it achieved the goal of getting the ball out of Edwards’ hands, but didn’t think the defense rotated well enough.

The latter factored in Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Naz Reid combining to shoot 6-of-15 from 3 off the bench. Alexander-Walker’s late 3 after Edwards’ back-to-back bombs made the difference 20 after three.

“I loved their aggressiveness, being shot ready off the ball,” said Finch about his two reserves as Alexander-Walker scored 18 points, hitting 4-of-6 from 3 and Reid added 12.

Gordon went scoreless Saturday, going 0-for-5 overall, 0-for-4 from 3. The veteran guard, who is a career 37.1% 3-point shooter and made 37.8% of his deep ones in his first season with the Suns, is a bleak 11-of-51 beyond the arc in his last 11 games.

Vogel said they’ll “consider everything” when asked about Gordon’s recent shooting and if Bol Bol might get a look Tuesday. The 7-footer shot 42.3% from 3 (22-of-52) this season.

“I like Eric Gordon, I like the threat (from 3),” Vogel said. “He was 0-for-5. He can go 5-for-5 next game. He's that type of player.”

NCAA approves 2-minute warning in college football games, helmet communications beginning in 2024 season

The ncaa approved sweeping technological changes friday that will take effect this season.

ncaa-logo-office-getty.jpg

The NCAA on Friday approved several rule changes that will take effect during the 2024 season, including the implementation of coach-to-player helmet communications and a new two-minute rule that mirrors the current time system utilized by the NFL. These changes were proposed by the NCAA's Rules Committee in March amid support from some of the nation's most prominent conferences .

The helmet communication rule applies only to schools at the FBS level, but it is not a requirement. Additionally, one team may employ helmet technology even if its opponent elect otherwise.

Coaches will be allowed to communicate with one player, identified by a green dot on the back of their helmet, on the field. That line of communication will be turned off with 15 seconds left on the play clock or when the ball is snapped, whichever occurs first.

On top of player-to-helmet communications, teams can now use tablets to review in-game video only. Schools will be allocated 18 tablets that can be utilized in the coaching booth, on the sideline and in locker rooms.

Other changes approved by the NCAA Friday include:

  • Penalizing horse collar tackles that occur within the tackle box as a 15-yard personal foul.
  • Allowing conferences the option to use a collaborative video replay review system.
  • Head coaches can now conduct interviews with broadcast partners after the first and third quarters conclude.

The NCAA used the 2023 postseason as a trial run for its technological changes with several teams utilizing helmet communications in their bowl games. Several schools have incorporated the technology in their spring games, as well, while teams acclimate to another wave of major change.

Last spring, the NCAA approved a running clock on first downs, except in the last two minutes in the second and fourth quarters. The new two-minute timeout rule falls in line with that change and also serves to alleviate potential back-to-back TV timeouts from broadcasters.

"The two-minute timeout will allow all end-of-half and end-of-game timing rules to be simplified and synch up with this timeout," Steve Shaw, secretary-rules editor said March when the changes were initially proposed. "This will also help broadcast partners to avoid back-to-back media timeouts."
