Good morning everyone, I am very happy to see everyone blooming in the spirit of the sports day. It is an absolute honor to introduce to you all the Chief guests/guests (mention their names) today, we feel privileged to host you today. I would like to thank you for accepting our invitation and gracing us with your presence. Your achievements in the field of sports are excellent and your contribution to raising the bar for future generations by bringing laurels to our country is truly noteworthy.

A very warm welcome to the parents and families who are here to support their children. It is difficult to navigate these past few weeks for children who are working hard and preparing for the main day. It is because of your affection and encouragement that we see our children in high spirits, even after such tiring days.

The annual sports day is a tradition that started ever since the school was established. My heart is overjoyed to see such enthusiastic participation by all our students who are carrying forward the torch of march pasts, and sports drills. Every year the level of anticipation only increases. It makes us more excited to see what’s coming ahead.

The primary focus in many cases is academics, which certainly is an important aspect in building a student’s career and life but many fail to recognize the importance of sports.

Extracurricular activities and sports teach students many important life lessons. It teaches discipline, focus, dedication, hard work, commitment, teamwork. And it is our responsibility as adults to value sportsmanship and award the courage of students to take action rather than focusing on winning or losing.

Sports instill plenty of values that help students to cruise through life with honesty and responsibility for themselves and others. It also allows students to be agile and fit that only increases the concentration in academics and the willingness to perform better in any field.

Sport is an amazing concept that improves the lives of people. Students especially need to take part in sports that they find fun because participating in sports will not only help them to improve their physical health but will also give them the mental energy to cope and study well. By playing sports, students release serotonin and other chemicals in the brain and because of this exertion, they will feel more rejuvenated every day. It will help them to stay fit and to have a healthy and positive life. Sports also play a very important role in having stable and healthy mental health.

Mental health should not be taken lightly. In order to have a holistic and healthy life, students should also take care of their mental health. It plays a great role in keeping them happy and focused. By physically playing various kinds of sports, people will also realize that they can focus and concentrate better in class.

I would like to take this opportunity to the heroes who always work behind the scenes and make every event a successful one. The non-teaching staff, peons, guards, cleaners, it is because of your hard work that we can give undivided attention to the event and not worry about anything else.

Last but not least, I am a witness to the effort put in by our teachers, at every stage and guiding the students through it all. Motivating the students is quite a task after such long days during the practice sessions and the teachers have done a commendable job.

I request everyone to applaud all the work that you have done and make this a memorable day for everyone in the years to come. And lastly, I would like to request all our students to maintain discipline throughout and cooperate with us, and understand that any unruly actions will not be entertained. Without any further ado, let us begin the competitions.

Sports Day Welcome Speech by Principal 1

Warm Greetings, Everyone and especially to my dear students! It’s our school’s 10 th annual sports meet, and I – Mrs …….. – the school’s principal, feel excited, like ever before, to see our students perform in their specialized sports.

I have always believed that extra-curricular activities should be an indispensable part of every student’s life, especially during their early academic years. As it is said that a sound mind lies in a sound body, I want all my school’s students to be good at both studies and sports. So far, I am extremely proud of what my students have achieved in the sports field, and I am sure you all will agree that it helps you stay healthy and fit.

I want to congratulate all those students who achieved victory in the zonal competition and those who lost, even because they showed great perseverance on the field and gave tough competition to other teams. Of course, a big congratulation to all the faculty members, as without your hard work and support, nothing would have been possible, and our students wouldn’t have been able to excel in their respective areas of sports. I wish everyone all the very best for other future sports competitions, and I sincerely hope that you continue to bring glory to our school. We, as a school, continue to keep up with the tradition of celebrating Annual Sports Day.

Besides, I want to shift my attention to those students who do not come to the forefront and remain confined to merely studies. A humble request to all the teachers, i.e. helps these students identify their hidden talent and help them in shaping their talent to the best of their capacity.

Now that our guest of honor, Mr.………, the famous swimmer, is amongst us, I would like to welcome him with a huge applause and honor him with a bouquet. I am sure he needs no introduction after his recent spectacular performance in the Olympiad. We feel extremely honored to have you here as our chief guest, and we promise you an amazing time here with our students. You are truly an inspirational personality for all of us as at such a young age of 29, you have been able to bring silver medals to our country.

On this auspicious day, I would request you to take a few minutes with our students and share your knowledge with them. This would be very encouraging for them.

But before all this, let’s start with today’s events, in which our students will display their sports skill sets, both in a team and individually. I hope those sitting in the audience will have a great time watching our students perform.

Now on this note, I would also like to take my seat and let our students take over the stage.

Thank You All!

Sports Day Welcome Speech by Principal 2

Warm Greetings of the Day, Everyone! I – Sormishtha Chattopadhyay – the principal of this school, feel extremely glad to have welcomed you all to the 18 th annual sports day meet in the auditorium.

I have been the principal of this school for the past seven years, and I have seen it progress in front of my eyes, so my happiness knows no bounds when I see our students performing well in academics and sports. And today being the sports day, I would like to celebrate the victory of our students in the given field of sports.

In the present time, we have our students excelling in varied sports, such as cricket, football, basketball, hockey and kabaddi. The dream that seemed so difficult yesterday is being fulfilled now, and the credit goes to our teachers and students, who put their best foot forward during the practice sessions.

Year after year, our students are making us proud, and this fills me with enough gusto to provide you all with the best of facilities so you can flourish up to your maximum capacity. However, all this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our teachers and parents. Hence, on behalf of the entire school, I express gratitude and a note of thank you to all the teachers and dear parents for constantly working for the betterment of their wards and inculcating in them the right values and skills.

Very soon, our guest of honor, Mrs. ………, the famous basketball player, will be us; she is not only a popular sports personality and a social activist who has opened a sports academy for underprivileged children in the city of Chandigarh. She is an inspiration for our youth, and there is a lot to learn from her.

Meanwhile, I would request our audience to remain seated and keep patience. To engage your attention, we have the performances of our students lined up, who would be showcasing their skill set on the stage. Secondly, there would be the award-giving ceremony wherein we would be honoring our teachers and students for showing impeccable dedication in their respective areas. These awards are a great source of motivation and inspire us to work even harder and make everyone proud.

Today whatever height our school has reached, it is owing to the relentless efforts of each of us. From the admin department to the teachers to our students – everyone has an important role to play towards paving the path of success for our school.

Now, with this, I would like to conclude my speech and invite the host of today’s events to take over and kick-start the events. Thank you all for being such a wonderful audience and patiently listening to me.

I hope you all have a wonderful time here with all of us.

Sports Day Welcome Speech by Principal 3

Greetings, Dear Students – A warm welcome to all of you. I would also like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to our physical education teachers as it is owing to their dedicated efforts in training our students while ensuring their physical and mental health that they truly deserve words of appreciation as well as recognition.

So as you know, why we all have gathered here and what is so special about today Today is Sports Day – I am sure one of the favorite days for all the students is what gives me even greater pleasure to host a gathering on Sports Day and organize some activities suited to the interest of the students and teachers.

Clearly, the sports day celebration shows the commitment that all of us have towards sports. The testimony of this is our students, who perform with great exuberance in all the given sports, whether cricket, basketball, volleyball and kabaddi, to name a few. Their performances have always been spectacular in all the zonal, state and national competitions. All that we inculcate in our students is the spirit of sportsmanship and never give up spirit.

On this note, I would like to share a quote from Jesse Owens – the great American athlete who bagged four gold medals in the Summer Olympics of 1936 held in Berlin, Germany He made a great statement, which says, “Friendships born on the field of athletic strife are the real gold of competition Awards become corroded, but friends gather no dust.”

This is very much understood that each of you tries to showcase or exhibit your talent on the field, especially against your opponent from the competitor’s team. However, I will still encourage you, as always, to make the most of such opportunities to display the best of your aesthetic talent and the spirit of camaraderie.

On this auspicious occasion, I would like to shower praise and congratulate the entire sports team of our school and their trainers for having worked rigorously on the fields. The efforts of both our students and teachers are so evident, and it has raised the overall standard of our performances and our students’ stamina. I am sure we all will agree that sports make us healthy and strong and teach us to embrace both victories and defeats gracefully. Such lessons, I sternly believe, should be continuously taught to our students as they later lead to the building blocks of achievement in life.

I want to end my speech and kick-start the ceremony. I wish all the best to our participants, and we look forward to your performances. Thank you for patiently listening to me and being such a wonderful audience. I hope you have a wonderful experience here!

Sports Day Welcome Speech by Principal 4

Good morning, our respected Vice Principal, Teachers, and Dear Students – I hope this day finds you in the best of spirits!

I, Dr. ………. – the principal of this school, welcome you all to the 16 th sports day meet in our school. It gives me immense pleasure to have seen you all together and celebrate this yet another auspicious meet as well as the achievements of our students in various competitions.

A famous proverb says, “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” This is a very true saying, as we all realize the importance of playful activities in our lives, right? Without any activity or sports, our body becomes lethargic and laid back. Our body starts harbouring various illnesses and starts ageing fast. Therefore, it becomes very important to remain engaged in some sports; with the help of sports, we gain mental and physical strength. Also, our body remains healthy and fit.

This is the reason why my school administration and I lay special emphasis on sports activities and on organizing sports days every year. All our students and teaching staff look forward to such activities, including hurdle races, flat races, long jumps, high jumps, etc. Through activities such as these, we get to see the talent of our students and realize different strengths of our students as one student may be good at one particular sport, the other would be in something else, and a few would be all-rounders.

We are proud that our school emphasizes the overall growth of the students – their physical as well as intellectual development. I hope we can lay a strong foundation for our students and see them perform well in all spheres of life. It is very important to identify our students’ hidden talents and help them hone those skills they naturally possess. In the past decade, our school has achieved significantly in this regard, so much so that the name of the school is widely known today and is counted amongst the best schools.

With this, I conclude my speech and would like to invite stage two of our students, Akanksha Chaturvedi and Abhishek Avasthi, to host today’s show. Before taking my seat, I want to make a small announcement that towards the end of the sports activities, there will be an award ceremony to felicitate our winning students and, of course, the teachers who have worked very hard for our students.

In the end, lunch will be served; therefore, I would request all the guests and students to collect your coupon on time. I hope you all have the best time here.

Thank you for being such a lovely audience!

Table of Contents

Understanding the Significance of Sports Day

Before penning your script, consider the importance of Sports Day. It is not merely a series of athletic competitions but a celebration of talent, determination, and teamwork. These elements should be the undercurrent of your narrative throughout the day.

Tips for Writing the Anchoring Script

  • Adapt to the Audience : Your script should resonate with the age and interests of your audience. Tailor your language and references accordingly.
  • Keep it Crisp : The script should be snappy and to the point. Sports Day is action-packed, and your words should match that energy.
  • Clarity : Be clear and articulate, avoiding complex language that might confuse the audience.
  • Inclusivity : Celebrate all participants, not just the winners-  Research : Understand the sports being played and the rules governing them. This knowledge will help you add insightful commentary.
  • Humor : Infuse light humor to keep the atmosphere fun and lively, but ensure it is appropriate and doesn’t offend anyone.
  • Be Prepared for the Unexpected : Have some filler material ready in case there are unexpected delays or interruptions.
  • Rehearse : Practice your script, paying attention to timing, intonation, and clarity. The more familiar you are with your script, the more comfortably you can improvise if needed.
  • Sync with the Organizers : Keep in constant communication with the event organizers for any last-minute changes or important announcements that need to be made.
  • Expressive Voice : Use variations in your tone to convey excitement during races, respect during the anthem, and warmth during the welcome and thank-you notes.

A sports day ceremony for school isn't very formal and official. There'll be room for chattering, contests, surprises, and other discoveries. However, it has a lot of activities, and time is usually limited.

So you'll need the annual sports day anchoring script to manage the events and time. It presents all the critical information and details about the event. A well-defined sports day anchoring script will help you achieve the vision and concept of the entire sports event.

1. Write a compelling welcome line

The welcome line is crucial, and how you present it sets the tone for the whole event. Make sure the welcome line creates eager anticipation, energy, and suspense. You can spice up things with your incredible voice.

Alternatively, you can start the event offstage and introduce yourself before taking the stage. For example, Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to (event). And now, here's your host, (name).

2. Welcome, and thank everyone

sports day anchoring script

You need to be grand and humble, and you can demonstrate this by acknowledging the people who've helped to create the event. Start by thanking the event planners ; they are unsung heroes who are only noticed when something goes wrong. Give them a big recognition moment.

Don't forget the production crew who build the set, audio, lighting, video, decorations, etc. These people work so hard and therefore deserve public acknowledgment. Lastly, thank the audience, i.e., students and others, for showing up. Applaud them for their time and attention.

3. Select people to lead prayers

Prayers are a great way to join together to ask for God’s guidance and blessing throughout the event. Ensure all denominations are well included by selecting people from different religions to lead prayers.

4. Sing the national and school anthems

The national anthem is sung at events for a simple reason, to show respect for the country and honor those who fought for it. The school anthem is sung to rouse students' spirits and uplift their souls. Not only this, but it also enthuses them with pride for being part of the great institution.

5. Include a principal welcome speech

An introduction speech on the annual sports day is eventful and generally given by the principal. The sports day is usually excellent for students and children since many events and sports are held. It allows them to showcase their talents in extra-curriculum activities.

6. Add a chief guest speech

The speech given by the principal serves the purpose of welcoming the chief guest and setting the event’s tone. The chief guest will give his speech to students and all present.

7. Share key event information

When an event starts, people usually have many questions about it. For example, when will the event end? Will it have a break that'll allow me to pee, or should I do it now? If you don't answer these questions, they distract the audience from giving full attention.

In the first few minutes on the stage, you can set their expectations by informing them about the full agenda of the sports day event. The key things to mention are the event proceedings, breaks, elements of the venue, and more.

8. Hold an awards ceremony

Typically, all sports are concluded by an award ceremony. After finishing all the activities, custom awards, incentives, and more should be given to appreciate the competitors and encourage them to improve.

How to read news in a school assembly: Headlines and presentation tips

What should the script for opening a sports event introduce?

The anchoring script should make the sports day announcement in school. The script should include an introduction, a climax, and a logical ending. Other features include the opening and closing of the ceremony, members' introduction, and further details. Welcoming everyone to the event should be done first, then the introduction.

Note that it's essential to mention the event and its purposes. Keep everything short and exciting, including the opening ceremony for sports day, so you don’t waste time or bore the students.

You can be creative or formal when creating the sports day anchoring script. But this depends on your audience. However, ensure the script is organized and straightforward to make the sports day event successful.

2-minute Speech on Closing Ceremony For Sports Event

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls,

Today marks the end of a fantastic sports event that brought us together in a spirit of friendly competition. We’ve seen our athletes run, jump, swim, and play their hearts out. They’ve shown us their passion, their strength, and their determination. They’ve made us cheer, laugh, and sometimes even cry.

This sports event wasn’t just about winning or losing. It was about teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect. It was about pushing ourselves to do our best, not just for ourselves, but for our teams and our communities. Each player, each team, has shown us what it means to work hard, to strive for excellence, and to never give up.

The games we’ve watched have been thrilling, filled with moments of joy and disappointment, triumph and defeat. We’ve seen records broken, goals achieved, and dreams come true. And through it all, we’ve watched our athletes grow, not just in their skills, but in their character and their spirit.

Let’s not forget the coaches, the trainers, the families, and the friends who’ve supported our athletes every step of the way. Their dedication, their encouragement, their belief in our athletes has been a source of strength and inspiration. They’ve shown us the power of unity, of community, and of love.

As we close this sports event, let’s take a moment to celebrate. To celebrate the victories, the efforts, the friendships, and the memories that have been made. Let’s carry these memories with us, let them inspire us, let them remind us of the power of sports to bring us together, to challenge us, and to help us grow.

In the end, it’s not about the medals or the trophies, but about the journey we’ve taken together. It’s about the lessons we’ve learned, the friendships we’ve made, and the experiences we’ve shared. It’s about the joy of sports, the thrill of competition, and the spirit of unity.

As we say goodbye to this sports event, let’s remember the fun we had, the challenges we faced, and the victories we celebrated. Let’s remember the smiles, the cheers, and the camaraderie. Let’s remember the spirit of sports, the spirit of competition, and most importantly, the spirit of unity.

Let’s keep this spirit alive, even after the games are over. Let’s continue to support each other, to cheer for each other, and to strive for excellence in all that we do. Because in the end, that’s what sports is all about. That’s what this event was all about.

Thank you, everyone, for being a part of this incredible journey. For making this sports event a success. For showing us the power of sports, the power of unity, and the power of dreams. Until we meet again, keep playing, keep striving, and keep dreaming.

Thank you and goodnight.

What Is an Opening Speech?

An opening speech is a talk that people give to welcome guests and give a brief overview of what will happen in an event. People give this type of speech during formal and informal gatherings. Just as the name states, the purpose of an opening speech is to open programs.

How to Compose an Impressive Opening Speech

Giving an opening statement means giving the people something to measure for their first impression. When you get on that stage and give your speech, you are doing the first performance of the event itinerary . It is your responsibility to set the vibe for the entirety of the gathering. That said, you should ensure to give a grand opening speech.

1. Start With a Compelling Introduction

The first words that come out of your mouth when you hold the microphone are a defining factor in the quality of your speech. In writing this segment, ensure to incorporate a hook. It should be effective enough to captivate and retain the attention of your audience throughout your whole speech. One method that will help you to devise your introduction is by conducting an audience analysis . Doing this will give you an idea of how to catch the attention of your listeners.

2. Acknowledge The Guests

Of course, one of the purposes of giving an opening speech at every event is to welcome the guests. Convey how thankful the organizers are for their acceptance of the event invitation . Also, do not forget to thank them for sparing time for the program. If there are important people on your attendance list , you should show them your appreciation by giving them a special mention.

3. State the Purpose of the Event

The next step is to write the part where you explain the reason for holding the event. To make things interesting, you can give a very brief history or a fascinating fact about the program. Ensure to compose this segment properly. This part is what will give the audience an idea of what to expect for the ceremony.

4. Conclude Your Speech

In giving a welcome speech for guests , you should not consume too much of the people’s time. That said, after the previous steps, you should now start coming up with a conclusion. In concluding your speech, you should once again thank the guests. After that, you should introduce the next speaker or performer.

What makes a good opening speech?

Good speech openings are those that can rouse the emotions of the audience. Despite that, you should tailor your introduction based on the formality of the gathering you are attending. For example, giving an opening speech for an event should be something that would brighten the atmosphere. On the other hand, when giving a welcome speech for conference , you should try a more formal approach and include essential meeting details.

How do you give a self-introduction speech?

Aside from mentioning your name, there are other things you should include in your self-introduction speech . Before deciding what details to add to what you will say, you should first consider your audience and the formality of the setting. Despite that, one universal tip that is appropriate for multiple circumstances is to give a brief background of yourself and your accomplishments.

What are essential things to remember when giving a speech?

In giving a speech, it is always advisable to compose a speech outline and practice what you will say. Another necessary thing that you should consider is how you will establish a connection with your listeners. One way to do this is by maintaining eye contact with your audience. Also, during your speech, you should use appropriate hand gestures.

Giving opening speeches are a heavy responsibility. Knowing that you would be the first person to go up the podium can make a person’s heartbeat twice as fast as it usually would. That said, you should prepare ahead and secure to write a killer opening speech. That way, you can walk towards the mic with confident steps.

Here we have provided you five welcome speeches for various events like school award ceremony, academic awards ceremony, sports award ceremony, high school award ceremony, student of the year award ceremony, etc. You can select and use any of the welcome speech according to the event organized at your school, college or university:

Award Ceremony Welcome Speech

Welcome speech for school awards ceremony.

Hon’ble Principal, Vice Principal and Teachers, Respected Parents and Dear Students! Welcome to the School Awards Ceremony 2016-2017.

Today, I feel very privileged and honoured to stand here in front of you all and acknowledge the achievements of our brilliant students who have made both the school and their parents proud. This program is held to recognize the young talents who have made an immense contribution to our school and the society. These brilliant students exhibit such qualities that will not only help them in achieving their goals, but also bring glory of success to our school academy. Today, we have gathered here not just to celebrate the achievements of our students, but also to give due regard to our values and morals which these awardees exemplify, like discipline, compassion and zeal for learning.

Awards are a way to encourage good behaviour and inculcate competitive spirit. This is the reason why our school organizes award ceremony every year to encourage its students. So we are here to give away the awards in mainly six categories, viz. academics, distinction in sports and arts, for participating in school exhibitions, debates and other social events. The awards to be distributed today are not just for recognizing those students who have performed exceptionally well in their academics, but also to honour those students who excelled in sports, performing arts and visual arts, including the ones who were proactive in various social events. The aim is to recognize that extra talent of our students other than academics and motivate them to shine in their respective fields.

Our institution has always provided its students with a healthy and fairly competitive environment to help them grow in every sphere of activity, be it academics, sports or any other extra-curricular role. We have given equal opportunities to all our students so that they realize their true potential and get ready to face the outer world once they complete their school studies. And I am much pleased to see our dear students performing and excelling in their respective areas of interests.

Also, I would like to address those students who have not won any prize and say that do not lose hope as this is not the end of everything and there will be many more opportunities coming your way to prove your mettle. School award ceremonies are just a beginning. I have a very inspiring line for all of you said by George W. Bush, the former president of the United States:

“To those of you who received honours, awards and distinctions, I say well done. And to the C students, I say, you too, can be president of the United States.”

In the end, I would like to use this wonderful opportunity to thank our Principal, Vice Principal and the board members for taking this institution to new heights and creating a distinct path for the students to follow. I would also like to extend special thanks to all the parents for joining us and making this occasion a huge success.

Welcome Speech for Academic Awards Ceremony

A very Good Morning to our school committee members, honourable judges, staff, parents and dear students! I feel really honoured in sharing with you the achievements of our brilliant young students. This is an occasion of joy for all of us as we have come together for celebrating this auspicious day. This goes without saying that the award ceremony is amongst my most treasured occasions of the school as it provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the preceding year, address the whole community and share the achievements, success and plans of our school for the days to come.

Our school truly believes that good education plays a crucial role in building a bright future for our children. Therefore, here we are committed to providing an atmosphere to our students where they all can imbibe good values and learn new things every day. I am extremely glad at the fact that our school committee members as well as teachers are leaving no stone unturned in working towards this direction. On this important occasion, we get a chance to publically celebrate this success achieved through the sheer hard work and perseverance of both our students as well as teachers.

Our students have not only excelled in academics but are also very good at the extra-curricular activities like sports, drama, artworks, organizing school events and many other things. They have not only made us proud, but brought accolades to our school and have given it a nation-wide recognition, thus adding extra feather to its cap. Students like you are responsible for the continuous growth and development of our school in combined efforts with the extremely proficient council members as well as our teachers.

Our school has constantly received attention from media, and has well-hosted the visits of the renowned personalities from the well-known institutions, national as well as overseas. Most of the visitors have even returned to pay multiple visits to our school for closely observing our students and supporting the faculty members. Luckily, feedback received from the visiting faculties has always been positive. This certainly wouldn’t have been possible without our committed staff members and capable students of this school.

I express my heartiest gratitude to the principal, teachers and parents for their support and collective efforts towards the development of these young talents, grooming them to achieve something substantial in life and above all, raising them with a benign attitude. Whatever our students have achieved so far would never have been possible without your constant endeavor.

I am extremely pleased to announce that the contribution of each and everyone present here has borne fruit. So I thank you all for having come together and adding more grace to this ceremony.

At last, I am going to recite a few lines.

“Succeeding in life is as simple as being a good student. All you have to do is pay attention, work hard and give it a best shot.”

Thank you very much!

Welcome Speech for Sports Award Ceremony

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen, our media partners, sponsors, respected officials and our very talented athletes! I heartily welcome you all to the sports award ceremony of this institution.

It gives me immense pleasure to host this ceremony that has been observed to commemorate the achievements of our teams, officials and athletes. This event truly showcases the commitment that all the members have shown towards the sports competition held last year in December 2016. The preceding year was indeed a very busy year for all of us as we had worked really hard to get through this competition. Our young athletes participated in all the four major games, namely table tennis, karate, cycling and indoor football and emerged with flying colours. You people have made us extremely proud.

Today, we are here to announce the lucky winners of the 12 main awards and also for applauding the victory of our commendable award recipients. A huge congratulations to all the finalists, you have definitely set a very admiring benchmark for other sports persons of this institution to imitate. We hope that you will continue to achieve brilliance in your respective sports career and in other spheres too.

Babe Ruth has rightly said, “The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime.” Our football team has proved that a game can only be victorious when the players are well-coordinated and are imbued with a true team spirit. Due to such great efforts in league, the team has brought home second prize in the event organized in Pune at the national level and made our institution extremely proud.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of our esteemed board members, National Sports Association, city’s sports club and specially the National Olympic Council team members for making this day special for all those who have the nerve to achieve something in their lives.

I would also like to express my gratitude towards the organizing committee members who have fulfilled their duties quite well; did not fail to justify their roles and took all the loads of work with a smile. This event would have not been possible without you. I also want to thank all the athletes, volunteers, family and friends for making this sports award ceremony happen at such a grand level.

In the end, I would like to address those participants who even though have not won any of the awards but still put up a great show in the competition. Also, I would like to add by saying that it’s never too late to start over and try again. I have a short line for you delivered by Vince Lombardi.

“It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up.”

Now I want to request our chief guest to come on stage to say a few inspiring words.

Welcome Speech for High School Award Ceremony

Good evening to one & all present in the auditorium,

Hon’ble Chief Guest, Respected Directors, Principal Madam, Committee Members, Dear Parents, Teachers & Students.

This is SS, your host for the evening and today I, on the behalf of PQR School, heartily welcome all of you present. It is a matter of great honour and pleasure to appreciate and reward the hard work as well as performance of the students of tenth standard in their board exams.

Well…Education is much more than what happens within the four walls of the classroom and the school is very fortunate to have such teachers, trainers and instructors who recognise the same. In fact, if the building and teachers are the two pillars of any school, then all you students certainly are the third pillar.

PQR School believes in encouraging the students, for it believes that when they are motivated they tend to work harder in future and certainly their performances get better. This is why, the school holds High school award ceremony every year for rewarding the students who made the school proud. We also have with us today the scholars who have not only made the school but the city proud by their outstanding performances. You all would be amazed to know that the school has ranked number-1 this year beating all the other schools behind in the high school results.

So, today the school will honour the students with different slabs of scholarships based on the grounds of the percentages achieved by each of them and will also motivate all the students who worked very hard but couldn’t hit their targets. I am privileged today to welcome everyone to this ceremony of appreciating the talent of worthy students.

So, first of all with a huge round of applause, let us welcome our Guest of Honour; our Chief Guest for the evening Mr.Bhushan, who is the District Magistrate (DM) of our region. He is the person who is very much in the news & discussions nowadays. We all know about the landmark changes brought about by him in the society ever since he held the chair. He is the person who has brought a wave of development, safety, security, literacy in whole of the district.

Now, may I please welcome Respected Director Sir and Principal Ma’am to this prestigious Award Ceremony.

I would now like to heartily invite all the teachers, instructors, trainers and all the staff members without whom this achievement could not be attained, who put in all their efforts in bringing the best out of the children.

Last but not the least, I would like to extend my gratitude towards the parents who have worked equally hard as the students did in their studies, homework, revision part and remained to be a continuous support system, throughout the journey.

Welcome Speech for Student of the Year Award Ceremony

Good evening to one and all.

Hon’ble Directors, Principal Madam, Most Respected Chief Guest, Committee Members, Dear Guardians, Teachers, Students, ladies & gentlemen,

On the behalf of ———– School, this is ———— as your host for this evening and I extend a very warm and hearty welcome to all of you present here. It is my pleasure to share and celebrate the achievements & talents of the outstanding performances showcased by the students of —— School.

So, here I extend my warm welcome to you all to the 7 th “Student of The Year” ceremony of ———- school.

Children are our future! And to brighten each one of our futures we need to bring up the hidden talents of these children. Taking this very thought further, the school has come up with an idea of appreciating the students who have excelled not only in their academics but have their passion in  photography, singing, writing, sports, arts or any other fields. The school believes in not just looking for academic qualifications but also for personal qualities like leadership & teamwork, determination & flexibility, confidence & self-belief, respect & consideration etc. in order to bring about the qualities of a responsible citizen in them.

All the candidates who have reached the final stage must have gone through the tough previous rounds of selection; I congratulate all of them for reaching this level and wish them good luck for the results of the award ceremony, soon to be declared. Regardless of their interests, all the candidates have something extraordinary in them which will make them the role models for the younger generation.

The duty which I am bestowed today is to welcome everyone to this grand celebration for appreciating & awarding the students.

I am glad to respectfully & cordially welcome the Chief Guest of the evening, who does not need any formal introduction as almost all of us gathered here are aware of the deeds done by him for the development and improvement in the city’s infrastructure and environment. He is none other than, Mr.  ————- The District Magistrate of the city.

I would now like to cordially welcome the Directors, Principal Madam, Committee members of the school to the Award ceremony.

I heartily extend my gratitude towards the parents and the teachers who have put in a lot of efforts in grooming and developing the personalities of the young talents present with us this evening as our finalists.

Last but not at all the least, I would like to welcome all the judges who have assessed, analyzed each candidate and could make the valuable decision of selecting the “Student of the Year” of ——– School.

Orioles opening day festivities to include Cal Ripken Jr., Key Bridge tribute

T he Orioles announced a full slate of pregame festivities for Thursday’s 3:05 p.m. opening day game against the Los Angeles Angels, including a pregame ceremony hosted by broadcaster Kevin Brown and franchise icon Cal Ripken Jr. catching the ceremonial first pitch from the daughter of a Baltimore City postal worker.

The club also plans to hold a moment of silence to honor the victims of Tuesday’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse and recognize the first responders who reported to the scene. The Orioles will also lower an American flag from the batter’s eye in center field during the national anthem, which will be performed by the Morgan State University Choir. The flag is a replica of the one flown over Fort McHenry when Francis Scott Key first wrote the Star-Spangled Banner.

Brown, the play-by-play announcer for the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network’s Orioles broadcasts, will begin the ceremonies at 2:30 p.m., about 30 minutes before the game is scheduled to begin. Harlem Park Elementary School fourth-grader Aubree Singletary will throw out the first pitch in a nod to new owner David Rubenstein, whose father worked for the post office. Ripken’s place behind the plate will serve as a recognition of the Hall of Famer rejoining the organization as a minority owner.

The sale to Rubenstein, which was approved in a unanimous vote by MLB’s 30 owners Wednesday, will be recognized with a news conference at 11 a.m. in the B&O Warehouse at Camden Yards. Rubenstein will be joined by Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, a Democrat, on stage before “ushering in a new chapter of Orioles baseball” by yelling, “Play ball” before the game.

The Orioles will also use the pregame ceremonies as an opportunity to recognize the Mo Gaba Fan of the Year, a third-grader at Timonium Elementary School named Carter who met Rubenstein in a chance encounter at the Orioles’ team store March 4. They will also honor Sara Artes, volunteer Executive Director of Corner Team, as a Birdland Community Hero for her work helping local children and their families through fitness and leadership development. The Orioles Charitable Foundation will make a $5,000 donation to her organization.

As for the fans, all those in attendance will receive an Orioles rally towel. Parking lots will open at 11 a.m. and gates to the ballpark will follow at noon. The full opening day ceremony will be broadcast by MASN with fans not attending the game encouraged to tune in starting at 2:20 p.m.

The forecast for Thursday projects rainfall throughout the morning and early afternoon with temperatures sitting in the mid-50s. Should the game be postponed, the Orioles have a scheduled day off Friday for it to be made up.

A Grip on Sports: Forget everything else because today, Opening Day, is the annual celebration of what’s new and what’s possible

A GRIP ON SPORTS • Forget all the other stuff. Time begins today. It’s Opening Day and the capital letters are on purpose. Time to exhale. Time to smile.

• For years we had a baseball tradition. Hot dogs at the park? Well, sure, who doesn’t? Catch with one of our sons? Yes, but no, that’s not it. The tradition we’re referring to is more cerebral than that, though we’ve been knocked in the noggin playing catch before.

We read Thomas Boswell’s collection of baseball essays, “Why Time Begins on Opening Day” as the season begins.

opening ceremony speech for sports day

We don’t do it anymore. Not as often anyway. Our loss.

Heck, back in the day, when Opening Day was intertwined with the NCAA championship game – it happened a few times over the years until Opening Day moved to March and basketball leaked deeper into April – we would take the day off work, grab the sandwich-thin book and head to a watering hole/food emporium, grab a table and watch games throughout the day. All the while imbibing on adult beverages and reading Boswell’s poetic waxings on the game we love. In the early evening, friends would arrive and our focus would shift to the basketball game. When the night was done, we would wander outside, where the most-perfect wife God ever created would be waiting to drive me home.

Days we will never forget. Which is the point of Opening Day, right?

Baseball is a soulful game. One that unfolds at a meandering pace. Over days, weeks, months. And it all starts with one afternoon or, in the M’s case on this March 28th, evening of celebration. Bunting, the paper type. Fireworks, during and after. Pomp. Circumstance. Corn-fed hokum, sure, but comforting hokum.

Your team is destined for another disappointing finish? Big deal. That’s for tomorrow. Next month. August. Today, right now, this minute, we gotta chance. And that’s all anyone can ask for, right?

• There is very little we’ve written over the years that have hit a chord as much as yesterday’s column. Our ode to a fallen basketball hoop a few years ago. Thoughts on the passing of our dog Yogi – and yes, we still miss him. A few sports subjects that have faded into irrelevance. We’ve watched the flood rise before, sometimes out of the blue, sometimes totally expected.

Yesterday’s column on Pat Chun leaving Washington State to become UW’s latest athletic director was a little of both.

We knew Cougar fans were angry. We knew the feelings about the former AD in Bohler were ambivalent, at best. We knew there was an undercurrent of pent-up fury for what’s happened in the past couple years. We just didn’t expect it all to coalesce around this one piece of news.

It did. It has. It will. It is just another example of how our love of sports colors our life. Good, bad, happy or sad. They all show up. And hit hard.

• Speaking of that, who will the Cougars hire to replace Kyle Smith, their former basketball coach who was introduced to the Stanford faithful yesterday?

opening ceremony speech for sports day

We heard through the player grapevine last night a name we thought would be on the periphery. Montana State’s Matt Logie. For those who don’t not know, Logie is the grandson of legendary Mercer Island High coach Ed Pepples. He’s also a former uber-successful coach at Whitworth at the Division III level, Pt. Loma in Division II and, this season, somehow willed Montana State to the NCAA Division I tourney after replacing Danny Sprinkle in Bozeman.

Yes, the same Danny Sprinkle who was introduced Wednesday as Washington’s latest coach following his one-year stay at Utah State.

Much has been made of Sprinkle’s rebuild in Logan, as the entire roster scattered before he arrived. Well, Logie had a few players to work with at MSU but Sprinkle took the best. Others decided to find new homes. After a slow start, the Bobcats came on, won the Big Sky tournament and earned a First-Four spot.

They lost to Grambling in overtime, which put a quick end to Cinderella’s night, but Logie’s abilities were showcased nationally.

He knows the region. He knows the game. And, in an homage to the former WSU coach, we’ll call him a Nerdball guy too. Not sure if that’s going to be enough to help him make another jump. What we are sure of is Washington State is going to act quickly. It has to. If it’s Logie or someone else, expect an announcement in the next couple days.
