In this digital era, face recognition system plays a vital role in almost every sector. Face recognition is one of the most implemented biometrics across various different fields. Classroom attendance check is a contributing factor to student participation and the final success in the courses. Every institute follows their own way for taking attendance.Some are taking attendance manually using papers or a register file or different biometric techniques. Taking attendance by calling out names or passing around an attendance sheet is time-consuming, and the latter is open to easy fraud.In this paper, the comparative analysis of various existing approaches on attendance management system based on facial recognition that are used to monitor attendance in various institutions using Fingerprint,GPS,RFID etc.is discussed with their limitations.

Out of the most common uses for image processing is face identification, which is important in the technological field. Recognizing faces is a hot issue for verification, especially in student attendance competitions. A face recognition attendance system uses high-definition surveillance and other computer technologies to identify students using face biostatistics. The developing system aims to digitize the outdated method of calling names and maintaining pen-and-paper attendance records. The existing procedures for recording attendance are cumbersome and time-consuming. Manual recording allows for easy manipulation of maintenance records. Traditional attendance systems and current biometric technologies are subject to proxies. As a result, this study is proposed to address all of these issues.

Students attendance in the classroom is very important task and if taken manually wastes a lot of time. There are many automatic methods available for this purpose i.e. biometric attendance. All these methods also waste time because students have to make a queue to touch their thumb on the scanning device. This work describes the efficient algorithm that automatically marks the attendance without human intervention. This attendance is recorded by using a camera attached in front of classroom that is continuously capturing images of students, detect the faces in images and compare the detected faces with the database and mark the attendance. The paper review the related work in the field of attendance system then describes the system architecture, software algorithm and results.

Some of these applications are human-computer interaction, video monitor system, automatic attendance system, door control systems, and network security. This paper attempts to describe Attendance system which integrates with technology of face recognition using Personal Component Analysis (PCA) algorithm. Face recognition is one the most productive and efficient real-time image processing application and has a very important role in the IT sector. Face recognition is used in many areas of the technical field, especially for the authentication of faces for attendance. Attendance using face recognition is a system that recognizes students by using facial features based on real-time face capturing and other technologies. The aim of this system is to digitize the traditional system of taking attendance which requires calling the names of each student and maintaining logs and registers. Current methods for taking attendance are time-consuming, difficult to maintain and can be easily manipulated by marking proxies, adding or removing attendance from the register, etc. Attendance systems such as fingerprint and RFID systems can also be manipulated by taking thumbprints and marking fake attendance using others' RFID chips or cards. This system is proposed to tackle all these problems and to create a safe and fast attendance system. In this system, the attendance of the students will be marked using the Face Detection and Face Recognition method. First, all the facial data of all the students are stored in a dataset and then at the time of marking attendance, the webcam will scan the realtime footage of the webcam for the face of students and then detect the face, after detecting face it will recognize the student based on the given data. After face recognition, it will mark the attendance of the student in the attendance sheet. This system is created using Haar-Cascade face detection algorithm and KNN algorithm and multiple faces can be recognized simultaneously for attendance.

Instead of that specialize in teaching, teachers are caught with finishing a few formal duties, like taking attendance, keeping the attendance document of every scholar, etc. Manual attendance marking unnecessarily consumes school room time, while clever attendance via face reputation strategies enables in saving the school room time of the lecturer. Attendance marking via face reputation may be implied with inside the school room through shooting the photograph of the scholars with inside the school room thru the digital digicam installed.

Many researchers have make efforts on creating several attendance systems to keep track of student attendance in school which is also part of academic curriculum that will have great impact in student academic performance. There have been different technologies such as RFID, face recognition, biometric, web-based attendance system etc. To capture attendance in a way that’s better than the traditional method of pen and paper or roll call system. Making this attendance record available on blockchain network and applying artificial intelligence algorithm for prediction or classification in correlation with the data captured from student attendance purpose.

Several articles, papers and journals has been reviewed from different research plethora of research publishers’ database through internet such as Google scholar, IEEExplore, Springerslink etc. This will make it easy for comparing several attendance systems with respect to internet of things, blockchain and artificial intelligence to address the research gap in this aspect.
