The Best Online Comic Store: 10 Sites to Buy Comics Online

best comic book websites to buy

If you buy something using our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for your support!

If you're a comic book fan like me, you know how frustratingly difficult it can be to find the latest issue of your favorite ongoing series, especially if you don't live near a local comic book store.

Thankfully, the comic book industry has adapted to modern consumer needs. There are now hundreds of online comic book stores where you can buy your comic book issues.

We're talking both digital and physical, ranging from single comic book issues to trade paperbacks to graphic novels and even mangas.

But which of these many options is best? Here are my picks for the best sites to buy comic books online.

10. Barnes & Noble

best comic book websites to buy

Barnes & Noble is one of the biggest booksellers—both online and brick-and-mortar—in America. You can find pretty much any type of book on their site, including comic books.

They have a variety of formats and genres, including superhero comics, mangas, graphic novels, and even romance comics. However, you may have trouble finding super niche items.

As you'd expect from B&N, their store is well-organized. You can sort products by genre, subject, prices, publishers, etc. Plus, they maintain a solid list of bestseller comics in case you don't know what to read next.

9. InStockTrades

best comic book websites to buy

InStockTrades offers a variety of old comics and new releases at an affordable price. At this online store, you can find deals of up to 50% off on a wide range of comic books, graphic novels, and mangas.

You can browse their library by publishers, genres, writers, and artists, which is especially useful for long-time comic book fans.

8. Discount Comic Book Service

best comic book websites to buy

As its name suggests, the Discount Comic Book Service is an online comic store where you can find a variety of comic books at discounted prices. The catch? It's mostly pre-orders.

Most of their offerings are between 30% to 50% off, which makes them one of the cheapest online comic stores.

However, the downside is that you won't be able to get new releases as easily as you can in other stores. After all, their business model is all about pre-ordering months in advance.

If you shop regularly here, you can set up regular shipments through their subscription program, which can deliver everything to you on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis.

7. My Comic Shop

best comic book websites to buy

My Comic Shop is an interesting online store because it's not just a great place to buy comics—it's a great place to sell and trade your own comic books with other like-minded comic fans.

In and of itself, My Comic Shop has a fantastic selection and a solid catalog of back issues that are difficult to find elsewhere. But on top of that, it's their auction house that makes this retailer stand out.

Just head to the My Comic Shop Auctions page to find all kinds of comics, prints, and other related goods being sold by other customers, from vintage comics to special editions.

The site has a useful feature that notifies you when the comics in your wishlist become available in an auction.

And one more thing: you can pre-order upcoming comic books at a discounted rate!

6. Forbidden Planet

best comic book websites to buy

Forbidden Planet is the largest retailer of comic books in the United Kingdom. They have an extensive collection of comics, graphic novels, mangas, books, collectibles, video games, and toys.

Their prices are affordable and they have a subscription model that offers even more discounts, so if you're in the UK and you buy regularly, this may be an economical option for you.

Forbidden Planet also provides international shipping to countries including the United States, Canada, and Australia. The price may not always make sense, but it's certainly worth checking out!

5. Mile High Comics

best comic book websites to buy

Don't be fooled by the old-fashioned appearance of this one. Mile High Comics is one of the biggest online comic book stores in the world, and you definitely don't want to miss it.

With a massive collection of over 10 million comics and 300,000 paperbacks, you're likely to find what you're looking for here.

And while you can find all sorts of new releases at Mile High Comics, their strong suit rests in their extensive collection of back issues and vintage paperbacks.

Seriously, it doesn't matter what comic book you're looking for. Mile High Comics almost surely has it at an affordable price.

And if they don't? You can sign up to receive email notifications when stuff you're interested in pops back in stock. It's one of the best places to buy comics online, period.

4. ComiXology

best comic book websites to buy

ComiXology is an Amazon-owned online platform for buying digital comic books, graphic novels, and manga. They have one of the largest comic book databases in the world, with more than 750,000 products—from both mainstream and independent publishers.

ComiXology started as a comic book site back in 2007, then was acquired by Amazon in 2014. They launched the ComiXology Unlimited subscription service in 2016, which went strong until 2022, when ComiXology was folded into the Amazon.com website.

As of this writing, the ComiXology Unlimited subscription service is still available for $5.99 per month, granting access to over 45,000 digital comics, graphic novels, and mangas. ( Try the 30-day free trial! )

Don't care about that? You can still buy digital comics à la carte—but only digital comics.

Why is ComiXology so great? Because their sales and promotions are unbeatable, with some comics going as low as $0.99 per copy. If you want digital comics on the cheap, this is where to shop!

3. Things From Another World

best comic book websites to buy

Things From Another World is the third-largest comic book retailer in the United States and a great place to find new comic releases as well as comic-related merchandise and memorabilia.

Their prices are affordable, with lots of deals and discounts that are announced through their mailing list.

They also offer a subscription model so you can automatically purchase new releases of your favorite comics and have them delivered right to you for your convenience.

2. Midtown Comics

best comic book websites to buy

Midtown Comics is one of the most popular comic stores in the United States for their sizable catalog and excellent service.

They also have one of the best websites of any online comic store, which is carefully organized into clear sections and quick to browse, making it easy to find what you're after.

The Midtown Comics website also lets you find deals easily and check the availability of new comic releases and back issues.

If you're looking for a reliable online comic book store with the latest releases, amazing deals, and a large collection of memorabilia, then you absolutely need to check out Midtown Comics.

1. NewKadia

best comic book websites to buy

NewKadia is the self-proclaimed "Amazon for comic books," which is an extremely ambitious claim given that the aforementioned ComiXology is literally owned by Amazon!

But once you experience NewKadia's low prices, fast delivery, and well-packaged boxes, you'll be a believer. On top of providing great customer service, NewKadia offers free shipping with a subscription known as "NewKadia Prime." (Sound familiar?)

Interestingly, NewKadia uses a unique pricing structure: comic prices aren't just based on their condition, but also on how many copies they have in stock. The more copies, the lower the price.

NewKadia is a one-of-a-kind online comic store and our favorite place to buy comics online. They've been in business for more than 23 years and have a sprawling catalog of more than 750,000 comics.

I love a good comic book store. To many, this means their local comic book store. But whether because of location, or a lack of connection with your local stores, sometimes the local brick and mortar comic shop isn’t the best option for everyone. When that’s the case, we comic lovers thankfully have a few great online comic book store options.

best comic book websites to buy

That means you never again have to freak out about not being near a local shop you like. Below are some of the best, most highly recommended, online comic book stores.

Beyond Amazon

Note: I have not listed Amazon, because most people know you can almost anything from there, and I wanted to present some other options. A lot of these online comic book stores have physical locations as well, so in some way, you are helping out a local comic book shop. Below are a few of the best online comic book stores that, after some research, have been most highly recommended to me.

Top Recommended Online Comic Book Stores

Mile high comics.

Mile High Comics is one of the first names you’ll see come up when searching for an online comic book store, and with good reason. According to their site, they have over 10 million comics, and over 300,000 trade paperbacks/hardbacks. The website is definitely not cutting edge (I got some solid ’90s nostalgia), but that doesn’t mean they don’t have an excellent selection. Oh, and if you’re ever in Denver, you could stop by one of their three physical locations.

NewKadia.com

NewKadia is a strictly online comic book store, meaning there is no physical NewKadia store for you to visit. But for an online-only comic book store, they still have a solid stock of comics. One thing I noticed immediately is the pricing on the website, which is based on the condition of the comic. This means the pricing depends greatly on what condition you’re willing to accept (with the worst listed condition being Good).

Things from Another World

Things from Another World , or TFAW, has several physical locations (Milwaukie, Portland, Beaverton, Oregon, Los Angeles) along with their website. The first thing I noticed on their site was that other merchandise such as toys, statues, and POPs were noticeably advertised. Most online comic book stores offer these items, but not all market them as noticeably as TFAW. I have to mention, out of all the sites, I personally enjoyed the design of TFAW the most.

Midtown Comics

Midtown Comics  is another site that has a solid range of comics and related merchandise to select from. The website definitely puts new and upcoming releases front and center but also makes it clear that back runs are available. The ability to find older issues is always a bonus when shopping for comics. For me, the ability to see the older or back issue option quickly on their website is a definite bonus.

Discount Comic Book Service

Discount Comic Book Service is set up to allow customers to order bundles, or to preorder and/or subscribe in advance. The bonus to this site, as is hinted at by its name, is the discounted price for these comics. So, if you’re looking for a subscription-based site, this might be a good option.

Ever Growing

Those are the top online resources, beyond Amazon or Comixology, that I have found for buying comics online. However, there are more out there.

I hope this is useful as a starting point for those who are curious about buying comics online, and I hope it makes it clear that there are so many options out there to make sure you can always get your pull list.

If you are an avid online comic shopper, did I mention any favorites? Are there any other stores you’d love fellow readers to know about?

6 Best Places To Buy Comics Online

This page contains affiliate links for eCommerce websites. How to Love Comics may recieve a small commission on purchases you make. Find out more in our affiliate disclaimer .

While the topic of where you can buy comics has been covered on the website before, I was compelled to dig a little deeper into the specifics when I received this question in my inbox from Bree recently:

I’m just starting to get into comics – a friend gave me some of her collection a little while back. I don’t really live close by to a store and am thinking of ordering comics online. I don’t want to read digital, but am worried that ordering print comics may result in damage. Is that just going to have to be a part of the risk or do you have some services/companies that have a good record that you could recommend?

It’s a very valid question. Just like Bree, not everyone has a comic book store close by and digital doesn’t have the same appeal as holding a comic in your hands. But where are some of the best places to buy comics online?

I’ve compiled six online stores which are great places to buy comics from. I’ve based the list on three required criteria which meets the needs of the question asked, but also most readers looking also to buy online.

The criteria is as follows:

  • Fair pricing
  • Has good mailing practices

I know that the above are objective, but I’ll try and justify my choices where possible.

Mile High Comics

Don’t be fooled by the dated website, Mile High Comics are a big player when it comes to buying comics online. They have a whopping 8,000,000 comics, with 100,000 listed on their site at any given time. (That’s a lot of comics!) As a result, they generally what you are looking for, especially when it comes to back issues. They do sell new releases too, but it’s not the major focus.

In regards to pricing, Mile High Comics can be a bit of a mixed-bag. Sometimes they will be below the average price for an comics, but other times they can be well above. Often this will depend on supply and demand, but also the grade, with comics in better condition going for a higher price. Although, they do like to offset prices with regular sales that are announced on their mailing list.

When I was doing my research I couldn’t find anything in regards to comics being damaged in the mail. Anecdotal evidence suggests that they pack the comics well for shipping, but it can be a bit slow.

Out of all the stores listed, Newkadia is the only online-only option, with all of the other options having physical entities too. Even without a physical store, they still offer a massive 750,000 comics, making them a great option for those hunting for back issues.

They have an interesting price structure, which is based off the condition of the comic, but then slowly discounted the longer it has been listed. On top of that they have regular discounts based off themes to drive prices down further. As a result, you can nab some absolute bargains.

In regards to shipping, Newkadia promise that comics will ship in a sturdy box, bagged and board and with free insurance.

Overall, Newkadia has very positive reviews online.

Things From Another World

If you’re looking for brand new comics, Things From Another World is a good place to start. They offer a wide range of new stock including comics, graphic novels and toys. Regular readers can even set up a subscription to make buying easier and you can even pre-order upcoming releases, making the purchase cheaper the further out you make the order.

Looking through the site it appears that most items are listed 10% below cover price. They also have additional discounts, which can be accessed through their mailing list.

As you’ll see in these photos , the comics are shipped securely in sturdy packaging, as well as being bagged and board.

Midtown Comics

Midtown Comics is similar to Things From Another World, stocking comics, graphic novels and toys. They do have one point of difference in that they also stock a good selection of older comics too. Although, their major focus is on newer releases.

Looking through the store, most items are about 15% lower than cover price. They also have regular sales based on different subjects.

Midtown Comics bags and boards all comics and their shipping is reliable. Based on my searches online I couldn’t find any issues in regards to damages.

My Comic Shop

My Comic Shop is similar to Mile High Comics and Newkadia in that it offers a massive range of back issue and new comics. They’re one major point of difference is that they have an auction house, which is perfect for tracking down the more collectable comics.

Prices seem to be quite reasonable, although I have noticed that the high demand comics can be listed a little higher than on other sites.

Based on the description on their website, My Comic Shop shipping methods appear to be rather sturdy. They protect your comics in custom-shaped cardboard padding, which is then wrapped in thick plastic and then finally mailed in a damage-resistant carton.

Overall, My Comic Shop has very positive reviews .

Discount Comic Book Service

Like the name suggests,  Discount Comic Book Service offers comics at a heavily discounted price. The downside to this is if you want to buy recent releases then you won’t find them here as their business model is all about pre-ordering months in advance and subscriptions. If you do subscribe, you have the option of receiving your comics on weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis.

As I have already mentioned, DCBS offers heavily discounted comics that range from 30% to 50% off. That makes them the cheapest option available on upcoming comics.

DCBS ship their comics in a secure manner and I could not find any evidence of it being their fault for damages.

The Verdict

There is no clear winner when it comes to buying comics online. The services I have listed are a good starting point.

Do your research and see what the comics you are seeking are priced at and see which is the best option for you. Keep in mind that they all offer different shipping prices and it’s worth investigating these before you make your purchase. (I didn’t take shipping price into consideration because your location could can vary the cost a lot.)

Happy shopping!
