ESSENTIALS OF OPERATIONS RESEARCH
The term Operations Research (OR) describes the discipline that is focused on the application of information technology for informed decision-making. In other words, OR represents the study of optimal resource allocation. The goal of OR is to provide rational bases for decision making by seeking to understand and structure complex situations, and to utilize this understanding to predict system behavior and improve system performance

Operations research is an interdisciplinary branch of applied mathematics that uses advanced analytical methods: mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, and mathematical optimization to arrive at optimal or near-optimal solutions to complex decision-making problems. It is often concerned to determine the maximum (of profit, performance, or yield) or minimum (of loss, risk, or cost) of some real-world problems. Work in operations research and management science may be characterized as one of three categories: (i) Fundamental or foundational work takes place in three mathematical disciplines: Probability, Optimization, and Dynamical systems theory. (ii) Modeling work is concerned with the construction of models, analyzing them mathematically, implementing them on computers, solving them using software tools, and assessing their effectiveness with data. This work is instrumental, and driven mainly by statistics and econometrics. (iii) Application work in O.R., like other engineering and economics disciplines, uses models to make a practical impact on real-world problems.

Operations Research tools are not from any one discipline. Operations Research takes tools from different discipline such as mathematics, statistics, economics, psychology, engineering etc. and combines these tools to make a new set of knowledge for decision making. Today, O.R. became a professional discipline which deals with the application of scientific methods for making decision, and especially to the allocation of scarce resources. The main purpose of O.R. is to provide a rational basis for decisions making in the absence of complete information, because the systems composed of human, machine, and procedures may do not have complete information. The OR starts when mathematical and quantitative techniques are used to substantiate the decision being taken. The main activity of a manager is the decision making. Operations Research can also be treated as science in the sense it describing, understanding and predicting the systems behavior, especially man-machine system. Thus O.R. specialists are involved in three classical aspect of science, they are as follows: a.

Organizational systems, as well as specific integration of social and technical systems are extremely important for the development of human society. The most part, the problems of managing these systems are reduced to operations research - a generic term for activities that define the processes involved in the functions of organizational systems, and hence the term operations research. Field of study operations research as a scientific discipline, the organizational processes and activities that are being carried out and an important determinant of the intention to find the best decisions in managing the operations undertaken to achieve the set goals of the system. The generality of operations research is reflected in the fact that apply to all types of organizational systems - commercial, industrial, agricultural, military, medical, educational, government, and the like. Users of operations research decision makers - managers, whose task is to efficiently and effectively manage organizational systems. In this paper we consider operational research and conceptual foundations that enable its effective use in solving the problem of organizational systems.

Operations research(OR), also called decision optimization science, is the one that provides mathematical models meant to lead to finding the optimal variant in an economic, military, social, political, etc. type of activity. These are methods with a major potential, highlighted since the emergence of the models used in World War II actions and later in various other fields, especially in western countries. This paper aims to highlight the benefits of using OR techniques over time and especially to highlight its applicability. In this paper we summarize the presentation of the evolution and contributions of Operational Research in various fields until the ‘60s, a future paper will deal with the time frame 1960-2020.
