Share your screen & invite your audience

Launch your group poll like it's a slide presentation. Show your team, audience, or classroom your screen on a projection or through your video call "screen share" option. Your group joins in using their phones or computers with a QR code, and can easily send in answers to your poll questions — no apps or downloads required 👌

Get instant feedback & incredible engagement

It's more than just live polls — build wordclouds, ask questions, play icebreakers, brainstorm, answer prompts, send emoji and sound reactions... and so much more. Feel the excitement and responsiveness as your audience uses this simple tool that's designed to make your content engrossing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions? We've got some answers.

Go to your account, select a deck, and open it! You'll see a big pink "Launch an event" button on the top right corner. When you click this, it will start a live, full-screen event (just like a powerpoint or google slides presentation). Display this live event page to your group (eg. "share your screen" on Zoom), and have them join in! Then advance through the slides by clicking the next arrow or pressing the arrow keys.

On the first slide of your launched event, you'll see an auto-generated QR code and a URL link. Tell your players to get their smartphone and open their camera. They just need to hold their camera up to the QR code, and they'll be taken to a join page. If they don't have a phone or are having trouble with the QR code, they can use the link displayed on that page, which goes to the same page. On this page, they'll be able to select an avatar, enter their name, and click "Join Event"! You'll see each person appear on your main screen, as they join. From there they can send in responses, photos, and fun sound reactions.

With a Pro account you can have up to 200 players join, and with a Starter account you can have up to 50 players. Our forever-free account lets small groups of up to 10 people play your event, no charge :)

Yes! Our forever free account is fully-featured. We believe in building strong connections and community, and for that reason SlidesWith will always be no-cost for smaller groups — you can create a deck and play with up to 10 people for free. The only time payment is required is if you want to run events with larger groups.

No, this is a slide deck presentation tool that you can use in any video call or in person. We recommend using SlidesWith wherever you can show your screen to your audience. So whether that's on a video call platform like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, (or any other video conferencing software), or live at an in-person or hybrid conference or meeting, as long as you can share your screen, you can use SlidesWith. Think of it like using a powerpoint presentation, but with superpowers ;)

A Deep Dive Into Live Voting and Polls: 4 Challenges and 9 Tips

News - 9 min read.

live voting presentation

Live voting and polls are essential tools for every presenter, event, conference, congress or business community organiser who is constantly looking for new ways to bring people together, foster engagement and create memorable experiences. A recent study shows that among other factors interactivity is important in successfully elevating engagement in any context.

Before diving into the reasons why live voting sessions and polls can be essential tools in creating memorable experiences, we have some exciting news to share!

At Networkapp, we noticed a demand for a live voting feature incorporated in our app and that’s what we did ! Most of our clients were requesting a feature which would allow them to set up their questions using our app, effortlessly.

Thus, after a thorough analysis of our app users’ feedback regarding the most desired attributes of a live voting tool, we spent the last year developing our own live-voting feature. Our main goal is to stimulate interactivity, foster smooth discussions, and create educational and entertaining moments in any presentation, event, conference, association or business community.

Our live-voting feature is now ready to be used by speakers and users of Networkapp.

Find out more about our live voting features.

With our new live-voting feature you can:

  • Create unlimited multiple-choice questions;
  • Create multiple open-ended questions;
  • Moderate the viewing of the results of voting sessions on the presentation screen;
  • Have multiple live voting sessions running at the same time;
  • Create different types of question set-ups, effortlessly;
  • Add multiple-choice or open-ended questions during voting sessions; and
  • Have flexible viewings of the results page ( e.g. mobile screens, tablet, and mobiles).

But why live voting sessions and polls are important for presentations, events, conferences and even within communities?

In this article, we take a deep dive into the 4 challenges that presenters and event/conference/community organisers and managers are facing when using polls and live-voting sessions.

We also mapped out 9 tips on how to overcome the challenges related to the use of (real time) polls or live-voting sessions.

1. Attention Span

Human brains are designed to be distracted .

However, attention is a muscle that can and must be exercised to direct our focus abilities, remove distractions and better manage our emotions.  Commitment practices like exercise, meditation and taking purposeful breaks can help us develop our attentive capacity .

Although our attention span is getting shorter through the years , studies show that our attention tends to peak during the first 5 to 10 minutes of a presentation and wane after 10 to 15 minutes . It’s not a coincidence that the duration of most TED talks are usually less than 18 minutes .

In line with the concept of short human attention span, Daniel J. Leviting argues in the book The Organized Mind, that the two most important principles used by the attention filter of our brains are change and importance.

Change acts as a protective shield for any external stimulus (e.g. you are attending a presentation and suddenly the screen goes blurry, your brain notices the change immediately  and signals your attention system to focus on the change).

Importance acts as a filter that ignores unnecessary information.

Therefore by combining the 15-minute rule with interactive live voting sessions and thus changing  the pace of a presentation, you can reignite your audience’s attention. Moreover, fostering participation via engaging live polls  can potentially increase the perception of importance around topic.

Networkapp Tip:

  • Divide your presentation into 15-minute blocks. After each block, ask your audience a question. By doing this, your audience will be able to better digest the information you want to convey. Thus, pause for few minutes and help your audience refocus on your presentation.

2. Familiarity over Ambiguity

Now, having said that the human attention span is short, one of the catalytic factors of how memorable your presentation can be is your audience’s feelings of familiarity regarding a topic or a context.

Definition of Familiarity

Zajonc, 2001, defined familiarity as the tendency of humans to find more likeable particular objects that have been previously exposed to.

Familiarity & Events

According to the Dutch Harvard professor, Eric Mazur  “[ the assimilation of knowledge] can be mastered by being able to look at questions in new contexts ”. Specifically, any audience should be able to answer questions regarding a presentation’s topic 40-70% correctly. In case the percentage of correct answers fails below 40% it means that either the difficulty level is too high or the topic is too complicated (or worst case, non-engaging).

Thus, make sure that the your event attendees have sufficient information regarding the different presentations or themes of your event. You can do that by briefing them prior to the actual event day(s). At the same time, building any presentation with your audience in mind can turn to be a successful strategy. Therefore, you can start preparing your presentation’s content and structure by asking your audience questions using in-app polls. This way, you will be able to grasp the knowledge levels of your audience around a topic and modify or simplify your presentation.

With Networkapp you can share a briefing with your audience or create polls prior to your presentation. Check out our app features here.

But why is the feeling of familiarity important?

The feelings of familiarity with any type of brand , presentation, event or community can motivate, inspire and active your participants or potential customers . Subsequently, marketers, presenters  and event organisers who are able to create familiar immersive event and presentation experiences, are more likely to foster intimacy between individuals and brands, associations and different types of communities. However, those feelings of intimacy and familiarity of an audience tend to decline over time , it is therefore important to follow up with your audience after your presentation or event.

With Networkapp, you can create long-lasting communities where you can share your content, securely! Find out more .

Networkapp Tips:

  • Ask questions via in-app polls that will help you determine your audience’s characteristics and preferences before your presentation or event. This way, you will be able to adjust your event’s agenda or presentation’s structure, accordingly.
  • Brief your audience about the content of your presentation. This way, your audience will have a basic idea of what your presentation is about, they will have more time to prepare and the engagement during your presentation might be higher.

3. Retention of Information

Having said that human memory span is short and the more familiar the message the more engaged the audience can be with your presentation or event, another factor influencing how memorable the audience’s experience is the retention of information .

The study of the retention of information is one of the oldest areas of formal study in the science of learning . Retention of information can be defined as having the information stored and ready to be retrieved from our long term memory in response to standard prompts.

Before analysing the importance of information retention in an event context, it is useful to refer to the theory of the forgetting curve : Apart from our short attention span, we forget. Fast!

However, some of the memories do tend to stick to our brains.

One of the ultimate goals of event managers, or presenters is their event or presentation to be remembered!

But how can we create strong lasting memories in our audience’s brains ?

  • As the brain easily dumps any information that is not repeated in the future, the concept of information retention is critical. By seeing information again and again attendees tend to encode and store any type of information in their long term memory .
  • As information processing in the brain is happening via many different routes, it is useful to take advantage of the different types of encoding , i.e. the process of creating a new memory in the brain. Therefore, concepts presented visually, semantically and verbally can achieve dual coding . By doing so, your audience has a higher chance of remembering what you want to convey.

 Networkapp Tips:

  • Ask different sets of questions around the main idea you want your audience to take home.

Example

Supposedly your presentation’s topic is about cats being cute, you can ask:

4. Co-Creation of Experiences

Now, taking into consideration the concepts of attention span, familiarity of a topic or a subject and retention of information we are approaching the last and most complex challenge of any conference, event or presentation: co-creation of experiences.

What is Co-Creation?

A lot has been written around the concept of co-creation. In an event/conference context, we can define it as ” the collaborative effort of different stakeholders that creates value, increases involvement and ownership of a shared experience .”

Importance of Co-Creation

Co-creating an experience can foster a sense of community among event’s or conference’s participants , facilitate communication within a group and enhance the development and maintenance of lasting relationships .

The feeling of co-creating an experience during an event or presentation results in increased levels of sharing the experience with social circles. Subsequently, social media sharing can significantly increase your event’s visibility.  This statement is confirmed by a recent  study conducted by the New York Times, where they examined the motives and the personas behind sharing content in social media. In short, NYT found out that content which indicates personal involvement during the creating process is easily shareable with others.

Having your audience share their experiences with their social circles (whether digital or physical) is a complex process. However, research shows that explaining a concept to yourself or someone else is the most effective way to learn it and make it your own. Therefore, by enabling smart interactions (via live polls or votings) between your event’s participants or your presentation’s audience can trigger feelings of co-creation while the levels of understanding around a topic can considerably improve.

  • Using polls before your event, can help capture your audience’s topics of interests. You will be able to create a customised event or presentation experience ( check Familiarity over Ambiguity ) based on your attendees’ input. Thus, you can foster feelings of co-creation as most of your audience or attendees will experience your event or presentation, intimately.

Create a poll around the most popular colours among your audience prior to your event. If you find out that the most popular colour is blue, think about using this colour in the event’s brochures, presentation’s look & feel, etc.

  • Instead of having a single storyline for your presentation, you can prepare two, three or even more alternative versions based on audience’s feedback. Using the feedback of polls and live voting sessions you can adjust your storyline prior or during your presentation.

Supposedly your topic is about climate change and in the midst of your presentation you find out (via a live-voting session) that most of your audience is interested in NO2 emissions. You can:

  •  Dive deeper into the topic of NO2 emissions; and
  • Initiate Q/A questions via our live voting feature regarding NO2 emissions.
  • Use the 50/50 rule. You can simply use half the time of your presentation to convey your ideas and the other half to get your audience explain what they’ve learned either to their peers or by answering to your (preferably open-ended) questions. Research shows , that the method of learning by teaching works best when the teaching involves the retrieval of learning materials. Therefore, give your participants a chance to “teach” each other while remembering what they were taught during your presentation.

Creating memorable long-lasting experiences is not necessarily magic. Instead, by using live-voting sessions and polls you improve the engagement during your event, conference or presentation, collect and reflect on your audiences feedback and better prepare for your future endeavours.

10 Best Live Survey Tools for Hosting Polls and Q&As at Events (+ Tips)

live voting presentation

Create your own Q&A event survey, form, or poll now!

Looking for the best live survey solution offered online today? I’ve got the answers! I’m the founder of SurveyLegend and yes, it’s true: I’m going to tell you about the 10 best Q&A event-polling tools—even though that list includes our competitors.

Why would I do that? Because at SurveyLegend, we believe in fair market competition, and in the end, the decision is always up to you! So while we hope you’ll choose SurveyLegend for your live polling at events, we want you to know your options. Before we get to the list, let’s review some live survey tool basics.

What Are Live Survey Tools?

Live survey tools make presentations at events an interactive experience! Let’s face it, listening to a speaker drone on for sometimes hours can test anyone’s patience, resulting in them tuning out. With live survey tools, the monotony is broken up by allowing audience members to engage with the speaker. Not only does this benefit the audience, but it also gives the speaker a brief respite from their monologue.

Throughout the presentation, the speaker can invite audience members to answer questions (generally with predefined answers to gather fast responses). Audience members select their answers, usually right from their own smartphone, and the results are tallied up for the speaker to see and address on the spot.

5 Ways to Use Live Polling Tools to Improve Event Engagement

Nearly 50% of marketers  say that audience engagement is the biggest contributing factor to having a successful event. Live polling at events can greatly improve engagement, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

1. Choose the Right Type of Poll

Depending on the event or presentation, you can opt for one type of polling or mix things up. Some of the most popular options include:

  • Multiple choice questions
  • Rating polls
  • Trivia/quizzes

While the first three are self explanatory, you may be unfamiliar with word clouds. This option asks audience members a question, and they submit one word responses on their phone. Their words come together as artwork, moving and growing with each response. It’s a great way to discover shared (or opposing) feelings within a crowd!

2. Measure Audience Engagement

Live polling allows event managers to track impressions, i.e., the number of people interacting with the live polling tool. From this, you can see which questions and sessions interested participants the most, customizing future events accordingly for further success and engagement.

3. Collect Votes For Competitive Activities

Many events include some form of competition between groups within the audience. This helps break that awkward wall of silence that exists between people who may never have met before. With live polling, presenters can ask attendees to select the activity they would like to do this most (choosing the most popular option guarantees the most participation in the activity). You can also use the polling tool to determine the winner, asking the entire audience which group performed the activity the best.

4. Brainstorm New Ideas

It’s not unusual for event planners and company leaders to have ideas that will impact future events and/or their company. With live polling, you can quickly and easily collect the audience’s opinion, describing your idea  and asking attendees whether they like it or not. At an event level, you may have them select who they would like to hear from next time from a list of potential guests; on a company level, you could ask what they think about an optional work from home policy, and so on.

5. Collect Real-Time Feedback

Most events have a feedback form or email to fill out at the end of sessions; however, many attendees don’t bother with them, instead moving on to the next or simply out the door if the event has concluded. Instead, collect real-time feedback during the presentation, asking attendees how they’re liking the event as a whole, an individual session, etc. Attendees can rate all of this on-the-spot with just a couple taps on their phone.

6 Essentials to Look for in Live Online Survey Tools

1. user experience.

Is the live polling tool user friendly? If event attendees find it too hard to pair their smartphones, or if interacting with the app is too complicated, most will simply give up (or you’ll waste valuable time explaining how to use it).

2. Device Capabilities

What types of polling does the live Q&A tool provide? Are you okay with simply asking multiple choice questions, or do you want to be able to ask a wider variety of types of questions?

3. Number of Live Participants

How many participants can connect at once? Some live polling apps limit the number of people that can use it at one time (or charge more as the audience size increases).

4. Real-Time Data

Are responses immediately collected and tallied up, so that the speaker can address the results on the spot? Are they presented in a nice chart, that the speaker can easily display and interpret?

5. App Aesthetics

Is the polling design nice to look at? It may seem inconsequential, but audience members are much more likely to participate when the interface is visually appealing.

Often, it all comes down to price, and generally, the more features a live polling tool has, the more it’ll cost you. It’s up to you to determine where you will compromise to get the right price.

When you launch your poll, it will pop up as a notification on the meeting screen and also appear in the meeting chat window. Attendees can also create ad-hoc polls during a meeting to get quick feedback on the spot.

Create a poll and then launch it before, during, or after your meeting

In Teams, select Calendar .

Find the meeting you've scheduled for which you want to add polls and click or tap it.

“at my last town meeting, the clickers saved me. we had many motions with a 2/3 majority. with the townvote system, it was calculated instantly even with over 1,000 people. in the past, these kinds of meetings would spill into many hours.”.

— Lynne Girouard, Sturbridge, MA Town Clerk

“Ever since Meridia’s TownVOTE voting system replaced the hand and voice votes, when we livestream our business meeting, it makes it easy for councilors, staff and any members of the public to see and understand exactly how a councilor has voted and exactly what they are voting on. It adds so much clarity to the meetings, and it saves a lot of time over any voting confusion. The audience is especially pleased about the added accessibility features.”

— Hedi Mueller, Democracy Advisor, City of Wellington, New Zealand

“Just wanted you to know that everything went great! Thank you so much for your help these past few days. 32 articles and it was done in 1 hour! 😀 I never dreamed I’d be home for Monday night football, but I’m not complaining!”

— Laurie Stockley, Warren, MA Town Clerk

“Your TownVOTE system has been a game-changer for us. We used to have multiple 1.5hour-long meetings to vote on candidates, or approve change of rules. Now, we’re done in 40 minutes, including the discussion.”

— Kelly Alvarez, University of Texas, Austin

Pennsylvania primary replay: Trump, Biden clinch victory; Casey and McCormick will compete for Senate

All eyes were on Pennsylvania on Tuesday as the key swing state held pivotal elections that could send a clear message for November's race for the White House.

While former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden already locked down their respective party nominations, they both swiftly won the Republican and Democratic primaries in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, garnering even more support.

Sen. Bob Casey, D-Penn., and David McCormick, a businessman, won the Democratic and Republican Senate primaries, and they'll face off in the fall in what's expected to be a close race.

Rep. Summer Lee, D-Penn., won a tough primary battle in the state's 12th congressional district against Bhavini Patel, a member of the Edgewood Borough Council in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

But those weren't the only tight races on Tuesday. Here's a recap of the USA TODAY Network's live coverage of the latest primaries.

Prep for the polls: See who is running for president and compare where they stand on key issues in our Voter Guide

Eugene DePasquale secures Democratic bid for attorney general

Eugene DePasquale, the former state auditor general, beat a crowded field of opponents to win the Democratic primary for the open attorney general seat. He will face Republican David Sunday in what’s expected to be competitive general election race.

- Karissa Waddick

David Sunday wins GOP attorney general primary

David Sunday, a York County district attorney, beat state house member Craig Williams in the Republican primary. He’s set to face off against Democrat Eugene DePasquale in the November election.

Republican Ryan McKenzie wins primary in Pennsylvania's 7th District

Ryan McKenzie won the GOP primary to challenge Democratic Rep. Susan Wild for the Lehigh, Pennsylvania, area congressional seat in November. The seat in the state’s 7th District is a top target for Republicans in November.

-Karissa Waddick

Janelle Stelson to face GOP Rep. Scott Perry in PA’s 10th District

Democrat Janelle Stelson will challenge Republican Rep. Scott Perry for Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional seat in November. Stelson beat five Democratic competitors in the primary.

A former news anchor, Stelson is aiming to win over independents and moderate conservatives in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, district to defeat Perry in the general election. The Cook Political Report has labeled the race as leaning in Perry’s favor.

Rep. Summer Lee fights off challenger in PA’s 12th District

Democratic Rep. Summer Lee beat Bhavini Patel in the primary for the state’s 12th district. Her win comes as a potential positive sign for other progressives in Congress who are facing challenges from moderate Democrats over their opposition to additional U.S. military aid for Israel.

Lee’s advocacy for a ceasefire in Gaza became a central theme of the campaign. Her opponent argued that Lee’s criticism of Israel hurt Biden’s reelection efforts. But those arguments ultimately did not win over voters.

Moderate Republican Brian Fitzpatrick fends off challenger in GOP race for 1st District

Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick defeated right-wing challenger Mark Houck in the Bucks County congressional primary, according to a call by the Associated Press.

The race was viewed as a test of how important the issue of abortion could be for the Republican Party’s base in 2024. Fitzpatrick is a widely regarded as a moderate Republican. Houck advocated for a near total ban on abortions, while Fitzpatrick has called for compromise.

– Karissa Waddick

David McCormick clinches GOP primary for closely watched Senate seat

David McCormick won the Republican nomination for Senate in Pennsylvania. He ran unopposed in the race and will face incumbent Sen. Bob Casey in the general election.

– Karissa Waddick

Donald Trump, Joe Biden lock down Republican and Democratic primaries

Donald Trump and Joe Biden won their respective party primaries in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, picking up dozens of additional delegates as they both seek a second term in the White House.

– Marina Pitofsky

Sen. Bob Casey wins Democratic Senate  primary

Longtime Democratic Sen. Bob Casey won his party’s nomination for the U.S. Senate, after not facing any competition in the race. He will face Republican David McCormick in what’s expected to be a competitive, high dollar general election battle,

More: Pennsylvania Statewide and Presidential Primary Results

Where are Biden and Trump?

Neither Joe Biden nor Donald Trump campaigned in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, despite it being a major general election target for both candidates.

Instead, Trump appeared in a New York City courtroom for the second day of witness testimony in his hush money trial. And Biden delivered a speech in Tampa, Florida , attempting to tie Trump to the southern state’s law banning abortion after about six weeks of pregnancy.

Both candidates traveled to Pennsylvania last week for major campaign stops ahead of the primary.

– Karissa Waddick

Is Dean Phillips on the Pennsylvania ballot?

Yes – but the Minnesota congressman is no longer running against Joe Biden for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. Phillips, the former chair of the Talenti gelato empire, suspended his longshot bid against Biden in early March after suffering a string of double-digit defeats.

Pennsylvania was in the process of printing its primary ballots at the time he dropped out.

Will Pennsylvania Democrats vote “uncommitted” over Israel-Gaza war?

Pennsylvania does not have an “uncommitted” option on its presidential primary ballot like other states. But that isn’t likely to stop Democrats who plan to cast a protest vote opposing Joe Biden’s handling of the Israel and Hamas war.

The group Uncommitted PA is encouraging Democrats to write-in “uncommitted” on their ballot to advocate for an immediate ceasefire in the war. However, it may be difficult to gauge the impact of the effort. The state election office is unlikely to report a tally of the write-in votes.

Will Pennsylvania Democrats vote “uncommitted” over Gaza war?

Donald trump endorsed david mccormick in pennsylvania senate primary.

Before he entered the courtroom for his New York hush money trial on Tuesday, Trump urged voters to the polls in Pennsylvania.

Trump supported GOP Senate candidate David McCormick in his campaign to unseat Democratic Sen. Bob Casey.

“It’s very important to let them that we’re coming on Nov. 5, we’re coming big,” Trump said. “Pennsylvania get out and vote.”

Polling shows Trump and Biden in virtual tie

With less than seven months until the general election, a RealClearPolitics average of national polls shows the presidential race between Joe Biden and Donald Trump in a dead heat.

The average, calculated based on polls published between mid-March and mid-April, has Trump as 44.6% and Biden at 44.4%. The margin of error of +/- 0.2 is equal to the gap between the two candidates.

Who is Janelle Stelson?

Janelle Stelson, a former new anchor, is running as a Democrat in the state's 10th Congressional District. Her name recognition means she's looking like the frontrunner in the race, though she was also a longtime registered Republican who switched her registration last year.

Moderate Republican fights to keep seat as GOP battles over abortion

In Pennsylvania’s 1 st  Congressional District, longtime Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick is being challenged on his right flank by a candidate who believes abortions should be banned in nearly all circumstances — including in cases of rape and incest.

Mark Houck, Fitzpatrick’s opponent, was acquitted of criminal charges stemming from an altercation at an abortion clinic.  The incident reportedly  inspired him  to run for public office. A devout Catholic, Houck co-founded the men's religious group The King's Men. He's worked as an author, motivational speaker and human resources manager.

Fitzpatrick is a moderate Republican. He is one of a handful of Republican representatives serving in districts that Biden won in 2020.

The primary race could demonstrate just how important the  issue of abortion  is for the Republican Party’s base.

Donald Trump and Joe Biden aren't the only candidates competing in 2024

The rematch between Joe Biden and President Donald Trump is top of mind for most voters across the country this election season. But down-ballot races – including congressional and state-level races – are also sure to have a major impact.

And some already are.

In a competitive special election for a state house seat in deep-red Alabama last month, Democrat Marilyn Lands won  by nearly 25-points . Lands made abortion and in-vitro fertilization access a central point of her campaign. Her win was seen as a testament to the salience of those issues for voters in 2024.

Rep. Summer Lee faces primary challenger over Israel-Hamas war

A Democratic primary for Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District could reveal just how salient the Israel and Hamas war is for Democratic voters – particularly in swing areas of the country.

First-term progressive Rep. Summer Lee, who was among the early advocates calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, is facing a primary challenge from moderate Bhavini Patel over her opposition to the war.

Patel, a 29-year-old municipal council member, has framed the incumbent's criticism of Israel as detrimental to Biden’s re-election efforts

Malcolm Kenyatta and Mark Pinsley fight to compete against Tim DeFoor

State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta and Lehigh County Controller Mark Pinsley are the two Democrats competing to face off against Pennsylvania's Auditor General Tim DeFoor.

Kenyatta previously ran for Senate in Pennsylvania, finishing third in the primary now-Sen. John Fetterman won in 2022.

How many delegates does Joe Biden have?

Joe Biden has picked up 3,078 delegates as he seeks another term in the White House. He needed 1,968 to clinch the Democratic nomination.

Biden is widely expected to win the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, which would grant him 159 additional delegates.

When are the 2024 conventions?

The Republican Convention will run from July 15-18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Democratic Convention will take place a month later, from August 19-22, in Chicago, Illinois.

Which states haven’t held primaries yet?

While the results of the Republican and Democratic presidential primaries are all but set, a number of states still haven’t voted in either party’s race. Those states include Indiana, Maryland, Nebraska, West Virginia, Kentucky, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota. The District of Columbia held it’s GOP primary in March, but Democrats in the territory will cast their ballots in June.

Can I vote in Pennsylvania?

First-time voters or individuals who are casting a ballot in a new precinct will need to show identification, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State.

Acceptable identification includes a driver's license, student ID, a firearm permit, a current paycheck and more.

It is a closed primary , meaning that only voters who are registered Democratic or Republican may vote on candidates in their respective parties.

– Teresa Boeckel

What are the key Pennsylvania House races to watch?

  • 1st District: Longtime Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick is being challenged on his right flank by Mark Houk, a candidate who believes abortions should be banned in nearly all circumstances – including in cases of rape and incest.  The primary race could demonstrate just how important the issue of abortion is for the Republican Party’s base.
  • 7th District: Three Republicans – Kevin Dellicker, Ryan Mackenzie and Maria Montero – are competing to take on Democratic Rep. Susan Wild. Her seat is a top target for the GOP in November.
  • 10th District: Six Democrats are vying for the Democratic nomination to challenge GOP Rep. Scott Perry in the November election. Perry was a former chair of the Freedom Caucus, one of the most conservative factions of the Republican Party and was a key figure in efforts to  overturn the results  of the 2020 election. Democrats see an opportunity to flip the seat in the general election.
  • 12th District: Bhavini Patel is running against incumbent Rep. Summer Lee with a message centered on the Israel and Hamas war. Patel has cast herself as a more moderate, pro-Israel candidate and has criticized Lee for her opposition to providing U.S. military aid to Israel.

Who is running for Pennsylvania Attorney General?

Five Democrats and two Republicans are also battling for the open state attorney general position , once held by Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro. Michelle Henry, who is completing the remainder of Shapiro’s term since he was elected governor in 2022, is not running for the position.

Candidates in the Democratic primary include Eugene DePasquale, Keir Bradford-Grey, Joe Khan, Jared Solomon and Jack Stollsteimer.

On the Republican side, state house member Craig Williams is facing off against York County District Attorney Dave Sunday.

− Karissa Waddick

Can independents vote in primaries in Pennsylvania?

No, only registered Republicans and Democrats can cast their ballots in their party primaries. However, independent voters can vote on ballot questions.

− Marina Pitofsky

How many delegates does Donald Trump have?

Donald Trump has picked up 1,915 delegates as he seeks another term in office. He needed 1,215 delegates to lock down the 2024 Republican nomination.

The former president is expected to pick up 67 delegates in Pennsylvania's GOP primary on Tuesday.

Abortion fight plays out in Pennsylvania attorney general election

Abortion has roiled down-ballot races across the country, and Pennsylvania is no exception. Reproductive rights have been a major topic in the attorney general’s race.

All five Democratic candidates for attorney general have committed to protecting the right to abortion and access to FDA-approved medications such as  mifepristone . Meanwhile, the Republican candidates have said that they do not believe the state constitution guarantees the right to an abortion.

As attorney general, both sides would leave the issue for the state legislature to decide.

What time do the polls close in Pennsylvania?

Polls close in Pennsylvania at 8 p.m. ET. Anyone in line by 8 p.m. can vote.

Absentee and mail-in ballots also must be returned and received by election officials by 8 p.m.

Recent projections, delegate tracker, pennsylvania primaries 2024: lee and fitzpatrick survive, matchups set for november, house democrats help johnson avoid defeat on foreign aid bills, despite gop defections.

Final votes are set for Saturday, but a third Republican threatened to oust him.

The House on Friday cleared a key procedural hurdle in passing foreign aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan, despite dozens of Republican defections, with Democrats helping Speaker Mike Johnson avoid a stinging defeat.

Soon after, a third Republican said he would join a threatened move to oust him.

The chamber voted 316-94 to advance the bills, setting up Saturday votes on final passage of $95 billion in foreign assistance that has been held up in a political fight in Washington for several months.

Procedural votes such as Friday's are typically passed by the House majority alone, but Democrats stepped in to help push the legislation forward after Republican hard-liners collectively opposed the measure. More Democrats voted to advance the bills than Republicans.

"Democrats, once again, will be the adults in the room," said Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., during debate ahead of the vote.

Leaving the House floor after the vote, Johnson said the four foreign aid bills are “the best possible product” under the circumstances. "We look forward to final passage on the bill tomorrow."

The individual bills provide roughly $26 billion for Israel, $61 billion for Ukraine and $8 billion for the Indo-Pacific. The measures are similar to legislation passed by a bipartisan group in the Senate back in February, which tied all aid together into one measure.

MORE: A TikTok ban is wrapped in Speaker Johnson's foreign aid package: What happens next?

A fourth bill packaged into the foreign aid contains conservative priorities such as a TikTok ban bill, sanctions on Iran and legislation to seize Russian assets to help provide funding to Ukraine.

“Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan are on the frontlines of the struggle to preserve democracy around the world,” said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., during debate. “In the case of Ukraine and Israel, these two nations are quite literally in harm’s way.”

Pressure increased on lawmakers to pass aid after Iran's unprecedented attacks on Israel over the weekend.

Johnson has forged ahead with the foreign aid measures, calling them pivotal, despite pushback from the right-flank of his party and looming threats to his job .

A third House Republican, Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona, announced after Friday's vote his support for the motion to vacate the speaker's chair first introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene last month. In a statement, Gosar expressed frustration with moving ahead on aid to Ukraine rather than providing resources to the souther border.

"We need a Speaker who puts America first rather than bending to the reckless demands of the warmongers, neo-cons and the military industrial complex making billions from a costly and endless war half a world away,” Gosar said.

Three Republicans supporting a motion to vacate would be enough to remove Johnson, unless Democrats decide to help defend the Republican speaker.

On his way to the House floor for the vote, ABC News Senior White House Correspondent Selina Wang asked Johnson if he was worried about possibly being ousted.

“I don’t worry," Johnson responded. "I just do my job."

But GOP hard-liners aired their frustrations with Johnson and his approach to this issue during debate.

“I’m concerned that the speaker’s cut a deal with the Democrats to fund foreign wars rather than to secure a border,” Rep. Thomas Massie.

Massie, R-Ky., earlier this week called on Johnson to resign and joined Greene's motion to vacate.

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, also took issue with "another $100 million to fund war, unpaid for, with zero border security -- under a rule which Republicans should oppose because it is a process predesigned to achieve a desired predetermined outcome, with no border security."

"This was all precooked," Roy said. "It's why President Biden and Chuck Schumer are praising it."

MORE: Johnson says he won't change rules for ousting speakers after warnings from GOP hard-liners

Democrats, meanwhile, criticized Republicans for bringing dysfunction to the chamber.

"I would just say to my colleagues, 'Look at what MAGA extremism has gotten you: nothing. Nothing, not a damn thing,'" Rep. McGovern said, who also told his colleagues,“You don’t get an award when you’re doing your damn job.”

"We are in a divided government. Nobody is going to get everything they want," he added. "I hope today's vote loosens the grip that MAGA extremism has on this body, and especially when it comes to supporting our allies."

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez, also a Democratic member of the House Rules Committee, also condemned the delay in getting aid passed: “Congress is finally going to vote ... Why did it take us this long?"

The White House ahead of the vote released a statement of administration policy backing the bills, calling them "long overdue" and actions that would "send a powerful message about the strength of American leadership at a pivotal moment."

In the Lehigh Valley's 7th District, three Republicans -- Kevin Dellicker, Ryan Mackenzie, and Maria Montero -- ran to take on Democratic U.S. Rep. Susan Wild in the fall. Wild ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Wild won the general election over Republican Lisa Scheller by a tight 51-49 margin in 2022. She has been the Congresswoman from the region since 2018.

Ryan Mackenzie won during Tuesday night's primary and will face Wild in November.

In the 3rd District, which contains a wide swath of Philadelphia from the northwest, to the west, to the south, three-term Congressman Dwight Evans won after facing a primary challenge from Tracey Gordon.

Gordon, the city's former Register of Wills, lost a primary for that job in 2022 and had been mired in controversy during her time in office . The 3rd District is dominated by Democrats and is one of the bluest districts in the nation, according to the Cook Political Report. Nobody ran for the seat in the Republican primary.

Democrats and Republicans, including several incumbents, ran unopposed in their primaries in the 2nd District, 4th District, 5th District, and 6th District. All four of those seats are currently held by Democrats.

7 candidates running for Attorney General

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro vacated the Attorney General's office in 2023 as he ramped up his election campaign for his new job. The current AG, Michelle Henry, was appointed by Shapiro to finish his term and is not running to keep the position.

Two Republicans and five Democrats ran in the primaries for the right to battle for the seat in November.

The Democrats are:

  • Keir Bradford-Gray, of Philadelphia, the former chief public defender in the city
  • Joe Khan, of Bucks Co., a former assistant district attorney in Philadelphia and Bucks Co. Solicitor
  • Eugene DePasquale, of Pittsburgh, the former auditor general of Pennsylvania
  • Jared Solomon, a member of the Pa. House of Representatives from Philadelphia
  • Jack Stollsteimer, the district attorney in Delaware County

Former auditor general of Pennsylvania Eugene DePasquale won on Tuesday night's primary.

On the Republican side, York County DA Dave Sunday ran against Craig Williams, a member of the Pa. House from the 160th District in Delco and Chester Counties. Sunday won and will face DePasquale in November.

Dems running competitive races for other statewide positions

Democrats ran against each other in the primary elections for two other key statewide offices: Auditor General, the state's chief fiscal officer, and Treasurer.

Pa. state representative Malcolm Kenyatta won in the race for Auditor General against Mark Pinsley who is the current controller in Lehigh County.

For treasurer, Pa. state rep Ryan Bizzarro from Erie County ran against Erin McClelland, an addiction counselor and businesswoman who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2012 and 2016.

Republicans hold both seats currently and the incumbents ran unopposed. Tim Defoor of Dauphin County ran for re-election as Auditor General and Stacy Garrity of Bradford County ran for her second four-year term as treasurer.

Noncompetitive primaries for President, U.S. Senate

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump both won after going before voters Tuesday in Pennsylvania’s presidential primaries, a prelude to the November general election, when the commonwealth is expected to once again play a critical role in the race for the White House. Further down the ballot, voters also selected nominees in competitive primaries for Congress, the state legislature and three statewide offices.

Biden clinched the Democratic nomination and Trump clinched the Republican nomination on March 12, and neither faces serious opposition on the primary ballot. Nonetheless, both presumptive nominees have campaigned in Pennsylvania in recent days with their focus more on the November election and each other than on Tuesday’s vote.

Biden just completed a three-day campaign swing that began last Tuesday in his hometown of Scranton and concluded Thursday in Philadelphia in an event with members of the Kennedy family. Days earlier, Trump held a rally in Lehigh County, his third visit to the state this year.

Pennsylvania is also home to a competitive U.S. Senate contest, but Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey and Republican David McCormick both ran unopposed in Tuesday's primary.

The Casey vs. McCormick showdown in November's general election will be one of the most hotly-contested races of the fall cycle.
