The Sims 2

In The Sims 2 , The Sims Stories , The Sims 3 and The Sims 4 , children and teens get homework on school days. Homework comes in the form of a school notebook, with differing covers depending on the student's life stage [ TS2 ] [ TS4 ] and the number of days that have passed. [ clarification needed ] [ TS2 ] Homework can be completed at a desk or on the floor, and will usually take a Sim hour to complete. Failing to complete homework generally results in bad grades. In The Sims 4: Discover University , students young adult and above are also given homework after each class.

The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories [ ]

In The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories , children and teens will have homework in their hands after they get off the school bus. If possible, they will put the assignment on or by a desk, and seem to prefer the first desk that was placed in the house, even if it is in an illogical or inaccessible location. [n 1] If a student has unfinished homework, he or she will put the new homework on top of it. The player can tell the student to put the homework down by canceling the "Go to School" icon. Homework can be moved in buy and build modes, though it cannot be sold. A child's homework will be brightly colored, while a teen's homework will be plainly colored.

Clicking on the homework gives the child or teen an option to complete it or ask an older Sim for help. An older household member, when the homework is clicked, can offer help with finishing the homework. A child or teen who is being helped with homework will finish it faster, and will gain the memory of being taught to study . This will fulfill the "Ask for Homework Help" want , and will allow them to do homework more quickly in the future. If Seasons is installed, students will do homework faster in the fall , or after drinking apple juice .

Sims can do homework while seated at a desk or sitting down on the ground. There does not appear to be any difference in completion speed depending on how the Sim is seated. If Apartment Life is installed, Sims cannot do homework that is placed in an apartment 's communal area.

Sims will not usually get distracted while doing homework, unless their motives are low. They are more likely to get distracted if they are being helped by an older Sim. It is usually best to ensure that both the student and the mentor are in a good mood prior to beginning the interaction, and that no other interactions are in their queue until the homework has been completed.

There is no time limit on completing homework, but doing (or not doing) homework will affect a student's grades. A student who goes to school in a good mood with all homework done will gain a better grade. Students will not be penalized for going to school with one piece of incomplete homework, but going to school with more than one piece of incomplete homework may cause their grades to drop. [n 2]

Sims may have a want to do homework. This want will be fulfilled when they complete a piece of homework. This want will be fulfilled even if the homework they complete belongs to another Sim.

Young adults in college do not receive homework, but can optionally do assignments in order to improve their class performance.

If a teen has unfinished homework when he or she is sent to college or becomes an adult , it will disappear.

The Sims 3 [ ]

Sim children doing their homework

Two child Sims completing their homework.

On school days, children and teens will come home with homework in their inventory . This is unlike The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories , where they would place the homework down. They can simply "Do Homework" on their own, "Do Homework With..." another friend of their age group, or "Get Help From" an older Sim on the lot. Sims can also do someone else's homework, or copy someone's homework if that person already did it, although this can cause after school detention. Sims may stop doing homework if they are hungry , tired, have the "Stressed" moodlet, or have a low bladder meter. Sims with bookworm and workaholic traits, as well as logic skill get homework done faster, and the library is a good place to study. The level of logic skill does not increase the rate of finishing homework; only one skill point in Logic is necessary. In Supernatural , vampires also do homework faster than normal Sims, and witches may magically finish it in a matter of seconds with a chance of being Singed . Homework is a hidden skill.

Students who skip homework or do not complete it on time will receive a bad mark in the Homework area of their school performance (This can be found in the 'School' section of the Simology panel) and may get detention. Students who complete their homework on time get a good mark in this section. However, homework can be finished while at school using the "Work on Late Homework" option. However, if the teacher catches them, they may get an after school detention. Good students grow up to be good adults, so it is important that young Sims maintain good grades. If a Sim has an A when they age up, the player will be able to choose his or her next trait. [n 3]

In Generations , children can bury their homework in the sandbox, but will receive a bad grade for doing so.

The Sims 4 [ ]

Sim doing homework TS4

A teen doing homework in The Sims 4 .

Once Sims become a child or teen on-screen, they will automatically receive a homework book appropriate for their life stage in their inventory, whether or not they have attended school in the past. Children will have a yellow book labeled "Grade School Homework" while teens will receive a blue book simply labeled "Homework". When a student receives a B or above from school, they will be given the option "Do Extra Credit" if they have finished the homework by clicking again on their individual homework books. If a student receives a D or below they can "Do Make Up Work" which works functionally the same as "Do Extra Credit". Children have the ability to receive help from adults. Unlike previous games, children who neglect their homework still have a fair shot at keeping their school performance high by completing other tasks such as maintaining certain moods or building skills. If a player's Sim misplaces a homework book or ages up to a child or teen off-screen, they can purchase a new homework book for §1 from a bookcase, or simply use another Sim's homework book. Unlike previous games, a homework book is not tied to a particular Sim.

If all four of a child Sim's skills ( creativity , mental , motor , social ) are at least level 3, "Do Homework" changes to "Breeze Through Homework", meaning the Sim is already skilled and can complete the homework more quickly. With all four skills at level 7, this changes again to "Dominate Homework," and the homework can be completed even more quickly. This speed boost is not available to teen Sims.

Homework is given to young adult sims and older in The Sims 4: Discover University . Students must complete homework before every class to achieve high grades. Although failure to do so may impact a sim’s performance at university, homework is not essential. Sims that miss their homework can make up for it by studying extra hours, or edit their term papers to be outstanding quality. However to get the highest grades, it is recommended that university students finish homework before each class.

Like with school homework, a new university homework book can be purchased from any bookcase or university kiosk. Homework of any type can be completed 50% faster on lots with the “Study Spot” lot trait .

  • ↑ A mod on Mod The Sims remedies this issue by forcing Sims to place their homework at a player-defined location, rather than at random.
  • ↑ Grades are adjusted according to the amount of incomplete homework remaining on the lot, and not whether the homework was actually completed. Thus, players can simply delete homework using the moveobjects cheat or have a pet destroy it, and Sims will not be penalized for it.
  • ↑ If the School is deleted, then the player will get to choose their next trait if the Sim was in a Good Mood.

how to do homework in sims 2

  • College 101

Oh, it's such a great experience in a Sim's life. They have a baby, raise it to a child, and deal with the hormonal changes that come from the transformation to a teenager. Yes, it's a proud day in life when a Sim can kick its young into the pseudo-real world known as college.

Like everything in The Sims 2, college does not come with a just a few clicks. Well, it does eventually, but at the beginning, you need to set up your virtual town to even possess a college. It's pretty easy, and we're here to guide you through the steps.

Attaching a College to a Neighborhood When you first run University after installing it, you won't notice many changes at first aside from the new logo. However, the game makes you put on your Decision Making cap fairly early on.

The first thing you do at the title screen is select your neighborhood how you normally would. Once it loads, though, you're given the prompt to add a college, or wait for later. I'm sure you didn't buy the expansion to use the discs as coasters, so you might as well select to add a college now.

Sims2u04.jpg

Once you add it, you'll be taken to the Campus Screen (a.k.a. the Neighborhood Screen for the college). There you'll see all the buildings for that university, plus a window will give you a back-story of it. Any lots with the green crystal above it has at least one Sim ready to go, but don't jump into things yet. For now, just check out the view. Make note of where the gym, library, and dorms are.

Once you scout your new university, you can now exit back to the Neighborhood Screen by clicking the left-pointing arrow in the top-left corner of the screen. From here, you can click the university button (it has a graduation cap on it) to view the list of colleges you have attached to the city. Basically, it's a lot like picking a neighborhood within a neighborhood.

Sims2u05.jpg

All universities attach themselves to that neighborhood only. Therefore, you can't have Sims from two neighborhoods in the same college. That said, the template universities are available to all neighborhoods regardless of if they have already been attached. For example, I can add Sim State University to Pyroville, Falkon City, and IGN Town (full of jaded and bitter Sims). The Sims, however, won't be able to interact with each other.

Thinking about College Just because you now have a university (or four) doesn't mean you have to use it. Like real life, college is an option, and Sims don't have to go. If you want to, however, you'll have to know the process.

First of all, you can simply create Sims for a given college. It's as simple as going to the Campus Screen of your choice, then creating any number of students (up to eight), just like you do families. Doing so will put all of them at the precise age they need to be at with no hassle. However, they have no scholarship, and therefore few funds to bring to the table.

Sims2u06.jpg

Speaking of that, a concept you need to think about is the life span of your Sim. There's a new, hidden life stage called Young Adult that was introduced with this expansion pack. If your Sim decides to skip college, that life stage will not be available, and he will lose a good 24 days that he could have used gaining job skills.

So, if you're planning on sending a Sim from a family to a college, the first thing you need to do is get him working on job skills right away. As a child, have him paint or play chess to get his Creativity or Logic up. Not only will that ensure his getting a good scholarship or two, but he'll be ahead of the curve once on campus.

Once your Sim become a teenager, you can immediately send him to college, but you should still wait at first to get his job skills up even higher. Every point counts, after all. I recommend waiting until you get the alert that his birthday (to become an adult) is two days away. At that point, finish up anything you need to, then select that Sim as the active one. Click a phone, select "College…" from the pie menu, then "Apply for Scholarships" in the pop-up box. You'll be told how much you'll get to start with. Then, click the phone again, select "College…," and move out to the exciting world of streaking and beer!

Getting Settled in College Once your college student has moved out, you'll have to exit back to the neighborhood screen. From there, click the university button in the top-left corner of the screen, and go to the school you wish your Sim to be enrolled in. He'll be in the Sim Bin, ready to go. Select him, then look around at the housing options.

You basically have two options: dorms or houses. Houses allow more privacy and some of the comforts of a "typical" home, not to mention faster processing times on a slower computer. Dorms will be smaller and more crowded, but cheaper, and you'll have other Sims everywhere to help out that Social Meter. The choice is up to you really, but if you didn't get too good of scholarships, you may have to settle on dorms out of need.

Sims2u07.jpg

Within a minute, CPU-controlled Sims will begin pouring into the lot, and they'll start claiming any door they see. Your Sim will need to decide pretty quickly what room to take, hence the need to pause. Find a room you like (preferably one with a desk), and have your Sim claim the door. Lock it if you wish, too.

Now, you can go to Buy or Build Mode and tweak things how you want to, but the money you received for this term is not limitless. You could (and should) upgrade your bed, for example, but don't start making sweeping architectural changes.

Sims2u08.jpg

If you instead chose to rent a house, you'll have a lot less you need to worry about. You won't have to claim anything, and the layout is probably pretty convenient. You will, however, have to cook your own meals, which may pose a time issue sometimes. However, you can hire a maid or a gardener like any residential lot to help out with maintenance.

How to Hit the Books School isn't all about partying, and now that you're settled in your temporary four-year home, it's time to get to work. The first thing you need to do is check out the college-specific job panel. It's accessed the way all job panels are, by clicking the middle of the five buttons beside the mood meter.

The college job panel lists your current major, if you have one, and your class name, description, and time for the semester. Also there is the Sim's GPA for his college career and a new type of job performance bar, which I'll explain now.

Sims2u09.jpg

However, notice that there are also job requirements, indicated by circled job skills. You see, even though the meter is there, it's not entirely maxed out. The white curves inside the "shell" of the meter indicate the maximums of the meter. I know that's a little confusing, but read on and it should be more clear.

At first, even if your Sim does nothing but study, its best grade will be a C or so. In order to extend the performance meter's maximum, the Sim must learn the job skill that is circled. For example, if the bubble beside Logic is circled, then the Sim must gain a point in Logic to get the performance meter's maximum up. At that point, studying more may yield a B-level performance. Usually, you'll need to gain two job skill points to give the performance meter up to its maximum maximum, which would yield an A, or a 4.0 GPA. Studying past the maximum of the bar doesn't help, so if you get that far, don't worry about going to class or doing assignments anymore.

Now that you know about classes, you'll have to know how to get to them. Luckily, it's pretty easy, and you'll get a helpful reminder when it's time. First, look at the job panel again. See the hours it lists for the class? You'll be reminded when to go one hour before the class starts (similar to seeing and hearing the carpool of a conventional job).

Sims2u10.jpg

Class work helps boost the school performance meter pretty well, but nothing beats writing a term paper. To do so, find any computer and select the appropriate options in the pie menu. Writing a term paper takes awhile, but you'll get a huge boost to your performance. In fact, the boost is so huge, you shouldn't write your term paper until the bar has achieved its maximum maximum.

For lesser boosts, you can do assignments any time by clicking the active Sim and choosing "College…" > "Do Assignment." Your Sim will go to the desk in his dorm room if he can, or he'll plop on the floor and write there. Either way, the boost is small, but it's enough to make a difference. You can also research your field at the college library, but we'll talk about that in a second.

At the end of each semester (semesters last three Sim days), you'll have a final exam. You'll be warned five hours in advance that it's coming, and once you get that warning, the job panel will actually tell you how many hours to go. You still can't get there until just one hour prior, but be sure to get there on time. The penalty for missing your final exam is huge: we're talking two letter grades here. It's a pretty harsh penalty to crap away all your hard work when you simply overslept. Luckily, you'll get another warning when there's only one hour to go. At that time, click the active Sim, and select "College…" > "Go To Final Exam," and you'll be on your way.

Those are the basics of how to succeed in college. But, there's far more to cover, so read on to get all the juicy details!

College Towns [ edit ]

When you first load the game, you are given the option to add a 'university' or 'college town' to your neighbourhood. Like sub-neighbourhoods in the original sims, universities are tied to their base neighbourhood. You are also given a choice of three universities. You can choose one or choose all three. In fact, you can have an infinite number of colleges. Each college has different lots but share some similarities. In college towns you're bound to find.

  • Dormitories. Where sims go when they start college but don't have enough money for a private residence. Dorms have all the basic necessities for your sims.
  • Residences. If you don't want to share a lot with other sims and have the money, you can opt for a private residence.
  • Greek Houses. Sims can join fraternities and sororities in college. In fact, there's no gender limitation on Greek Houses.
  • Gyms. Sims are sure to find a gym to work out and exercise.
  • Libraries. Some sims need the quiet atmosphere of a library so they can study for their exams.
  • Coffee Houses. Sims may need an espresso rush to give them enough energy to pass their final exam.
  • Student Lounge. Socialize and relax from the pressures of class. Play at the arcade or try your hand at pool. Some lounges even have instruments to perform with
  • Campus Shops. Sims don't need to journey back to their home neighbourhood to find their shopping needs. Groceries, Magazines, Games, Clothes and Gadgets are all available at the college.

Getting Into College [ edit ]

Only teens can enter college. There are a few ways to get into college.

  • Create your own students in the Create-A-Student menu.
  • Use the send teens to college button in the neighbourhood view.
  • Call the college with your phone and select College . Then click Move to College out of the options.

Before you go to college you may want to earn a scholarship. There are plenty of scholarships to get for various achievements such as getting high grades and earning high skill. Scholarships are earned at the new College menu available on the phone. Regardless of how you get a sim to college, all sims are dropped into the student bin. Move them into any lot that's available. If the sim was a teen, a special movie will play of them growing up.

Living in College [ edit ]

There are plenty of things to do in college.

Greek Houses [ edit ]

One major want for popularity sims is to join a greek house. To do this select the Greek House menu on the phone and click on join and choose the house you wish to join. After a while, members from the house will come and you will be required to impress them enough for you to join. Alternatively, you can play the house and get members with the Ask to Pledge interaction.

Influence [ edit ]

Get sims to do what you want. Influence is a new tool for the manipulative sim. When you fulfill certain wants they add points to the influence meter. As the meter fills up you can make sims do certain acts such as socializing with other sims, pulling pranks and doing your homework. As well, you can earn more influence when you earn more friends.

Money [ edit ]

Fortune sims want money even in college. There are several ways to earn money.

  • Getting a job. The job isn't official but you can earn money by working as a bartender, barista or working in the cafeteria.
  • Playing an instrument. You can perform music for tips. You can also rap along to the music if that's your flair.
  • Passing exams. You earn cash rewards whenever you pass exams. The higher the grade the higher the money.

Partying [ edit ]

There are three new parties in The Sims 2: University.

  • Sports Party. Available if you have a TV. Sims love their sports. Invite your sims over and watch the new sports channel.
  • Toga Party. Available in a greek house. Sims don bed sheets and party with their friends.
  • Graduation Party. Available when a sim has passed all their final exams. Commemorate your four years at college with a special party. At the end of the party, your sim goes home.

Academics [ edit ]

Academics are the point of colleges. In the skills panel, you'll notice a new bar, fill that bar up to pass your final exam. If you can't fill it up, check your skills. If a skill is highlighted and hasn't been gained, it's holding you back. Complete your skills to achieve the highest level. At your final exam, your grade is taken. If it's red, you failed, if it isn't you passed. Failing means two things.

  • Fail once and you are put on academic probation and have to repeat the semester.
  • Fail twice consecutively and you get kicked out of college. You can also drop out if it becomes too hard.

Why would you want to pass your final exam? Graduating out of college gives you special benefits. You can also influence the skills you need by choosing a major.

Out of College [ edit ]

There are several benefits from graduating from college.

Careers [ edit ]

Getting a diploma helps your career. You can also choose from four more careers if you graduated.

Lifetime Wants [ edit ]

All sims receive a lifetime want. Colleges give you more time to fulfill your lifetime want if it's a non-career one. If it is a career one, then graduating will help you in your chosen career. Fulfilling your lifetime want will put you in platinum aspiration for the rest of your life.

A teen Sim does homework on a plain desk

In The Sims 4 ’s new expansion, High School Years , your teen Sims can head out to school the same way some Sims head to work. You can go with them to control what they do throughout the school day, affecting their relationships and academic growth.

Notably, in the career tab for the teen Sim, you’ll see that they have a daily task to “do homework” after every school day (as you’d expect from school). Though homework for young Sims is not a new addition, it can be new for players who never had teenage Sims.

The homework your teen Sim has to do will be in their personal inventory , as a little blue book. You can select it and click “do homework” and your teen Sim will move to a nearby table to do it.

Based on our gameplay, not doing homework didn’t do anything too dramatic to the Sims’ school performances. As long as your teen Sim is attending class, they’ll progress in their career just fine. However, if you want them to improve their grades faster, they should actively be doing their homework.

The Sims 4: How to do Homework

Homework in The Sims 4 is a necessary evil and a part of everyday life for most people IRL so it makes sense that it would be inside a life simulation game. From the time your sims turn into children until they’ve graduated University they are going to be doing homework and it will take up a significant part of their lives.

There are actually a few hacks you should know to get your sims to have more fun when doing homework, get it done quicker, and just generally finish it in a timely fashion that will make you a better sims player.

How to Do Homework for Children

When a sim’s kid returns from their long day at school they are going to have a little orange book inside of their inventory which is their homework. This should be completed before they attend school again which is usually the next day unless it’s the weekend.

You can get your sims to start doing their homework by clicking on the homework book in their inventory and choosing do homework . Your sims will find the nearest place to sit (even on the ground) to start working on their homework and will work until they are finished unless they are interrupted by low needs or an event trigger like a fire.

Any adult can come over to this sim while they are doing their homework and you can choose help with homework which will get the adult involved and sitting with the child and they will get their homework done much quicker.

There is even a system for sims kids (not teens) where if your kid gets all of the four children skills to level 3 they’ll have the option to breeze through homework instead of do homework and this will get the job done quicker.

Getting these skills all to level 7 will give them the option to dominate homework which will get it done even more quickly. This is a nice hack to really finish it without it being a huge part of their day.

Once a child has finished their homework, if they have a B or higher in school, they actually have the option to do extra credit after they’ve finished their regular homework. This is good for you if you want to get your sims to increase their school performance.

If you ever find your sims without a homework book in their inventory and you have no idea where it could be you can actually purchase these for one simoleon on any book case!

How to Do Homework for Teens

Homework works pretty much the same way for teens except their homework book is a nice blue colour instead of the orange that kids get. To get them to work on their homework you’ll get them to go into their inventory and click on it and choose do homework and they will start working on it.

They too have the option to have an adult sim to help with homework by getting that sim to click on them when they’ve started their homework and getting them to assist to make it go more quickly.

Once a teenager has a B in school they have the option to do extra credit after they’ve finished their regular homework. This will help them increase their school performance and get to an A as soon as possible.

Bonus Tip: Use the earbuds from The Sims 4: Fitness Stuff Pack when doing homework to keep your sims fun need up so they aren’t feeling tense when they’re done working on it.

School Projects

With The Sims 4: Parenthood there’s a pretty decent chance each week that your sims kids will come home with a school project that they can decide to complete for a boost to their grades. If they don’t complete it within a few days they may get a small decrease to their school grades but it’s not substantial.

These projects come home with your sims in their inventory and are rather easy to complete. They have the option to work on it either carefully or sloppily. Choosing sloppily will get the job done quicker, however, you won’t see a huge increase to their grades but you also won’t see a decrease.

The better option is to work carefully so your sims can improve their school grades. While they are working on these projects they’ll actually gain a skill depending on the type of homework they are working on. For sims kids they’ll be skills like mental, creativity, etc. but for teenagers it’ll be more specific like rocket science or painting .

One awesome thing is that you can get other sims to assist in the project up to 3 sims so you can get these projects done extremely quickly and if an adult sim who has a high skill in the project type assists it’ll go so quickly.

Working on these will also increase your sim’s kids’ responsibility character value which is awesome but failing to complete it will negativity impact this.

3 sims sitting on the floor working on a project with a toddler standing nearby in overalls and a mom on the couch in the back

How to Do Homework in University

With the 2019 addition of The Sims 4: Discover University we have a whole new type of homework for your sims to have to work on. These homework books are going to be a black and white composite notebook that will appear in your sims inventory when they enroll in their first semester of university.

Each time your sim goes to a class they are going to need to do their homework before they attend that class if they want to get a good grade, meaning that if you’re taking multiple classes your sim will be needing to do homework multiple times per week.

To get this University homework done you’ll want to click on the homework book and choose which class’ homework you actually want to work on and get started. You don’t have to do it all in one sitting so you can start and stop as many times as you want.

An awesome detail about University homework is that if your sims have a high level of the research and debate skill they’ll actually breeze through their homework much more quickly. You can also add the study spot lot trait to your sim’s lot to make it easier.

Final Thoughts

Homework is something you can’t avoid if you want your sims to do well in school when they’re young, but there’s no need to stress about it. Sims grades won’t affect their later days work performance or the overall success in their life, so no worries if you don’t get it done. Happy Playing!

I've been playing the Sims since the first game was released when I was only 5 years old. It's been a huge passion of mine for two decades and I've loved every single minute of it. I also love dogs. And grilled cheese sandwiches. And I think me and Bob Pancakes could be friends.

It do work!

Doing a 4 course in sims 4 is a real tedious chore. It will consume all your sims time and you won’t have time to do anything else. They did this way worse than sims 3 university.

There are a few tricks mind you! First of all you can be at home instead, makes it all much easier and you can(like mentioned above) add the “study spot” trait to your home.

The next trick is using the club! Make sure, if you go to the university, add everyone you see to your club. Focus on getting “Rally the Troops” perk. That will allow you to get back all your energy and other needs quickly whenever you want. There is no cooldown on this. It requires 500 points so it’s not bad at all. Just make sure the gathering is on at all times(which it should be since you most likely won’t be leaving the lot). The homework perk does not work for university.

EA could easily have fixed this by reducing the homework time from 2 hours to 1 hours imo. They made it too much of a chore. It’s a GAME after all.

But that’s the whole challenge bruh

When you think of gaming, homework probably is the furthest thing from your mind– but in the Sims 4, knowing how to do homework is the key to becoming a successful student, integral with the parenting skill, and impacts your Sims’ life in a few ways.

One thing’s for certain: whether you’re trying to raise a family, or cramming study sessions in between dorm parties, knowing how to do homework is a must in the Sims 4– and there’s more to it than you might think. Consider this your guide to homework, and all things related, in the Sims 4.

Homework in Sims: A Brief History

Homework has been signature gameplay in the Sims franchise. As a life simulator, it only makes sense that, just like players have to contend with paying bills, cleaning dirty dishes, and juggling careers with relationships, parenting, and everyday life. And it’s actually rather interesting to see how doing homework in the Sims has been important from generation to generation, but also evolved.

Here’s a Sparknotes version of the history of homework in the Sims franchise.

how to do homework in sims 2

Homework was not a mainstay of the original Sims game, but it was in the Sims 2. In the Sims 2, homework was important for teens, kids, and the then-new young adult life stage.

Children and Teens

A child and teen in the Sims 2 were required to go to school (with options for both public and private). Homework was generated daily. After the bus brought the kid home, that child Sim would have a physical copy of homework in their hand. Normally, homework would be set on a desk or nearby surface, though I remember many times it would just as often be placed on the ground. Completing homework had a direct effect on the Sims’ grades. Every day without incomplete homework resulted in a deduction.

A teen’s homework was a duller color, compared with the bright hues of a kid’s homework. If a Sims’ needs were not met, then they would likely not finish homework. When a Sim aged up, their homework automatically disappeared.

There were a few basic interactions for children and teens with homework in the Sims 2.

  • Work on Homework
  • Complete Homework
  • Ask for Homework Help — this could be asked of any older Sim, and not only helped Sims complete homework more quickly, but also allowed them to complete homework more efficiently in the future.

Young Adults

Young adults were introduced in the Sims 2 University expansion pack, and have since become perhaps the most popular life stage in the Sims franchise. In the Sims 2, this life stage was limited to the University expansion. These young adults worked on assignments in order to influence their grades. It worked in a similar way as with kids and teens, though in addition to homework, they also had exams to deal with.

Sims 3 continued the homework system from Sims 2, making it clear that doing homework would become an expected gameplay feature in the Sims franchise. In many ways, Sims 3 kept the same basic systems for homework intact but enhanced it through new traits, packs, and an updated interface.

School, again, was mandatory for children in the Sims 3 , with a new boarding school option for no private school. If a Sim was sent to boarding school, there was nothing that you needed to worry about in terms of completing homework. Otherwise, it worked more or less the same way: new homework was generated and had to be completed for every school day.

New features included:

  • The ability to do homework with a Sim of the same age
  • The ability to copy homework (which could send them to detention)
  • Ability to work on past due homework
  • Enhanced homework completion with the workaholic and bookworm traits or if your Sim was a vampire (Sims 3: Supernatural expansion)
  • Homework became a hidden skill
  • Sims with an A average could select their new trait when they became a teen or young adult
  • Grades listed in the new Simology panel

Young Adults (and Adults)

Sims who opted to attend college (via the Sims 3: University Life expansion pack), of course, had homework of their own. Homework, or assignments, were fairly similar to Sims 2, and, like Sims 2, the grades were determined by other factors like exams, but also somewhat how they behaved in their seminars, as well as outside projects.

Homework in the Sims 4- Your Guide

how to do homework in sims 2

If you’ve played previous Sims games, the good news is that homework in the Sims 4 isn’t too different from previous Sims games. But like each generation, there are different tricks and tips you need to keep in mind to be successful, whether you are just looking to complete homework to help teens pass high school, or your Sims are tackling on a degree at the University of Britechester or Foxbury Institute of Technology.

Here’s what I think you need to know.

Children are required to go to school, and Sims 4 does arguably take a step back in that public school is the only option for children and teens.

Getting to School

In a curious move, Sims 4 does not have any transportation that picks Sims up. In fact, the lack of even cars in the game has been a source of contention. In any case, a school bus won’t pick up children or teens, nor can you watch them make their way to school, as you could in the Sims 3. Instead, children and teens will either automatically transport themselves to school, or you can prompt them.

Decisions During School

Especially if you have Sims 4 Parenthood game pack, you can influence teen and child Sims’ days at school, at least a little. Pop-ups may occasionally come up where you are given a scenario, just as another kid caught cheating, or your Sim being teased. Some of these will impact your Sim’s mood and social life. Sometimes, a child or teen will also ask for advice, which is tied to Sims 4 Parenthood parenting skills.

Locating Homework

As was the case with Sims 2, there is a small distinction in the appearance of children and teens’ homework. Children Sim will have a yellow Grade School Handbook, which, when not being worked on, is typically in their inventory. Teen homework is a blue notebook.

If you’re like me, though, sometimes homework gets lost in the house. If that happens you can actually purchase homework from a bookcase for a single simoleon. And unlike in the Sims 2, homework isn’t assigned to one Sim in particular, meaning a kid can complete their homework even if it wasn’t their original copy.

How to Do/ Complete Homework

To work on homework, simply drag it out of your Sims’ inventory and click on it for the “Do Homework” option. You can have your Sim to do homework all at once, or pick it back up after taking care of their needs. Remember, your teen or child Sim will be assigned homework every school day, with no new homework on weekends.

Homework and Grade Performance

Knowing how to do homework in Sims 4 is helpful for grade performance, but it also isn’t the only factor. In fact, by building skills, working on projects, and even keeping your Sims in a good mood, you can remain a fairly good student even when you skip homework from time to time.

Sims that are at a B or A average also will have access to the “Do Extra Credit” option. This pops up after they complete their homework for the day and you select their homework a second time (homework doesn’t disappear after being completed like previous Sims games). Extra credit is a chance to boost your Sims’ grades even more.

School Projects

School Projects are a unique feature exclusive to the Sims 4: Parenthood game pack. Available to teens and children, Sims can both work on their own projects and assist others. Working on a project builds all child skills at once.

Unlike homework, there is no official deadline for school projects so there aren’t penalties for however long it takes. Once a project is completed, the student can start on a new one. Adults can help both teens and kids; kids can be helped by teens/.

You’ll be able to select from one of seven projects, all available for purchase on build mode. The completed project will be rated as excellent, good, or poor. Siblings may get upset with one another if their project is destroyed by a brother or sister.

How to Do Homework Faster

I admit; sometimes I get impatient with doing homework in Sims 4, especially if I have other plans for the family. The good news is that, if you work on your Sims’ skills, you can speed up the process for children.

You’ll need to work equally on the four major skills for Sim Children: creativity; mental; motor; social; and mental. Level 3 of all of these allows you to “Breeze through Homework” while level 7 allows them to “Dominate Homework”.

For teens, your only real option is installing a mod (which I will discuss later).

University Students

how to do homework in sims 2

Young adult and adult Sims can attend one of two campuses if you have the The Sims 4: Discovery University expansion pack installed. Homework, as you might imagine, is part of the equation–but the homework system looks different for adult and young adult Sims than it does for younger Sims, which impacts how you should do homework.

Getting Accepted

I won’t go into a full guide to the Discover University pack, but, in a nutshell, you Sim will have to first apply using a computer. Based upon their previous grades, skill set, and some other factors, they will either be offered or denied admission to the program of their choice at the University of Britechester of Foxbury Institute of Technology.

There is also the opportunity to gain scholarships and take out loans to finance their education. In my experience, most get accepted to school but may be limited to pursuing an honorary degree. Humanities-based degrees at Britechester, like English Literature, are honorary, while if you want a science or technology degree with distinction your Sim should attend the more modern Foxbury.

Homework Load at University

Homework is a part of the university experience in Sims 4, and doing it will help your Sims’ performance. Homework appears in their inventory (as a black and white book) and is meant to be completed before every class. You can also purchase homework from a bookshelf or the college’s kiosk (found out on the quad).

Classes are usually in the form of seminars and do not last all day, but your Sim, depending on your enrollment decisions, will likely have at least two classes per day, meaning you’ll have to juggle multiple assignments.

Other Types of Homework

In addition to doing daily homework, Sims need to attend class regularly. You’ll also be working towards end of the semester exams, final projects, and term papers, depending on the class. Doing homework daily is helpful in keeping their grade average high, and putting a little less pressure on a term paper. It is possible to flunk out of college, so doing homework on a regular basis and attending classes is a must.

How to Make Homework Easier

how to do homework in sims 2

Knowing how to do homework doesn’t cut it, though. Between classes, roommates, parties, extracurriculars, and just taking care of basic needs, if you’re like me, you’ll want to tip things in your Sims’ favor a little. Here are some tips

  • Work on skills related to their major, or current classes
  • Keep your Sim in a good mood by keeping needs in check
  • Decorate your space with objects that exude a “Focused” mood (you can see this if you hover over objects in buy mode)
  • Lock your dorm room to other Sims when studying
  • Work on the Research and Debate skills
  • Study in the library or another place if your roommate is partying
  • Live off-campus and apply the “Study Spot” lot traits

Using Mods for Better Homework

If you know how to do homework in the Sims 4 but want it to run more smoothly, another option is to download a mod. I always caution that mods are at your own risk, and they can break, so make sure you check to see that the mod has been updated and that you’re downloading from a secure site.

Better Autonomous Homework by LittleMsSam

This mod fixes what many saw as a deficit in the Sims 4 homework system, by making sure that child Sims will do their homework without your prompting. Now and Sim with an A, B, or C average won’t require you to direct them to do their homework, at least initially.

There are optional add ons, too, such as careers affecting the speed they complete their homework; automatic transfer of homework to inventories when not in use; and a mod for NPCs. Read/ Download Here .

Faster Homework (University Edition) by Scarlet’s Mods

As the name suggests, this mod allows your Sims studying at college to do homework faster. While homework normally takes 150 Sim minutes to complete, this mod allows them to complete it in 10, 25 or 50 minutes. It’s truly a huge time saver. Read/ Download Her e.

Subject Homework by ScarletQueenKat

Subject Homework adds a little nuance and potential storytelling element for how to do homework for teens and kids in the Sims 4, all the while improving skills. Children will now be able to practice vocabulary (improves motor skill); review social studies (increases social skill) and do math problems (improves mental skill).

Teens can now solve algebra problems (increases logic skill); write a fitness article (raises fitness skill); practice creative writing (increases writing skill); and study music theory (improve the guitar skill).

Question: Where is homework located in The Sims 4?

Answer: You can find homework in your Sims’ inventory. Sometimes. Sims will work on it and place it elsewhere. If you lose homework, it can be purchased from a bookshelf for one simoleon, or at a University kiosk for college students.

Question: Can you grade homework in Sims 4?

If you have Sims 4 Discover University installed, you get an opportunity to grade homework if your Sim is in the Education Career. To grade homework, you need to navigate to the Education Career menu. From there, you can access student homework.

Final Thoughts

Knowing how to do homework in the Sims 4 can make your playing experience a lot easier. With the help of skills, and maybe some mods, homework will take up less of your gameplay time, while your Sims still stay top students–if they, and you, so choose.

Some gamers claim that their Sim children get taken away when they get an F from school while others only get the Embarrassed or Sad moodlets . Whatever the case, it’s important that your Sim do their schoolwork.

So, how do you go about it? If you need to know how to do homework in Sims 4, below is an explanation for doing homework in grade school, high school, and university.

How to Do Homework in Sims 4 Base Game

All child and teen sims automatically get homework that can be found in their inventory. It doesn’t matter if you made your Sim in CAS or aged them up. To do homework, it all starts with the homework book.

If you have a child Sim, the homework looks like a thin Math book. It is predominantly yellow with an orange border and several shapes on the front, like a circle and triangles.

To do the homework, simply click on the book in the inventory of your Sim and then click Do Homework. Depending on the skill level of your Sim, this option can also appear as Breeze Through Homework or Dominate Homework.

For teen Sims, the homework looks like a Science book. It is thicker than the child’s homework and is in 2 shades of blue with a DNA drawing on the front. To do the teen’s homework, just click on the book and then Do Homework.

Extra Credit

Once your child or teen Sim gets a B in school, this will unlock the extra credit option in their homework. Once the regular homework is done, there is a choice for them to Do Extra Credit.

Homework Help

If you want to help out your child or teen Sim with their schoolwork, you can have an adult Sim do that. Once your child or teen Sim is already doing the homework, click on the adult Sim and then click on the child or teen Sim where you will find the Help with Homework. Or, you can also have the child or teen Sim click on the adult Sim and Ask for Homework Help.

Missing Homework

On the off-chance that you can’t find the homework in your Sims inventory, you can always purchase one through any computer or bookcase, under the children’s category when ordering books. It only costs $1 so don’t go crazy trying to look for your Sim’s missing homework.

How to Do Homework in Sims 4 University

It’s a whole other world of schoolwork at Sims 4 University. Once your Sim is enrolled, the homework book, which looks like a classic composition notebook with a marbled black and white cover, should appear in the inventory.

Here’s where things get different for your Sim in university. For each term, you can take 1 to 4 classes at a time. For each of these classes, you have to do individual homework. So, when you click on the homework notebook, all of the names of classes taken will appear. Click on the class homework that you want to do.

Unlike teens and children, your Uni Sim needs to do their homework ahead of the class, especially if they want to get an A+. It also takes around 2 hours for one homework to be completed, unless your Sim has a high Research and Debate skill or is in a lot with the Study Spot trait.

When you check your Uni Sim’s schedule, you’ll be able to see the progress of their homework, if it is 50% done, just started, or completed.

How to do homework in Sims 4 is pretty straightforward. Again, just click on the appropriate homework book in your Sim’s inventory, then do the homework. If your Sim misplaces it or there is a glitch, just buy another homework from the computer or bookcase.

Make sure you have the best laptop for Sim4 so you can encounter fewer glitches or problems when it comes to homework and the school progress of your Sims.

How To Earn Scout Badges In The Sims 4: Seasons

Quick links, scouts activity overview, how to join scouts, how to rank up in scouts, all badges and how to earn them.

Before the addition of The Sims 4: Seasons , there wasn't much for your child Sims to do after school. Luckily, that's all changed with the after-school activity of Scouts being added, so your young Sims can have something fun to do with friends instead of being stuck inside doing homework.

The Sims 4: Entrepreneur Skill Explained

Joining the Scouts has plenty of benefits, including gaining skills your Sim will keep through their entire lifetime. With enough work and dedication, your Sim will have plenty of perks and bonuses to enjoy for their entire lives, along with plenty of pretty badges they're able to show off to all of their friends.

Scouts are an after-school activity that children and teenage Sims are able to join. There is no monetary reward for joining the Scouts, but you are able to gain skills like Creative, Fitness, and Fishing. It also is completely free to join the Scouts. Your Sims won't need to pay an entry fee.

Any child or teen Sim is able to join the Scouts , as they are not divided by gender, like the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts. Any other life stage is not able to be a Scout, though, and once your Sim ages out of the Scouts, they are not able to join again.

If you have the Parenthood Game Pack, your Sim can also gain different character values from joining the Scouts, such as manners and responsibility. The Scouts are a great way to gain levels in these attributes.

Much like joining a career with your adult Sims, to join the Scouts all you need to do is have your child or teen Sim open up their phone and choose Business. From there, you can choose to Join after school activity for children or Find a job for teens. You can then choose Scout from the list.

This is similar to how adult Sims join careers. Once your Sim has joined the scouts, they can immediately begin to progress towards earning badges and advancing through the ranks. The more badges they get, the higher they rank in the Scouts.

These are all the available ranks in the Scouts, and how to advance to that rank:

As you can see, no matter your Sim's rank in the Scouts, they will meet at the same time each week . None of the Scout's activities interfere with your Sims going to school, so you can join them even if your Sim isn't doing well in their studies.

The only way to rank up in the Scouts is to earn badges . Badges are earned by completing various activities during your Sims free time, such as repairing items around the house or finding frogs outside. Almost any activity your Sim can do that's positive will help progress them towards a badge.

You do need to perform the different activities multiple times in order to get a badge. This will help your Sim build their skills better, as opposed to getting it immediately upon completing the activity once.

There are nine badges your Sims can earn in total. Here's all of them, along with the activities required to get them, and how many times you need to complete them:

You can check your progress on how close you are to getting a badge at any time at the Scouting Badge Board . You unlock this board as soon you join the Scouts, but you can always buy another one in Buy Mode under Kids > Kids' Activities . The board is only 50 Simoleons to replace.

If your Sim is looking to get a head start on their skills, joining the Scouts is a great way to be rewarded for practicing things your Sim is likely already doing.
