In the Event of Rusty Hopes

Noé is on an airship bound for Paris, where he hopes to find the legendary "Book of Vanitas." He meets a woman named Amelia as the ship nears its destination, and then all hell breaks loose when a mysterious stranger appears. Has Noé's quest found him?

In the City of Flowers

Vanitas and Noé are in a bind until an invitation arrives. At their benefactor's, they find they must prove the "Book of Vanitas" can restore a vampire's true name. They try to secure the necessary proof, only to encounter someone else after the book.

Fangs That Lay Bare Blood

The battle between Vanitas and the Hellfire Witch takes an unexpected turn. Vanitas and Noé return to Count Orlok to learn their fate along with Amelia's. Noé digs deeper into the cause of Amelia's name corruption and goes on a journey with an old friend.

Night of Mocking Masks

The Teacher explains the World Formula theory. Vanitas is put off by Noé and Dominique's relationship. Dominique rakes Vanitas over the coals. Vanitas encounters Jeanne again and reveals himself to the ball guests. Chaos ensues when gate crashers arrive.

Noé's encounter with Charlatan triggers a childhood flashback. His earliest days are revealed, along with Louis' dark secret. Noé grows up surrounded by friends, but an attempt to save one of their inner circle has tragic consequences.

Vanitas comes to the rescue and helps Noé and company battle Charlatan's curse-bearers. Noé questions Vanitas's methods. Some unexpected help arrives when they face another threat. Noé confronts Vanitas, but will it bring them together or tear them apart?

Vanitas and Jeanne's "encounter" during their battle in Paris comes to light. Vanitas offers to keep Jeanne's secret on two conditions. Noé and Vanitas prepare to meet Lord Ruthven. Noé ponders the meaning of love, but Domi throws a wrench into the works.

Where Death Slumbers

The meeting with Lord Ruthven confirms Vanitas's hunch. Vanitas and Noé report back to Count Orlok and hear about a string of vampire abductions. Dante confirms this, which leads them underground. Will they survive their venture into the depths of Paris?

Those Who Hunt Crimson

The battle with Roland is on! Vanitas and Noé flee with the Chasseurs in hot pursuit. Vanitas reveals why he entered the Chasseur's underground domain and how he knows his way around. After an unnecessary amount of drama, Vanitas finds whom he seeks.

Vanitas reunites with Dr. Moreau, who speaks of his work and a powerful backer. Will their reunion be tearful or violent? Vanitas has a flashback to his time with the Vampire of the Blue Moon. Vanitas and Noé try to save a curse-bearer with Roland's help.

Dominique offers Jeanne advice. Jeanne surprises Vanitas with an invitation, and Dominique shadows them. Noé encounters Lord Ruthven, but after their previous meeting, he doesn't know what to expect. Jeanne keeps her promise, and Vanitas makes one to her.

Point of Departure

Jeanne says something that strikes fear into Vanitas. Lord Ruthven makes Noé swear an oath. Olivier is at his wits' end over Roland's obsession. Noé has a consuming thirst. Vanitas hears a certain monster has returned and sets out with Noé to investigate.

The d'Apchiers' Vampire

Noé is taken by Chloé, the witch of the Silver Forest. Noé questions Naenia in the castle while Vanitas and the others go out to look for him.

Noe is forced by Jean-Jacques to drink his blood, leading Noe to see all his revealing memories.

Hands upon a Nightmare

Chloe manages to bring Naenia into her real form but gets corrupted instead. Noe, Vanitas, and the others try to fix the situation while fighting for their lives.

Just the Two of Us

Vanitas manages to save Chloe while trying to perform an inverse operation on her with the help of Noe and Jean-Jacques.

Snow Flower

Vanitas finds a way to save Chloe with the help of Jeanne and Jean-Jacques. However, the outcome might not be the best.

The Incurable Disease

The Book of Vanitas is able to help curse-bearing vampires. There is no known cure for the thirst-bearer.

Noé rushes to act after receiving a disturbing letter. Details about Domi, Louis, and Mikhail's pasts are revealed.

The Case Study of Vanitas , also known as Vanitas no Karte takes us into the enchanting world of Jun Mochizuki, whom you might also know from his shonen manga Pandora Hears. This time around, we're traveling to an alternative, steampunk Paris, inhabited by vampires who mostly live normally among humans – unless they become cursed and attain an unacceptable bloodlust, that is. So, how many episodes will The Case Study of Vanitas have?

In this gorgeously animated series by studio Bones, we encounter an intricate vampire society, mostly through the eyes of Noé Archiviste. The young vampire is looking for the Book of Vanitas, a legendary grimoire, written by a vampire who was hated by his peers due to having been born under a blue instead of a red moon. His curse book is his revenge against vampires, as it tells its users how to corrupt a vampire's true name, causing them to go berserk against their own.

When Noé arrives in Paris, he's shocked to find a said book in the hands of a human, who has inherited Vanitas' name, and his legacy. This new Vanitas is a self-proclaimed doctor of vampires, healing them from the very sickness the grimoire supposedly causes. With the common goal to cure vampires, the two team up. Complicating matters is the fact that Vanitas is really obnoxious and hard to work with, not to mention that he most likely hides sinister secrets.

The anime first started airing this July, and international fans can watch it with English subtitles on Hulu and Funimation , while the English dub has also started airing.

If you check the title out on MyAnimeList, you'll find 12 episodes, which might be disappointed if you can't have enough of the truly magical art style.

Thankfully, this is only half of the story, as Vanitas no Karte is a two- cour anime. This means that the first season will air in two batches of 12, meaning that The Case Study of Vanitas will have a total of 24 episodes. Since the two cours feature as separate entries on the popular anime database, we can assume that this will be a split cour, with the second part skipping a season and airing next winter, rather than next autumn. We can't know for sure yet, but we'll update this space should an announcement be made.

The Case Study Of Vanitas Part 2 - What We Know So Far

On Aug. 6, the English-dubbed version of "The Case Study of Vanitas" arrived at Funimation's website , bringing the steampunk-styled supernatural mystery manga series to life for a whole new audience. The vampire -based anime, set in Paris of the 19th century, is very atmospheric, what with its airships, period clothing and blue-moon and crimson vampires. It starts with the young vampire Noé, who is asked by his teacher to go to Paris to look for the titular book. In an incident on the airship, he meets a girl named Amelia — who turns out to be a vampire named Florifel, who just needs her name returned to her — and blue-eyed Vanitas himself. Vanitas enlists his help in changing the "curse-bearing" vampires back to normal using the grimoire in question. 

"The Case Study of Vanitas" has aired 12 episodes of its split-cour season, which is normal for anime shows — but now leaves fans to wonder when Part 2 will happen, and what will happen going forward, since the series hasn't exactly concluded its plot. If you're one of the fans anxiously awaiting news of the second part of the first season, here's what we know so far.

When is the release date for The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

The @vanitas_anime Twitter account announced on Sept. 17 that the second cour (or quarter of a year) of "The Case Study of Vanitas" is coming in January 2022. This is good news, as it means fans won't have too long to wait:  Anime News and Facts is reporting that the 12 episodes in the second part of the split-cour series will air between Jan. 8 and March 26, 2022. It should be noted that these dates refer to the Japanese release, not the English one. 

However, English-speaking fans shouldn't experience too much of a delay. The initial Japanese run premiered on various channels starting July 2 ( via Anime News Network ), which means it was subtitled with the first episode dubbed by the time it released on Funimation a little over a month later. Comingsoon.com said that Funimation had released five dubbed episodes by September 17 (a paid subscription is required to access the dubbed versions of newer episodes). 

Hopefully, that means U.S. fans will be streaming at least a subtitled second part of Season 1 by springtime.

Who are the characters in The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

The main characters of the series include Noé Archiviste, played in the Japanese by Kaito Ishikawa, and Vanitas (not the original of the book), played by Natsuki Hanae. Supporting characters include Jeanne (Inori Minase), a vampire girl also called the "Hellfire Witch"; Luca (Shino Shimoji), a polite vampire boy ranking just below the queen, who is trying to save his brother; Dominique (Ai Kayano), the aristocratic daughter of the alien lord the Marquis de Sade; Veronica (Yoko Hikasa), Dominique's sister who hates humans; Ruthven (Toshiyuki Morikawa), Luca's uncle and the hero who brokered peace between humans and vampires. 

Others include Dante (Taro Kuichi), Johann (Koji Yusa), and Richie (Riho Kuma), Vanitas' information brokers, and Noé's unnamed teacher (Akira Ishida), the one who sent him to find the book. Vampire Naenia (Kaori Nazuka), vampire hunter Laurent (Kengo Kawanishi), Holy Knight Olivier (Tomoaki Maeno) and Noé's first friend Louis de Sade (Miyuri Shimabukuru) also appear. There's also the cat, Murr (Miyu Komaki). Not all have survived Season 1, though, so they won't necessarily appear in Part 2.

The English dub cast of the series includes Stephen Fu as Noe, Zeo Robinson as Vanitas, Marianne Bray as Murr, Ian Sinclair as Dante, and Hayden Daviau as Amelia. 

What is the plot of The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2?

As the first part of the first season ended, the Beast of Gévaudan has resurfaced, so Noé and Vanitas go to investigate sightings of it. The beast will likely figure largely in the events of the second part of the season, as will Vanitas' relationship with Noé. Viewers may also finally learn the intentions of the secret organization Charlatan because of the big reveal in the end-credits scene. As viewers know, Ruthven figures largely in the plotting that's been going on, and he has hypnotized Noé with Jeanne's unwitting help, which could all blow up in Part 2. Meanwhile, Roland is going through a crisis of faith because he has learned that not all vampires are bad, and the show will no doubt explore the ramifications of that.

"The Case Study of Vanitas" will feature 12 episodes in Season 1 Part 2, making up a total of 24 episodes in the first season. The anime has been rapidly catching up to the manga:  Monsters and Critics predicts that by the 24th episode, the anime will be up to Chapter 43 of the manga. The manga is expected to publish Chapter 61, which means season 2 might be a more difficult sell than the first.
