Three Computer Science Students Succeeded in Becoming Top 20 Product-based Capstone Projects at Bangkit Academy 2023

Bangkit, a program supported by Grow with Google and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), aims to produce high-caliber graduates in the era of information technology advancement. This program is intended for students across Indonesia. Participants of Bangkit can choose from various technology specializations, including Machine Learning, Mobile Development, and Cloud Computing.

The program, which was first introduced in 2022, has graduated more than 2,500 students during the year 2022. In 2023, Bangkit opened registrations for 2 batches in the even semester of 2022-2023 and the odd semester of 2023-2024, with each batch having a registration quota of 4,500 participants, resulting in a total of 9,000 students for the year 2023.

During its implementation, participants must follow each stage of activities prepared by Bangkit. One of the graduation requirements for Bangkit participants is to create a final project. In the final project, participants will be divided into groups of 5-6 students with themes determined by each group. Additionally, each group must consist of a combination of 3 different specializations, namely Mobile Development, Cloud Computing, and Machine Learning.

HIAZEE, a team consisting of 6 members, 3 of whom are students from the Computer Science program, namely Muhammad Zakaria Saputra specializing in Machine Learning, D’Riski Maulana specializing in Cloud Computing, and Novaldi Sandi Ago specializing in Mobile Development, has been selected as one of the top 20 Product-based Capstone Projects at Bangkit Academy in 2023.

HIAZEE is a product that focuses on the themes of Food Accessibility, Agribusiness, Water Forest & Food Security. It all began with the discovery of crucial issues in the e-commerce industry of ornamental plants in Indonesia, such as limited online presence and market access for local cultivators, lack of quality standards and authentication that deter consumers from buying online, as well as logistical complexity and delivery challenges hindering business growth. Furthermore, there is significant potential that can be harnessed from the ornamental plant industry in Indonesia. HIAZEE was created to harness the potential of the ornamental plant industry in Indonesia and address the existing problems in the industry.

“HIAZEE is here to harness the extraordinary potential of Indonesia’s ornamental plant industry, and we are determined to solve existing problems with the innovations we present. One of them is the implementation of machine learning technology for image-based search and automatic titling and categorization on the admin side, which can enhance the quality and shopping convenience for consumers,” said Zakaria.

Zakaria and the other members of the HIAZEE team were given one month after team formation to prepare the product with its main functionalities. After the development phase was completed, all 787 teams went through the first judging stage with a peer-to-peer evaluation system among other groups. Additionally, there was an assessment by judges appointed by Bangkit Academy on the project documentation of each team. HIAZEE successfully passed this selection stage and was chosen as one of the 68 Finalists, getting the opportunity to present their project before 5 expert panelists from the fields of Business, Academic, and Technical during the Final Judging session.

HIAZEE successfully became one of the top 20 Product-Based Capstone projects in the Final Judging session and qualified for an incubation offer with funding worth $10,000 or equivalent to Rp. 140,000,000 to continue and realize the project as the next startup. Apart from funding, the 20 incubated teams will receive guidance from 2 industry advisors (1 in the business field and 1 in the technology field) and 1 mentor from the Bangkit staff.

Additionally, the 20 teams that receive funding must propose 1 faculty advisor from the approved campus for each team. In addition to the advisor and mentor, the 20 incubated teams will also receive upskilling sessions in the business field periodically. The incubation phase will begin from August 2023 until January 2024, with onboarding on August 1, 2023, as the starting point, and the target application will be released to end users by January 2024.

It feels like dreams are coming true. It feels like just yesterday I was watching the “Start-Up” series and dreaming of forming a team like Samsan Tech, and now I have been entrusted to develop a significant project together with the team. One thing I’ve realized is that big dreams may not be achieved quickly, but hard work and perseverance can make things that were once unreal become more and more real. We hope that this incubation will be a crucial stepping stone for our careers, and eventually, HIAZEE can grow and develop into a successful and sustainable company, contributing positively to the growth and development of the ornamental plant industry in Indonesia and benefiting many parties,” said Zakaria regarding his impressions and hopes for HIAZEE.

Congratulations to HIAZEE! There are essential points that we can take from Zakaria and his friends’ success story, that no matter how big our dreams are, they will remain dreams without effort, hard work, and the spirit of never giving up. Let’s pray for the success of the HIAZEE team in preparing their application. Moreover, through this achievement, may it ignite the spirit of students from Computer Science Education and Computer Science study programs to continue creating and pursuing their respective interests.

Universitas Indonesia Supports Student Career Preparation in the Field of Technology through the Bangkit 2023 Program

To support students’ career preparation and competency development in the field of technology, the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) designed a collaborative program Kampus Merdeka with Google, Gojek, Tokopedia, Traveloka, and university partners that provides opportunities for 3,000 selected students. Universitas Indonesia (UI) as one of Kemendikbudristek’s higher education partners supporting the career preparation program, launched the Bangkit 2023 Program for undergraduate or postgraduate students of all majors in Indonesia who want to hone their digital skills.

The Bangkit Google program is one of the Merdeka Belajar activities which is a flagship of the Directorate of General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, for the Certified Independent Study category with a learning load equivalent to 20 Semester Credit Units (SKS) or around 900 cumulative hours. The topics organized to build innovation competencies and expertise in the field of Information Technology consist of three streams , namely: Cloud Computing, Machine Learning (Artificial Intelligence) , and Mobile Computing . These competencies are supported by practitioners from Google in collaboration with its partners including GoTo (Gojek- Tokopedia), Traveloka, and Dicoding. In addition to improving student skills, the Bangkit program also aims to equip students to build their careers in Information Technology through various activities including Capstone Projects, Career Fair , Global Certification, and even start-up funding for selected Capstone project works. Until now, Universitas Indonesia is trusted as the incubation center of a total of 3 start-ups resulting from Capstone Bangkit.

The birth of the Bangkit program began with Google’s interaction with universities, which was then encouraged by the Director General of Diktiristek, which became one of the initial flagships of the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) activity. On various occasions, the Indonesian Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, gave an example of this Bangkit Program as a form of increasing the relevance of industry 4.0 capabilities at the higher education level which was launched in early 2021; and is a program flagship MBKM Dikti which was first held nationally after previously going through the pilot program process in 2020.

After two successful years, the Bangkit 2023 program will increase the capacity and partners of the program, providing a great opportunity for students to build their competencies in information technology with global technology companies such as Google and its partners. However, the level of competition in the Bangkit program will also increase.

There are five benefits that can be obtained by prospective participants by participating in the Bangkit 2023 program; (1) Curriculum and industrial infrastructure; (2) Conversion up to 20 credits; (3) Via career fair , achieve a successful career in IT companies; (4) Global certification from Google; and (5) funds of IDR 140,000,000 and mentors for start up candidates .

The procedures for participating in the Bangkit 2023 Program, especially for Universitas Indonesia students, are (1) Prospective participants visit the CIL website to view information and registration links related to registration for the Bangkit Program (2023) through the website https://cil.ui.ac.id/ ; (2) After the prospective participants access the link on the http://registration.bangkit.academy/ UI CIL Website, the prospective participants can get the complete information and registration guidance related to the Bangkit 2023 Program.

The registration process for the Bangkit 2023 program includes; (1) Registering yourself with the details needed to verify the eligibility of prospective participants; (2) Re-register and send a letter of commitment, prospective participants who have met the requirements will receive an email containing an administrative template and instructions to be sent; (3) Take an assessment test by accessing technology and personality tests after completing the administrative steps; (4) Register on the Merdeka Campus platform to complete registration; (5) After completing registration, prospective participants are expected to wait for the announcement by checking email for further information regarding registration results, next steps, and important dates from the Bangkit team.

Based on the implementation of the Bangkit Program in the previous year, the Director of the Center for Independent Learning (CIL) UI, F. Astha Ekadiyanto, S.T., M.Sc. said, “The number of applicants nationally continues to increase from 28,738 applicants (2021), to 48,720 applicants (2022). This means that it can be estimated that the 2023 Bangkit Program registrants will double at least twice as much as last year. Meanwhile, applicants from UI (2022) reached more than 1,000 students, which is among the universities with the most applicants and accepted approximately 141 students. It is expected that in the 2023 Bangkit Program the number of applicants and accepted, especially from the University of Indonesia, in the program can continue to increase,” said Astha.

Bangkit 2023 Batch 2: Mulai Karier Teknologimu dari Sini!

Setelah sukses melatih lebih dari 5.000 lulusan sejak 2020 dan tengah mempersiapkan kelahiran 5.000 talenta digital lainnya, Bangkit kembali pada paruh kedua tahun 2023. Program ini berada di bawah naungan Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi. Selain itu, dirancang khusus oleh Google dan didukung penuh oleh GoTo dan Traveloka, program ini hadir dengan nama Bangkit 2023 Batch 2.

Siklus kelima dari program yang terafiliasi dengan Kampus Merdeka – Studi Independen Bersertifikat (SIB) ini setara dengan 20 SKS. Bangkit pun akan berlangsung secara daring selama 20 minggu atau lebih dari 900 jam belajar pada semester ganjil tahun 2023. Sebanyak 4.000 peserta terbaik akan dipilih untuk menjadi bagian dari Bangkit 2023 Batch 2.

Selama mengikuti Bangkit, para peserta akan mendalami satu dari tiga pilihan keahlian teknologi berorientasi karier. Ketiga pilihan tersebut adalah Machine Learning with TensorFlow, Mobile Development with Android, dan Cloud Computing with Google Cloud. Dalam menjalani proses belajar di Bangkit, para peserta akan berada di bawah bimbingan para ahli teknologi dan startup Indonesia kelas dunia. Untuk menjadikan para peserta talenta digital berdaya saing global, fasilitas sertifikasi global dari Google pun akan diberikan secara gratis, mencakup salah satu dari ketiga learning path di atas.

Bangkit 2023 Batch 2 Dilengkapi dengan Materi Pendukung seperti Soft Skills dan Bahasa Inggris

Selain ilmu teknologi yang relevan dengan kebutuhan industri masa kini, Bangkit akan membekali mahasiswa dengan keterampilan pelengkap berupa soft skills dan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris. Peserta akan diajarkan tentang critical thinking , digital branding & interview communication , time management , professional communication , adaptability , idea generation and MVP planning , serta startup valuation . Untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris, peserta akan mempelajari spoken correspondence , expressing opinion , dan business presentation .

Pada akhir program, peserta akan mengerjakan proyek akhir atau capstone project secara berkelompok, yaitu 15 tim terbaik akan mendapatkan pendanaan serta pengembangan lebih lanjut untuk menjadi sebuah startup . Tim-tim terbaik ini akan meraih dana inkubasi dari Google dan Dikti sampai dengan 140 juta rupiah. Selain itu, mereka akan dibimbing oleh mentor dari industri terkait dan didampingi oleh universitas mitra Bangkit. Sebagai informasi, selama mengikuti program ini, peserta tidak akan mendapat uang saku.

Kesempatan Ikut Bangkit Virtual Career Fair setelah Lulus

Tidak berhenti sampai di situ, para lulusan akan mendapatkan manfaat lain setelah selesai menjalani program Bangkit. Mereka akan diundang untuk berpartisipasi dalam Bangkit Virtual Career Fair. Ini menjadi peluang bagi lulusan untuk memulai karier dengan sukses di perusahaan teknologi ternama. Bursa kerja ini akan menghadirkan sejumlah perusahaan terkemuka di Indonesia yang menjadi mitra Bangkit yang menawarkan beragam posisi, baik full-time maupun intern .

Sampai dengan 2022 lalu, Bangkit Virtual Career Fair menghadirkan 108 perusahaan yang menawarkan 2.300 pekerjaan untuk semua lulusan Bangkit.

Untuk mengikuti program ini, peserta harus memenuhi syarat sebagai berikut.

• Mahasiswa berstatus aktif setara D3/D4/S1.
• Berasal dari universitas negeri dan swasta di seluruh Indonesia yang terdaftar pada PDDikti .
• Bagi mahasiswa setingkat D3, mahasiswa sedang menempuh minimal semester 4 saat program Bangkit 2023 Batch 2 dimulai.
• Bagi mahasiswa setingkat D4/S1, mahasiswa sedang menempuh minimal semester 5 saat program Bangkit 2023 Batch 2 dimulai.
• Berasal dari jurusan apa pun, termasuk jurusan non-IT dan non-teknik.
• Belum akan dinyatakan lulus dari universitas per Januari 2024 mendatang.

Bangkit adalah langkah awal terbaik untuk mengembangkan diri dan memulai karier dalam bidang teknologi. Program ini terbuka untuk semua kalangan mahasiswa Indonesia, apa pun latar belakangnya.
