The Best Reading Comprehension Practice Workbooks for Grades 3+
Expand your child’s skills to help them succeed in a number of subjects..
While it can sound dry, reading comprehension skills are the reason to read, helping kids to understand what they read, process it, and make larger connections. These are the skills that can make reading truly magical and transporting.
Around third grade, kids start to transition from learning to read, to reading to learn. This exciting transition makes reading comprehensions skills more crucial than ever. What’s more, having a solid grasp of reading comprehension can also help grow a child’s love of reading. (After all, reading is far more enjoyable when you fully understand what you're reading!)
Plus, for readers 6-10, check out these 6 tips you can implement today to build reading comprehension skills .
According to the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report , overall, when it comes to reading enjoyment and importance, at least half of all kids ages 6–17 say they like a lot or love reading for fun (56 percent) and think it's extremely important to read for fun (50 percent). These are great sentiments to preserve in growing readers.
With the right resources, boosting your reader's reading comprehension skills is easy and fun. These fantastic workbooks give growing learners in 3rd grade and above practice with main ideas and details, making inferences, following directions, drawing conclusions, summarizing, differentiating between fact and opinion, and far more. They are great supplements to what your kids are learning in class, and will give them the reading comprehension practice they need to build confidence and a true love of reading.
In addition, families can also consider supporting readers by building their writing skills. Encourage them to practice the work in their own writing that mirrors what they are being asked to understand in their reading.
To continue building skills, find out why this line of workbooks under $7 is so popular.
Of course, these skills will not only benefit them in language arts classes, but also in STEM subjects like math or science. Because reading comprehension is a main pillar of school success in a number of ways, working on improving these skills will always pay off.

The Impact of Take-Home Books
Four decades of research with children of all ages, in varied socioeconomic and cultural groups, reveal that access to books in the home is one of the strongest predictors of educational achievement.
Just 5 Books ...
Reading just five books during the summer can prevent a decline in reading achievement when returning to school
25 Books ...
A child who has at least 25 books in their home will, on average, complete two more years of school than a child from a home without any books at all
40 Books ...
When second-graders were given 40 carefully selected books for their home libraries, their fluency improved, and parents reported increased time spent reading at home.
