India develops virtual museum to tell gallantry award winners tales
NEW DELHI: India has developed a virtual museum to bring together the stories of commitment and sacrifice of the gallantry awards winners in an innovative and user-friendly format.
Minister of State (Defence) Ajay Bhatt, inaugurated an interactive Virtual Museum hosted by the Gallantry Awards portal on Thursday.
The virtual museum brings together the stories of commitment and sacrifice of the gallantry awards winners in an innovative and user-friendly format. It comprises a 3-D walk-through experience, gallery building, lobby, wall of fame, a tour of war memorials, war room, resource center, selfie booth and equipment display, etc.
The Virtual Museum has been jointly developed by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics, as part of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' commemorating 75 years of Independence.
Appreciating the efforts of the Ministry, SIDM, and all other stakeholders, Bhatt said, the virtual museum will honor the contribution of the country's Bravehearts who have made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation and bring their stories to the people, especially the youth.
He expressed confidence that the virtual museum will encourage more and more people to visit the Gallantry awards portal and inspire the youth to come forward and join the Armed Forces.
Bhatt stressed that soldiers are role models who spread the message of patriotism among the younger generation and lead them on the path to success.
He lauded SIDM, for promoting indigenous R&D and manufacturing defence equipment, adding that it is playing an important role in achieving 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat', as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking on the occasion, Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar congratulated SIDM and all other stakeholders for developing the virtual museum in a short span of time.
He expressed confidence that the museum will go a long way in promoting the objective of the Gallantry awards portal which is to raise awareness among the youth about the sacrifices and brave deeds of the country's bravehearts.
Kumar made special mention of the Veer Gatha project, one of the initiatives of MoD as part of Republic Day Celebrations 2022, organised by the Gallantry awards portal and Ministry of Education. Over eight lakh students across the country participated in the initiative and shared their inspirational stories through essays, poems, drawings, and multimedia presentations.

An archive of inspirational videos and equipment exhibition is also a part of the museum.
The selfie booth provides an opportunity to the visitors to click a selfie with the background image of their choice out of the huge library available on the portal.
The MoD had conceptualised and developed the Gallantry Awards Portal to honor the contribution of the soldiers in the service of the motherland and bring their stories to the citizens.
In 2017, Modi had inaugurated the project to acknowledge the bravery and sacrifice of the award winners and felicitate them.
The revamped version of the portal, with multiple new features, including allowing citizens to express their patriotism in the form of tributes and pledges and participate in quizzes and events was launched by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in 2021.

Veer Gatha Project of CBSE to Celebrate Gallantry Award Winners
India has produced many patriots who have served the country in different capacities. These real-life heroes have always placed the interests of the nation above their own lives. To honour such brave hearts, the government of India has instituted Gallantry Awards which are given twice a year. Sadly, most of the citizens are unaware of their bravery. To spread awareness among the students about the inspiring deeds and bravery of such people, Veer Gatha Project was launched collaboratively by the Ministry of Education, the Department of School Education and Literacy, and the Ministry of Defence.
This project commenced on October 21, 2021 and will go on till November 20, 2021. As per a circular issued by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) on October 14, 2021, it is especially for the students from grades 3 to 12. The purpose of this project is to honour the courage and sacrifices of the “officers/personnel of the Armed Forces, other lawfully-constituted Forces and Civilians”.
According to the circular, various activities have been planned for the students of different classes. They are required to write a poem or paragraph or to paint a picture. Students of grades 3 to 5 are required to write 150 words, which increases to 300 words for grades 6 to 8 students, 750 words for grades 9 and 10, and 1000 words for grades 10 and 12 students. Students of grade 6 onwards will need to use multimedia presentation as well. Two topics provided are-
1) ‘If I had been (name of the Gallantry Award winner), what would I have done for my nation?’
2) ‘(Name of the Gallantry Award winner) motivates me to …’
Schools will be conducting the activities during these dates, and upload one best entry from each category on CBSE’s Veer Gatha portal between 1st and 30th November, limited to four entries per school. Six entries from each category and seven from the category of grades 11 and 12 will be selected for a cash prize of Rs 10,000 along with the invitation to the 2022 Republic Day celebrations in Delhi.

CBSE Veer Gatha Project to celebrate Gallantry Award winners starts today. This is how schools can participate
India has given birth to several bravehearts who have placed the nation above their own life and served her in various capacities. Such real-life heroes are honoured with Gallantry Awards, instituted by the Government of India, and are given away twice a year. But how many of us know about their bravery? To make students more aware of these inspiring stories, the Ministry of Education, Department of School Education and Literacy, along with the Ministry of Defence, launched the Veer Gatha Project and it commences from today, October 21. Specifically for students from Classes III to XII, this project honours the sacrifices and acts of courage of the âofficers/personnel of the Armed Forces, other lawfully-constituted Forces and Civiliansâ, as per a circular issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on October 14 for those schools who are affiliated to the Board. The project will go on till November 20, 2021. As per the circular, students from Classes III to V will be required to write a poem or a paragraph of 150 words or paint a picture, while Classes VI to VIII can do the same but in 300 words and use multimedia presentation as well, Classes IX and X can go up to 750 words and Classes XI and XII can touch 1,000 words. There are two topics that remain the same across the board â 'If I had been (Name of the Gallantry Award winner), what would I have done for my nation?' and '(Name of the Gallantry Award winner) motivates me to...'. Between October 21 to November 20, 2021, schools have been instructed to conduct the activities and between November 1 and 30, they have been asked to upload one best entry from each category (totally, no more than four entries per school) and upload it on the CBSE's Veer Gatha portal. As many as 25 best entries (six from each category and seven from the Class XI to XII category) will be selected. The winners will be awarded a cash prize Rs 10,000 and invited to the 2022 Republic Day celebrations in Delhi. What a prize to win!
