Though that stance is right on the money when it comes to hatred, Lombroso ...

Predominantly, in this case, the universal struggle against the inevitability of death. Like most of us, I'd wager, White Noise's characters are afraid of death-and this film was perhaps born of the same fear. A Quiet Place: Day One movie review (2024)
Sarnoski's film informs us that NYC is regularly 90 decibels, setting the stage for a movie about how a city filled with that much hustle and bustle stays quiet. But this isn't that movie. FWIW, today's paper version of the Sun-Times (Ebert's home paper) has a review of "White Noise" done by Bill Zwecker while Ebert does the other movies coming out today. That sucks if the movie's terrible, because that's about the most well put-together trailer I've seen in quite a while.
