Importance of Elephants

Elephants come in the group of most intelligent creatures. They are capable of quite strong emotions. These creatures have earned the respect of people of Africa that share the landscape with them. This gives them a great cultural significance. Elephants are tourism magnets for mankind. In addition, they also play a great role in maintaining the biodiversity of the ecosystems.

Most importantly, elephants are also significant for wildlife. They dig for water in the dry season with their tusks. It helps them survive the dry environment and droughts and also helps other animals to survive.

In addition, the elephants of the forest create gaps in the vegetation while eating. The gaps created enables the growth of new plants as well as pathways for smaller animals. This method also helps in dispersal of seeds by trees.

Furthermore, even elephant dung is beneficial. The dung they leave contains seeds of plants they have consumed. This, in turn, helps the birth of new grasses, bushes, and even trees. Thus, they also boost the health of the savannah ecosystem.

Endangerment of Elephants

Elephants have found their way on the list of endangered species. Selfish human activities have caused this endangerment. One of the biggest reasons for their endangerment is the illegal killing of elephants. As their body parts are very profitable, humans kill them off for their skin, bones, tusks, and more.

Moreover, humans are wiping out the natural habitat of elephants i.e. the forests. This results in a lack of food, area to live, and resources to survive. Similarly, hunting and poaching just for the thrill of it also cause the death of elephants.

Therefore, we see how humans are the main reason behind their endangerment. In other words, we must educate the public about the importance of elephants. Conservation efforts must be taken aggressively to protect them. In addition, poachers must be arrested to stop killing of the endangered species.

A zoo is a place where animals and birds are kept for public display. We, the three friends, went to the Alipore Zoo, Kolkata. We saw two elephants, tied with iron chains by their hind legs. The visitors offered them bananas or nuts which they gladly accepted and swallowed. We were greatly amused to see the huge animals from so near.

Then we visited the bird’s section. There were hundreds of birds. They were of various colours and had lovely plumage (feathers). Their chirping produced soft music. The twittering of sparrows was very pleasant to the ear. At some distance, there was a big pool of water. Many ducks and swans were swimming gracefully in it. We also saw a tank which contained small fishes of fine colours.

Then we came to the cages of tigers, panthers, leopards and lions. They were wonderful. The serpent house gave us a new experience. We saw there various types of snakes on the first floor. Then we saw the bisons, the camels, the ostriches and the bats. The zebras and giraffes were really beautiful who looked innocent and friendly.

A Visit To A Zoo is very thrilling. I went to see the zoo with my younger brother. One is surprised to see such a variety of animals and birds. It was an interesting sight. First of all, we saw the monkeys. They were of many kinds and very amusing. We offered some nuts to them.

Then we came to the lions. They looked very fierce and majestic. They were kept in an open place enclosed with high iron railings. Sometimes they roared terribly. Next, we saw the tigers. They had yellow skins with black stripes on them. In the next two cages, there were a wolf and a fox. The wolf was sleeping, but the fox was walking within the cage.

After this, we came to the glass houses where reptiles were kept. There were snakes, cobras, and serpents. Some of them looked fearful. We did not stay there long.

a visit to a zoo

Essay on a Visit to a Zoo: 500 Words

Introduction:.

Everyone needs relaxation and an occasional deviation from the drudgeries of daily existence. A visit to a zoo can offer him these. At the same time, it is a learning experience. It was with this intention that visited the Alipore Zoological Garden last 25th December with some of my friends. This visit was memorable because it was both enjoyable and educational.

Entering the Zoo:

We reached the gate of the zoo in a taxi around 10 am. One has to buy tickets to enter the zoo. A number of visitors were already standing in a queue before the ticket counter. We stood behind them, got our tickets and entered the big arena of the zoo.

Various Types of Birds and Animals:

We crossed the green sward and were greeted by varieties of monkeys in cages. Monkeys and baboons were jumping on the trees within their enclosures. When some people threw food at them, they immediately jumped down from the trees to eat. Some children were making faces at them.

Then, we came across a beautiful lake in which some water birds like ducks and swans were present. There were some migratory birds as well. As we moved, we came to the big netted enclosure in which birds were kept. There were sparrows, parrots, and many other birds. Most of them were twittering, chirping and whistling. But the owls were sitting with their eyes closed as if they were lost in deep thought. The chirping of the birds went on ringing deep in my heart. In their songs, I heard the voice of nature to which the whole universe surrendered. I felt that all was right with the world.

We visited the tigers, lions, zebras, giraffes, rhinos and elephants. Roars of the lions and the tigers were deafening. We found a tiger pacing restlessly with its bloodshot eyes. It was strongly built.

Then we came across a garden in which stags and deer were frisking about. These animals were very agile and beautiful.

Our next halt was at the aquarium section. There were fishes of many species and colours. To see them swimming to and fro in the water was really a rewarding experience. Just beside this enclosure, was the cage of a black bear. It attracted a mammoth gathering. The bear was playing many tricks that thrilled us. Some people offered it eatables which it gulped at once.

Leaving the Zoo:

At about 2 pm, feeling tired, we rested and relaxed on the grassy ground for half an hour. The fragrance of flowers coming from somewhere was really soothing. We again began to stroll around the zoo after having our lunch. We saw a variety of amphibians like crocodiles, snakes, frogs, and a variety of other creatures. Then we hired a boat and enjoyed a short pleasurable ride in the canal. It was around 5 pm when we came out of the zoo. We boarded a bus, casting our last and lingering look on the zoo.

Conclusion:

I reached home in a cheerful mood. This visit refreshed my mind and deepened my awareness of the animal world.

The zoo is a fascinating topic to write about. Here is a paragraph for children that describes all about the zoo.

A zoo is a place full of unique creatures living in one area away from the forest. Last year, my family planned a visit to the zoo. When we got there, we found different animals and birds living their lives in peaceful surroundings with regular food and proper shelter. We learned about the shelters of the animals and what they eat. We also saw various birds and reptiles swinging and roaming in a specific place. We had a delightful day, and we left the zoo in the evening.

Kids in the junior classes will be asked to write a short paragraph on this topic. Here is an example for your reference.

My school planned a visit to the zoo last Sunday. I was very excited to explore nature and wildlife. I found various animals, reptiles, mammals, fishes, and birds when I got there. I saw how long the giraffes were and how big the elephants seemed to be. I had never experienced this before. It was my best trip to the zoo ever. I saw monkeys eating bananas and deer running so fast in the field. I learned that crocodiles stay in one place for a long time, searching for their prey. I heard the soothing voices of birds. This was my best experience, and I want to revisit this amazing place.

If you want to write an essay for class 3 on zoos, the below-written essay can help you frame the same.

My school was planning a trip to take us to the zoo. They asked my parent’s permission, and fortunately, they agreed. Everything was organised, and the trip was scheduled for next Sunday morning. The day arrived very soon, and I boarded my school bus, which came to pick me up for the trip. It was a bright Sunday morning, and with a cheerful smile, I continued my day. Teachers already explained to us about the zoo. And this made me more excited.

Finally, around 9 a.m., we arrived at the zoo. When we entered inside, we saw the deer running in their field. Moving forward, we saw giraffes, tigers, lions, leopards, bears, different kinds of horses, etc. We then went to the birds’ section. All types of birds were there. All of them were singing and dancing in the trees. We also saw monkeys and baboons hanging on the giant trees. In the end section of the zoo, we found a small pond full of fish. There was also a museum for aquatic animals, such as dolphins and starfish.

Coming our way back to the exit, we saw snakes and cobras swinging in their specific area. The entire zoo was decorated with flowers and was full of greenery everywhere. It was a beautiful view to watch. Around 6 p.m., we reached home safely with a heart and mind full of happy memories. Hence, the trip to the zoo was my best experience, as I learned a lot of things about animals and birds.

A zoo is undoubtedly a place of wonder and has its own advantages and disadvantages. The zoo not only teaches you about different kinds of creatures, but it also helps you realise the importance of wildlife. It gives you lovely memories that can be incorporated into a composition on a visit to a zoo.

  • A zoo requires proper maintenance and cleanliness for the well-being of the creatures there.
  • It attracts many tourists to see the wildlife heritage of one’s country.
  • The word ‘zoo’ is derived from the Greek word ‘zoion’. It is an abbreviation of zoological gardens, specifically applied to the Regent’s Park, London, in the mid 19’s.
  • It protects various endangered animals.
  • It proves to be one of the economic resources for the country.
  • A zoo is not a natural habitat for animals, even if they are born there.
  • Zoo animals are often trained to entertain viewers.
  • Many zoos allow you to adopt animals. You can pay to feed them for a certain period of time.

The zoo is undoubtedly a good source of entertainment for adults and kids. Not only this, it also attracts lots of tourists to see the wildlife heritage of a country. This makes the zoo attractive and one of the best places to visit. So, give your kids an assignment to write an essay on a visit to the zoo, and see what they think of it.

Short Essay on Elephant in 100 Words

An elephant is one of the most important herbivorous animals. It has a mighty and huge body with giant limbs and a long trunk, a tail, and tusks. Elephants generally thrive on plants, fruits, vegetables, bamboos, and also sugarcane. It is a wonderful carrier of both materials and humans from one palace to another. An elephant is a quiet animal, and hence an easy preference for human utility.

Elephants are found in several parts of the world, especially Asia, Africa, and also parts of Europe. Elephants are markers of companionship and strength as well. In Hindu mythology, the most prominent gods like Ganesha and Lord Indra are associated with this animal. On auspicious occasions signs of elephants mark virtue. As a wild yet peaceful animal, an elephant is thus important.

Short Essay on Elephant in 200 Words

An elephant is a widely known herbivore found in almost every part of the world. They generally live in herds consisting of a large number of members of their family. The forest is their best habitat. It thrives well on plants, sugarcane, bamboo, and other fruits and vegetables. The physical structure of the elephant is more magnificent, It has a huge ash-coloured body, with thick and strong limbs, and long trunk, two tusks, and a tail. The trunk enables it to drink water and also tear fruits from trees. In Asia, Africa, and also parts of Europe, elephants are abundant.

Presently the number of elephants has declined due to excessive hunting. Elephant skin and tusk have great demand in markets for making many luxurious products which bring ample money to the poachers. But this aggression of people has resulted in the steady decline of the animals. There are hardly any elephants left in the forests. Also, many elephants are dying every day for the railways constructed mid-ways through their forest pathways.

Human gluttony to have more capitalist gains has destroyed all forests and no habitat is left for these innocent animals. Thus today we can observe how the balance of the ecosystem is getting hampered due to the liss of one of the most important components of the food chain. Elephants are marks of prosperity and hence we must preserve them in parks, forests, and zoos.

Short Essay on Elephant in 400 Words

We have often seen how Lord Ganesha has the face of an elephant and Lord Indra uses the elephant as his vehicle. Questions arise as to why the elephant is such an important creature to consider it even as an object of worship. The answer lies in the physical magnanimity and the active participation of an elephant in several tasks it can perform for humans.

An elephant is a widely available wild animal found in several parts of the world like the forests of Asia, Africa, and also parts of Europe as well. It is a herbivore generally feeding upon plants, fruits, vegetables, bamboos, and sugarcane. The body of an elephant is huge with strong limbs, a long trunk, and two tusks. The elephant uses the trunk to drink, feed itself, and also carry logs for longer distances.

Elephants are mainly used for carriers and are the best ride for tourists to visit the forests. On several counts, elephants are regal animals, whereas, in the olden days, kings used to take rides on their backs and go hunting. In fact, elephant tusks are great sources of ivory. As an important component of the food chain, elephants balance the ecosystem.

In Hindu myths, the usefulness of an elephant is widely renowned on several accounts. Lord Ganesha has the head of an elephant, Lord Indra rides on the elephant’s back. The Mahabharata was composed of the tusk of an elephant that Ganesha severed from his face, the goddess Laxmi is assisted by two elephants as the immediate markers of prosperity, Goddess Jagadhatri carries an elephant at her feet to suppress all evils and vices. Thus elephants are auspicious figures for Hindus, who keep small murals of them to bring in prosperity and peace. An elephant is not seen as a ferocious beast but more as a timid animal that can be easily domesticated.

But presently, due to excessive hunting and unbridled poaching of elephants, their numbers have rapidly declined. The cost of elephant tusks and skin are of immense value in the indigenous as well as the foreign market. They bring huge profits to the sellers. Also due to excessive human desire to increase urbanization, railways are being constructed for connections and tremendous deforestation is taking place.

Thus many elephants are losing their lives and their habitats as well. So they are entering into human localities and are getting killed for their helplessness. Due to this preservation of elephants is taking place in zoos, parks, and forests as well to keep the wildlife intact. It is our duty to preserve every ounce of the ecosystem safe so as to continue the life cycle properly on earth.

Essay on Elephant | Few Sentence About Giant Animal

January 1, 2018 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Elephant is the biggest of all the surviving terrestrial mammals on Earth. It can easily be spotted by its huge body size; whether in a zoo or in wild, we can easily find them. Elephant is a very popular animal and is liked and loved by one and all, especially children like them a lot.

Although it is a huge creature still it is very tender by nature, and can befriend us very easily. If we offer our unconditional love to them, they can prove to be friends for life. Like humans they are also very sensitive.

They express their feelings by way of different gestures; they greet us by lifting their trunk up, show their agreement or disagreement by way of swinging their big fan-like ears, and trumpeting in a high pitch.

Elephant, especially in Indian tradition has been considered a symbol of royalty. Since the ages of Rajas & Maharajas, elephant has been symbolizing wealth and riches. And because of this reason, they used to be decorated beautifully.

They have also been actively associated with the wars in ancient times. A soldier mounted on an elephant had an edge over others, as he was better placed to look over the battlefield. This would help him to follow a better strategy.

Despite being so giant in size it is strictly an herbivores animal. Although hard to believe, but it’s true. Elephant eat green leaves, fresh twigs (small and newly developed branches of a tree), wild fruits etc. A herd or group of elephants is called “PARADE”.

They are very playful while in water. They love eating bananas a lot. Elephant is also the “HERITAGE ANIMAL” of India, as declared by Government of India.

Evolution, Anatomy & Habit of the Elephant

elephant essay

The tusks of an elephant are Incisors only (corner teeth of the upper jaw) which have grown to become tusk, during the stages of evolution. Same is the case with trunk of the elephant.

Trunk is hollow from inside. According to scientists, nose and upper lip of the elephant got merged during evolutionary phases, to create this novel feature called “Trunk”.

This feature evolved out of the need to get food. And, to get food elephants have to tear down leaf-bunches and twigs, located high. This job needed a heighted physical feature.

And thereby, trunk got evolved. Elephants use their trunk to tear down leaves, fruits, twigs etc., fill water in it and pouring it into the mouth by coiling the trunk inside, carry loads, dig out water of mud, etc.

They have a tough and thick skin, generally 2-2.5 cm thick. But, despite being thick it’s very sensitive, and can get cracked if not smeared with mud, periodically. This is the reason elephants love to be surrounded by water and mud, which keeps them cool, and their skin hydrated.

Elephants can grow up to the height of 2.5 meters to 3.0 meters and weigh from 3,000 kg to 6,000 kg. Because of their heavy weight body size, they walk very slowly and for this reason, a person having slow pace is compared with slow walking speed of the elephant.

Presently there are two existing species of elephants.

A). African Elephant (it has two sub-species – African Bush Elephant & African Forest Elephant), and

B). Asian Elephant

African (bush) elephant is biggest of all the other surviving species of elephants and lives in the hottest climate of (sub-Saharan) Africa.

Elephants have very impressive memory when it comes to recalling the directions and routes they usually follow to get water and food. They can smell and sense the existence of water at a particular place from miles away!

Elephants follow a matriarchal family structure. The oldest surviving female member of the “PARADE” leads the group. She is the one who is responsible for safety of the “Parade” and searching water & food as well. Similar to human beings, elephants are also very social. They tend to keep good relations not only with the humans but with other “PARADES” also.

Coming to their habitat, they are found from grasslands of Savanna to the deserts to marshy lands of Asia and Southeast Asia.

Elephant in Ancient Mythologies & Popular Culture

elephant family

CULTURE & TRADITION : They are the most prominent and impressive feature of the Mysore Dussehra festivities. Tourists come from faraway lands to watch their grandeur there. Elephants are also important part of other temple festivals in south India. And they remain lifelong at the temple premise only.

In cinemas also they have been ruling human hearts by their roles in the Rajesh Khanna- starrer “Hathi Mere Saathi” and recently released blockbuster movie  “BAHUBALI – THE CONCLUSION”.

ENTERTAINMENT : They have also been entertaining us for ages by their acrobatics in Circuses. Children enjoy having  fun when they get a chance to ride over an elephant and watching them in zoos.

Danger to their Survival

The biggest harm to the survival of elephants is posed by illegal hunting and poaching of them, mainly for their ivory tusks. Their tusks remain in high demand always. As it has manifold uses like, in preparing various traditional medicines, Jewellery, ornaments, and fashion accessories, and simply for home decoration purposes.

The second most important factor affecting their survival is habitat destruction, which leads to the third factor that is, human – animal conflict. Due to clearing of forests for agriculture or housing purposes, these animals are pushed to the edges of forests. There they have to encounter humans, which often leads to casualties for both.

And, because of this they sometimes get aggressive and offensive against us. This may result into ramming the standing crops down, hitting the individuals, sabotaging their dwellings etc.

Conclusion

Elephant has proved to be a good and kind companion to human being. It has a very special place whether it’s the environment, mythology or traditions. Considering these factors now it’s our turn to pay them back for their services and affection they have been giving us.

For this, first of all we must sensitize ourselves towards their needs. Then, ensuring their existence in natural, and encroachment-free habitat and thereby, minimizing human-animal conflicts.

And it’s really good to mention that commendable steps are being taken in these directions by the government and individuals both. Some of them are; notifying certain natural areas as “ ELEPHANT RESERVES ”; starting “PROJECT ELEPHANT” in the year 1992 to ensure their safe survival in the backdrop of widespread poaching activities. Further, declaring it as “Heritage animal” has given the elephant its due importance.

Essay on A Visit To The Zoo

A zoo is a place where different kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fishes are kept in cages or enclosed areas for people to see. It needs a lot of land to be taken care of. Below is an essay about visiting a zoo in simple English. It has short sentences so students can understand it easily. After reading this essay, students can write their own paragraph about visiting a zoo.

Descriptive Essay on A Visit to a Zoo

Most people can't easily go to far-off jungles or well-known national parks to see different animals. It's tough to find all those animals in their own homes. Plus, taking kids on a safari in the forest is risky to see animals, birds, and reptiles. That's why many people like going to the zoo. It's a fun and safe way to see all kinds of animals.

There is a wide variety of animals, birds, and beasts that are kept in cages in a zoo. Zoo also keeps animals of rare species. Many animals and birds are brought from foreign lands. This gives the visitors an opportunity to watch such animals and birds of rare species brought from foreign lands, which they could have never seen otherwise.

Zoos are like homes for animals from all around the world. Lions from Africa, kangaroos from Australia, gorillas, chimpanzees, zebras, white tigers, white peacocks, polar bears, colorful parrots, big pythons, and giant crocodiles – they all live in zoos. These places are important because they help protect animals that might disappear forever.

Almost a thousand types of animals, birds, and beasts stay in zoos. Some zoos even help animals have babies in a safe place, called captive breeding. This helps save species that are in danger, so they don't disappear forever. Zoos play a big role in making sure these amazing creatures continue to exist.

These zoos and their maintenance actually show that mankind has an immense love for animals. Man cannot ignore the fact that these animals, birds, reptiles, and beasts are a part of nature. People get to see the variety of animals that exist on this earth. People get to interact, learn and grow with these species of animals.

Visiting a zoo brings human beings closer to these living beings. It makes human beings develop a liking for animals and birds. They get to learn so much about these animals too. Zoos have an aspect of geographical importance as well. They play a vital role in uniting and educating different communities. When we as visitors watch a species of an animal brought from a foreign land, we get to learn about how and where these animals live, about the climate, and the habitat in which they thrive naturally.

The maintenance of a zoo is a huge task. Animals, birds, reptiles, and fishes, from foreign lands with different climatic conditions are to be kept in such surroundings, climate, and temperature that matches that of their natural habitat. If that arrangement is not done properly these animals would not survive. In hot summers, tigers and lions require access to water to keep cool. A gorilla or chimpanzee requires trees and lush green areas to roam.

All these animals also need to be fed according to their original tastes and appetites. A leopard, a lion, or a tiger has to be served its due quantity of raw meat for every meal. A gorilla or a monkey should be served a vegetarian diet. There are some animals that are to be fed with fish. The python is capable of devouring a whole goat and so, it should be fed accordingly, without harming any other living being around it.

Going to the zoo is not just enjoyable; it's a great way to learn. Zoos teach us a ton about how different animals live and what they like. To make sure the animals stay healthy, the zoo has its own medical team and animal doctors. These doctors are well-trained and really good at their job. Animals at the zoo can get sick, and if their illnesses spread, it could be really bad for the whole zoo. Sometimes, the animals even need big surgeries and treatments to get better. So, keeping everything in good shape is really important at a zoo.

We visitors, at times, cause a great deal of risk to the lives of these animals and birds. Out of excitement, to feed the animals, we throw food in plastic bags to the animals inside their cages. The animals tend to swallow the plastic bags along with the food. The plastic gets stuck in their intestines and causes serious problems, and can even result in death sometimes. Along with this, to get some entertainment, the visitors sometimes risk their own lives. Out of curiosity, the visitors try playing around with wild animals, which, if triggered, can become violent.

The visitors coming to zoos, mainly children, should be properly oriented and refrain from such activities. The zoo authorities also have to take care of the mental health of the animals. The animals may develop stereotypic behaviors or even die prematurely if not taken care of properly. Thus, zoological parks help us learn, grow and have fun. They help us bring human beings closer to nature. We get to understand and live God's beautiful creations through these parks.

Short on a Visit to a Zoo Essay

Last Sunday, my family and I went to the zoo. It was a sunny day and we got there at 8 am. When we arrived, there was a big crowd at the entrance. Some people were buying tickets, and others were just enjoying the nice weather and chatting.

Inside, we found a lovely lake with ducks and swans swimming around. It was pretty cool to see all those white ducks on the water. As we walked around, we came across a place with lots of birds – parrots, pigeons, eagles, and sparrows of different colors. The birds were making some enchanting music, and we stopped to enjoy it for a bit.

Next, we saw big cats like leopards, lions, tigers, and tigresses. One lion even rushed towards us, and its roars were really loud and scary. Moving on, we checked out a tiger's den. The tiger had sharp teeth and gave us a fierce look. It walked gracefully towards us, but its roar made us step back. We also saw bears and elephants. The elephants were majestic, swinging their trunks in the air, and the bears were happily playing together.

In another area, there were deer and stags taking strolls, and they were playful and beautiful. We then found a spot with baboons and monkeys in a big tree. They were jumping around, playing pranks, and some even came down for bananas. Kids were having fun making faces at them.

Later, we visited an aquarium with colorful fishes and dolphins happily playing in the water. Near the end, we saw sad polar bears in an enclosure, so we gave them some food. The black bear in another cage was doing tricks, and people were thrilled. We also checked out crocodiles, snakes like pythons and cobras, but the hissing cobras made us move away.

After going around the zoo, we sat in a garden, surrounded by the sweet smell of flowers. The calm wind made it a perfect place to relax. We enjoyed the view with some snacks and drinks. As the sun set, we left the zoo with happy memories and excitement.

Visiting a zoo makes us learn a lot many things about the various species of animals besides the fun and frolic that we have. We get to learn about the tastes and habits of so many varieties of birds, animals, reptiles, and beasts. A zoo is a place that brings us closer to the living beings that we co-exist with on this earth – the animals, birds, reptiles, insects, and so on. It tells us about the balance between the animal species and their habitats. It shows us that animal life is as important as human life. It tells us even more about the wondrous creations of God on this earth.

The value of zoos lies in their ability to bridge the gap between humans and the natural world. They offer us a glimpse into the lives of creatures we might never encounter otherwise, fostering a sense of wonder and respect for the diversity of life on Earth. However, this privilege comes with a responsibility – to ensure the well-being of the animals in our care and to constantly strive for improvement in their living conditions.

Ultimately, the future of zoos lies in striking a delicate balance between education, conservation, and animal welfare. By prioritizing the needs of the animals we hold captive, we can ensure that zoos become not just places of entertainment, but also sanctuaries for endangered species and vital centers for conservation education. Only then can these wondrous, complex institutions truly fulfill their potential as ambassadors of the wild.

Short Essay on Zoo – Essay 1 (200 words)

Introduction

An establishment where species of wild animals are housed within enclosures and displayed to the public is termed as a zoological park or in popular terms a ‘Zoo’. These facilities help in the conservation of rare animal species such as the Javan and black Rhino, the Sumatran Elephant and Orang-utan, various species of tigers, the giant panda, etc. that have become extinct due to the mass cutting down of forests.

Zoo – A Saviour of Natural Environment

By providing these endangered species adequate medical attention and a safe and secure habitat imitating their natural surroundings, these animal parks have successfully felicitated the “captive breeding programmes.” This includes the reproduction of animals and thereafter their re-introduction into their natural habitat. This has helped in increasing the number of animals in the wild.

Zoo and Education

As in case of children, the zoos play an important role in educating them about their natural environment, of which wildlife is an important part. Despite various geographic channels on television, the zoos attract millions of children every year as they help the children with an opportunity to see the real animals. This helps in educating these small children about the behaviour and the environment of these wild animals.

Thus, the need of the hour is to promote the ‘breeding’ programmes in zoos and also felicitate the formulation of more zoological gardens in order to prevent the extinction of the various species of animals.

Essay on a Visit to a Zoo – Essay 2 (300 words)

Visit to a Zoological park has always been an enchanting and mesmerizing experience for all of us, especially in our childhood days. The lush greenery and the feeling of oneness that a person feels with the natural environment being amidst the wildlife have no match.

Witnessing Mammals, Birds and Reptiles in a Zoo

The establishments that houses various species of wild animals within enclosures and put them for display in public, in common terms are called zoos. These not only help in conserving the rare species of mammals, insects, amphibians, reptiles, etc. but also help in educating children about the other living beings of their environment.

By viewing the wild animals such as the Asiatic lion, the Bengal tiger and the leopard, children not only observe their behaviour but also gain knowledge about their eating habits, which is not possible in the concretized urban areas. Furthermore, the monkeys, chimpanzees and also orang-utans seem to appear amusing not only physically because of their long limbs but also because of their behaviour. At times they can be witnessed playing with each other.

Apart from these mammals, there are also various reptiles that breed in captivity in these zoological gardens. These include the crocodile, alligator, tortoise and various varieties of snakes which, if one is lucky can be seen hunting their prey, when they are served live chicks and fishes in their enclosures by attendants.

Also, there are various birds including hornbill and shikra in the list of the endangered species that are bred in various zoos and can only be witnessed in captivity just like the white Bengal Tiger. Thus, the visit to these zoos is not a futile activity, neither for children nor for adults as the rarest of the rare animals from various parts of the world including Africa and America can be found in any zoological garden, located in any corner of the world.

The visits to such places must be encouraged as it not only educates us about other living beings but also makes us feel one with the environment.

Essay on My Visit to a Zoo – Essay 3 (400 words)

Since, my childhood days I have always been mesmerized by and fascinated at the sight of animals. Watching them on television channel like Animal Planet with their frightening looks, catching their prey, taking care of their infants, etc. has always thrilled me. Thus, I was extremely glad when my elder brother offered me a tour to the Delhi Zoological Park on my tenth birthday. It seemed as the best birthday gift ever!

After reaching the zoo via the Delhi Metro we purchased the tickets and walked inside. There were numerous children all over the place who had come to visit the zoo accompanied with their parents and siblings. Thought there was the availability of vehicle for moving inside the zoo, we still opted for walking on foot for a more thrilling experience. This way I could spend more time observing the places where my favourite animals had been kept.

Amusing Monkeys

The first sight was of the monkeys which were present in various varieties. These included the light brown skinned monkey, langur, chimpanzee, baboon, etc. They were of varied sizes, having both long and short tails. When I reached there, the monkeys were being given bananas and mangos in their cage by the zoo authorities. It was a very amusing scene to watch them consuming those fruits after carefully peeling them off themselves like human beings.

Marvellous Water Birds

Thereafter, we moved on to the section where the water birds had been kept in captivity alongside a man-made pond. They were of different hues, including the black and white swan, ducks, cranes, pelicans, etc. I was mesmerized upon viewing the black swan, by its marvellous black shade and the elegance with which it was floating in the pond.

Ferocious Carnivores

Next, we moved on to watch the Asiatic lion, the Bengal tigers, leopards, cheetahs and bears, which had been kept in cages, away from the other herbivorous mammals. Unlike the deer and bucks that had been kept in herds, these carnivores were kept individually and were making deafening roars and screeching sounds that sacred me.

Reptile section

Moving further, we visited the underground reptile section where the venomous snakes and pythons, alligators and crocodiles were kept. It was a prolific experience to observe the various designs on their skins.

Since, the day was coming to an end with the setting of the Sun; we decided to wind up the visit and reach home to cut my birthday cake. Though I was tired and exhausted walking all day long, it is still the best birthday I have ever had, having spent the entire day watching the animals with whom I had been fascinated since infancy.

Essay on Zoo Visit with Family – Essay 4 (500 words)

As one grows up, the desire and zeal to visit a zoo gets subdued because of the peer pressure. However, a teenager still feels mesmerised and enchanted at the sight of the wild animals in their natural habitat when it is pictured on the television screen.

Zoo Visit with Family

I was in a similar situation. But unlike others, I still got the opportunity to visit the zoo again because of my younger brother who had recently turned five. His curiosity about the animals and my purpose of educating him on the same triggered the plan to visit the zoo with the entire family on a lazy Sunday. Packed in a Honda City, all four of us reached the Delhi Zoological Garden around eleven in the morning. My father purchased the tickets and also a guide map of the zoo from the ticket counter and we entered along the marked footprints. We had the option of boarding the van for roaming around, but we instead opted to walk so that we could spend more time observing our favourite animals.

Magnificent Swans

After entering the zoo, first we came across the pond in which water birds including ducks, stoke, pelicans and swans had been kept. The ducks were quaking and playing among themselves. And moreover the swans, as white as pearls, floating along their partners offered a magnificent picturesque image. I was spellbound upon seeing their beauty and elegance.

Royal Cats Spotted

A little walk later, we found the royal Bengal white tiger which was separated from us by a ditch and was walking in the open enclosure. My younger brother was delighted upon seeing it and we all spent a considerable amount of time observing the tiger galloping from the trees into the small pond.

Next to it was the ditch where the other royal spotted cat had been kept in captivity. Though there were three leopards, they seemed bored as all were relaxing under some tree or other and did not seem to be enthusiastic as the tiger. Moreover, the Asiatic Lion in the other ditch too seemed to take circles inside the open enclosure.

Rock Skinned Rhinoceros

Moving further, we came across a one horned rhinoceros which seemed to be relaxing in the pond nearby. Its skin seemed to be rock hard and its legs short, in contrast to the giraffe on its opposite side, which had a long neck and legs. Giraffes were truly marvellous creatures, which were silent and were munching on leaves from the trees; the entire time we observed them.

Colourful and Vibrant Aquarium

Thereafter, we had a look at the aquarium which had various varieties of colourful fishes, including the cat fish, the clown fish, zebra fish, etc. My younger brother was really excited upon spotting the clown fish which he had seen in the movie ‘Finding Nemo.’ There was also a small lazy tortoise in the aquarium.

Since there was some cleaning and renovation taking place in the underground reptiles section, it was closed and thus we were not able to visit it. We finished our trip to the zoo by observing the amusing monkeys and there after headed towards the exit gate. All together it was a really pleasing experience for me and especially my younger brother, who was still in awe of the magnificent wildlife.

Essay on Zoo Visit: A School Tour – Essay 5 (600 words)

Before breaking up for the winter vacations, my school organised a tour to the National Zoological Park, Delhi. All the students were enthusiastic and excited about it, as it was our first outing with our peers since we had been promoted to fourth standard.

Dressed neatly in the school uniforms along with the sport shoes, we set out for the journey by having assembled ourselves in the school bus. It took us about an hour to reach the zoo. The tickets had already been purchased by the school authorities in advance, hence upon reaching we directly entered the zoo unlike other people who were standing in the queues at the ticket counters. We had already been given instructions to walk in small groups, each headed by a teacher in order to avoid getting lost.

Our Intelligent and Playful Ancestors

First, we came across the monkeys which were kept in a very large cage with trees in different varieties to provide them with ample space for jumping and playing. These included the langur, baboon, chimpanzee, light brown skinned monkey etc. When we reached there, the monkeys were being fed mangoes and bananas by the zoo authorities. We were amazed at their intelligence as they carefully peeled the fruits and consumed only the edible part.

We also came across our ancestor gorilla walking on two legs just as we humans walk today.

Fierce and Frightening Roars

Walking further we observed a Himalayan black bear that was calmly resting under a tree in a ditch and consuming honey, which had been given by the zoo authorities. It was funny to see him only concentrate on the honey and completely ignore the fierce roars that were coming from the nearby ditches. These roars were of the leopards that seemed to be irritated perhaps because they have not yet been fed.

Thereafter, we walked to the next ditch and observed the magnificent Bengal tiger which was galloping up and down the trees and in the pond. Its aerobics seemed to attract various passersby and also we children spent a great deal of time watching it.

All this while, I and my friends had been exited to see the big lion with a great mane, fearful roars and its lour about which we had discussed. However, when we came across it, the Asiatic lion was calmly sleeping under the shade of the tree. We all were really disappointed.

Underground Reptile Section

Moving further, we visited the underground reptile section where the venomous snakes and crocodiles had been kept. The snakes though poisonous and dangerous, had extremely beautiful designs on their gliding skin, especially the Asian vine snake and the Sri Lankan Pit Viper.

Additionally, it was a prolific experience to observe the alligators and crocodiles swimming very stealthily in the pond.

Magnificent and Colourful Birds

Coming back on the ground level, we encountered a very big cage where the birds including the hornbill, peacock, shikra, kite, etc. had been kept in captivity providing them with ample room for flying. They were really beautiful birds in varied colours, especially the peacock that was in procession of extremely beautiful feathers. I and my friends were lucky enough to see the peacock with its open feathers.

There were also some water birds, not capable of flying too high, including the ducks, swans, cranes etc. in different hues that were kept in a manmade pond. They were despite the winter season, floating in the water and enjoying it.

After having completed the tour, a lunch had been arranged by the school authorities in the restaurant at the zoo. It was buffet that we ate till our hearts content and then had ice cream. Thereafter, we boarded the bus and reached the school premises by four in the evening. Though I have visited the zoo a number of times with my family, this experience with my friends was indeed fun and memorable.
