I remember the day as if it were yesterday. My mother and I were in the car on our way to a family member’s house- just like any other day. We were driving down the main road in my town when the car was t-boned by another car that had run a red light. Our Honda Accord was smashed to pieces in the middle of the intersection. My mother was bleeding and the front of the car had crashed on top of my legs- I couldn’t feel either leg, but at the same time, tremendous pain shot through my body, not to mention fear. I looked over at the car that hit us and it was just as demolished- the front of the car was smoking; honestly, I feared that one of the vehicles might combust.
I tried to get out of my vehicle, but I could not open the door. The impact from the crash caused too much damage and my injured mother and I had no choice but to wait for the EMTs to arrive to help us get out of the vehicle.
Several cop cars, two ambulances and a fire truck rushed to the scene. The doors to our car were pried open with the jaws of life as the man who hit us was placed onto a gurney and lifted into the ambulance. I don’t know what his condition was, but if it even paled in comparison to the way his car looked after the accident, he was in serious medical condition.
When my mother was removed from our vehicle, she was treated by EMS workers for cuts and scrapes associated with the accident, but the EMS technicians said that she would be fine. I wasn’t as lucky.
When the doors on my side of the car were pried away, it revealed to the medical help that I had broken at least one of my legs, if not both. I was carefully removed from the vehicle and placed in a wheelchair then brought to the ambulance. The EMTs drove me to the local hospital where they took X-rays of both of my legs.
I waited anxiously in my bed for the results of the X-rays as the nurses cleaned up my cuts from the shattered glass. My mother sat by my bedside praying over me, but most of me was just thankful that I was the one in the hospital bed instead of her.
The doctor came into the room with my X-ray results. As an athlete and an overall busy person who relies on my legs heavily, I feared for the worst. Luckily, it could have been worse. The doctor revealed to me that I shattered my right knee but that my left leg did not break in the impact. Although I would have to undergo intense surgery and physical rehabilitation to repair my right knee, the doctor assured me that I would be walking fine again within several months. It wasn’t the greatest news I had ever received, but through my eyes, my mother and I were okay, and I was grateful.
The accident changed me. The surgery was difficult but I got through it with the support of my family. I may have walked out of the hospital with a broken right knee, but I also carried with me a greater appreciation for my family, as well as my life. In the accident I realized the preciousness of every moment and ultimately the car crash changed my life for the better.
Since the accident I have become closer to God, my family and my friends. I understand the importance of what true love is and what it means to savor each moment. My rehabilitation for my knee might have been a physical healing process, but I also went through an emotional rehabilitation, where my spirit healed from the accident.
I could have died that day. Worse, I could have lost my best friend and my mother that day. I carry the accident with me in my mind every day- it is my constant reminder to cherish life and appreciate every moment. I have a set of rosary beads that I know hang off the rear view window of my own car, as my personal reminder of that day. When I look at those beads, I think of my mother, I think of God, and I am truly grateful for being where I am today.
For a long time I struggled to look at my glass as half full after the accident. I wanted reasons for questions that had no answers. Why us? Why me? Why my knee? For months I took those questions and fostered them into hostility.
Today is different though. Today I carry my scars like badges of honor. Yes I did get in a horrible car accident, and here I am today. Clearly I wasn’t meant to die that day- and I know that ultimately I am on this earth to serve a larger purpose. Instead of being ashamed of my scars, today I look at them as markers of strength- proof that I can overcome anything. That accident may have broken my knee but it didn’t break my spirit. If anything, it made my spirit stronger and helped me get to where I am today.

Narrative Essay on Road Accident I Witnessed
Narrative essay generator.
Accidents on the road can be life-altering experiences, often leaving a lasting impact on those who witness them. One such incident that I witnessed a few years ago still lingers in my mind, a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety. This essay recounts the details of that harrowing event, aiming to shed light on the consequences of negligence and the paramount importance of vigilance while on the road.
The Day of the Accident
It was a bright and sunny afternoon in mid-July. The streets were bustling with people, and the air was filled with the usual cacophony of honking cars, chattering pedestrians, and the distant hum of city life. I was on my way home from school, walking along the sidewalk, lost in thoughts of the day’s events and the homework that awaited me.
As I approached a busy intersection, the traffic light turned green, signaling for pedestrians to cross. I waited for a few seconds, allowing a car to pass before stepping onto the zebra crossing. What happened next unfolded in a matter of seconds but felt like an eternity. A speeding motorcycle, attempting to beat the red light, swerved into view. The rider, realizing too late that he couldn’t make it, attempted to brake but lost control.
The motorcycle skidded across the road, heading straight for a pedestrian about to reach the other side. In a desperate attempt to avoid a direct collision, the rider veered to the left but ended up crashing into a nearby car. The impact was so severe that the rider was thrown off his bike, landing several feet away, motionless.
The Immediate Aftermath
The scene that followed was one of chaos and panic. The sound of the crash had drawn the attention of everyone nearby. Pedestrians screamed, and drivers honked, creating a cacophony of noise. I stood frozen, my heart racing, as I processed what I had just witnessed.
Several people rushed towards the injured rider and the occupants of the car, trying to offer assistance. I remember the overwhelming sense of helplessness as I watched them dial emergency numbers, their voices urgent and shaky. The driver of the car, visibly shaken but uninjured, stepped out to check on the rider, who lay still on the pavement.
Within minutes, the wail of sirens filled the air as an ambulance and police cars arrived at the scene. The medical team quickly attended to the rider, who was fortunately still alive but seriously injured. The police cordoned off the area, redirecting traffic and starting their preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident.
Reflections on the Incident
As the adrenaline faded and I continued my journey home, the gravity of what I had witnessed began to sink in. It was a sobering reminder of how quickly a normal day could turn tragic due to a moment of carelessness. The rider’s decision to speed and beat the red light had not only endangered his life but also those of others around him.
This incident highlighted the critical importance of road safety measures, such as obeying traffic signals, wearing helmets, and driving within speed limits. It also underscored the unpredictable nature of road accidents and the need for both drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant at all times.
In the days that followed, I found myself more cautious and aware of my surroundings while walking or riding in a vehicle. The accident served as a powerful lesson on the consequences of negligence on the road and the collective responsibility we share in preventing such tragedies.
The road accident I witnessed was a stark reminder of the thin line between life and death and the impact of our choices behind the wheel. It taught me the importance of road safety, not just as a set of rules to follow, but as a commitment to protecting ourselves and others. As we navigate the roads of life, let us do so with caution and care, mindful of the precious lives that depend on our vigilance and responsibility. This narrative serves as a call to action for all of us to prioritize safety and make our roads safer for everyone.

Short Essay on an Accident I Saw
On a regular day, I was returning from school. It was a hot summer day, and the road was clean and traffic-free. Suddenly, listen to a loud sound: a bike hits an SUV car, and the biker falls onto the road.
Immediately, I ran to the biker. He was without a helmet and heavily injured in the head. Meanwhile, the driver of the car came out and started scolding the biker. I stopped the driver and said, This is the time to help, not fight. I requested that he call an ambulance a few minutes later to the hospital.
This accident experience will stay with me for the rest of my life. This experience taught me the importance of helmets and road safety.
Long Essay on an Accident I Saw
The time was early morning on winter’s foggy day. The road was fully covered by fog, and there was not any traffic on the road.
I woke up early that day for my study. I was studying at my table when I suddenly heard the loud sound of someone shouting. I opened my window and saw that somebody had crashed his car into the wall beside the road.
Immediately I ran to that car, and two of my neighbours reached the car, and we together brought the driver outside of the car. He was bleeding from his head and had several other injuries to his body.
The driver had not worn a seatbelt, and that led to several injuries. I called an ambulance within 5 minutes, and it reached and took him to the hospital. In the evening, the police took his car out.
I remember this terrible experience from that accident. It happened so fast that I just can’t believe it in my eyes. This accident reminds me about road safety and the importance of consciousness when driving.

Drunk Driving
Lack of driving experience, excessive self-confidence in personal driving skills, excessive speed.
Technical progress in the automotive industry has led to the fact that the car has ceased to be a luxury item today and is an indispensable attribute of most people’s lives. However, because of the interest in increasing vehicle capacity and the spread of machinery, more and more road accidents began to occur. The reasons for them are different, and the consequences of accidents also differ; therefore, it is possible to describe the most common causes of crashes on the roads and the effects that they have.
Drunk driving causes accidents quite often and the fact that many cases are fatal is sad. When sitting at the wheel in the state of alcohol intoxication, the driver puts at risk not only his or her life but also the lives of pedestrians and other road users. Laws against drunken drivers are toughened annually; nevertheless, it does not stop some people from violating them. Various cases of death through the fault of such drivers occur quite often, and the consequences of these disasters can be utterly unpredictable since drunk people often do not realize what they are doing when sitting at the wheel.
Those people who do not have much driving experience quite often become involuntary participants in road accidents. The consequences of crashes can be different: it can be both a minor damage to someone else’s vehicle and a serious disaster. The fact is that the lack of experience is often a severe problem in situations that require immediate solutions. The person who has spent many years at the wheel has a good chance of reacting to an unexpected obstacle and avoiding a crash. At the same time, an inexperienced driver can inadvertently provoke a traffic accident and become its culprit. Therefore, the less experienced the driver is, the higher the risk to get into a crash.
In addition to the lack of experience, excessive self-confidence in personal driving skills and disregard for simple safety rules can also become the causes of accidents. As a rule, it applies to those people who have been driving for a long time and believe that they do not need to worry about their lives. An unfastened seat belt, the absence of a fire extinguisher and other violations can lead to irreversible consequences, and not only the perpetrator of a road accident but also a pedestrian or other driver can suffer. It is important to remember that it is essential to be vigilant on the road and not to assume that a significant driving experience is a complete guarantee of safety. Sometimes, excessive self-confidence can lead to dangerous consequences.
One of the frequent causes of accidents is the excess of the speed limit. This violation is dangerous because the person driving at high speed can not respond timely to the threat that has arisen. In this case, the damage from the crash while driving fast will be significantly greater than that from slow driving. The effects of accidents caused by such violations can be severe, and it is crucial not to allow speeding.
Thus, the most common causes of accidents are drunk driving, the lack of driving experience or too much self-confidence, as well as speeding. The consequences of an accident can be extremely severe both for drivers themselves and for people around them. The compliance with traffic rules will help to avoid accidents and be safe.

Homework: Descriptive text: My first car accident…
It was a perfectly bad February day. Better yet, the whole month had been that way. It was a dark and gloomy and it smelled like it was just on about to rain BIG time. While I was walking towards my car, tears were gliding on my face like water glides down on a beautiful waterfall. The difference: I was sad and, with mascara replacing my blush, kind of ugly. Officially, I had lost one of my best friends, school was harder than I expected, monetary issues were beginning to be a big factor and well… I think that paints a good picture. Knowing my boyfriend was coming over at about 8 o’clock, I wanted to leave and be there before he got to my house. All along I was ignoring the fact that I was exhausted emotionally, physically and mentally.
When I got into my little blue Saturn and onto the 417 that was when everything officially began to hit. By this time it was 6:00 o’clock at night and it was a cold and crisp outside. That is why, like every other normal human being with heating in their car, I turned it on. May I add, full throttle. My eyes were closing every other second just like a magnet tries to glue itself to an aluminum surface. They were heavy and unbearable. Fortunately, I was able to pull through by blasting music, turning the heat off, opening my window for fresh air and even slapping and pinching my face. All of the tricks I normally use when I get sleepy behind the wheel, but in this case I didn’t resort to my last and most effective option: using my phone and calling my mom. I got off the highway on the Park dale exit. It was a very narrow and fast transition from 100 KM\H to 50 KM\h. I started to think about how close I was to home and about the money I was spending on this ride back to Aylmer. Ironically, I looked at the price on the billboard of a PETRO CANADA gas station and thought about how expensive that was. My memory of anything else stops there until I opened my eyes and everything was in slow motion. I saw the front of my beautiful little blue car being squished towards me by a big black SUV. I felt my head moving back and then slamming twice on the steering wheel. It was comparable to a nightmare where everything is happening but you don’t feel a thing. Finally, I blinked and in a split second that slow motion\mute button was off. It was all going so fast. Two big bangs and the repetition of everything I just saw but in a normal speed. All of a sudden it stopped and I got out of the car trembling out of shock and crying. Now, it was more like the Niagara Falls.
– Are you ok?! The Lebanese looking lady asked me.
I didn’t answer. Instead I bombarded her with a gazillion questions about her wellbeing and how sorry I was. Then, I turned around and that was when I saw my car and actually realized what had happened. It was officially the worst moment of my life.

1 response to homework: descriptive text: my first car accident….
Oh Stephanie, my dear Stephanie… I would like to write like you do! The descriptions you use are very effective like this one: “My eyes were closing every other second just like a magnet tries to glue itself to an aluminum surface.” That is just one among many others…it’s juste that this one was my favorite. Right away you put the reader in the right mood. Good introduction. The fluency of your ideas is excellent. Everything is narrated in a chronological order. I would maybe separate your big paragraph into 4 smaller ones: 1st one would have ended with : “May I add, full throttle.” 2nd one:”Ironically, I looked at the price on the billboard of a PETRO CANADA gas station and thought about how expensive that was.” 3rd one:”It was comparable to a nightmare where everything is happening but you don’t feel a thing.” 4th one:”Now, it was more like the Niagara Falls.” I think it would have given your text more rythm…but it’s just my opinion! 😉 Conclusion: It’s a good one. Overall…good text! Good job my friend!

My First Car Accident
2 Pages 542 Words April 2015
In my mind, I could never fancy how ten seconds of life could change a person's view on his whole existence. I experienced the scariest moment in my life. That was the month I faced my very first car accident. It is a moment I will never forget. It was a beautiful hot summer day in May 2013. I was driving from my college to my home. Unfortunately, I did not make it home right after because I was involved a car accident. What happened that evening changed the way I drive, it taught me some valuable lessons and came to the conclusion that life is too short to take things for granted. First of all, I was coming over a hill when all of a sudden the car in front of me made a sudden stop. I instantly collided with the car. The sick rush of nervousness flowed through my body. I immediately thought to myself, “Oh no, my older sister is going to kill me. Why did this have to happen to me?” And then, I started shuffling though my purse looking for my cell phone, and I found it and instantly called my older sister. I was trying to get the words out through all my tears and I said “Sister! I was just in an accident.” She tried to calm me down with the words of “Are you okay? I respond by saying, “I never want to drive again.” And my sister told me that she would come there as soon as possible. After I hung out the phone, my head started hurt and it was like being punched by a professional boxer. Although I was shaking uncontrollably, I had to try getting out of my car. The crash had caused the front driver door wasn’t budged an inch and so I was unable to step out. I was forced to walk out through the passenger door and I got out of my car. A guy from the other vehicle ran over to me, and as his voice stuttered and asked “Are you hurt?”. In fear, I responded by saying, “I’m alright, just a little scared.” I sat flat on the sidewalk, and my back leaned against the wall. In a short distance I begin to see the red and blue...

1- My First Car Accident
I neared my home and decided to stop by the gas station to pick up some drinks and some gum. I made a right turn onto the street, and since it was a corner, I had to drive onto the merging lane on the other side of the street once the traffic light had turned green. I was never sure how it had happened, whether it was my fault or the other driver’s fault, but I blacked out for a few seconds and I reacted too slowly. What was worse, I accelerated instead of braking. I had just made it across the intersection and was in the merging lane when a silver car, larger than mine, had attempted to cross the merging lane into a parking lot. I was traveling too fast and I crashed, causing the front of my car to become more like an accordion.
I was in a shock and the world stopped for me for a few minutes. The driver of the other car had gotten out of his car and asked if I was okay. That is when I noticed the large crack in the windshield. Apparently, I had not put on my seatbelt and had cracked the window with my head. it was like being punched by a professional boxer. We moved the cars into the parking lot and the other driver had already called the police. One police car had already arrived on the scene by the time we had parked both cars. The crash had caused the front driver door to bend and so I was unable to step out. I was forced to walk out through the passenger door and step out as the cop asked us for our information. The police officer asked for my driver’s license and my insurance information. I had given it to him as my other arrived at the scene. I was so terrified that I sort of lost my tongue for a while, since this was the first time I had been in a car crash.
I had experienced my first car crash, and I was shaken up about it for about two weeks. My father, without enthusiastically, took care of the car repair and gave my car back after about a month. I was back on the road with much more wariness. Whether it is a simple “fender-bender” or a larger accident, the first car crash is something no one, especially teenagers, want to experience, at least not alone.

My Unsung Hero
She was severely injured in a crash. a truck driver became her 'highway angel'.

A highway crash had both a positive and negative impact on Frances Brissey. Frances Brissey/Frances Brissey hide caption
This story is part of the My Unsung Hero series, from the Hidden Brain team. It features stories of people whose kindness left a lasting impression on someone else.
In February 2023, Frances Brissey was heading from North Carolina back to her home in Florida after a family funeral. Her son was driving the car, with his wife beside him, and Brissey and her grandchildren were in the back.
When Molly’s husband died, a friend came up with a way to help: The ‘Calendar Girls’
As they made their way down I-95 in Georgia, a truck ahead of them began driving erratically, eventually crashing into Brissey’s family’s van. The impact threw Brissey from the back seat all the way to the front. She hit the windshield before falling back onto her daughter-in-law.
Brissey couldn’t move and was in immense pain. Her daughter-in-law, whose leg was broken in the accident, was trapped underneath her.
Then, Brissey heard a man’s voice: “I'm gonna hold her off your leg to give you some relief," he said to her daughter-in-law.
Brissey felt the man wrap his arms around her.
“It was a comfort, [him] holding me there. And I felt OK,” she recalls.
The man was a truck driver named Terry Reavis. Reavis had seen the crash and rushed over to help. He comforted Brissey until the ambulance arrived.

“We went to a trauma center [and] I stayed there for 21 days. That was the hardest 21 days of my life,” Brissey said.
The crash was a blur in Brissey’s memory. Once she was back home, she decided to call witnesses listed in the police report to try to piece together what had happened. One of those people was Reavis.
“When I heard his voice on the phone, it was just as much comfort as it was that day [of the accident],” she said.
Reavis recounted everything he could remember — telling Brissey what she had said while he held her, and recalling the names of all of her family members.
She was overwhelmed by clearing out her parents' belongings. Then a friend stepped in
“He [told me], ‘You changed my life. You showed me that I needed to love more,’” Brissey said.
Brissey says that day changed her life as well. In bad ways, but good ones, too. She feels grateful to have been saved by Reavis, a man she describes as her friend and “highway angel.”
“It was somebody that cared for my family. They actually stopped and cared. And that's very hard to find. He's our hero forever. And we'll always stay in touch with him for the rest of our lives.”
My Unsung Hero is also a podcast — new episodes are released every Tuesday. To share the story of your unsung hero with the Hidden Brain team, record a voice memo on your phone and send it to [email protected].
