Respect of Parents Essay in English- 300 Words

In today’s society, it seems that there is a lack of respect for parents. With more and more children living away from home and having less contact with their parents, it seems that this lack of respect has become commonplace. It is difficult to point to one specific reason for this lack of respect, but there are a few factors that likely contribute. First, many children today do not have close relationships with their fathers. This may be due to various reasons, such as the father’s work schedule or his own personal life. In any case, the absence of a strong father-son relationship can have a negative impact on the son’s respect for parents. Second, many children today do not have regular discussions about matters related to parenting. As children grow older, they tend to rely more and more on information coming from television or the Internet. This type of one-sided communication can leave children without the skills necessary to properly care for a family member, such as a parent. Last, many children today view their parents simply as sources of financial support. This attitude can be deeply rooted in some cases and may not change until the child becomes an adult and begins to see his or her parents in a different light. Until then, the child may treat his or her parents with little respect, believing that they are simply tools to be used for obtaining financial gain. In conclusion, Respect is important because it is one of the core values that our parents instil in us. It is also important because it is a two-way street; we cannot expect to receive respect if we do not give it in return. Lastly, having respect for others leads to a more harmonious society and can even prevent conflict. The next time you find yourself getting annoyed with someone, take a step back and try to see things from their perspective – you may just find that a little bit of respect goes a long way.

Essay on Mom and Dad 400 + Words

No matter what stage of life you are in, one of your parents always plays a pivotal role in your life. For some, their mom and dad are constants in their lives. For others, they may only see them during specific periods of time. Regardless of the circumstances, all parents bring something unique and special to the table.

The Role of Mother in a Child’s Life

The role of mothers is one that is seldom taken for granted. Mothers provide unconditional love and care for their children, and without them, many children would never experience the happiness and security that comes with a family. Mothers are also responsible for teaching their children about morals and values, setting an example for them both in private and public life, and helping to create a sense of identity. In some cases, mothers may also have to take on roles outside the home such as working or caring for elderly relatives. However no matter what mother’s role may be, they all have one common goal – to provide the best possible upbringing for their children.

The Role of Father in a Child’s Life

Fathers have a profound and important role in the lives of their children. They are the primary providers of financial security and emotional support, and they play an essential role in their children’s upbringing. Fathers also exert a strong influence on their children’s educational and career choices. Fathers provide structure and guidance to their children during critical early years, helping to ensure that they develop into successful adults. Fathers play an important role in setting examples for their children, teaching them about values and morals. Fathers can provide crucial support during times of adversity, such as when a child is experiencing a difficult family situation or when he or she is dealing with a health crisis. Dedicated fathers often feel a greater sense of connection to their children than do mothers. Fathers are key figures in their child’s development, and they should be given the opportunity to participate fully in his or her life. All too often, fathers are left out of the equation due to cultural stereotypes about what constitutes appropriate fatherhood. It is time for society to re-evaluate its view of fathers, and recognize them for the valuable role that they play in the lives of their children

What it Means to Be a Good Parent

Being a good parent means creating an atmosphere where your children can flourish and feel loved. It’s important to be there for them when they need you, setting an example of how to behave yourself, and modelling positive values. It’s also crucial to set limits and provide structure, teaching your child how to manage their time and behaviour. Finally, it’s essential to communicate with your child regularly, showing them that you care about them.

As a child, we are taught to look up to our parents as examples of what it means to be a responsible and successful individual. Our parents set the tone for how we view ourselves, and their values often become our own. However, no two parents are alike. What may work perfectly for one child may not be ideal for another. In this essay, I have discussed the role that my mother and father have played in my life and why they are so important to me. Though very childishly I have had disagreements with them from time to time, but I owe them a tremendous amount for all they have done for me over the years.

Narrative Essay: I Love My Parents

Parents are the closest people that we have in our lives, whether we realize it or not. They love us not because we are smart, beautiful, successful or we have a good sense of humour, but just because we are their children. I, too, love mom and dad simply because they are my parents, but I think I would have felt the same even if they weren’t. I love who they are as people, each with their own individual traits – and, together, forming an amazing super-team that’s made me who I am today and taught me what life is all about.

My mother is a cheerful, chatty perfectionist who seems to always find something to get excited about and who can talk for hours about animals and flowers. She is never afraid to speak her mind and she can be very convincing when she wants to. She sometimes get upset a bit too easily, but she is just as quick to forgive and forget. I love mom for all that she is – even when she’s angry – for all that she has done for me, and for all that she’s taught me. My mom has been through a lot throughout the years, but she always kept fighting. She taught me to never lose hope even in the direst of moments, and she showed me how to look for happiness in the small things. She’s been trying to teach me to be more organized as well, but hasn’t succeeded yet. I love her for that too.

My father is quiet, patient and calm, and he has an adorable hit-and-miss sense of humour. I may not always find his jokes that funny, but I love him for trying. Dad almost never gets angry and he is always polite, friendly and nice to everyone. He is not the one to verbalize emotions, but he always shows his feelings through sweet gestures and little surprizes. He is the pacifist in our family and never goes against mom’s wishes, but he runs a large company witha firm hand. I love my father for all these characteristics and for all he’s sacrificed to build a better life for us. He’s worked day and night to ensure we afford good education and have a rich, wonderful childhood, and he has passed up many great opportunities for the benefit of our family. I love dad because he’s taught me that you cannot have it all in life, but with hard work and dedication, you can have what matters most to you.

Mom and dad may be very different people, but they complement each other perfectly. Together, they formed a super-team that was always there – and, thankfully, still is – to provide comfort, nurturing, and support and help me grow as a person. Their complementary personalities bring balance in our family, and each of them steps in whenever they are needed the most. Together, they taught me to believe in myself and have turned me into a fighter. Their care and dedication towards me and each other has served as an example of what healthy relationships should be like, and I love and admire them for that.

I love my parents because they are my parents, my good friends, my heroes, my role models, my safe haven, my pillars of strength.I am who I am today thanks to them, and I know that their support and affection will play an essential role in what I will become in the future. All I can hope is that, when I have children of my own, I will be half as good a parent as they were to me.

The Biological Reason Dads And Moms Treat Their Parental Roles Differently

It's not just in your mind.

Family holding hands and walking in sunny park grass

How did mothers and fathers come to have the defined roles that they do? Of course your wife is every bit as capable of chopping wood, driving around the riding lawn mower, wrestling with the kids, and grilling up a fine steak while drinking a six pack in the backyard. But, the Western world has decided those are stereotypical dad duties. There must be something more to being maternal or paternal than just the eons of gender norms and misogyny. Here’s what science says is the reason why you treat the kids one way, and your wife treats them another.

Indirect Versus Direct Parenting

In 2008, researchers from the Universities of Exeter and Edinburgh were checking out the genetic link between the way a particular creature fathers versus the way it mothers. Their subject? The burying beetle — which has very specific parenting roles based on their biological sex.

They found that the male burying beetle is involved in much more indirect care of offspring, doing things like taking care of the nest and gathering food. The female burying beetle was much more likely to be involved in direct care of the offspring, doing activities that kept them in much closer contact, like feeding. They’d also be more apt to complain about the male burying beetle playing golf with his buddies on Sundays. Just lay off, Belinda!

If you separated the beetles so that they were single parents, their behaviors did not change. This suggests that those gender normative activities were deeply ingrained in the creature’s biology. And researchers did find a genetic correlation to the beetles behavior. But that’s a big leap to equate what bugs do and what humans do (unless you’re Gregor Samsa ).

Mothering And Fathering

While discovering a genetic link to explain the differences in mothering and fathering is yet to happen, the differences absolutely do exist. At least that’s the conclusion of thousands of observational studies . Here’s how a few break down:

  • Mothers : Are more likely to talk to their kids while they play. They also tend to rely on using toys and objects. This kind of play is great for socialization, and emotional growth, and toy company profits.
  • Fathers : Are much more physical in their play and allow for a bit more spontaneity and risk-taking. This helps kids learn their limits while releasing the bonding chemical oxytocin … and sometimes farts.

Language Development

  • Mothers : Will use baby talk on a more regular basis when communicating with their kid. This helps the baby get a grasp on the language and how it works.
  • Fathers : Talk much more directly to their children, with less sing-songy baby talk. That’s totally cool too, because it might actually act as a bridge to more adult language, like “Holy shit, you’re talking.”
  • Mothers : Have a tendency to point out the social cost of being an asshole when they discipline kids. That’s very good for them to know, considering you want them to have friends and not turn into some kind of Shkreli.
  • Fathers : Are inclined to point out concrete results of bad behavior, including things like jail time or fines. Kids need to know that stuff too. Unless you want to establish a bail account now.

On Same Sex Parenting

While this might imply that kids being raised by single gender families are somehow at a loss, that appears to be not the case. A 2010 study from the Journal Of Marriage And Family, found that lesbian couples don’t really split into different roles. Instead, the kids just get a double helping of momness, which does little to affect a child’s outcome. In fact, studies found that in many respects kids were getting more out of their two moms than if they were in a typical heterosexual family.

Interestingly, this wasn’t the case for gay male couples parenting a kid. In these cases it was more likely that one of the men would take on a much more motherly “direct parenting” role. Other studies have shown that when a man becomes a primary caregiver, the portion of the brain associated with mothering emotions light up like a Christmas tree. A tasteful one.

Biological Roles In Parenting

The idea of the researchers in the beetle study is that the genetic differentiation in parenting roles has reinforced the survival of the creatures. Therefore, there is a passing down of the genetic material associated with strong parenting roles.

But there’s one thing that beetles lack, and that’s culture (plus half of their band members — RIP John and George). When you throw the kind of complex culture and psychology humans deal with everyday, things get messy. It might mean the only true biological difference that matters between mothers and fathers is the ability to pee standing up.

Other than that, as long as the caregivers are working together to support and love their kid, things should work out just peachy.

In Most Societies The Role of Mother and Father Differs IELTS Essay  – Model Essay 1

Families are the building blocks of the society. Parents play an incredible, crucial and indispensable role for the development of children. Fathers and mothers both have an individuality, and are equally responsible for the growth of the child physically, mentally and emotionally. But still most of the societies have a different thinking that their role differs. So here I would like to discuss the reasons of these differences.

In most of the societies, especially the remote areas and villages, people believe that role of mother is just to give birth to a child and look after child’s schooling, eating and home work and father is the one who brings the money for bread and butter and doesn’t have to do anything with the child’s care. Due to this, women are deprived of working out and even are deprived of education. First and foremost reason for these differences is that people are illiterate and 60% of the people are still below the poverty line. They are not aware of the good and bad things. Secondly, they follow the old faddy-duddy customs and traditions.

Thirdly, I believe that in these old fashioned societies people don’t have family planning, birth rate is high so women are forced to sit at home and feed the children. Therefore, all the burden of child’s development comes on her shoulders and men have nothing to do except working and earning money. Just imagine if a father is asked in which class his child studies he has to think so hard and even then he cannot recollect. If women go out and work, then older people get skeptical and scold them, as they are narrow minded.

However, in the future the scenario will change. We are living in an era of globalization and westernization in 21’t century. We are influenced by western culture. Nowadays people are educated, literate and aware of things and are broadminded. Parents understand their responsibility and work equally for the holistic development of the child. So, in the future conditions will improve a lot. Parents will plan the things for the bright and shiny future of their children. And they will be united and the child will not be deprived of the fathers love. Both will work so that they can do savings in the future for their child and presently in urban areas things are like this only.

To conclude, there are many reasons for the gender differences in parental roles, but the future is predicted to hold no such differences.

IELTS Writing Task 2 Role of Mother and Father Differs – Model Essay 2

It is true that Parents play an indispensable role for the development of their children. However it is argued that there is different between the responsibility of the fathers and the mothers in the children’s upbringing process. This essay will analyze the several possible causes and predict the trend in the future.

First and foremost reason for these differences is the way of conventional thinking. like in the previous periods, People often hold the view that “the men make houses, the women make home”. Therefore, it is common phenomenon that while the fathers, breadwinners, go out to work in order to make a living, the mothers are involved in household chores as take care their children as well. The second reason is that in poor and developing countries, there is an enormous number of people, especially the female who are illiterate. The women who are insufficient skills and knowledge required become unemployed; therefore, it leads them to be dependent on their husbands’ income.

In Most Societies The Role of Mother and Father Differs

In the 21st century, the situation will change due to equal rights movements. It will become not only normal for women to gain qualifications and pursue a career but also socially acceptable for men to stay at home and look after their children. Both fathers and mothers are predicted to go out to work to earn money as well as share the housework and take care their children to ensure the better conditions for their children’s development.

In conclusion, the modern society witnesses the changing role of men and women because of gender equity. They have equal opportunities in order to assume childcare responsibilities as take up the outdoor types of jobs. It is supposed that this trend is positive and beneficial for societies

Dad Brain Is Real, and It’s a Good Thing

A man with his back to the camera holds a baby.

By Darby Saxbe

Dr. Saxbe, a professor of psychology at the University of Southern California, is writing a book about how fatherhood changes the brain.

A father of three recently told me that if he could go back in time and give himself one piece of advice, it would be to have kids sooner. Fatherhood changed him; it gave his life purpose, he said. It turns out neuroscience agrees with him.

My research lab investigates how the brain changes when men become fathers, and we are discovering that fatherhood can be transformative for their brains and bodies. The brain and hormonal changes we observe in new dads tell us that nature intended men to participate in child rearing, because it equipped them with neurobiological architecture to do so. They, too, can show the fundamental instinct for nurturing that’s often attributed solely to mothers.

Not only that, but men’s involvement in fatherhood can have long-term benefits for their brain health — and for healthy societies. At a time when boys and men seem to be experiencing greater social isolation and declining occupational prospects, the role of father can provide a meaningful source of identity. But the transition to fatherhood can also be a time of vulnerability, which is why supporting fathers should be a priority for policymakers.

In a 2022 study , my colleagues and I collaborated with researchers in Spain to gather brain scans of a small number of first-time fathers before and after their children were born. Our results echoed studies of mothers done by some of the same researchers. In several landmark studies , they found that as women became mothers, their brains lost volume in gray matter, the layer of brain tissue rich with neurons, in regions across the brain, including those responsible for social and emotional processing.

Although a shrinking brain sounds like bad news, less can be more: These changes may fine-tune the brain to work more efficiently. The teenage brain also trims its gray matter as it develops. Women who lost more brain volume showed stronger attachment to their infants after birth, indicating that the shrinkage promoted bonding.

Our findings for fathers were similar. Men also lost gray matter volume in new fatherhood, in some of the same regions that changed in women. But volume reductions for dads were less pronounced. The findings for mothers had been so striking that a machine-learning algorithm could tell mothers and nonmothers apart by their brain scans alone. The picture was noisier for fathers. My hunch is that men’s brain changes looked less clear-cut because fathers vary so much in their levels of engagement in parenting.

Lakewood homicide: Mother accused of murdering her two small children faces judge

mother and father on essay

LAKEWOOD - A 27-year-old Lakewood mother has been accused of murdering her two small children, stabbing one and drowning both, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced.

Naomi Elkins was charged with two counts of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

Elkins appeared virtually in Ocean County court before Judge Scott Basen Wednesday afternoon, from the county jail's medical facility. Her detention hearing is scheduled for July 1 and she is being represented by Mitch Ansell, a criminal defense attorney.

At 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, Lakewood police responded to report of two children in cardiac arrest at a home on Shenandoah Drive, the prosecutor's office announced. There they found Hatzolah Medical Services on the scene attempting to save the lives of the two children, ages 1 and 3. But their efforts fell short, and both children were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police investigated and concluded the 1-year-old child had been stabbed and both children were drowned, the prosecutor's office said. They concluded Elkins had murdered both her children and took her into custody without incident. She was taken to Ocean County Jail, and will remain there until a detention hearing.

Billhimer credited the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office for their work at the scene.

Multiple officers could be seen Tuesday night at the home at the northeast side of the intersection of Shenandoah Drive and Rockbridge Road . Crime scene tape could be seen along the entire corner, extending from the front of the house on Shenandoah to Rockbridge. A playground could be seen adjacent to the home.

Investigators could be seen coming and going through a rear side door, facing the intersection. They were seen removing a number of boxes and bags from the home and packing them into a Sheriff's Office vehicle.

All appeared quiet Wednesday morning at the house. By that point, no crime tape or law enforcement vehicles were present at the scene of the double homicide.

The residence sits in a neighborhood that holds larger houses, which appear to be home to families with children, many in the township's sizable Orthodox Jewish community. Toys and bikes can be seen scattered across many lawns in the development.

“It’s a horrible thing to know that something like that happened here," said Mayor Raymond Coles. "I always wait for the official information and stay out of the way. From what I know, it is the worst possible thing that can happen, anything involving children hurts and it makes it more powerful and sad.”

Coles said the local Orthodox community "are all still in shock and I do not want to insert myself. … From the second they found out about it, the support networks kick in. They do not have to worry about people being supportive.”

“Right now everyone’s in absolute and total shock," said Herschel Herskowitz, a local activist and longtime downtown merchant. "It brings back the story of Andrea Yates, with the five children," he said referring to the Houston woman who confessed in 2001 to drowning her five children in a bathtub. She was eventually found not guilty by reason of insanity and has remained in psychiatric hospitals ever since.

“Her family is well known in the community," Herskowitz said of Elkins. "As big as Lakewood gets, it is still a small town. When things like this happen, people go into their shell and don’t talk about it.”

“I think people are in shock, I don’t think our community has dealt with a tragedy of this magnitude," said Shlomo Schorr, a local resident and director of legislative affairs for Agudah Israel of New Jersey, a Jewish advocacy group. “What can be said?"

Rabbi Moshe Zev Weisberg, a spokesperson for the Lakewood Vaad, a group of local Orthodox activists and business owners, put out a statement saying, "’Ain milim’ is a simple Hebrew phrase meaning, ‘There are no words to describe’. The whole Jewish community in Lakewood — and way beyond — is still reeling from the tragic events that shook our collective essence to the core.

"The community reaches out with love and support to the families, neighbors, friends and even just casual acquaintances to be there be there for emotional support and counseling," Weisberg continued. "Our medical, counseling and social services agencies are gearing up to meet the community’s needs.

"Now begins the time for prayer, support and healing. May the souls of our dear departed children be blessed with the eternal radiance of the almighty as we pray for the healing and well-being of their family and the greater family of the Lakewood community."

An Introduction to the Essay

The word Mother is a very pious word and whosoever is called by the name ‘Mother’ is a person who sacrifices and prioritizes her children over anything. Her whole Life revolves around the well-being of her child, their growth, their development, and their welfare. A Mother not just only gives birth to a child but she takes a Lifelong commitment to take care of her child.

The only unconditional love in the world is the mother's love. My mother is my inspiration, my superhero, my best friend, and my guiding light. My life would not have been beautiful without my mother. Through ups and downs and in every step of life, she holds my hand and supports and encourages me. No matter what happens, my mother is always there beside me- cheering me up and motivating me. All mothers in the world are great and so, we should not celebrate their contribution in our life on Mother's Day only, which is 10th May, but every day of the year and throughout their life. It is because no gesture of appreciation is ever enough when it comes to acknowledging our mother. Her selfless love and sacrifice are the precious of all gifts under the sun.

An Essay on Mothers

My Mother- The Multi-Tasker

Mothers play an important role in everyone’s Life since she acts as a Protector, a Friend, and Guide for Life. A Mother does everything selflessly for her child and without any condition. There the love of a Mother is known to be Unconditional.

The way she manages my family with utter dedication and devotion is inspiring. The relationship with my mother is something very hard to explain. I do not merely love her because she is my mother and we should respect our elders. I love her because she is my world and when I was not able to speak and communicate she took care of me, time and time again. The best part about my mother is that even though I have grown older she knows and understands my needs without me speaking a word. I learned kindness and love from her. She taught me no matter how bad a situation might get, only love can improve it in the most effective way. She has been the rock-solid pillar of my life and in every big moment of my life.

My Mother has constantly supported me throughout my entire Life, whenever I am in a danger or in a situation where I am stuck, she has always been there for me, protected me, and guided me. She has been my favorite teacher who has taught me about Life and the beauty of it. She is the essence of truthfulness, sincerity, and lots of love. The only person who holds our family together is my Mother. She cares for everyone in the house and for the ones in need outside the house as well. One of the most beautiful things that I learned from my mother is empathy. Be it strangers or animals, she treats everyone equally which makes her more amazing. Moreover, she taught me to not hurt anyone on purpose and help people whenever possible. Not only this but also she taught me to not differentiate among rich or poor, beautiful or ugly. She says that it is the heart of a person that makes them beautiful and rich and not temporary possessions.

My Mother is my constant source of encouragement, be it in Life or in school for studies. She has always inspired me to do other activities along with my studies. She has taught me to enjoy every aspect of Life and live Life to the fullest. She wants me to do those things in Life as well which she could not do or pursue. She is my backbone for everything. My mother has inspired me through her hard work and sacrifices. She taught me once never to get disheartened by failure and to keep challenging the failure with our honest effort. And one day, failure will pave the path to our success. The strength of facing hurdles and overcoming it is what I have learned from her.

Mothers have never-ending qualities even though they do not get much credit for their goodness and hard work. She binds everyone in the family and plays a very important part in everyone’s Life. Even when I do something wrong in Life, she scolds me but at the same time, she makes me understand and helps me to get out of the situation. She forgives me after every mistake but ensures that I’ve realized my mistake first. She is the most selfless human being I have ever encountered in my life till now.

My mother knows me in and out. Even if I am lying she catches me immediately and I start feeling guilty. We should never lie to our parents and especially, to our mother. They simply do not deserve it. Mothers spend a significant part of their lives making us capable of standing on our own feet. Sometimes, they have to sacrifice their own career and happiness for that. So a mother's trust should never be destroyed. And when it comes to my mother, I would not change a bit about her. She is the best chef, reading partner, and an independent working woman who can balance almost everything with utmost perfection. Even her imperfection makes me proud of her. Without my mother, I would never become a better human being. My Mother is my biggest strength and makes me, even more, stronger when I go through all my ups and downs in life. The best thing she possesses is her patience. The patience she has is difficult for anyone to have. She deals with every situation in the family, in my life, or even in her Life with so much patience because of the reason the family is bonded so strongly. It is the responsibility of every child to appreciate their Mothers and give them the love and respect that Mothers deserve.

Mother and Father Roles in Family

Words: 575
Subject:
Pages: 3
Topics: ,

Introduction

Comparison of roles played by parents, works cited, video voice-over.

A father is the male parent while mother is the female parent. Parents have a role to play in bringing up their children whether they are biological parents or not. They have a role in development of personality of their children. The conventional roles duty of every parent has been to raise children from all perspectives be it financially, or emotionally among other aspects of growth.

However, in contemporary times, distinguishing parental roles based on gender is difficult given that mothers are getting into employment to provide for their families while fathers are getting more involved in childcare for the benefit of the family. Recently there has been a call to introduce paternity leave to allow fathers to spend more time with their families. These recent developments notwithstanding, some roles fit women perfectly while others are meant for fathers.

Mothers’ roles start immediately after birth. Mothers prepare food for their families, clean the house, clothes, utensils among others hence ensures the biological needs of their children are available.

They also teach their children to differentiate between wrong and right and by so doing, they ensure the kids are healthy and have respect for themselves and others. Mothers act as role models and teach their children especially girls on their roles when in their marital homes incase they get married. When girls reach adolescent stage, it is the mother’s role to teach them on sex education and body changes.

On the other hand, fathers are the natural protectors and providers in a family. Most children look up to their fathers for provision and in them, children see role models. Consequently, a child’s respect for self and others hinges mainly on what the father portrays in day-to-day life.

Moreover, through fathers, children know their sexuality and research shows that involvement of fathers in a child’s upbringing creates a bearing sexual identity whether in girls or in boys (Eusina 59). Therefore, the activity of the fathers determines the level of maleness of his sons as well as the femaleness of his daughters. The two are directly proportional. Traditionally, the role of a father is to protect his family and provide an optimal living environment.

Despite the fact that fathers and mothers have different roles to play in a family, some roles transcend gender differences and call for involvement of the both sexes. For instance, education matters call for participation of both mothers and fathers for home is the first school for any child.

Parents teach their children core values of life including masculinity and femininity integrating them in the society. Parents direct, guide, and assist their children to ensure personal development and growth especially in the religious matters and in education (Penfield 205). They also support and motivate their children to achieve personal goals in life or incase of a tragic situation in life. Parents also help their children to develop social and emotional skills.

Parents have different and similar roles to perform in the family. Incase one of them does not perform his or her role; the effects are seen especially in their children. Parents have either genetic roles or basic traditional roles to play within the family establishment. Nevertheless, with the changing times, parental roles are becoming reversed by the day. Single motherhood places the mother in the shoes of a father and even fathers are assuming motherly roles in a bid to keep the family unit intact.

New Jersey mother charged with murder after the stabbing, drowning of her 2 children

During the investigation, officials learned that the 1-year-old was stabbed and both of the children were drowned..

A 27-year-old mother in Lakewood, New Jersey has been accused of murdering her two small children, stabbing and drowning them.

Naomi Elkins was charged with two counts of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

At 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, Lakewood police responded to a report of two children in cardiac arrest at a local residence, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced.

There, they found Hatzolah Medical Services on the scene, attempting to save the lives of the two children, ages 1 and 3. But their efforts fell short, and both children were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Asbury Park Press, part of USA TODAY Network.

Police investigated and concluded the 1-year-old child had been stabbed and both children were drowned, the prosecutor's office said. They concluded Elkins had murdered both her children and took her into custody without incident. She was taken to Ocean County Jail and will remain there until a detention hearing.

Child drownings: Man accused of 'deliberately' trying to drown his two children at Connecticut beach: police

Law enforcement had a heavy presence at the Lakewood residence

Billhimer credited the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office for their work at the scene.

Multiple officers were spotted Tuesday night at the home and crime scene tape could be seen along the entire corner.

Investigators could be seen coming and going through a rear side door, facing the intersection. They were seen removing a number of boxes and bags from the home and packing them into a Sheriff's Office vehicle.

The residence is in a neighborhood with larger houses, which appear to be home to families with children. Toys and bikes can be seen scattered across many lawns in the development.

Mother who was hit by Missouri City PD officer in crash that also killed her son was HISD counselor

KTRK logo

MISSOURI CITY, Texas (KTRK) -- A mother who was hit and killed along with her 16-year-old son by a Missouri City police car last week was a Houston ISD counselor.

The video above is from the original report: 16-year-old 'died on his birthday' when Missouri City police car hit him and his mom, dad says

The mother and son were identified as 53-year-old Angela Stewart and 16-year-old Mason Stewart.

"It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community," Asst. principal Tonya Chevalier wrote in a letter to parents last week, saying their counselor, Angela Stewart, "passed away unexpectedly."

The district said it would have support available for students, parents, and school personnel.

Authorities said the crash happened on June 20 after an officer received a call of a robbery in progress at about 8:42 p.m. at an ATM in the 1600 block of Cartwright.

According to police, a man armed with a handgun approached a victim and robbed them of $200 before fleeing in a silver Honda Civic. The victim reportedly followed the suspect while talking to 911.

Meanwhile, the officer responding to that ATM robbery was heading eastbound in the 16-1700 block of Cartwright Road when the Stewarts pulled out of a Dollar Tree parking lot. That's when the officer T-boned their vehicle, police said.

Mason had received his license recently and was driving, officials added. He and his mother died at the scene.

The family of the victims told ABC13 it was Mason's 16th birthday.

The officer was taken to a hospital but was released shortly after.

Witnesses described the crash, saying they heard a loud sound and then saw the police cruiser crush the other vehicle and catch fire. Hours after the crash happened, a person was found in the back of the police cruiser, authorities told ABC13.

Video shows first responders frantically pulling him out of the cruiser to give him aid. However, police haven't been able to explain why that person was in the back of the patrol car or why it took so long to discover the person was there.

The person in the back of his patrol car was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. Police said he was not arrested, and his condition wasn't immediately known.

Last week, police said they are still investigating why a person was in the cruiser as it goes against policy for officers to respond to calls if they already have someone in custody.

Missouri City police said the officer has been with the department for just under a year. He came to Missouri City from a prior agency, where he had about two years of experience.

Authorities are also investigating whether he had on his cruiser's lights and sirens before the deadly crash.

Warren Slater, 58, is looking for his son in Masca, the place where his teenage boy was reported missing.

Mr Slater, an apprentice bricklayer, had been holidaying with friends in southern Tenerife before travelling to the northwestern mountain village of Masca with two people he met at the NRG music festival on Sunday 16 June.

The teenager, from Oswaldtwistle near Blackburn in Lancashire, told a friend over the phone at 8.30am the following morning that he was walking back to his holiday accommodation after missing a bus - a journey that would take 11 hours on foot.

He also said he was lost, in need of water, and only had 1% charge on his phone.

The last person to see Mr Slater was Masca resident Ofelia Medina Hernandez who spoke to the teenager on Monday 17 June.

Ms Hernandez said she told him a bus was due at 10am as he seemingly hoped to get back to his accommodation.

However, he set off walking - and she said she later drove past him while he was "walking fast".

Young mom, family matriarch, doting dad and pillar of community ID’d as victims killed in Arkansas grocery store shooting

A 23-year-old nurse, mother to a 10-month-old girl, is among the four people killed in Friday’s mass shooting at an Arkansas grocery store .

Callie Weems died when rounds and fragments from a suspect’s long gun struck 13, including two officers who had non-life-threatening injuries, at a Mad Butcher grocery store Friday morning in Fordyce, a small town about 70 miles south of Little Rock.

Family members and police confirmed that the others killed in the mass shooting were Shirley Taylor, 63, Roy Burton Sturgis, 50, and Ellen Shrum, 81. Interviews and an obituary helped shed some light on the lives they lived.

Shrum was the latest fatality, announced Saturday night by Arkansas State Police.

One of four survivors of the attack who remained hospitalized Saturday evening was said to be in critical condition, police said. That patient, described as a woman, was not identified.

Callie Weems

Arkansas shooting victim Callie Weems.

Upon news of the attack, Helen Browning tracked her daughter's phone to the Dallas County Medical Center, where Weems worked, and assumed she had volunteered to help victims on her day off.

“She’s there,” Browning said she told herself. “She’s helping out.”

But people kept calling, so she went to the site of the violence to investigate, Browning said in interviews with NBC News and NBC affiliate KARK of Little Rock .

“My best friend was standing right there and I said, ‘Kristie, tell me my baby’s OK.’ And she said, ‘I can’t,’” Browning told the Arkansas station.

Weems had been shopping at Mad Butcher when she was shot, family members said. The loss was incomprehensibly unjust, Browning said, because Weems created a lot of goodwill.

“You can stab her in the back 17 times,” Browning said, “and she’d still help you.”

Stepfather Bruce Grice described Weems as “the sweetest girl.”

“Always worried about other people,” he said.

Browning, also a nurse, is now grappling with how she will raise her granddaughter, Ivy, whom she said was Weems’ “saving grace.”

“And now she gets to be mine too,” Browning told KARK.

Col. Mike Hagar with the Arkansas State Police said at a Sunday news conference that Weems was killed while she was administering care to other victims of the shooting.

She “used her training as a nurse” to give aid to other victims “and then became a victim herself,” Hagar said Sunday, adding that it was “one of the most selfless acts I’ve ever seen.”

Shirley Taylor

Arkansas shooting victim Shirley Taylor.

Death and injury on Friday wrought mental anguish and also left some families without the souls who power them each day. Shirley Taylor, 63, was described as a matriarch dedicated to the multigenerational family stead in nearby Chambersville.

She singlehandedly took care of her husband, described by daughter Angela Atchley as a severe diabetic. She looked after her own mother. She crocheted. She helped raise her grandchildren. She had a garden. And she often cooked for the family.

“Just the smell of food kind of makes me sick,” Atchley said. “I haven’t ate.”

Asked what the world should know about Taylor, Atchley said she had love for everyone, but always put her family first.

“She was the most hardworking woman I’ve ever known in my life,” the daughter said.

Roy Burton Sturgis

Arkansas shooting victim Roy Burton Sturgis.

Family confirmed that Sturgis was among Friday’s fatalities. His obituary, published by Benton Funeral Home, where a funeral was scheduled for Friday, said he was pronounced at Dallas County Medical Center.

He lived in nearby Kingsland, the obituary states, and daughter Hanna was his pride and joy.

On a virtual wall of tributes linked in the obituary, some friends of the Sturgis family described him as a man of bravery, courage and sacrifice.

Family friend Marsha Helberg Waddill described Sturgis as an everyday hero. He was “always courteous and brave enough to speak out to any playground bully that crossed his or your path,” she wrote.

He is survived by his daughter, sisters Angelia Surgis and Sarah Sturgis, brother Eddie Ray Sturgis, stepson Braydon Pennington, and Braydon’s daughter, CourtLeigh, according to the obituary.

Ellen Shrum

Arkansas shooting victim Ellen Shrum.

As the owner of a flower shop for two decades, Shrum became a center of social life in Fordyce. She could produce an arrangement for any occasion, but she also had a hug, a smile, or an ear for anyone who needed to be touched, seen and heard, her family said.

On Sunday, son Tait Shrum joined his sisters Teresa Crutchfield, a teacher, and Tara Morgan, a business owner, to speak about their mom's impact on the community.

Tait said it was unfortunate the suspect in the shooting didn't have the opportunity to know Ellen Shrum, an unofficial life counselor at her beloved Zion Baptist Church.

"She was like an angel on earth," Tait said. "She loved everyone — even, she didn't know him — the man who took her life. She'd have loved him and helped him."

Husband Kenneth Shrum said the pair was a team who "worked together." "We tried to overlook the bad parts and maximize the good parts," he said.

Her grown children say their mother's spirit lives on in those in the community she's helped over the years, and in their own interactions.

When she was struck down, Ellen Shrum was shopping for food to cook for a neighbor living with cancer, Tait said. She worked at Mad Butcher for a few months after trying to retire in 1999, her children said. She ended up working at a bank several more years.

Ellen cherished human connection, her children said, as the essence of a life well-lived.

“Every time we visit here,” Crutchfield said, “our mom walks us out to our car.”

Crutchfield said her mom taught her "compassion for others." "We've gotten so busy in our lives, we need to join together and love one another," she said.

No known motive

A motive in the Friday-morning shooting, which appears to have begun in the parking lot, remains unclear. Law enforcement officials briefed on the shooting told NBC News on Saturday that there are no indications of any sort of extremism as a possible motive.

Travis Eugene Posey, 44, of New Edinburg, a community about 11 miles east of Fordyce, was arrested in connection with the shooting and booked at the Ouachita County Detention Center. He was treated earlier Friday for non-life-threatening injuries after exchanging gunfire with officers.

Posey will be charged with four counts of capital murder, with additional charges pending, the Arkansas Department of Public Safety said in a news release .

Not a lot has emerged about the suspect’s background, and calls to people listed online as possible relatives, as well as to phone numbers associated with his address, were not answered, went to disconnected accounts, or have not been returned.

Hagar said Sunday that the suspect’s criminal history is very limited, if it exists at all.

The suspect is listed by the U.S. Department of Transportation as a self-employed trucker.

Video  that was verified by NBC News but does not reveal what transpired beforehand shows a man in a parking lot firing a long gun. Some rounds appeared to be directed at vehicles.

Grocery store closed for now

The grocery store said in a statement Saturday that it was “shocked and deeply saddened over the senseless act of violence.”

“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all those affected,” the store posted on Facebook . “We’re truly grateful to our local law enforcement and first responders who arrived on the scene to secure the area and apprehend the suspect. Their swift and courageous actions helped prevent further harm. We can’t thank them enough for their dedication and service.”

The store will remain closed as the investigation continues, the Mad Butcher said. Employees will continue to be paid.

The attack follows a mass shooting in Oakland, California, where 15 people were wounded  during Juneteenth events on Wednesday. That same day, seven people were injured after a  shooting in Philadelphia , officials said.

Noa Argamani addresses the supporters in hostages’ square tonight, in a recorded message, for first time since her rescue “I’m home now, but we can not forget the hostages that are still being held captive in Gaza, waiting for their return”. pic.twitter.com/ARtR5lwJ4s — Bring Them Home Now (@bringhomenow) June 29, 2024

Rescued Israeli hostage Noa Argamani revealed her “biggest worry” during her eight months in captivity was for her parents as she spoke publicly for the first time about the horrifying ordeal on Saturday.

Argamani, a 26-year-old China-born Israeli citizen, was abducted by Hamas terrorists at the Supernova music festival on Oct. 7 and was held captive in the Gaza Strip for 246 days before she was rescued.

“As an only child to my parents, and a child to a mother with a terminal illness, my biggest worry in captivity was for my parents,” Argamani said in a video released by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum.

Rescued Israeli hostage Noa Argamani revealed her "biggest worry" during her eight months in captivity was for her parents as she spoke publically for the first time about the horrifying ordeal on Saturday.

“It is a great privilege to be here after 246 days in Hamas Captivity. It is great privilege to be by my mother’s side after eight months of uncertainty,” she said.

The two-minute video was played at a protest in Tel Aviv on Saturday calling for the return of the remaining hostages.

Argamani’s mother, Liora, is fighting an advanced form of brain cancer and was worried she wouldn’t see her daughter again before losing her battle.

In December, she pleaded for President Biden and the US to help rescue her daughter,

“I am terminally ill with stage 4 brain cancer,” Liora wrote in a letter to Biden . “All that’s running through my mind before I part ways with my family forever is the chance to hug my daughter, my only child, one last time.”

Argamani's mother, Liora, is battling stage 4 brain cancer and was concerned she wouldn't see her daughter again.

In the video message, Argamani said that her partner, Avinatan Or, remained captive in Gaza.

“I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that there are 120 more hostages in Hamas captivity, and among them is Avinatan Or, my partner from whom I was separated at the moment of the abduction.”

Or was seen being manhandled by Hamas terrorists in a video during the attack at the music festival, where Hamas slaughtered 364 civilians, as his girlfriend was rushed away on the back of a gunman’s motorcycle.

Argamani feared that she was going to be killed when the terrorists stormed the music festival.

“Don’t kill me! No, no, no!” Argamani can be heard screaming in the video, which has become the symbol of the  terrorist attack on the Jewish state .

“Although I’m at home now, we cannot forget the hostages who are still in Hamas captivity, and we must do everything that’s possible to bring them back home.”

Argamani thanked the Israeli security forces and army who were a part of the daring operation that rescued her from the apartment of a well-off family in central Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp.

“I mourn with the family of Amon Zamora, who fell during the rescue operation of myself and three other hostages. My heart is with his family. Amon is a hero of Israel and because of him, we are here,” she said.

She was rescued by Israeli forces during Operation Arnon on June 8, 2024.

Operation Arnon, the name given to the mission that brought Argamani back to Israel, also rescued Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov and Shlomi Ziv.

“A huge thank you to my family and friends, and everyone who voiced out when we couldn’t speak. I’m grateful to all the wonderful people who supported my family during the difficult times.”

After her rescue, Argamani reunited with her father , Yakov, as the duo embraced in a tearful hug.

The father-daughter pair were also caught on camera smiling and sharing a pair of Coca-Colas in a hospital room in the Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv.

After her rescue, Argamani was reunited with her father, Yakov, when the duo embraced in a tearful hug.

“I wish for all of us to have more peaceful days, quieter days, that to be surrounded by family, friends and good people,” she said.

“Most importantly, may we learn to love and not hate,” Argamani concluded.

Advice | 14-day-old vallejo boy and his mother found after suspected parental kidnapping, advice | dear abby: my dad died after my sister hit him. now i’m worried for my mom., plus: my ex is estranged from our kids. should i try to bridge the gap.

Author

Three days before Dad passed, he was again trying to bail her out of a situation involving people she knew who stole her car. While Dad was driving her, she lost her temper (again) and struck him multiple times as my mother (on the phone) begged her to stop.

Dad died a few days later, perhaps not from the assault, but his body just said, “Enough!”

My sister is now sinking her teeth into my mother like she did my dad, and I don’t know what to do.

I want Mom to cut her out of her life before this happens again, but Mom says, “She’s still my daughter.”

Please advise.

— BETTER SIBLING IN NEW JERSEY

DEAR BETTER SIBLING : Your sister is still your mother’s daughter as she was her father’s.

Point out to Mom that in spite of all the years your father spent bailing your sister out, her behavior never improved. Often when we love someone, our instinct is to try to rescue them. Unfortunately, as your sister’s addiction problem has proven, that rarely works.

Please find where the chapters of Nar-Anon are located in your vicinity and invite your mother to go with you to some of the meetings. It is a 12-step program for family and friends of addicts. You can find the information at nar-anon.org.

If you do, it could save not only your sister’s life but also your mother’s.

DEAR ABBY : I was married for 25 years before I got divorced. We had three children.

I begged my ex to be a better dad, although I knew it probably would not happen. Currently, he has no contact with any of them. He alienated them for different reasons, and his new wife has caused some issues.

Recently, my youngest daughter (who is 36) gave birth for the first time. She had a very difficult pregnancy and almost died. Four or five weeks after the delivery, she had a major blood clot in her leg and again almost died.

I think her dad should be notified by letter. However, all of the kids insist they want nothing to do with him. He has my daughters’ phone numbers (though not my son’s), so he could call them.

At one time, he stated that he doesn’t have any kids, they are mine . What do you think?

— LET DOWN IN MINNESOTA

If your ex had wanted anything to do with his children, he would have been present for them. Your children are adults now, and they are able to decide on their own with no help from you how they want to conduct their lives.

Frankly, I have a strong hunch that trying to involve their father now would only bring more pain than he has already caused.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • In a nutshell
