Applying for scholarships is an important part of preparing for college. Given how expensive higher education is, these awards can relieve lots of anxiety and provide students with unique opportunities. Unlike loans, scholarships do not have to be paid back.

That said, after a grueling college application process, the thought of completing more applications can feel overwhelming to many students. Fortunately, there are plenty of easy scholarships you can apply for in under an hour. Some don’t even require essays. We’ve rounded up X super-quick scholarships with applications you’ll complete in no time at all.

1. CollegeVine Scholarships

Amount: $2,000

Deadline: Quarterly

Eligibility: High school student and US resident

Application Requirements: Create a free CollegeVine account or fill out your chancing profile if you already have an account

CollegeVine provides a quarterly, no-essay scholarship of $2,000. All you have to do is sign up for a free account, which allows you to see your chances of acceptance at 1,600+ schools, get your essays reviewed by a peer, ask questions in our community forum, and more. 2. Because College Is Expensive Scholarship

Amount: $500

Deadline: End of each quarter at 11:59 pm EST

Eligibility: High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors, college students, and graduate students

Application Requirements: Simple online form

Cedar Education Lending gives out the aptly-named Because College Is Expensive Scholarship once per quarter. All you need to do to apply is complete a simple form, and you’ll be entered into a $500 random drawing.

3. I Have a Dream Scholarship  

Amount: $1,500

Deadline: January 31, 2024

Eligibility: Must be a legal U.S. resident; must be at least 14 years old at the time of application

Application Requirements: Short answer question

For this scholarship, applicants will submit an online written response to the following prompt in 250 words or fewer:

“We want to know… what do you dream about? Whether it’s some bizarre dream you had last week, or your hopes for the future, share your dreams with us for a chance to win $1,500 for college.”

4. SmarterCollege Scholarship

Amount: $2,500

Deadline: Recurring (next deadline is June 30, 2023)

Eligibility: Must be at least 17 years old; must be a US resident

All you have to do to apply for this scholarship is complete a 5 question application! You can apply each month.

5. Cappex Easy Money Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: The end of each month

Eligibility: Must be a registered Cappex user; must be at least 13 years old; must be a US resident; must be planning to enroll in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning within 4 years

In order to enter this scholarship contest, sponsored by Cappex, all you need to do is complete the online registration form. Perhaps that’s why it’s called “Easy Money!”

6. “No Essay” College Scholarship

Deadline: Monthly (next deadline is May 31, 2023)

Eligibility: High school students, college students, and others planning to attend college or graduate school within the next year ( additional eligibility requirements )

As noted in the name, this scholarship requires no essay to enter. The recipient is selected by a random drawing, and you can enter once per month. If you win, you can use the award for education-related expenses, such as tuition, housing, and books.

7. No Essay Smart Owl Scholarship

Deadline: May 29, 2023

Eligibility: Must be at least 16 years old and a U.S. resident in any state, territory, or the District of Columbia, except for Rhode Island and Michigan; must be enrolled in a U.S. high school, college, or university

Here’s one for the comedians out there. This is not only an opportunity to win $1,500 in scholarship money but also a chance to showcase your comedy set. In 250 words or fewer, respond to this prompt:

This simple online form secures $2,500 scholarships for randomly selected students each month. Completing the form means you will be automatically entered.

10. Flavor of the Month Scholarship

Deadline: July 31, 2023

I don’t know about you, but I love ice cream. The premise of this scholarship is simple: you just need to talk about your favorite flavor of the (objectively) best dessert out there. In 250 words or fewer, respond to this prompt:

“Summer and ice cream go hand-in-hand. In fact, July is National Ice Cream Month, and that’s the inspiration behind this award. 11. Courage to Grow Scholarship

Eligibility: Must be a high school junior or senior or a college student with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a U.S. citizen

This scholarship is awarded once per month. To enter, you just need to describe in 250 words or fewer why you believe you should receive the scholarship.

12. College Is Power Scholarship

Deadline: May 31, 2023

Eligibility: Must be at least 17 years old and plan to start college within the next 12 months or already be enrolled; must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Full- or part-time students may apply for this easy scholarship. Judging is mainly based on your response to the following prompt, which you should address in 150 words or fewer:

This drawing requires filling out a quick and simple online form.

1. Apply to as many easy scholarships as possible. 

Given that many of these scholarships are lottery-based, it’s easy to apply. Even those that have short essays require minimal time to complete the application process, so they won’t eat up too much of your day. You can maximize your chances of winning one by applying to as many as possible.

Additionally, many of these scholarships you can apply to every month. Make a schedule and fill out the simple online forms for each drawing.

2. Balance easy scholarships out with more specific ones.

You shouldn’t focus solely on “easy” scholarships since your odds of winning are much lower. Because applying to these scholarships takes minimal effort, they draw a high number of entrants. This means your odds of winning are lower than they are for scholarships with a more rigorous application process. 

If you apply to scholarships that are tailored to your profile and require more of a time commitment to enter, you will increase your award potential. That might mean entering scholarship contests for people who share your background or demographics or for students intending to study a certain discipline. 3. Apply to schools with generous merit scholarships.

Most scholarship money comes from schools themselves and not external providers. Many schools consider students for merit scholarships just based on their application, so it’s no extra work; in fact, many schools have automatic scholarships based on SAT/ACT scores . Applying to schools where you’re in the top 75th percentile or above in terms of grades and test scores can maximize your chances of getting merit scholarships.

It’s July, and things are getting hot! Keep your cool this summer by searching for scholarships that will bring down your college costs and make your financial future brighter. The good news is we’ve done a lot of the hard work for you. Below is a list of more than 35 scholarships that you may be eligible for, all with deadlines in July. While this is just a fraction of the possible awards you can find online, it’s a great place to start since the deadlines are coming up soon. Find which category of scholarships you fall into (there may be more than one) and start applying ASAP!

Scholarships for high school students

• Savor Summer Scholarship : High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors (during the 2023–2024 school year) with US citizenship and a minimum 3.0 GPA are eligible for this award. Applicants must submit a recommendation letter and write an essay about what they plan to do during summer vacation, among other requirements. Award: $500; Deadline: July 1
• Phyliss J. McCarthy Scholarship for Excellence in Writing :  This scholarship for high school juniors and seniors requires applicants to respond to one of three writing prompts—including narrative, meta, and wacky options—in 2,000 words or fewer. One grand prize winner and two runners-up will be chosen.  Awards:  Up to $1,000;  Deadline:  July 23

Scholarships for high school and undergraduate students

• Employment BOOST Academic Scholarship :  This scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors in the US as well as two- and four-year college students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher. Applicants may be pursuing any major, but one of two scholarships awarded will be given to a student pursuing Business or STEM fields. Applicants must submit an essay between 500–1,000 words.  Awards:  $1,000;  Deadline:  None; applications accepted year-round on a rolling basis
• Baron and Budd Mesothelioma Cancer Victims Memorial Scholarships :  Students who’ve been accepted to a four-year college or university for any field can apply for this award. Applicants can either write an essay or create a YouTube video on how cancer has impacted their lives. Eligibility is not restricted to students with cancer; the effect on your life could be due to the diagnosis of a loved one. The top video and essay will be awarded.  Awards:  $2,500;  Deadline:  July 10
• Pedro Zamora Young Leaders Scholarship :  This opportunity is available to high school seniors as well as college first-years, sophomores, and juniors up to age 27 who demonstrate an active commitment to mitigating the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. A brief personal statement, an essay of up to 1,500 words, and two letters of recommendation are required along with the application form.  Award: $5,000;  Deadline:  July 16
• Bachus & Schanker, LLC Scholarship :  High school seniors who’ve been accepted and full-time college students attending four-year colleges and universities in the United States are eligible for this award. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and write an essay about the Seventh Amendment. Award:  $2,000;  Deadline:  July 30 (and November 30)
• Eskew Law Scholarship for Children of Convicted Felons :  This scholarship is open to graduated high school seniors, current college students, and students attending trade schools. Applicants must be US citizens and children of a parent who has a felony conviction, have a 3.0 minimum GPA, and submit a 500-word essay.  Award:  $1,500;  Deadline:  July 31
• Minecraft Scholarship :  This is a great opportunity for high school and college students who love Minecraft! Applicants must be US citizens and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. An essay on how Minecraft can be a positive influence on education and career development is required.  Award:  $2,000;  Deadline:  July 31
• Spirit of Giving Scholarship :  High school seniors as well as associate, bachelor’s, trade school, and certificate program students are eligible for this award. Three winners will be chosen from applicants who submit a strong essay of 500–750 words on the spirit of giving.  Awards:  $1,000;  Deadline:  July 31
• Secular Student Alliance Student Activist Scholarship :  This program is designed to support students who are activists for secular values on their campus and/or in their community. Applicants must be full-time students enrolled in high school or college in the US and pursuing excellence in their academic studies. A short video about your secular identity, why it’s important to you, or why you’re passionate about your activism or the separation of church and state is also required. In addition to scholarships that apply to all high school and college students nationwide, there are also unique and state-specific opportunities.  Awards:  Amounts vary;  Deadline:  July 31

Scholarships for undergraduate students

• Dr. Kyle Hornby Annual Scholarship : This opportunity is open to undergraduate students pursuing careers in dentistry, including roles as a dentist, dental hygienist, or dental assistant. Applicants must be enrolled in a pre-graduate-level program at a college or university in North America, have a minimum GPA of 3.7, and write an essay of 1,000 words or fewer about why they’re pursuing the field and the characteristics that make a great dental professional. Award: $500; Deadline: July 1
• American Indian Services Scholarship : This program is open to Native American students pursuing their first undergraduate degree or a professional/technical certificate. Applicants must be enrolled or plan to enroll as matriculated students at a university, college, junior college, or technical school (including incoming first-years) and enrolled members of a Federally Recognized American Indian or Alaska Native Tribe. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25 must be established and maintained after the first semester or quarter of college.  Award:  Up to $2,000;  Deadline:  July 1 (as well as November 1, February 1, and April 1, depending on when your term starts)
• Maeband Scholarship :  Sponsored by Maeband, this scholarship aims to help mothers who are also students pursue their educational pursuits. Applicants must be a mom or expectant mother as well as a US citizen currently pursuing any field at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the US. An essay or video response answering three questions is also required.  Award:  $500;  Deadline:  July 1
• RV Learning Center Scholarship Program :  Sponsored by the Mike Molino RV Learning Center, this scholarship is open to rising sophomore, junior, and senior undergraduate students. Applicants must have a minimum 2.8 GPA, submit the FAFSA, and write an essay on their educational and career goals, among several other requirements (including minimum SAT or ACT scores). An important factor for awarding the scholarship is an applicant’s background in RV industry employment or a desire to work in the RV business after graduating college.  Award:  $2,500;  Deadline:  July 8
• Sharon Stephens Brehm Undergraduate Psychology Scholarships :  This program is open to undergraduate students majoring in Psychology at accredited colleges and universities. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and submit a personal statement about past, present, and future involvement in psychology on campus and elsewhere, among other materials. The scholarship covers direct educational costs (such as tuition, fees, textbooks, etc.), with eight winners selected this year.  Awards:  $5,000;  Deadline:  July 10

Scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students

• SBB Research Group STEM Scholarship :  This scholarship is open to students who are pursuing STEM fields full-time at a college or university. There are no age or location restrictions for applicants, but you must have a minimum 3.5 GPA.  Award:  $2,500;  Deadline:  None; applications accepted year-round on a rolling basis
• Women in STEM Scholarship :  Sponsored by ABC Humane Wildlife, this award is offered to undergraduate and graduate students who identify as female and are pursuing careers in STEM. Applicants must submit an essay of 1,000 words or fewer on why they’re passionate about STEM and how their pursuit of these fields will help preserve biodiversity, improve the health of our planet, or alleviate human suffering. Multiple awards may be offered.  Awards: $1,000;  Deadline:  July 1
• KB Delta Scholarship :  Any student currently enrolled at an accredited college or university is eligible for this annual award sponsored by KB Delta Compressor Valve Parts. Applicants must submit an essay of 1,000 words minimum on their educational and career goals as well as why they feel they deserve to win.  Award:  $1,000;  Deadline:  July 1
• Rockefeller State Wildlife Scholarship :  This scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are attending a public university in Louisiana and pursuing a degree in Forestry, Wildlife, or Marine Science. Applicants must be state residents for at least one year, be enrolled full-time, meet the GPA requirement, and fill out the FAFSA by the deadline. This award is renewable over three years for undergraduates and two years for graduate students. Awards:  Up to $12,000;  Deadline:  July 1
• Phi Alpha Theta Scholarships :  The Phi Alpha Theta honor society provides six prizes for outstanding essays written by its undergraduate and graduate student members. The George P. Hammond Prize is awarded to a graduate student; the Lynn W. Turner Prize is given to an undergraduate; and the Nels Andrew Cleven Founder’s Paper Prize Awards are offered to two undergraduates and two graduate students.  Awards:  Up to $500;  Deadline:  July 1
• GeneTex Scholarship Program :  Undergraduate and graduate students worldwide pursuing STEM degrees should apply for this scholarship from GeneTex. Recipients may reapply for this award each year, and an essay is required.  Award:  $2,000;  Deadline:  July 12
• Avnet Law Scholarship :  This opportunity is open to accepted or currently enrolled students in accredited colleges, universities, or graduate programs. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents and demonstrate a spirit of volunteerism or community service through an essay of 1,000 words or fewer.  Award:  $1,000;  Deadline:  July 15
• Creative Safety Supply Scholarship :  Students attending or planning to attend a college, university, or trade school during the upcoming fall semester are eligible for this award, which honors creative thinking. Applicants must answer two essay questions—one on career goals and one on how you use creative thinking to achieve your goals—in addition to having a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Award:  $1,000;  Deadline: July 15 (and December 15)
• Law Offices of Jon Friedman Scholarship : Students pursuing undergraduate degrees in Pre-law Studies or entering law school in the fall are both eligible for this scholarship. Applicants may be accepted to any school in the US and must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. An essay on any topic related to an area of law that interests you is also required. Award: $500; Deadline: July 25
• 1 st Financial Bank Financial Goals Scholarship :  This is a monthly scholarship open to US residents who are 18 years or older and planning to enroll (or are currently enrolled) in a college degree program. This is a random drawing, but it does require you to submit a short essay of 500 words or fewer.  Award:  $2,000;  Deadline: July 31 (last day of every month)
• Pittsburgh Injury Lawyers Scholarship Essay Contest : This contest is open to both undergraduates wishing to go to law school in the future and current grad or law school students. Applicants must be enrolled in a US undergraduate, graduate, or law school program. An essay on medical malpractice using supporting case laws and online articles is also required. Scholarships for graduate students

• The SAIL Scholarship : This program is open to students going into their second year of law school who have outstanding professional promise and leadership potential. Applicants will be evaluated for academic excellence in their undergraduate years and first year of law school as well as their leadership experience, volunteerism or service in the public interest, knowledge of and/or dedication to social/cultural issues of any one or more AAPI communities, and commitment to “pay it forward.” The scholarship is split evenly over the recipient’s second and third year of law school. Scholarships for (basically) everyone

• Leaders Save Lives Scholarship Program :  This opportunity from the American Red Cross is more of a challenge and is open to high school and college students, including those enrolled at trade schools and community colleges. Applicants must organize a blood drive during designated time frames, and depending on how many pints you collect, you’ll earn varying gift card awards and entries into scholarship drawings.  Awards:  Up to $200 (gift card) and $2,500 (scholarship drawing);  Drive time frames: June 1–August 31 (and December 15–January 15)
• Bryant Gladney Paramedic Education Scholarship : This scholarship is open to students who are attending a program to become a paramedic. Students must display a strong passion for serving their community and plan to pursue a lifelong career in emergency medicine. Four scholarships are awarded per semester. Awards: $1,500; Deadline: July 1
• Vegetarian Video Scholarship : Non-meat eaters who are passionate about sharing their lifestyle with others should enter this contest. Applicants must submit a video about what they want others to know about vegetarianism and/or veganism. This opportunity is open to students of all ages, with multiple cash prizes offered. Awards: Up to $200; Deadline: July 15
• Debt.com Scholarship for Aggressive Scholarship Applicants : Debt.com is awarding students just for applying for other scholarships! All you have to do is apply for as many opportunities as you can, collect all your confirmation emails, and write a short statement about yourself. This scholarship is offered every two months, with one entry selected based on the number of applications and the quality of the essay. (Debt.com says it is “purposefully vague with these rules to give students who seek the most scholarships the best chance of winning.”) Award: $500; Deadline: July 15
• Innovation in Education Scholarship :  This monthly scholarship is open to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students who write an essay on an innovative project they’ve designed that makes a difference in the lives of others. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be US or Canadian citizens.  Award:  $500;  Deadline:  July 20 (same date every month)
• Law Offices of Greg Prosmushkin Scholarship Essay Contest : This law firm wants to help the future generation of Philadelphia personal injury lawyers, but any student can apply for this annual scholarship. Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited high school, college, or university in the US and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. An essay (500 words minimum) on why education is important with examples of how you’ve persevered through challenges and obstacles is also required. Award: $1,000; Deadline: July 31

• $2,000 Sally Mae Scholarship Sweepstakes : Sallie Mae offers an easy scholarship contest that both students and parents can enter each month. It’s open to legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, or any US Territory who are age 17 or older at the time of entry. Award: $2,000; Deadline: July 31 (last day of every month)
• Dashanna K. McNeil Memorial Scholarship : High school, undergraduate, and graduate students pursuing nursing-related fields can all enter to win this scholarship. An essay is required, and there are two slightly varied essay questions depending on whether you’re a high school or continuing education applicant.  Award:  $1,300;  Deadline:  July 31
• CollegeXpress Summer Olympics Scholarship :  New and existing CollegeXpress users who are US citizens ages 13 and older are eligible to enter this scholarship drawing. Just create a free CX account (or log back in) during the month of July and answer the following question: Which event in the 2024 Summer Olympics are you most excited about? I am very excited to be this year's recipient of the Multicultural Student Community Service Scholarship. This scholarship will bring me ever closer to my academic and professional goals. Eighteen Students Will Receive Awards for Essays Related to Overpopulation

Alexandria, VA (July 18, 2023) – Negative Population Growth leaders have announced this year’s annual Essay Scholarship Contest winners. Soon, eighteen students from across the U.S. will receive awards ranging from $5,000 to $1,000 to help with their tuition and other expenses.

This year, the winning graduate students competed for the scholarship awards by writing an original 750–1,000 word essay addressing the provided prompt . Graduate students were asked to consider a future in the U.S. with an additional 70 million people and to discuss the aspects of their lives that would be most affected by such a significant increase in human population. Graduate students were also asked to include their thoughts on whether or not the U.S. government should encourage policies designed to reduce population growth to a more sustainable level.

High school seniors and undergraduate students competed for the scholarship awards by writing an original 450-600 word essay addressing the provided prompt . Seniors and undergraduates were asked to consider what life in the U.S. would be like with 70 million additional people over the course of 40 years. They were then asked to describe three aspects of their lives that would be most affected by this growth. 

The Donald W. Mann Memorial Scholarship for Population Studies , named in honor of NPG’s late founder and president, has been awarded to Alex Blake, a graduate student at the University of Nevada. He will receive the grand prize of $5,000 for his essay entry in NPG’s Graduate Student Essay Scholarship Contest.

Theresa Mickendrow, NPG’s longest-serving employee, worked with Don for nearly 28 years. She fondly remembers Don’s commitment to education by stating: “Don fully understood that young people have incredible influence over our shared future. He knew that NPG must communicate with young adults while they are still determining their values and goals for the next 50 years of their lives and instill in them the belief that population size and growth play enormous roles in the health of our nation. By offering multiple scholarships, NPG encourages young people to examine U.S. demographic trends carefully and to make sustainable choices. Our goal has always been to change how Americans view population growth in the U.S. Young people are no exception to that goal.”

Additional graduate winners include Veronica Irwin from NYU Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, who won $2,500.  Two $1,500 scholarships were awarded separately to Ashlyn Puckett from Georgia State University College of Law and Leanne Deng from Georgetown University.  An additional four graduate students each received a scholarship award of $1,000: Brian Lum from the University of Arkansas, Grace Katzmar from Columbia University Teachers College, Lorena Diaz from Strayer University, and Michael Soaries from Union Theological Seminary in New York.

Undergraduate winners include Peter Sloniewsky from Georgetown University, who won the top undergraduate prize of $2,500.  Three students won a $2,000 scholarship: Curtis Halpin from Penn State University, Amanda Jorjorian-Furcho from Valencia College, and Morgan Pursley from the University of Tennessee.  Two students won a $1,500 scholarship: Sebastian Henson from Lake Forest College and Connor Karpilovsky from St. Joseph’s University.  And an additional four students received scholarships of $1,000: Simran Bhogle from Irvine Valley College, Madelyn Heckert and Domnica Reutov, both from Portland State University, and Phoebe Williams from Ohio University.

This year’s prizes are just a portion of the hundreds of thousands of dollars of scholarship money that NPG has awarded since 2006 as part of its Youth Outreach program.  This multi-faceted program is designed to get America’s young people focused on the disastrous future that awaits their generation if our nation’s leaders fail to recognize and act on putting forth workable, responsible, common-sense solutions to today’s ever-growing population crisis.

Along with sponsoring the annual student scholarship competition, NPG has worked through the years with thousands of teachers nationwide who help bring facts about population to America’s classrooms.  These efforts are funded through the generous support of NPG members who are especially interested in leaving a livable world to their children and grandchildren.
