Swachh Bharat Mission in Urban Areas

The Swachh Bharat Mission of urban areas aimed to cover almost 1.04 crore households in order to provide them 2.6 lakhs of public toilets, 2.5 lakhs of community toilets together with the solid wastes management in every town. Community toilets were planned to be built in the residential areas where availability of individual household toilets is difficult and public toilets at designated locations including bus stations, tourist places, railway stations, markets, etc.

Cleanliness programme in the urban areas (around 4,401 towns) was planned to be completed over five years till 2019. The cost of programmes was set, like Rs. 7,366 crore on solid waste management, Rs. 1,828 crore on public awareness, Rs. 655 crore on community toilets, Rs. 4,165 crore on individual household toilets etc.

Programmes which were targeted to be completed are complete removal of open defecation, converting unsanitary toilets into flush toilets, eradicating manual scavenging, bring behavioral changes among public, and solid waste management.

Gramin Swachh Bharat Mission

Gramin Swachh Bharat Mission is a mission implementing cleanliness programmes in the rural areas. Earlier the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (also called Total Sanitation campaign, TSC) was established by the Government of India in 1999 to make rural areas clean however now it has been restructured into the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin).

This campaign was aimed to make rural areas free from open defecation till 2019 for which the estimated cost was one lakh thirty four thousand crore rupees for constructing approximately 11 crore 11 lakh toilets in the country. The Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya campaign run by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development had aimed for cleanliness in the schools. A major programme was organized under it from 25th of September 2014 to 31st of October 2014 in the Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalya Sangathans.

A healthy environment helps endangered animals avoid extinction. We will be able to breathe cleaner air and there will be fewer dangers. By maintaining a clean environment, we can ensure a consistent supply of food, water, and several natural resources, such as wood, for the production of a variety of products. Thus, greening India must become a rallying cry for all residents.

The government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, established the Clean India Green India mission in this effort. It is divided into two components: Clean India and Green India.

The government intends to make India clean and hygienic through the Clean India component . To accomplish this, the government started the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), a comprehensive campaign. One of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) is to make the world a better place. Clean India and Green India are two big projects that India has been working on. For the same reason, the Indian government has started a project called “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.”

Clean India and Green India are the two sides of the same coin, which is to say, a healthy, long-term development of the country of India. Father of the country wanted to clean India, or Swatch Bharat Aviyan (SBA), which is what it is called now. Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan was changed to Swacch Bharat Abhiyan by the cabinet on September 24, 2014. India started the campaign on October 2, 2014, which is the 145th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth. It was started by the government of India. The goal of this campaign is to clean every town and village in India. Mahatma Gandhi wanted to make India a clean country, so he gave a great message to the country by giving people the education they needed to stay clean. He also said that sanitation is more important than independence. During the start of this project, about 30 million students and government workers took part. Swatch Bharat Abhiyan or clean India: “One Step to Cleanliness” has been the slogan for many years.

It is called the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan , and its main goals are to reduce or eliminate open defecation by building individual cluster and community toilets, to convert the insanitary toilets to flush toilets, to get rid of hand-dug sludge, and to set up an accountable and transparent system for monitoring the work of the government. Swatch Bharat, or clean India, is a concept that aims to ensure that everyone has access to sanitation services such as toilets, solid and liquid waste disposal systems (SLWDS), village cleanliness, and safe and enough drinking water supply. It is a national-level campaign launched by the Indian government on October 2, 2014, the 145th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth. This campaign’s objective is to clean up all of India’s towns and villages. Mahatma Gandhi desired a clean country and thus sent an excellent message to the nation by providing education to keep the people around him clean. He also stated that sanitation was far more important than independence. This endeavour is expected to be completed by 2019, the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth. This effort entails the installation of toilets, the promotion of hygiene initiatives in rural regions, the cleaning of streets and roadways, and the transformation of the country’s infrastructure. Around 30 lakh school and college students, as well as government personnel, took part in the mission’s launch, which was initiated by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi himself by clearing the road. The Government of India intends to address sanitation issues through this campaign by expanding the use of Western management systems. The Clean India movement is inextricably linked to the country’s socioeconomic, cultural, and political strength and stability. “One Step towards Cleanliness” is the well-known slogan for Swatch Bharat Abhijan, or clean India.

It is the moral obligation of Indian citizens to make their country clean and green. Subsequently, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched to transform India into a clean India via the efforts of all residents residing within the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi invites everyone to take part in the Abhiyan at any moment. But, it has also led to our country becoming extremely unclean due to the huge amount of waste generated each day. The streets all around are full of litter and a strong foul odour can be smelled around that place. India has also performed poorly in the Global Environment Performance Index, falling to 177 position worldwide.

Most of the waste out there is produced by human activity. It consists of both biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. However, waste generation is not a problem here; it is the careless behaviour of the people that is a problem. Littering is done on quite a large scale in India. Indians usually carelessly throw away waste on the streets in order to keep their houses and shops clean. 

Such behaviour by people leads to many problems. First, it makes our streets unhygienic, and many times, too dirty to even walk. Second, it harms stray animals such as dogs and cows, who consume waste such as plastic and paper which harms their bodies. Third, it makes the streets look ugly, decreasing tourism. Fourth, litter also mixes with the soil to affect plant growth in a negative way. Waste mixes in the soil and prevents water from pouring down, hence decreasing the water supply for plants and trees.

It is important to not only keep our cities and country clean but also green. Indian cities rank among the top most polluted cities in the world. Increasing the green cover – a term used to describe the land covered by trees and plants– will increase the level of oxygen in the cities. Lately, various new measures such as plant walls and vertical gardens are used to improve beauty while adding oxygen to the air. Also, trees and plants are planted on the sides of the streets for a long.

Such creative measures are also good for the economy. They increase the beauty of a place, thus attracting more tourists and boosting the economy. They have also created demands for various items such as plants, pots, pot stands etc., thus creating jobs.

India is a well-known country in the entire world. Geographically speaking, our country is situated south of the Asian continent. India has a large population and is naturally well-defended from all sides. It is well-known around the world for its outstanding cultural and traditional characteristics. The most prominent mountain in the world, the Himalayas, reside here. Three large oceans surround it: the Bay of Bengal to the east, the Arabian Sea to the west, and the Indian Ocean to the south. India ranks second in the world in terms of population and is a democratic nation. Although Hindi is the official language of India, this country also has about 14 other official languages.

Location Of India

India is located in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a part of Asia, the seventh continent. As the seventh-largest nation in the world and is well-known among people of different countries. It extends approximately 3,287,263 square kilometres. Out of this region, forests cover 712,249 sq. km. Gandhinagar also holds the distinction of being Asia's greenest city.

The Indian subcontinent and its neighbouring countries, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, share various physical characteristics. India's topography divides the country into six distinct natural areas.

My favourite state in India is Rajasthan. Rajasthan has an illustrious past. It is renowned for its many valiant rulers and the art and architecture it produced. Because of its sandy route, this is where the nuclear test was conducted. Rajasthan offers a lot, including deserts, mountains, lakes, deep forests, beautiful oases, and temples. The name Rajasthan also describes to "Land of Sacrifice." In Rajasthan, you can visit Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh, etc., to see the heritage items left behind by all the kings who once governed the region. The capital of Rajasthan is Jaipur.

I live in India. Historically, India's reputation as a "Golden Bird" drew kings from other countries. We were introduced to other religions and cultures due to their arrival in India and subsequent dominance over us. Today, India houses people of different religions and cultures and we are part of this diverse and multicultural country. All of these religions have enriched our diversity by bringing with them various cultural and religious beliefs.

We were dominated by the British for a long time, and India attained independence in August 1947. Every year on August 15, we commemorate our independence.

Our crafts, music, and arts are all the best there are. This country has numerous well-known art forms, including Kathak dance in the north and Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Kathakali in the south. Similarly, two styles of music are famous here; one is called Karnataki music, and the other is called Hindustani music. It is amazing. Our literature, handloom, craft, etc., all have an unmatchable flavour.

The Indian national flag has three colours:-

Saffron, the primary and topmost colour in the flag, symbolises purity. White, the centre colour of the flag, represents peace and is the second colour. Green, which is the third and bottom-most colour on the flag, symbolises fertility. Blue Ashoka Chakra is painted on a white background. There are 24 evenly spaced spokes in the Ashoka Chakra. 29 states and seven union territories make up India.

India is rich in biodiversity. Our culture is what instils in us a genuine respect for both plants and animals. A large cultural group encourages the worship of a wide range of plants and animals, which aids in protecting them. This explains why India has the highest concentration of tigers. 54 animal sanctuaries and more than 100 national parks are found in India. Some creatures, including Bengal Tigers, Elephants, Rhinos, and Lions, are found in India. Having such immense biodiversity is excellent.

Dosa is one of my favourite Indian dishes. I love eating dosa, and it is one of my favourite breakfast foods. Dosa is believed to have originated in the town of Udupi. Though it is traditional food in the south of India, Dosa is hugely popular in other parts of the country as well. The dosa is frequently referred to as the Indian continent's pancake. Dosa was initially thicker and softer in Tamil Nadu than it was in Karnataka. I enjoy preparing the fermented batter for Dosas with rice and black gramme as the key ingredients. I like to eat Dosa with chutney and sambar.

India is the most significant contemporary democracy in the world and is renowned for its rich culture and history. All areas of space, research, education, and technology development in my country are advancing swiftly. My country continued despite going through a lot of sacrifices to gain independence. India is getting ready to become a worldwide force and I am so proud of it. I wish all my fellow citizens prosperity and happiness.
